Cisco Switching/Routing :: 1841 - Connecting Routers Via Serial Interface

Oct 22, 2012

While I managed to connect to each router individually, I decided it was time to connect the routers together via serial; as I don't have any serial cables and need to buy some, what serial cables I need, as well as to ask whether I have the right cards in my router(s) that will allow me to do so.

I bought 3 1841 routers, and all have a 1 port serial WAN Interface Card (WIC 1-T); one router has 2 of these, and one router has a WIC-1B-S/T .. My question is, can I connect the routers with a serial cable via WIC 1-T, or do I need a 2-T

Cisco Switching/Routing :: PPP Multilink Not Coming Up On Serial Interface / 3620 Router?

Nov 1, 2011

I just finished setting up a bundle of (2) T1's in a multilink bundle and I'm having issues with one of the T1's not wanting to join the bundle.

The router I'm using on the remote office location is a 3620 router running code c3620-i-mz.121-1c.bin

The campus router which is a 7206 is setup the same exact way with multilink 240 and like I've said, serial 0/0 is joined to the bundle just fine, so we are running off one T1 connection.

The serial interface that is not working is: serial 0/1

Here is a show-run:

interface Multilink240
ip address 172.18.xxx.xxx 255.255.255.252
ip route-cache flow
ip ospf network point-to-point

I have a CANYON Wireless N Router CNP-WF514N1A. It was working properly, but I changed its deafult password to my own . (192.168.0.1 -> wireless security -> new pass -> okay -> reboot computer ). After I restarted the computer, the router stopped working. The lights on it are fine, and if I plug the net cable into the computer I have internet too. The problem is, if I plug the cable into the router, I don't have internet. And I can't open 192.168.0.1 either.

Cisco WAN :: Serial Interface On WIC-1DSU-t1V2 Down

Apr 28, 2012

I have a remote site that still utilizes a single T1 connection to me.  For multiple reasons we had to scrap the old T1 and have a new one put in.  The old T1 resided on a T3 as channel 25.  The new T1 is a standlone point to point.  I removed the old config from my 7301 and programmed my 3725.  I cannot figure out what is going on but the interface stays down/down.  There is no loopback turned on, either manually or by the carrier.  The AL LED stays amber regardless of whether or not I have a cable patched down.  The CD LED remains green when I patch a cable down.  LP is not light.I am using a straight through Ethernet cable to connect my 3725 to the smart jack.  If you look at the show output below you will see DCD and CTS is down. Since the remote end was working and I just had the tech move the patch cable from one smart jack to another I am assuming the problem is on my side or with the carrierI already tried changing the clock sourced between internal and line.  I also swapped out the WIC card for another one. I don't usually program T1 connections. [code]

Cisco WAN :: 1760 - Packet Drops In Serial Interface

Feb 11, 2013

We have a Cisco 1760 router . We are facing sevier packet drops in the serial interface.

When i swap the router with another router link is working working fine.

Troubleshooting steps taken

1.       Swap the serial cable with another working cable : no change in state

2.       Reconfigure the encapsulation commands (with PPP and HDLC) : no change in state

3.       Try with a decreased MTU packet Ping : no change in state

4.       Decreased the Input queue and increased the output queue size using   hold-queue in command : Comparatively the packet drop is reducing but still a 10 percent drop is happening.

Cisco WAN :: 3845-MB Dropping Pings To Its Own Serial Interface?

May 16, 2013

I'm having an issue that I can't quite understand. I set up a test lab to get familiar with EIGRP routing. I have a Cisco 3845-MB with 2 VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1 cards.sh ip int brief shows UP UP status on all serial ports. I gave it an IP address but I'm having trouble pinging the serial interface IP. It's dropping pings to its own S 1/1/0 interface when pinging from console. I have known good T1 crossover cables 1&2 - 4&5.

Here is the "ip int brief" from 3845-MB

3845-MB#sh ip int brief
Interface                  IP-Address      OK? Method Status                Prot
ocol
GigabitEthernet0/0         unassigned      YES NVRAM  administratively down down
GigabitEthernet0/1         172.30.2.1      YES NVRAM  up                    up
Serial1/1/0:0              10.3.29.2       YES manual up                    up

Right now it's pinging itself at about 60 -90% success rate... and I can't figure out why it's dropping any packets at all. I have other issues with in the lab as well... but i think this might be my "core" issue. To make matters even more "weird" I've tried two different VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1 cards and I drop pings with both of them.

Here is a sh run and a sh diag:

3845-MB#sh run
Building configuration...
Current configuration : 1434 bytes

Cisco Switches :: Linksys SRW2016 Switch Serial Console Not Working

Jan 5, 2011

I have had the switch for about 2 years and recently moved.  The manual specifies:

38400 bps and 8-n-1 serial port settings using DB9F to DB9F cable.

I have done this and tried using multiple machines/ports/cables as well as several peices of software (minicom, PuTTy, hyperterminal) and none give me any output from the switch at all.

The trouble is that in its original config, it had 1 port locked into its own VLAN for management with port security and an obscure RFC1918 IP address which I cannot recall for the life of me.

At this point, I have no access to TCP/IP management so serial console is my last hope and is not working.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3640 GLBP Working Now Want Interface Redundancy?

Dec 6, 2011

So I have 2 routers (cisco 3640) that each go to their own ISP and then back to the same switch.  I have setup ospf and glbp, and now have pretty good redundancy.  If either internet connection or routers go down everything is still golden.

So I was thinking that if an interface went down then the router would not be load balanced with glbp which got me thinking whats the best way to get interface redundancy (and I was going to add a 2nd switch with the second interface).

1) Setup BVI on the 2 interfaces.
2) Setup a 2nd interfaces (on each router), I would have to split the subnet, for instance: [code]then the machines could be on the subnet 192.168.0. 0/23 and setup glbp for 1 ip across all 4 interfaces (I'm not even sure if you can do this but think it would work).
3) Is there a way to utilize etherchannel or anything like this

A negative to option 2 would be that if 1 of the interfaces went down, all the sudden 2/3 (or so) of your traffic would be going through 1 router.

I have 4 different switches and all the stickers have a serial that starts with JPE.. and both "show version" and "show sprom 1" and "show sprom 2" gives me a completely different serial number that starts wtih JAE... All of these serial numbers I get from the CLI match with each other. The command "show sprom chassis"  says "Feature not supported."

Is it possible to find the serial number that matches the sticker from the CLI on a 2948G? Why does Cisco make this so confusing?

Protocols / Routing :: Hosted VPN / IP Forwarding / Routing And Bridging?

Apr 5, 2011

I have got a PC at work (Windows XP Pro SP3) that is on two networks with the IPs 10.20.30.167, subnet 255.255.255.0 (internet enabled) and 10.0.0.20, subnet 255.255.255.0 (no internet). On the 10.0.0.X network there is a gateway with the IP 10.0.0.200 allowing access to another network; 192.168.60.X, subnet 255.255.255.0 (no internet). I have added the route on my work PC to access the 192.168.60.X network via this gateway and I can access all PCs on all three networks from this PC.Now, I am using LogMeIn Hamachi so that I can access the networks at work from home. The PC at work is the 'gateway' PC on the Hamachi network. When installing Hamachi it created a new network connection and bridged this connection with my 10.20.30.167 network adapter to allow access to the 10.20.30.X network from an external PC when connected using the Hamachi VPN connection. I have manually configured my Hamachi connection on my PC at home to the IP 10.20.30.169, subnet 255.255.255.0, with the default gateway set to 10.20.30.167. I can ping all computers on the 10.20.30.X network from my PC at home.

I then added a route on my PC at home for 10.0.0.X to go via 10.20.30.167 (the 'gateway' on the Hamachi network). I also enabled IP forwarding on the 'gateway' PC (my PC at work). I can not ping any PC on the 10.0.0.X network from my PC at home apart from 10.0.0.20 (the other NIC in the Hamachi gateway PC) and 10.0.0.30 (another PC on the 10.20.30.X network that is also on the 10.0.0.X network). Now, with IP forwarding enabled on the Hamachi gateway PC I would assume after adding the route on my PC at home for 10.0.0.X traffic to go via 10.20.30.167 that I would be able to ping all PCs on the 10.0.0.X network...I also tried adding a route on my home PC to send all traffic for the 192.168.60.X network via 10.20.30.167 which has a route via 10.0.0.200 to the 192.168.60.X network, but this also did not work.I then tried adding the 10.0.0.20 network adapter into the network bridge that the Hamachi connection made, also keeping both IPs (10.20.30.167 and 10.0.0.20) on this network bridge by adding them into the 'IP Settings' in the 'Advanced TCI/IP Settings'. I also added the 10.0.0.200 gateway for good measure. I still cannot ping any PC on the 10.0.0.X or 192.168.60.X networks from my PC at home.

I have also added the route to the 10.20.30.X network on a PC on the 10.0.0.X network to go via 10.0.0.20 and tried pinging a PC on the 10.20.30.X network but this also has not worked. Also setting the default gateway on a PC on the 10.0.0.X network to 10.0.0.20 does not allow this...Surely bridging the networks 10.20.30.167 and 10.0.0.20 on my work PC would allow another PC on the 10.0.0.X network to access the 10.20.30.X network after adding the route or setting 10.0.0.20 as the default gateway?

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACS 5.1 Web Interface Not Working

Mar 31, 2011

We have a Cisco Access Control Server (TACACS+ version 5.1) with an additional 2 port NIC card. This produces 4 ports on the ACS server(G0 through G3).After initial setup of the ACS server with an IP address on G0, I connected a Windows 7server with IE8 to G0. The ACS web interface appears (after accepting certificate) and Ientered some user accounts and NDGs.I then connected the ACS server to a configured port with port-security on our 6500switch. The port becomes err-disabled since the MAC address does not match up. It appearsthat the onboard NIC on the ACS server is bonded thus producing the MAC address issue. To fix this connection issue, on the ACS server, I cleared out G0 and setup G2 (additiional NIC card) with the IP address. After connecting to the 6500 switch, the ACS server port works fine. I removed the connection to the 6500 and connected the Windows server to the ACS.I can ping the ACS server but the web interface is now unavailable unlike before. I do not get a certificate warning on IE, it just states that internet not available. On ACS, the 'show' status of acs shows all the processes are running and initialized. It has got me stumped as all I did was change NIC configurationon the ACS server.

Computer B in connected to internet with DSL connection.

On both machines I use TeamViewer to make VPN secure tunnel between this two computers. Computer A gets IP:7.200.100.2 Computer B gets IP:7.200.100.3

How can I access from computer B to specific device with IP 192.168.33.250 which is on local network of computer A?

Is it possible to route traffic from VPN to other local network, or it is some possibility to use port forwarding from VPN connection to specific IP address on the local network to specific port number?

Protocols / Routing :: Escalate An Internet Routing Beyond My ISP?

Apr 5, 2013

We have a PPPoE DSL link with a dedicated IP providing by a small ISP(ISP A) in Canada. We are having trouble reaching a small group of IPs in the US to be able to access some client resources. We have eliminated all possible local issues by removing the firewall and making a direct connection to the ISP. We have also had numerous tests prove successful when we use other local ISPs.

Trace routes show that the packets get dropped a few hops from the destination on a US ISP(ISP B).The routes even appear to be very similar to the other ISPs we tested. We escalated to ISP A and they say that everything is working properly on their end and the problem is with ISP B. They claim they "have no partnership with ISP B and therefore cannot create a ticket to get it resolved". I tried calling ISP B but I get nowhere because I am not a customer of theirs.

My solution is to give ISP A the boot, but management has denied that request because of the amount of effort required to switch over. How I can escalate this? Is there anyway to go over and above the ISPs?
