Cisco WAN :: Track Interface On Ethernet Circuit 2900
Apr 22, 2012
The only option that I have under the IOS that's installed on a 2900 series router is track. I don't have a version that supports SLA. The interface is connected to a switch that the ISP gave, and all of the tests that I've done refuse to make the circuit go down. If I were to lose the circuit, the interface won't show to be down unless the switch were to go down.
Is there any way with track to see that the provider's circuit went down on a switch? I was going to set up sla to ping the ISP's address, but I can't do that unless I upgrade the OS. These are a pair of routers running hsrp at a remote datacenter. Is sla the only way that I'm going to be able to accomplish this? I have tried track with different options in gns and all of them keep the CE's interface up and doesn't show it down. Watching a route in the table isn't feasible because I wouldn't want it to fail over because another site is having problems. Tracking the route doesn't work for connected routes either because the route itself doesn't leave the table as long as the interface is up.

Needing to bridge from my wic interface to an ethernet interface on a 2900 series router so that I can pass through the ip address given to the WIC, to my ASA so that I don't have to give my ASA a private range address. (Just like a service provider might do when bringing a T1 with managed router in to my prem)

I have a question regarding Circuit-speed WAN performance. I purchased a 1Gbps Internet Link and want to know what my max through put would be on that router.
The Data Sheet states 35Mbps, why buy this router if I can not utilize this 1gig circuit.

if i plug a cisco 880 router in to a 100MB WAN Ethernet circuit what throughput will i get? on cisco site it says 25mb/sec but if it is Ethernet shouldn't it be done in hardware and get the full 100mb/sec?
I know that a 1841 plugged in to a 40MB WAN circuit can match that speed but Cisco site say it only can do E1 speed.

Installation of 2 x 4 Mbps MPLS circuit on primary router (CISCO 2951) and 1 x 8 Mbps Ethernet link on secondary router (Cisco 2951). We have successfully implement the primary router with 2 x 4 Mbps MPLS circuit. Site is having two computer room CR1 and CR2 and distance between both room is 200mts. CR1 is having primary core router and primary core switch where the service provider terminated the new MPLS circuit and we have done the successful implementation. CR2 is having Secondary core router and secondary core switch where we needs to have the termination of Ethernet link but service provider has delivered the Ethernet link on the CR1 which is incorrect DMARC Location.
Both the computer rooms are connected via optical copper can we use that copper to connect the circuit on CR2, as per my understanding we can use the optical fiber to connect the wind circuit on secondary router on CR2 by using the media connector.

I am facing a very big problem with site to site vpn on cisco 2900 ios.
I configured the vpn and when i ping from router itself to destination ip with source as lan interface , VPN works, no problem.
but when i connect any computer directly to router's lan interface to initiate traffic , it doesnot work at all. and on computer's lan i see yeloow sign.
mtu is 1500, speed is auto (I tried changing also) , duplex is auto ( i tried changing also) , through firewall on pc should not affect but still i disabled it.
since their is no problem with vpn config as vpn comes up when i initiate ping from router itself but i dont know why it is not working from lan.
do we need any inspect icmp on this router also ? or any policy modification to pass traffic across the interfac on router is required ?
I was useinf c2900k9-15.0(M4).bin and i upgraded it to 15.3 which is lated to get reed of any bug .
I connected two laptops directly to router's gi0/0, g0/1 interface to ping from one laptop to another but this also did not work.

Is it possible to run 802.1Q on a point to point Ethernet circuit between 2 Cisco ISR routers? I need to carry multiple VLANs across an ethernet WAN circuit but not sure if a Cisco router would let me do this. I can surely lab up but was looking for expert opinion on what's best aproach to carry multiple VLAN across the WAN ethernet. Plugging the circuit to a LAN switch is not an option since this is a managed WAN router.

I have a requirement where 3 Branch locations of an organization is connected to their hub location via MPLS.They have an internet connection only at HUB as shown in the diagram (Attached)Now all spoke locations should access internet via hub.At spoke locations is there a way that I can have Cisco 2900 router and dedicate only 30% of the WAN bandwidth for internet browsing traffic.Remaining 70% should be used for accessing applications at hub.
For example if i have 5 Mbps Mpls port at spoke I want to dedicate only 1 Mbps for internet browsing traffic remaining should be dedicated for accessing the application at hub.How can we acheive this? Can it be done by using PBR and rate limiting?

we have connected gig interface Ethernet on Cisco 2900 series router to mpls link connected to our corporate network ,the issue here is our router interface speed and duplex settings are set to auto negotiation. The interface is negotiating speed and duplex at 10 and half where the provider side interface is hard coded to 100 and full duplex.when we tried to hard code the settings on our router to match the provider the interface never come up.

I have a frustrating issue with a dynamic VPN head end running IOS 15.2 on 2900's. I have existing keyrings, and isakmp profiles (both main and agressive) running. When I add in a new peer, by adding in a keyring prechared statement and a match identity in the isakmp profile, phase 1 biulds but phase 2 only gets right to the end and the Cisco side resets the connection because it did not get back a response to it's Phase 2 proposal.I have tried a number of soft clear commands to remedy this (I do have 16 other production tunnels I do not want to take down) and no avail. This is very consistent. We had this happen last week in the same manner, and the TAC finally said I must reboot the system. So I removed the cmap from the interface, and reapplied it (using notepad to do it all at once). All the tunnels dropped, and after a few manual restarts on the far end for thos etunnels that are tempermental, all tunnels came back up, including my new add.I have a pair of 3900's running 15.1 code in the US that terminate the same tunnels, and I can add and remove PEERS all day long without resetting anything. Could there be a more polite way of resetting what ever it is that removing the CMAP does to allow my new peer to get the full treatment here?
crypto pki token default removal timeout 0
crypto keyring Site-to-Site
pre-shared-key address a.a.a.a key lkdshjfhjkdsfkjfsjkddedswdes
pre-shared-key address b.b.b.b key lkdshjfhjkdsfkjfsjkddedswdes
[Code] .....
I just negate this and re-add and new peers start working.

Trying to set-up a p2p link between a L2 fast ethenet module (within a 2900) to a 6506.Have created a subinterface SVI on the 2900 and put the fast ethernet port in the respective VLAN. However on 6506, am I correct in thinking I can do a no switchport and just create a L3 interface? Do I need to put the 6506 in the same vlan and the fast ethernet module and create a L3 SVI on it? As it's not a trunk port between the 6506 and the fastethernet module, the packets won't be tagged?

I understand the vlans on the catalyst side of the house on 2900 to 6500 Catalyst switches.
This 7010 running nx-os 5.1(3) I did not setup, but have to manage it. Hasn't really been a proble till now.
My nexus 7010 has a Layer 2 only vlan 11. It is "Active" but the interface is "shutdown". Yet, it is passing traffic across the directly connected ports on the nexus 7010 and to other switches in my network. Vlan 11 is being set out via VTP to all my switches and things are running fine.
I need to create another L2 only Vlan. I can't seem to find any docs that indicate that a Layer2 vlan Interface on nx-os should be in "shutdown" mode as part of the setup. I do see in the docs where it has to be set "Active" as part of the process.
Is this the correct way to seutp a L2 only vlan on nex-os? Leave the interface in "shutdown" but make it "Active"?
Mystery Vlan 4 and 6
The mystery deepens. I have other L2 vlans ,Vlan4&6 that are NOT defined as "Interface Vlan4" in the nexus config, yet it is applied to GigE ports on the nexus and these Vlans 4/6is also being sent out VTP to all switches. Even weirder is that these vlans have names associated with the numbers. These are valid Vlans that were configured on the old 6509 before the Nexus was installed.
I have checked all switches, NONE are running in Server mode for VTP, all are in CLIENT. The nexus 7010 is the only device running in VTP Server mode.

We recently purchased a Cisco 2921 router to be our edge device for a small satellite office (24 users). In addition, to the router we purchased a vwic3-2mft-t1/e1 module. Now the surprise, we ordered a bonded T1, I thought we were getting frame-relay circuits from Verizon, but someone ordered a 3M IMA circuit. I am new to configuring serial connections, and had planned out a frame-relay configuration. With that said, I have the following questions:
1. Can I setup a working serial connection to Verizon using the installed ATM circuit and the 2921 and vwic3-2mft-t1/e1 card I have? If not, what do I need in conjunction with the 2921?
2. With the frame-relay configuration, I enable controllers, configured the MFR interface and sub-interface, and serials. How much different is setting up serial ATM connections?

There is some way to increase the speed of changing the interface state from DOWN to UP when the cable is connected. I need to configure a port of Cisco 4503 in a way that when a cable is connected the port goes immediatly UP.
A solution can be to keep Cisco interface always UP and I remember that with "no keepalive" command to the interface configuration it was possible. But I tried and nothing happens.

Is there a keyword that we use under the interface to specify that it is purely management?
We need to assure that the subnet and any node on that subnet is not shared with the default routing table.
how do we set the gateway for the management interface if the node we are sourcing the ssh session from is on a different private subnet?

I found that ADSL is packet switching type of communictaion. Definition for circuit switching is "A type of communications in which a dedicated channel (or circuit) is established for the duration of a transmission."In practical, telco line connects to the ADSL modem/router through which we are communicating to internet. In this context I have some doubt. The telco line which is connected to our ADSL modem is not shared with any other device ,connects only to the CO of the telco where we get the internet connection. That means the line which connects to the modem is dedicated upto CO.then it becomes circuit switching or not upto the CO.

It is a single router with dual ISPs. It is a 2800 and there is failover configured. I have implemented object tracking and the feature works great except that lately, whenever there is a lot of traffic coming perhaps from the internal users, we start getting intermittent outages.
I have gone deep into looking into this problem and have determined that our ISP#1 does not have any problems. What I think is happening is that whenever the router receives a lot of packets (30-40 users on the internal network) destined to the outside, the router CPU maybe gets too busy and the router then believes that the objects are no longer reachable and it triggers a failover which causes the router to re-direct traffic to the ISP#2. Then, because these are just quick burst of traffic, in the next 30 to 45 seconds after the router re-directed the traffic to ISP#2, the router object tracking engine detects that the objects are now again reachable and this then causes the router to re-direct all traffic back to ISP#1.
This cycle then continues all day on how to prevent this.
Is there a way to perhaps tell the router to completely shut down the interface facing ISP#1 whenever there is a hicup and to keep it shutdown for at least 8 hours? This way I can prevent the router from going crazy.
Or is there a way to perhaps prevent this at the internal (LAN) interface? Are there some metrics like QoS that I can implement on the internal Fast Ethernet Interface to prevent the burst of traffic from eating up the CPU?

Imagine you have 5 sites, one router each site (2851 as CE) connected to MPLS network. All sites have max 3xT1.Requirement:In case CE router or circuit to MPLS fails in any of those sites, I need to provide backup circuit to reach MPLS network.
Proposal:Bring one Internet circuit to each of those sites and create DMVPN to every site.
Question:Let's say Site1-MPLS circuit goes donwn.
Then all traffic from Site1-MPLS should flow thru the IPSec tunnel to all other MPLS sites. Am I right that the traffic coming from Site1-MPLS will ingress via the 2851 CE routers, correct? Is this the typical design? How to accomplish this, I'd like to setup a lab to simulate it.

I installed two AIR-AP1142N-E-K9 access points, running a fairly simple config, WPA2 PSK, with AES cipher, both the same SSID.The two access points are connected to Cisco 2960G switches, which are in turn connected to each other, again without any fancy config options, no VLAN's ed.
After a random while, varying from 30 minutes to 15 hours, the access points will stop sending/recieving traffic on the ethernet interface. The units don't stop at the same moment, this also varies seemingly random. It's not related to load or the amount of clients (1 to 15).Only turning on one unit doesn't make any difference.
The units keep sending out their SSID, you can associate to them, but the DHCP requests aren't passed on to the DHCP server which is connected to one of the 2960G's.If you wirelessly connect to the AP and set a manual IP adress you can reach the webinterface and telnet/ssh to the access point. The ethernet link is reported as being up on the access point. Also the switch reports a link on the port to which the access point is connected.Resetting the link does have no effect. The log doesn't mention any errors or warnings.Power cycling or reloading the access point will put it back in working order for a varying amount of time.
Access point version:
