View 1 Repliesrecently I've noticed sharp spikes on both my wireless and wired network connections, It's safe to say it's not a network card problem as all PCs are experiencing this problem. I ran a tracert and these are the results:Tracing route to [URL] [209.123.109.175]over a maximum of 30 hops:

Trace complete. As you can see there is packet loss and a huge spike in ping time.
I'm with Virgin Media and they've been pretty hopeless in resolving my problem. That being I quite often get very high ping from about 200ms-1000ms+. I haven't managed to figure out a pattern to when it happens, and it doesn't seem to matter if there's one person on the internet or 5. Sometimes it's fine, while I'm writing this it's about 25ms, but about 10mins ago it was ranging from 500ms to 1000ms. It doesn't really seem to tie in with download speed either, and I don't have the technological know how to try and fix this on my own.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had 5 techs come to my house and no one seems too know the issue. At a random time in the day my internet will lag for a few seconds for about 5 hours, my ping in games and programs skyrockets, and I can't do anything.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a Netgear WNR1000 to replace a POS belkin router that was acting up.
Pinging Google over wireless from 20 feet gives a response of around 500ms. A wired connection through the router gives the same result. A direct connection however gives a response of 50ms. I ruled out any file transfers or piggybackers on the network. ISP is Time Warner.
Here is my ipconfig Windows IP Configuration Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:
My wireless connection says i have full bars of signal. When I do a speed test, i get 500-600 kb/s download. Which is what I used to get. However, after I re-installed my wireless adapter's card, the wna3100 netgear, it became extremely slow.
Pages would load slow, I could no longer play League of Legends properly because the ping is too high. Also, I used to have crossfire graphics cards running and the internet was fine, but after reinstallation, I thought I'd turn it off because that's how I fixed it before. But now, even with just one graphics card running, the internet is extremely slow.

I have a Belkin N Wireless Router Model: F5D8236-4 v3 with the latest firmware my problem at nights i have high pings around 200 ms especially when playing online games. This is only at nights.I tried connecting my computer directly to the modem and it doesn't cause any trouble so im assuming the router is the problem.I have 3 computers wired connected to the router. I was the only one using the network when i was doing the tests so i don't think the others computers are causing the problem. My computer is running Windows 7 SP1 and the router wireless and my antivirus firewall are off.
View 13 Replies View RelatedSo I am at a bit of a loss here. For the past week or so, I have been getting random spikes of high latency in online games like World of Warcraft/Star Wars: The Old Republic/League of Legends/etc and I have no idea what could be causing it. My ping used to run around 30-80 and lately is has been spiking from 100 to over 700 randomly. I have tried everything I could think of like not using my router, power cycling my modem several times, making sure my drivers are updated, no programs in the background causing it, no firewalls/anti-virus programs causing it, and several other little things like that. I have also called my ISP and they said everything seems to be working fine. And here's another weird thing, according to speedtest.net, my service is running as it should be: [URL]. The server my service is connecting to is in the next town over which is ~15 minutes away so that couldn't be it either.
Here is my system specs:

I recently moved from an old apartment in Downtown Montreal, to a suburb area, but still close to where I was before (10 km). I am using the same ISP provider, Videotron. The same speed. I was playing games perfectly fine before, but now something is really wrong. Whenever I join a server, my ping skyrockets up to close to 200, sometimes drifting to 130 but never going below... and often rising back up again.Keep in mind that I filter servers by their pings. I only join servers that display a low ping (although often I won't see any, when I refresh.. there they are). I'll see a server with 30 ping, join it, and be at 200. I'm mainly trying to play Chivalry Medieval Warfare. It's entirely unplayable. Not only is it impossible to properly time parries anymore, but I also get a lot of rubberbanding. I've tested the internet here, and the speeds are accurate. 10 mbps down, 1 mbps up. I am connected to a Linksys E1200 router. I've tried everything I can possibly think of.I went into the router setup, disabled the firewall, added myself to a DMZ, tried to forward every port for steam (although it didn't seem to recognize it as a program)... rebooted the modem, my computer, the router, tried a different Ethernet cable.. nothing is working. It's very depressing. Nothing has changed on my own computer in the move.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have been having a high ping issue both via a cable and wireless. When i connect via wireless, it is generally 2 ms, sometimes goes up to 4 and 5 and rarely i get packet losses. Via a cable, i get usually 1 ms, and sometimes 2 ms. It generates a problem while online gaming and btw i tried changing channels and it didnt work. I even get same pings when i am 3 meters away from the router compared to less than 1 ms pings.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently got a Netgear WNDR3400 Dual Band Wireless Router. When I first installing it everything seemed to run great, download was about 1.5 Mbps and a good ping, 20-70 for gaming. This lasted about a day. While the download does vary due to the service provider, my ping however has suddenly increased to a constant 200-400. This is happening on my Laptop, X-Box 360, and PS3.I have tested both wired and wireless connections from the router and used both the 2.64Ghz and 5Ghz frequency and I still have the same issue. I have then done a wired connection straight into the modem and my ping returns to the 20-70. My Router is less than 3 ft from all systems. I live in a barracks so there are multiple wireless signals floating about. However no one else seems to have any issues with there ping when using a wireless router and there only 1 room above me. I have changed channels on both frequency's, enabled and disabled NAT Filtering, decreased and increased the MTU size within the WAN settings, reset the router to factory defaults, ensured I have the proper firmware, and proper software for my laptop.
View 8 Replies View Relatedabout 4 weeks ago we started experiencing Packet Loss and High Pings while playing games. This affects our 2 PC's and our PlayStation 3 (Since we use them for gaming). We have contacted our ISP several times regarding the issue but each representative we have talked to has had different ideas of what the problem is. They replaced the modem twice which did nothing, so I then purchased 2 new Router's (DIR 601 N150 & DIR 835 N750+). Neither of them solved the issue. my ISP also says it isn't the Internet Cable that is causing the issue. My Download Speeds and Upload Speeds are right where they should be but the ping and the packet loss is the problem. I also contacted DLINK (Router Manufacturer) to see if they had and all we did was upgrade the firmware version and change the Wireless channels which also did nothing. I have plugged this PC into the modem with an Ethernet Cord and played games and all the issues were gone which leads me to believe that Modem and the ISP aren't the issue.
Things I've Tried:
-Resetting the Modem
-Testing each Wireless Channel on my Router
-Enabling and Disabling 802.11n and 802.11g on the router
-Changing the QoS settings
-Installing Software such as Gamebooster and Advanced System Care
-Disabling all Antivirus programs and Firewalls on the PC's
-Using a friends Modem instead of the Cogeco one

Since buying and using this router about 1 month ago, I've had latency problems. With my Linksys WRT54GL, my latency has always been consistent. However, pinging to google (as a benchmark), my ping is a good 50-70 higher than directly plugging into my router. Directly into my modem I get 10-20ms pings; through the router, I get minimum 60ms up to 100ms spikes. When using the Linksys router, my ping would be 20-30s. I really hope it's just a settings problem. I've turned off QoS and wireless to isolate the connection to just wired, but it still persists. I really hope I can fix this problem, else I am going to buy a different router over the weekend. I can't play FPS games like Bad Company 2 with such high latency.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys WRT110 wireless router for my desktop via a D-link DWA-125 wireless adapter. The OS is Windows 7 64 bit and I mainly go online to play games. This has been a while and every time I play games, which requires stable connection, I will get this lag (the ping goes as high as 600ms for every few seconds then goes back to normal).I tried many ways to troubleshoot and find no solutions. I updated firmware for USB adapter, power cycling the router and reset the router many times.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was having very high ping spikes (up to 2000ms) in my online gaming. I even had high spikes (up to 80ms) just pinging my router. It happened with every computer on the network. After several weeks, I narrowed it down to one thing: Enable DNS Relay. I unticked that, and instantly the spikes went away. However, my brother's Blackberry Playbook has been acting up now that DNS Relay is disabled. Basically, every day, the internet on that thing screeches to a halt, forcing him to reconnect to the network. It's basically a minor inconvenience, but it's one I want to correct. If I turn on DNS Relay again, the ping spikes will return. Interestingly, I switched ISPs during this time. I'm on cable now. I used to be on DSL with a different router, yet I had the exact same problem. The blackberry is probably integral to this problem. So I'd like to know if there's anything I can do to make DNS Relay work properly, allowing his stupid Blackberry to work, while maintaining the integrity of the network.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI decided to change my old Belkin router to a Cisco one, and ever since i've got all sort of problems with internet connection.I'm a gamer, and my brother as well, and with the Belkin router we never got any issue, but now when we try to play together online we get serious Ping problems (We usually play at 80ms, but for a couple of seconds it reaches 800ms.. then it goes back to 80 ms).I have a 20 mb Conection with no P2P restriction, I'm using only Wireless-N connection, with only 20 Mhz and in Ch. 9 (2,452 Ghz).I also use a WPA2-Personal password and QoS System to give more priority to my PC and my games (DotA2 and WoW).This problem only happens when we try to play 2 games at the same time (e.g. DotA2 and WoW, or DotA and DotA, etc). Well i actually think Cisco might be better (Well, I payed extra money for "quality") but then again, with all those problems.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I got 8MB/1MB internet at home and so far I haven't been able to fix the problem I have: if I watch youtube and try to play pretty much any game that uses internet, i go from 70ms ping to 300ms++ instantly. Even if only two computers are on and both have the same game on, just opening a Google Chrome with one youtube tab on causes a HUGE ping. Two computers with youtube and CS 1.6 on shouldn't cause that.My setup is as following: old ZyXel ADSL-modem 660 series with one LAN port and web config (so it has settings to be modify) and a Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT v23. All computers I use run either 32-bit Windows 7, Vista or XP. However, it doesn't matter which computers I use; I've tried this with more than 5 computers already. All cables have also been tested and changed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought new Lenovo IdeaCentre H430 pc and I'm having problem with high pings. Windows 7 with on-board realtek NIC. Fresh install, fully updated, drivers installed from included CD. When I start pinging router (direct 1Gb ethernet connection, 1 hop), pings start at <1ms (which is fine) and after a while they jump to 300-1000ms.
I loaded up live ubuntu to test if the problem might be in HW. It's not, in ubuntu pings were always <1ms.I also noticed that when I start using connection somehow, pings go down to 1ms, but go back up when I stop using it (tested by accessing live camera feed on LAN).
Power Options set to max performance. I disabled Interrupt Moderation on the NIC, didn't work.I tested it in the safe mode with networking, same problem there.
It slows down our client-server based programs, what's causing it. All I could google up was that disabling Interrupt Moderation would work, it didn't though.Computer is giving high pings to router when idle and normal pings when network is under load, it slows down our software significantly.
I purchased the AE3000 Wireless Adapter for my PC, and has been working fine until now. When I first start my PC, my ping starts anywhere between 20-80, then after I try to access anything on the internet it shoots up between 600-1200. It just started happening about 3 days ago, but now it has gotten worse. I can't play any online games, and websites are slow to load.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago i started experiencing very slow download speeds... things like streaming online videos and having to wait which i have not had to do for the last 4 years. I did a speed test on multiple sites and my download speed comes out at about .2mbps and my upload is still where it should be at .6-.8mbps. I have a 12mbps connection so this does not make sense at all. Originally thinking it was malware, I formatted both my hard drives and did a clean install of windows 7 and it did nothing to resolve the issue. Could it be that my wireless card's radio is failing?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a WDS connection between two AP541 access points, where one AP is connected to a SA540 with cable. The AP in the other end of the WDS does just act as a repeater, broadcasting using the same SSID and channel with WPA-PSK, as the cabled AP. For the WDS channel, we have tried WPA/WEP/none encryption without any difference. Spanning tree is enabled. 802.11 mode is 'bgn'.
Sitting physically beside the remote AP (the "other" and uncabled end of WDS) with a laptop using Intel 802.11bg adapter, we get a speed in the range 5-7Mbit/sec connecting to the cabled AP (3 of 5 bars signal strength in the traybar icon on Win7). But switching to the remote AP, which is beeing feed by the WDS from the same cabled AP previously being connected to, we do just get a measured bandwidth of 1-2Mbit/sec. I understand that some throughput is lost using WDS, but this does still look like a big decrease?Any experience using WDS with AP541, who can comment on if this is expected or not, and eventually any thing we can do to increase the speed?
They have an ASA-5510 with version 8.2(5). They just upgraded their Internet bandwidth to 30 Mb both ways.If we do a speed test in front of the ASA, we get 28 Mb/s upload and download, with a ping of about 5 to 10 ms.If we go behind the ASA, the download is about the same, the upload is decreased to about 12 Mb/s and the ping goes to 260 ms The license is base, there are no additionnal function added to the firewall (no IPS). I've check the speed and duplex and everything is fine. There are no drops on the interfaces or rules of the firewall, no drops on the Interface of the ISP router either. All interfaces are configured at 100Mb full duplex.I saw a couple of discussions on this in the forums, but they don't seem to come up with anything and they look like they end in the middle of the whole story, like once the problem is solved, they don't update their discussion.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been having this problem for quite some time, mostly since my mother bought her first Asus Laptop that came with an Asus WL-530g V2 wireless router.Problem is sometimes I get a random disconnect where Local Area Connection is identifying. On some occasions it reconnects on it's own after a few seconds, other times I have to diagnose the problem and I get a "Windows doesn't have a valid IP config" problem but it fixes that. The other problem, and I don't know if the two are related is that very often, for short/long periods of time I get a drastic reduction of internet speed. From what I can tell, it's got to be something to do with the network configuration or the actual router itself, it's very old and Asus stopped making firmware for it in '09. Useful data Basically I have a wired connection from my desktop to the wireless router.

Today I've received reports of slow internet access/activity and have noticed myself that it seems a bit slow today. On the dashboard of our asa 5510 the "outside interface" traffic usage is running constantly high. It's at the top of the graph. How can I tell what is causing the spike in utilization. It usually runs at about 1500-2000 Kbps, and now it's up over 10,000.
