But I am wondering will my overall connection speed decrease if I have multiple devices on? I am just curious as to if I have both say an xbox 360 and my computer on.
About a week ago, without any change to my network settings, I began having a problem with streaming 1080p content from my media server to a router, wired to a switch that serves a few devices in my home theater (including a HTPC, my Boxee Box). Every 15 seconds movies have to buffer. After a while, I narrowed it down to the switch, since wiring the Boxee Box straight to the router caused the movies to run perfectly.Logically, I thought the switch was the problem, since I really made no changes on my network/DD-WRTRouter other than running a Minecraft server (which shutting that down made no difference in network performance).
I ordered a brand new gigabit switch, same problem. Pinging the BoxeeBox returns 0 packet loss whether it's connected to the switch or router, but movies still play perfectly fine when directly connected to the router. Different cables didn't work. Ok, well, I thought maybe the other devices on that switch were causing some sort of conflict.. changed the BoxeeBox's static IP just in-case, unplugged every other device from the switch so that only the BoxeeBox and Router were connected to the switch. It worked fine! Yay! Tried a different cable, still worked fine. Great, I thought, so the problem was never my switch... plugged the old switch back in, then the problem returned.
Changed back to my new switch (each time power cycling all of the network devices) and the problem persisted, even with the SAME EXACT setup I just had a few minutes previously that worked fine. Tearing my hair out at this point.Since that moment I still haven't been able to reproduce a perfect stream unless the BoxeeBox is directly connected to the router. This doesn't make ANY sense as I had this setup running perfectly fine since November 2010. I am COMPLETELY out of ideas other than running multiple ethernet wires to that drop or running all the other devices on wireless.

within ACS 5.3, I'd like to use 2 external authenticator for the same service, like vpn remote-access.For the authentication, I know I can create an identity chain, to query SecurID and then AD, in case of user not found in SecurID.For the authorization rules, I need to provider a wide vèn access for SecurID users and narrow vpn access for AD user. Are there some parameter to use in compound conditions for SecurID ?
View 1 Replies View Relatedis it possible to block outgonig multicast L2 frames on an Ethernet port in outgoing direction on a 2960 Switch?
I tried the "switchport block multicast" command, but the description of this feature relates to only "unknown" multicast!?
But what means "unknown multicast"? Even if activated, I see a lot of multicast traffic going out that port: IGMP, PIM, SSDP, HSRP, OSPF, .. and also pings and VLC streams to multicastaddresses (ip igmp snooping disabled).
I also tried to map a "mac access-list" to that port, but the "mac access-group" interface command is restricted to only incoming traffic.
Reason: we assume, that there are a couple of specific enddevices, that might react strange to some multicast. Therefor we would like to block outgoing multicast on that specific ports.
I tested it on a 2960 12.2(53)SE2
i cannot send emails to outside, i have an access rule on interface inside permit source: inside destination: any servic: tcp/smtp and when i make paket tracer it shows me that the packet is dropped but i cant see through which rule!!
ASA version: 8.4(3)
ASDM version 6.4(7)
I want to be able to use port 1-80 for all outgoing traffic. I have a VPS outside my home, which can redirect the packets to the prober ports. Is it possible with an application on the computer and VPS? Or is it impossible?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a licensing server. Other computers need to turn on a program, they send a message to the licensing server, and it responds that they have permission to run.Until today the licensing server was plugged into its own ethernet wall socket and configured with a static IP address. Today I put a router into that wall socket and now the server's plugged into the router. The router (WRT-54G) was set to the static IP - and now the internet on its network works. I set all ports to be forwarded to the server's internal IP address - and now my programs can detect and ping it. But now the server won't send back permissions to use licensed software, or even reply with a list of the software which it can license.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago i started experiencing very slow download speeds... things like streaming online videos and having to wait which i have not had to do for the last 4 years. I did a speed test on multiple sites and my download speed comes out at about .2mbps and my upload is still where it should be at .6-.8mbps. I have a 12mbps connection so this does not make sense at all. Originally thinking it was malware, I formatted both my hard drives and did a clean install of windows 7 and it did nothing to resolve the issue. Could it be that my wireless card's radio is failing?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWe have a WDS connection between two AP541 access points, where one AP is connected to a SA540 with cable. The AP in the other end of the WDS does just act as a repeater, broadcasting using the same SSID and channel with WPA-PSK, as the cabled AP. For the WDS channel, we have tried WPA/WEP/none encryption without any difference. Spanning tree is enabled. 802.11 mode is 'bgn'.
Sitting physically beside the remote AP (the "other" and uncabled end of WDS) with a laptop using Intel 802.11bg adapter, we get a speed in the range 5-7Mbit/sec connecting to the cabled AP (3 of 5 bars signal strength in the traybar icon on Win7). But switching to the remote AP, which is beeing feed by the WDS from the same cabled AP previously being connected to, we do just get a measured bandwidth of 1-2Mbit/sec. I understand that some throughput is lost using WDS, but this does still look like a big decrease?Any experience using WDS with AP541, who can comment on if this is expected or not, and eventually any thing we can do to increase the speed?
They have an ASA-5510 with version 8.2(5). They just upgraded their Internet bandwidth to 30 Mb both ways.If we do a speed test in front of the ASA, we get 28 Mb/s upload and download, with a ping of about 5 to 10 ms.If we go behind the ASA, the download is about the same, the upload is decreased to about 12 Mb/s and the ping goes to 260 ms The license is base, there are no additionnal function added to the firewall (no IPS). I've check the speed and duplex and everything is fine. There are no drops on the interfaces or rules of the firewall, no drops on the Interface of the ISP router either. All interfaces are configured at 100Mb full duplex.I saw a couple of discussions on this in the forums, but they don't seem to come up with anything and they look like they end in the middle of the whole story, like once the problem is solved, they don't update their discussion.
View 6 Replies View RelatedOn the supervisor card of a cisco 6500 series, according to the following link, [URL] it only has 2 uplink ports on the card. Would I be correct in assuming that I only have those to ports that I can configure IP addresses on?
The cisco that is being devlivere is coming with a 48 port switch and 24 port fibre switch. Could I change any of those ports into a router port and configure IP addresses on those?
The supervisor card is a ws-sup-720-3b the 48 port switch is a ws-x6748-ge-tx the 24 port fibre switch is ws-x6724-sfp
I'm fairly new to Cisco products am in the process of developing my network knowledge on a deeper level. I have a 3825 with a HWIC-4ESW and I'm struggling to fully understand how the two "see" each other. I've setup a V LAN with a layer 3 address on the HWIC and added the switch ports to it. This seemed to allow devices connected to the switch ports to talk to the built-in router ports. I thought this was all making sense until i applied an access-list to the router port. It's a simple ACL i'm just using for testing and the only thing it does is blocks telnet from anywhere. I know the ACL is setup properly because if I connect a device directly to the router port i cannot telnet to the port. However, if i connect a device to one of the switch ports, i am able to telnet to the router port successfully.
It seems that I'm missing something with how traffic flows from the switch port to the router ports and how the two "see" each other.
what is the use of no switch port command in L3 switch?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been having this problem for quite some time, mostly since my mother bought her first Asus Laptop that came with an Asus WL-530g V2 wireless router.Problem is sometimes I get a random disconnect where Local Area Connection is identifying. On some occasions it reconnects on it's own after a few seconds, other times I have to diagnose the problem and I get a "Windows doesn't have a valid IP config" problem but it fixes that. The other problem, and I don't know if the two are related is that very often, for short/long periods of time I get a drastic reduction of internet speed. From what I can tell, it's got to be something to do with the network configuration or the actual router itself, it's very old and Asus stopped making firmware for it in '09. Useful data Basically I have a wired connection from my desktop to the wireless router.

I use to could be able to watch videos and listen to music, and download at optimal speeds, I could even watch HD if I wanted to, but now all of a sudden (starting at least 3 weeks ago) videos, downloads, and music seem to run super slow no matter what quality I have it on. It takes 5 minutes to buffer a 3 min video, and if I want to watch a show, it take like 2 or 3 hours to fully buffer. My internet still goes fast, and I have trendmicro antivirus, as well as ccleaner, i updated my drivers, i have ie9 and adobe flashhplayer 11.1, i updated everything in windows update, i unplugged the modem for awhile and shut down more often, and opened it up and blew all the dust out. I don't know what else to do. I do have a cisco E2000 wireless router if that's a problem, and both my ps3 and my computer are on the connection, but my computer was working fine with both on the same connection for a year. I go on the http:192.168.1.1 cisco place, and i renewed ip settings, and nothing worked.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI would like to define a general policy for our company to set the log buffer ("logging buffered xxx"). Currently, most of our configs use the default value of 4096, which does not store much of the history. I'd like to see more, when logged onto a router. We are using different router platforms (from old 1700 up to 39xx oder 72xx) Can you give me any hints, how large the buffer can be set on a platform? Which checks should I do to determine, how large I can set the buffer?
Here's an example of a Cisco 1720 router:
Cisco1720#sh mem
Head Total(b) Used(b) Free(b) Lowest(b) Largest(b)
Processor 81AECE9C 17803244 5548816 12254428 12010916 11815908
I/O 2B43000 4968448 1560416 3408032 3374144 3396668
Cisco says: "Total = the total amount of memory available after the system image loads and builds its data structures."So, in this example, the total bytes are 17803244, which is ~ 16.9 Mbyte. So, if I allocate 64000 bytes, my total buffer will decrease to ~16,3 Mbyte.
I my calculation above is correct, I see no problem in defining a standard value of "logging buffered 64000" for every router platform - even under high load conditions. Since 64 kbytes is a very small value compared to the total usable memory of a Cisco 1720, newer platforms should not have any problems either.
I have a 2851 and a 1841 both serving as hub routers in a GRE multipoint configuration. They are both receiving buffer misses and failures on startup. I will post the output of show buffers below:
LAB-HUB-RTR#show buffers
Buffer elements:
607 in free list (500 max allowed)
9071 hits, 0 misses, 618 created
Public buffer pools:
Small buffers, 104 bytes (total 71, permanent 50, peak 71 @ 00:11:33):
68 in free list (20 min, 150 max allowed)
7083 hits, 74 misses, 0 trims, 21 created
55 failures (0 no memory)
[code]....
I have tried increasing the small/medium buffers initial size and permanent size, however there is no change. The buffer failures for small and medium buffers are always around this many every boot.I have also changed the IOS versions between 12.4.24(T4) to 15.1 with no luck in stopping the failures.
We're having some issues with a 3560 CPE. It's uplink is a GE fiber link, customer port is FE RJ45. We see a lot of TX-frames being dropped at the FE port, but none at the GE port. Even when the customer is only at ~50Mbit/s downstream traffic. When customer sending ~50Mbit/s upstream, there are no TX- drops at the GE link. Is this a normal behaviour? From what I know the physical medium shouldn't have any inpact on this since drops occurs in the port- asic, and not in physical transmission.Do the buffer-sizes between GE and FE differ? What could we do to optimize the flow and reduce drops? QoS is set to off and no modifications on the queues have been made on the interfaces.
