Question on two ethernet cables
But I am wondering will my overall connection speed decrease if I have multiple devices on? I am just curious as to if I have both say an xbox 360 and my computer on.
About a week ago i started experiencing very slow download speeds... things like streaming online videos and having to wait which i have not had to do for the last 4 years. I did a speed test on multiple sites and my download speed comes out at about .2mbps and my upload is still where it should be at .6-.8mbps. I have a 12mbps connection so this does not make sense at all. Originally thinking it was malware, I formatted both my hard drives and did a clean install of windows 7 and it did nothing to resolve the issue. Could it be that my wireless card's radio is failing?

Trouble shooting with the Cable provider ended up with connecting directly from the PC to the modem and the speed issue was corrected. I don't see any recent changes in firmware, no new programs.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a WDS connection between two AP541 access points, where one AP is connected to a SA540 with cable. The AP in the other end of the WDS does just act as a repeater, broadcasting using the same SSID and channel with WPA-PSK, as the cabled AP. For the WDS channel, we have tried WPA/WEP/none encryption without any difference. Spanning tree is enabled. 802.11 mode is 'bgn'.
Sitting physically beside the remote AP (the "other" and uncabled end of WDS) with a laptop using Intel 802.11bg adapter, we get a speed in the range 5-7Mbit/sec connecting to the cabled AP (3 of 5 bars signal strength in the traybar icon on Win7). But switching to the remote AP, which is beeing feed by the WDS from the same cabled AP previously being connected to, we do just get a measured bandwidth of 1-2Mbit/sec. I understand that some throughput is lost using WDS, but this does still look like a big decrease?Any experience using WDS with AP541, who can comment on if this is expected or not, and eventually any thing we can do to increase the speed?
I've been having this problem for quite some time, mostly since my mother bought her first Asus Laptop that came with an Asus WL-530g V2 wireless router.Problem is sometimes I get a random disconnect where Local Area Connection is identifying. On some occasions it reconnects on it's own after a few seconds, other times I have to diagnose the problem and I get a "Windows doesn't have a valid IP config" problem but it fixes that.The other problem, and I don't know if the two are related is that very often, for short/long periods of time I get a drastic reduction of internet speed. From what I can tell, it's got to be something to do with the network configuration or the actual router itself, it's very old and Asus stopped making firmware for it in '09. Sometime, i loose the connection to the appliance and i could not connect to the appliance with SSH, i could not start the GUI and the authentication is switched to the secondary instance. As soon as I have traffic, the connection is restored.

They just upgraded their Internet bandwidth to 30 Mb both ways.If we do a speed test in front of the ASA, we get 28 Mb/s upload and download, with a ping of about 5 to 10 ms.If we go behind the ASA, the download is about the same, the upload is decreased to about 12 Mb/s and the ping goes to 260 ms The license is base, there are no additionnal function added to the firewall (no IPS). I've check the speed and duplex and everything is fine.There are no drops on the interfaces or rules of the firewall, no drops on the Interface of the ISP router either. All interfaces are configured at 100Mb full duplex.I saw a couple of discussions on this in the forums, but they don't seem to come up with anything and they look like they end in the middle of the whole story, like once the problem is solved, they don't update their discussion.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 100 Mbps router (which I can't change). But all my computers, media players/streamers, NAS have gigabit Ethernet. Currently, under exclusive use I do approach the 100 Mbps limit (seen a lot of times my laptop transferring files from/to NAS around 14 MBps). But since my devices are capable of handling higher speeds I am thinking to upgrade to a Gigabit switch. That brings me to my question.
If I have 100 MBps router and a Gigabit switch (1k Mac table), what will be max speed between devices connected through the switch?
I am aware anything that goes via the router will hit the roof at 100 Mbps. But will the devices under the switch operate at Gigabit (due to the direct transfer based on mac address)? Or will everything still go through the router who is giving out the IP addresses (the switch having no DHCP) and limit the speed?
I am sutdying at uni and in a few months, I will be moving into a house, with my current flatmates. We will be buying a fibre optic line.Ideally,what I want to do, is split the connections evenly,depending on how many people are online current, rather than having mass downloads of everyone at the same time, when other will only get a small speed while browsing or gaming,or streaming,etc.So, basically, what I want to do is split the connection at anyone time evenly,so if there are 5 people connected and our connection speed is 50MB then each will get 10MB. And if 2 people are connected, then the speed will be 25MB each, and so on.

I am currently connected to my router via a 100 megabit cable (the router port itself is either 100M or 1G, I can't remember). There are no free ports on the router, but I want to connect additional computers to the network. If I get a gigabit switch and connect two of my PCs to it using gigabit cable, can they communicate at gigabit speeds, or will they be limited by the 100M connection back to the router? (In other words, does traffic between two computers on the switch have to be sent through the router, or not?)

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Netgear DG470N gigabit modem and I am streaming 1080P films from a 2TB networked hard drive onto a LG 42inch Smart TV viat wired ethernet. Sometimes the films crash and the TV cannot reopen the network folder with the film in until a reset is done on the modem. Is there a high speed gigabit switch that I can use to improve this or should I get some media controlling software?

We have an old 3508XL switch. We are trying to connect a new 2960 to it but we purchased the incorrect SFP insert and that speed can only do 100mb. We are getting link flaps and we suspect that it's a speed issue between the two. However, I cannot find how to set the speed on the old OS of the 3508 switch.

I had good performance with the E1000, and I only upgraded to the E1200 because it was on sale.My only complaint with the E1200 is the slower download speed on my desktop PC that is connected directly to the router. My normal download speed on the desktop PC was 25 Mbps with the E1000 model. After I disabled the WMM on the E1200 as others suggested, the download speed on the desktop machine immediately increased from 5 Mbps up to 15 Mbps. Any other suggestions to get the download speed up to 25 Mbps before I switch back to my E1000? The E1200 router is connected to my Arris TM602G modem. Both modem and router were reset during the installation process. I setup parental controls for a couple of iPods and configured Open DNS, but other than that, the router is using default settings. All wireless devices in the house seem to be performing fine with the E1200.

I have connect the two laptops in 6509 switch in same module using the same vlan and try to copy the files from one laptop to another and vice versa and got the same speed on 4 to 5 Mbps per second. Switch utilization is not more than 10% and both the laptops are connected in 1 Gbps full duplex.
I have checked by removing the gateway in both laptop but the output is same.
I setup a network to run my business three years ago. It consists of 7 computers, an HP Media Smart server, three Netgear GS 605 v 3, where I connect the computers, router and printers.The server is only used as a file server and runs the backups. However, I also put together an Access database which has a front end on each computer and a back end on the server.Reading data from the database on some machines is terribly slow at times, 30 seconds or more for a response, but other times it is almost as quick as you can type.We are a lot busier now so do I need to upgrade hardware or do I have a problem. For example, my machine is just a Vista machine and writes to server at 60Mbps and reads at 21Mbps, two other Windows 7 machines write at 70Mbps but only read at 3Mbps. If I look at the Status of my Local Area Connection Status, its speed is 100.0 Mbps yet the Netgear states 10/100/1000. I have concluded that I need to change the network cards in the computers, but I don't know if I am correct.

( I know its low, but was more than happy with it as I never use it to transfer large files.But suddenly transfer speed changed to just 8kbps.
