Cisco :: Prime LMS 4.2.3 / Exceeds Data Buffer Size Discarding This Snmp Request

Mar 11, 2013

Cisco Prime LMS 4.2.3 is sending SNMP request too big for asa interface buffer.LMS is running on Windows server incoming SNMP request (528 bytes) from IP address x.x.x.x  Port  50592  Interface "inside" exceeds data buffer size, discarding this SNMP  request.

212005: incoming SNMP request (%d bytes) from %s exceeds data buffer size, discarding this SNMP request. It is very much like this error

Error Message    %PIX-3-212005: incoming SNMP request (number bytes) on interface interface_name exceeds data buffer size, discarding this SNMP request.

#Explanation    This is an SNMP message. This message reports that the length of the incoming SNMP  request, destined for the firewall, exceeds the size of the internal data buffer (512 bytes) used for  storing the request during internal processing; therefore, the firewall is unable to process this request.  This does not affect the SNMP traffic passing through the firewall via any interface.

#Recommended Action    Have the SNMP management station resend the request with a shorter length,  for example, instead of querying multiple MIB variables in one request, try querying only one MIB  variable in a request. This may involve modifying the configuration of the SNMP manager software.

how do I change the SNMP request size in LMS? I can only find the following that might be an option

[URL]

just using default settings with snmpv3

Cisco WAN :: 7613 How To Adjust Change Over Buffer Size At Link-set Sub-command

Apr 13, 2011

I was wondering about command of Linkset subcommand at ITP7613.I have been using the Cisco7613 chassis for the ITP(SIGTRAN) service.

However, i know that the "tx-queue-depth" command is used for sctp multihoming buffersize that between primary and secondary path at the Link sub-command mode. but i can't adjust the changeover buffersize(retrieval buffer) that between link and another link at the Linkset subcommand mode.
It's above my comprehension.

My guess is that related to "plan-capacity-rcvd" command. it's right?I want to know command that adjust the buffersize of Link changeover.

Cisco :: WCS 7.0.240.0 Data Export To Prime 1.2.1.012?

Apr 18, 2013

I'm trying to migrate old data from WCS 7.0 to Prime 1.2 ... I have already created the zip file from WCS and imported it into the defaultRepo on Prime.  I see it in the directory when I do a show repository defaultRepo so I have confirmed that it is there.  My issue is that it appears Prime 1.2.1.012 won't accept the cli command of ncs migrate.

how I can proceed with the migration?  I haven't been able to find any similar command in the Prime CLI so at this point I'm lost as to where I should go from here.  I really don't want to have to tell the customer they have to downgrade to Prime 1.1 in order for them to perserve their maps especially since the Deployment Guide for Prime Infrastructure states that it is possible to migrate date from WCS 7.0 to Prime 1.2 as shown below ...

Data Migration
#
Data can be migrated from WCS 7.0, NCS 1.1, or LMS 4.x. More details on migrating data from each of these applications are spelled out in the following sections.

Cisco :: UBR7246VRX Give Wrong Data Over SNMP

Jun 7, 2011

Have a few UBR7246VRX CMTS routers running Version 12.2(33)SCE2. It seems that I have a problem regarding Docsis 3.0 modems and SNMP output from the CMTS.

My managment-system (with a mrtg lookalike function) is collecting data from the CMTS every few minuts collecting data regarding data in downstream and upstream, total of modems and so on.

The problem I have seen is that the CMTS is not giving me the correct data when a ED3.0 modem is downloading or uploading.

E.g:

Cisco :: 7606 / 2811 - SNMP And Netflow Difference Displaying Different Data For Same Interfaces

Nov 29, 2012

I've got an issue with SNMP and netflow tools. They are displaying different data for the same (sub)interfaces.I've got metroethernet link which connects root A (Cisco 7606, 12.2(18)SXF8) and root B (Cisco 2811, 12.3(11)TS). MPLS is configured on the link (behind root B there is no more MPLS). I'm attaching root configurations (I've ommited parts of config).Interfaces are:

Root A - gi2/6.2144
Root B - fa0/1

I've configured SNMP and netflow on both devices. I'm using two SNMP tools (CA Spectrum and eHealth) and two netflow tools (CA NetQoS Reporter Analyzer and Fluke Networks NetFlow Tracker) to collect the data. SNMP tools show the same info for defined (sub)interface.Netflow tools also show the same info for defined (sub)interface. I'm attaching reports from one SNMP tool and one netflow tool for the same time period.

1. Looking at SNMP tool, it can be seen quite amount of that data in both in and out direction.
2. Looking at netflow tool, it can be seen quite amount of that data in out direction, while in direction shows small amount of data.

I'm aware that Cisco has difficulties with SNMP counters on subinterfaces. I'm also aware that MPLS netflow has its own difficulties.Root B netflow configuration is quite simple as it has just 2 interfaces to configure netflow on (Fa0/0 and Fa0/1). So I would guess SNMP and netflow data should match, but they don't. When you look at SNMP tool reports for roots A and B, it can be seen that traffic volume is practically mirrored.

Cisco :: Migrate From Prime LMS 4.0.1 To Prime Infrastructure

May 9, 2013

I'm currently running CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 on Windows 2003 under VMware and just got upgrade licensing for Prime Infrastructure 1.2.  I am assuming that I will need to upgrade the current server to Prime LMS 4.2 in order to ensure that data migration to Prime Infrastructure goes well.  I am planning to follow Cisco's recommendation to run Prime LMS and Prime Infrastructure in parallel for a time and migrate individual functions.

My real question is about Syslog handling.  All of the managed devices are currently sending Syslog data to LMS.  As a last step in the migration, is it possible to change the IP address of the Prime Infrastructure server to replace the Prime LMS server so that the Prime Infrastructure server will just start getting all the Syslog data, or do I need to go change hundreds of managed devices to point to a new address?

Music And Videos Take Too Long To Buffer?

Feb 23, 2012

I use to could be able to watch videos and listen to music, and download at optimal speeds, I could even watch HD if I wanted to, but now all of a sudden (starting at least 3 weeks ago) videos, downloads, and music seem to run super slow no matter what quality I have it on. It takes 5 minutes to buffer a 3 min video, and if I want to watch a show, it take like 2 or 3 hours to fully buffer. My internet still goes fast, and I have trendmicro antivirus, as well as ccleaner, i updated my drivers, i have ie9 and adobe flashhplayer 11.1, i updated everything in windows update, i unplugged the modem for awhile and shut down more often, and opened it up and blew all the dust out. I don't know what else to do. I do have a cisco E2000 wireless router if that's a problem, and both my ps3 and my computer are on the connection, but my computer was working fine with both on the same connection for a year. I go on the http:192.168.1.1 cisco place, and i renewed ip settings, and nothing worked.

Using A Switch Causes Local Streaming Buffer

Sep 25, 2011

About a week ago, without any change to my network settings, I began having a problem with streaming 1080p content from my media server to a router, wired to a switch that serves a few devices in my home theater (including a HTPC, my Boxee Box). Every 15 seconds movies have to buffer. After a while, I narrowed it down to the switch, since wiring the Boxee Box straight to the router caused the movies to run perfectly.Logically, I thought the switch was the problem, since I really made no changes on my network/DD-WRTRouter other than running a Minecraft server (which shutting that down made no difference in network performance).

I ordered a brand new gigabit switch, same problem. Pinging the BoxeeBox returns 0 packet loss whether it's connected to the switch or router, but movies still play perfectly fine when directly connected to the router. Different cables didn't work. Ok, well, I thought maybe the other devices on that switch were causing some sort of conflict.. changed the BoxeeBox's static IP just in-case, unplugged every other device from the switch so that only the BoxeeBox and Router were connected to the switch. It worked fine! Yay! Tried a different cable, still worked fine. Great, I thought, so the problem was never my switch... plugged the old switch back in, then the problem returned.

Changed back to my new switch (each time power cycling all of the network devices) and the problem persisted, even with the SAME EXACT setup I just had a few minutes previously that worked fine. Tearing my hair out at this point.Since that moment I still haven't been able to reproduce a perfect stream unless the BoxeeBox is directly connected to the router. This doesn't make ANY sense as I had this setup running perfectly fine since November 2010. I am COMPLETELY out of ideas other than running multiple ethernet wires to that drop or running all the other devices on wireless.

Cisco :: 1720 / Maximum Log Buffer For Various Router Platforms?

Jun 12, 2012

I would like to define a general policy for our company to set the log buffer ("logging buffered xxx"). Currently, most of our configs use the default value of 4096, which does not store much of the history. I'd like to see more, when logged onto a router. We are using different router platforms (from old 1700 up to 39xx oder 72xx) Can you give me any hints, how large the buffer can be set on a platform? Which checks should I do to determine, how large I can set the buffer?

Here's an example of a Cisco 1720 router:

Cisco1720#sh mem
Head    Total(b)     Used(b)     Free(b)   Lowest(b)  Largest(b)
Processor   81AECE9C    17803244     5548816    12254428    12010916    11815908
I/O    2B43000     4968448     1560416     3408032     3374144     3396668

Cisco says: "Total = the total amount of memory available after the system image loads and builds its data structures."So, in this example, the total bytes are 17803244, which is ~ 16.9 Mbyte. So, if I allocate 64000 bytes, my total buffer will decrease to ~16,3 Mbyte.

I my calculation above is correct, I see no problem in defining a standard value of "logging buffered 64000" for every router platform - even under high load conditions. Since 64 kbytes is a very small value compared to the total usable memory of a Cisco 1720, newer platforms should not have any problems either.

Cisco WAN :: 2851 And 1841 / Buffer Failures On Boot?

Oct 17, 2012

I have a 2851 and a 1841 both serving as hub routers in a GRE multipoint configuration.  They are both receiving buffer misses and failures on startup.  I will post the output of show buffers below:

LAB-HUB-RTR#show buffers
Buffer elements:
607 in free list (500 max allowed)
9071 hits, 0 misses, 618 created

Public buffer pools:

Small buffers, 104 bytes (total 71, permanent 50, peak 71 @ 00:11:33):
68 in free list (20 min, 150 max allowed)
7083 hits, 74 misses, 0 trims, 21 created
55 failures (0 no memory)

[code]....

I have tried increasing the small/medium buffers initial size and permanent size, however there is no change.  The buffer failures for small and medium buffers are always around this many every boot.I have also changed the IOS versions between 12.4.24(T4) to 15.1 with no luck in stopping the failures.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 TX-queue Buffer Sizes

May 29, 2013

We're having some issues with a 3560 CPE. It's uplink is a GE fiber link, customer port is FE RJ45. We see a lot of TX-frames being dropped at the FE port, but none at the GE port. Even when the customer is only at ~50Mbit/s downstream traffic. When customer sending ~50Mbit/s upstream, there are no TX- drops at the GE link. Is this a normal behaviour? From what I know the physical medium shouldn't have any inpact on this since drops occurs in the port- asic, and not in physical transmission.Do the buffer-sizes between GE and FE differ? What could we do to optimize the flow and reduce drops? QoS is set to off and no modifications on the queues have been made on the interfaces.
