I have a problem with ISDN BRI-1B-S/T-V3. In the documentation I read: "The ability to add BRI connectivity via a WLC lets administrators maximize valuable slot space while it provides additional connectivity options, such as Ethernet, on the same module." Does it mean that I can plug in the module Ethernet and it will work? I ask, because i have CISCO 1571-V router with this isdn module, i get the internet from Ethernet, and i wonder is there any possibility to use this module as WAN.

I have a remote site that still utilizes a single T1 connection to me. For multiple reasons we had to scrap the old T1 and have a new one put in. The old T1 resided on a T3 as channel 25. The new T1 is a standlone point to point. I removed the old config from my 7301 and programmed my 3725. I cannot figure out what is going on but the interface stays down/down. There is no loopback turned on, either manually or by the carrier. The AL LED stays amber regardless of whether or not I have a cable patched down. The CD LED remains green when I patch a cable down. LP is not light.I am using a straight through Ethernet cable to connect my 3725 to the smart jack. If you look at the show output below you will see DCD and CTS is down. Since the remote end was working and I just had the tech move the patch cable from one smart jack to another I am assuming the problem is on my side or with the carrierI already tried changing the clock sourced between internal and line. I also swapped out the WIC card for another one. I don't usually program T1 connections. [code]

I have a 1941 router with the security licence. I am setting up both a T1 wic that connects to my enterprise MPLS cloud and one of the two gig interfaces that will connect to my home office through a VPN tunnel to a ASA 5520. I have tried multiple solutions though my gues is that I am making this WAY more difficult than it needs to be. What I am trying to create is a primary on the serial interface and then a failover through the VPN.So far, I have tried to:
-Track the serial interface and then set the default route, based on the tracking
-Create an IP SLA to echo the gateway of the serial interface to change the routing
-Started to create HSRP between the two interfaces though I could not figure out if / how a standby could be put into a sub-interface on the serial
The SLA seems to be working somewhat. The problem is that it is not transparent and sometimes even needs me to clear the VPN tunnel to get things back to smoothly through the serial interface. [code]

I know serial interfaces are called that because they put bits on the wire serially - i.e. one bit at a time. If that's the case for serial interfaces, how do other kinds of interfaces, such as Ethernet interfaces, put bits on the wire? Do they somehow put more than one bit on the wire at a time? I assume it's a faster process, but how so?

We have a Cisco 1760 router . We are facing sevier packet drops in the serial interface.
When i swap the router with another router link is working working fine.
Troubleshooting steps taken
1. Swap the serial cable with another working cable : no change in state
2. Reconfigure the encapsulation commands (with PPP and HDLC) : no change in state
3. Try with a decreased MTU packet Ping : no change in state
4. Decreased the Input queue and increased the output queue size using hold-queue in command : Comparatively the packet drop is reducing but still a 10 percent drop is happening.

What would cause an interface to show up/up (looped), but you still can't ping that loop?...It is on a Cisco 7613 with an Enhanced FlexWan (WS-X6582- 2PA), with a Mx Serial PA, 8 ports (73-1580-10) and running IOS ver 12.2(33)SRE2 [code]

I'm having an issue that I can't quite understand. I set up a test lab to get familiar with EIGRP routing. I have a Cisco 3845-MB with 2 VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1 cards.sh ip int brief shows UP UP status on all serial ports. I gave it an IP address but I'm having trouble pinging the serial interface IP. It's dropping pings to its own S 1/1/0 interface when pinging from console. I have known good T1 crossover cables 1&2 - 4&5.
Here is the "ip int brief" from 3845-MB
3845-MB#sh ip int brief
Interface IP-Address OK? Method Status Prot
ocol
GigabitEthernet0/0 unassigned YES NVRAM administratively down down
GigabitEthernet0/1 172.30.2.1 YES NVRAM up up
Serial1/1/0:0 10.3.29.2 YES manual up up
Right now it's pinging itself at about 60 -90% success rate... and I can't figure out why it's dropping any packets at all. I have other issues with in the lab as well... but i think this might be my "core" issue. To make matters even more "weird" I've tried two different VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1 cards and I drop pings with both of them.
Here is a sh run and a sh diag:

While I managed to connect to each router individually, I decided it was time to connect the routers together via serial; as I don't have any serial cables and need to buy some, what serial cables I need, as well as to ask whether I have the right cards in my router(s) that will allow me to do so.
I bought 3 1841 routers, and all have a 1 port serial WAN Interface Card (WIC 1-T); one router has 2 of these, and one router has a WIC-1B-S/T .. My question is, can I connect the routers with a serial cable via WIC 1-T, or do I need a 2-T

I just finished setting up a bundle of (2) T1's in a multilink bundle and I'm having issues with one of the T1's not wanting to join the bundle.
The router I'm using on the remote office location is a 3620 router running code c3620-i-mz.121-1c.bin
The campus router which is a 7206 is setup the same exact way with multilink 240 and like I've said, serial 0/0 is joined to the bundle just fine, so we are running off one T1 connection.
The serial interface that is not working is: serial 0/1
Here is a show-run:
interface Multilink240
ip address 172.18.xxx.xxx 255.255.255.252
ip route-cache flow
ip ospf network point-to-point
service-policy output PhonesFirst
ppp multilink

I have to setup what seems to be a very basic configuration, but it doesn't work. In our lab there is a cluster of switches with a 3550 that does all the routing for vlans. I need to simulate a sort of a small branch office that has one connection to the outside world (the lab network). [code] From the router I can ping any host on vlan 230 and other vlans,I can also ping the pc connected to e0/1.However from the PC I can only ping 192.168.1.1(e0/1) and 172.26.230.150 (e0/0) [code]

I study at University of Ostrava and currently I am working on my master thesis. Its content is realization of few attacks on network. Now I am trying to implement ICMP redirecting attack by using Intercepter program. Diagram of my netwok you can see on enclosed picture (Schema.jpg). Through Intercepter program I generate packets ICMP redirect (ICMP type 5), which are successfully sent from PC Attacker, but these packets do not arrive to PC Victim and Warshark shows me messages „ Destination Unreachable (Host Unrecheable).“ When I use instead of Cisco switch non Cisco switch (for example: Edimax) or hub, ICMP redirects packets arrive to PC Victim and I can continue in the attack?
SW:
Switch is in the defautl setting
Cisco Catalyst 2960 IOS: c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-50.SE3.bin
Router:
Set only IP address on FastEthernet interfaces
Cisco 2801 IOS: 2801-ipbasek9-mz 124.25f.bin

There is some way to increase the speed of changing the interface state from DOWN to UP when the cable is connected. I need to configure a port of Cisco 4503 in a way that when a cable is connected the port goes immediatly UP.
A solution can be to keep Cisco interface always UP and I remember that with "no keepalive" command to the interface configuration it was possible. But I tried and nothing happens.

Is there a keyword that we use under the interface to specify that it is purely management?
We need to assure that the subnet and any node on that subnet is not shared with the default routing table.
how do we set the gateway for the management interface if the node we are sourcing the ssh session from is on a different private subnet?

The only option that I have under the IOS that's installed on a 2900 series router is track. I don't have a version that supports SLA. The interface is connected to a switch that the ISP gave, and all of the tests that I've done refuse to make the circuit go down. If I were to lose the circuit, the interface won't show to be down unless the switch were to go down.
Is there any way with track to see that the provider's circuit went down on a switch? I was going to set up sla to ping the ISP's address, but I can't do that unless I upgrade the OS. These are a pair of routers running hsrp at a remote datacenter. Is sla the only way that I'm going to be able to accomplish this? I have tried track with different options in gns and all of them keep the CE's interface up and doesn't show it down. Watching a route in the table isn't feasible because I wouldn't want it to fail over because another site is having problems. Tracking the route doesn't work for connected routes either because the route itself doesn't leave the table as long as the interface is up.

It is a single router with dual ISPs. It is a 2800 and there is failover configured. I have implemented object tracking and the feature works great except that lately, whenever there is a lot of traffic coming perhaps from the internal users, we start getting intermittent outages.
I have gone deep into looking into this problem and have determined that our ISP#1 does not have any problems. What I think is happening is that whenever the router receives a lot of packets (30-40 users on the internal network) destined to the outside, the router CPU maybe gets too busy and the router then believes that the objects are no longer reachable and it triggers a failover which causes the router to re-direct traffic to the ISP#2. Then, because these are just quick burst of traffic, in the next 30 to 45 seconds after the router re-directed the traffic to ISP#2, the router object tracking engine detects that the objects are now again reachable and this then causes the router to re-direct all traffic back to ISP#1.
This cycle then continues all day on how to prevent this.
Is there a way to perhaps tell the router to completely shut down the interface facing ISP#1 whenever there is a hicup and to keep it shutdown for at least 8 hours? This way I can prevent the router from going crazy.
Or is there a way to perhaps prevent this at the internal (LAN) interface? Are there some metrics like QoS that I can implement on the internal Fast Ethernet Interface to prevent the burst of traffic from eating up the CPU?

I am troubleshooting interface resets on a 3660 connected to a 3550 over Fast Ethernet. I have hard coded both sides for full duplex and 100Mbit. The 3660 is incrementing interface resetes about 4-6 times a day and the 3550 is clean. I have noticed this in other similar configurations as well.
