View 4 RepliesWhen it comes to fiber optics my knowledge is very limited. All I know is that they can carry data at high bandwidth for a long range at blazing speeds etc.My boss has asked me to link several buildings to the network and I am led to believe that joining them through fiber optics to be best since we are expecting a lot of data traffic between.I have done the normal RJ-45 networking with Gigabit networking in my organisation but need your assistance on how to join each of the buildings through fibre optics. So far this is my plan.Draw up the fiber optic lines from the main building to each building. All the buildings have Gigabit Cat6e cabling and network in each.I am planning on using a single mode media converter to convert the end of the fibre optic to the normal RJ45 connector and plug it to each switch at each of the ends of the fiber optic cable .Am I going in the correct direction?I don't even know the gadgematics required except for the cables them selves, crimping tools, the media converter. There is about 300-400 metres in between of each building from the main building. Also, I believe that we need to create cross over cables as in the normal way we do in connecting 2 switches. Your input is very valuable to me.

When I go to create the ports via Port Management - Link Aggregation - LAG Management - LAG1 - Edit and move ports 5,6,13,14 over as LAG Members - Click apply I get Port gi5 belongs to a VLAN. If I try to add them individually I get the same error, i.e. port gi6 belongs to a VLAN, port gi13 belongs to a VLAN, etc..

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a D-Link DIR -655 wireless router connected to my Time Warner Cable modem upstairs. Downstairs I have a PS3, Wii, Logitech Revue and a HP laptop. I get low signal strength downstairs(many walls) and would like to run an Ethernet cable downstairs to my devices. What hardware do I need downstairs to hard wire those devices? Not sure if router or switch and what kind. Do I need to make any changes to my existing D-Link wireless router? I want to keep the wireless available for cell phones and the HP laptop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOn our HP switches we have an 'Outside' VLAN where any device connected to these VLAN ports can use the ISP's 'outside' IP addressing for direct Internet access to bypass our firewall. We use this for videoconferencing devices. What is the correct way to do this on a Cisco SF-300-48P??Presently I have ports 1-4 in vlan 50 Outside as 'untagged,' and the same ports as 'forbidden' in vlan 1 Default. Is this the correct configuration?? In HP switches these ports in vlan 1 Default would be configured 'No' and 'untagged' in vlan 50 Outside.Tried talking to Cisco but their phone support is not working.

The game will work perfectly if I connect my Laptop to the modem directly and bypass the Wireless. This is becoming an issue as for me to be able to play the game I have to turn the wireless off which is getting on the nerves of other family members
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have followed directions and forwarded the two ports to the local machine. I looked in the router setup to find my current public ip address from Comcast say its 98.221.99.99. If I am on the same network as the machine that is receiving the port forwards, and I type http:// 98.221.99.99 in a browser, the forwarding works fine.If I am external/not on the same network, typing http:// 98.221.99.99 in a browser times out. I have tried http:// 98.221.99.99:9000 too (9000 is the port I need forwarded) and that doesn work either. But, I do have remote management enabled for the router and if I am external/not on the same network and I enter http:// 98.221.99.99:8080 in a browser, I get the router login screen and can enter my user name and password and login to the router just fine.

The internet works fine, but it seems to think that I am not connected to the network. I'm not certain it realized that I even had a network, since when I try to activate media sharing it just gets stuck at "Identifying Network". The whole purpose of this is to be able to play music from my computer on my Xbox 360, alternative solutions for this goal would be good too.
