High Router Ping And Random Disconnects?

Jan 25, 2013

I have been having a high ping issue both via a cable and wireless. When i connect via wireless, it is generally 2 ms, sometimes goes up to 4 and 5 and rarely i get packet losses. Via a cable, i get usually 1 ms, and sometimes 2 ms. It generates a problem while online gaming and btw i tried changing channels and it didnt work. I even get same pings when i am 3 meters away from the router compared to less than 1 ms pings.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Random Disconnects With WRT110?

I see that many people have the same problem, random disconnects. I am a long term sufferer from this. I have called support before they can't fix it. and being knowledgeable with routers has not worked at all. I turned off every wireless device in the house, even the microwave it still happens. I change the channel countless times it still happens.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3200 Some Random Disconnects On Devices Using 2.4GHz Frequency

Jul 24, 2011

I just recently (4 days ago) purchased an E3200 router.  I noticed some random disconnects on my devices using the 2.4GHz frequency.I installed inSSIDer from MetaGeek to see what was going on and noticed some strange behavior where the Amplitude on the 2.4GHz randomly drops dramatically.  Sometimes its once every 10 minutes, other times it happens 5 times in one minute.  I can't figure out what is the cause.  The 5GHz signal is steady as a rock.

What I tried so far:  Set the Channel to the least crowded channel instead of auto, upgraded the firmware, restarted the router all to no avail.  This is annoying to say the least.  It doesn't affect anything unless you are playing video games or running a remote desktop session, where a single disconnect is disastrous. I just upgraded from an old linksys wrt54g, tried a netgear n600 which was terrible, then swapped it out for the Cisco E3200..

Random Disconnects Every 2 To 30 Minutes?

Aug 12, 2012

Recently I've been experiencing random disconnects.

My setup is a Actiontec Q1000 with (QAQ002-31.20L.4) modem/router that talks to qwest. Then I connect to a linksys router WRT54G2. I connect directly to the linksys router with an ethernet cable, but my family connects to it wirelessly.

I ran a constant ping to my modem and to google, and on the random disconnect, the Actiontec Q1000 gets a huge 4000ms response time (but then it resumes normally), and I get ping timeouts to google. Windows 7 will say "no internet connection available". Not sure if it makes a difference, but I had google timeout 4 times during my constant pings.

Nobody else is connected when it does this random disconnects, so I'm not sure what's causing it. I've tried a lot of things, from changing and flushing my dns, connecting directly to the modem, turning off QoS/firewall settings, but nothing seems to work.

Centurylink Random Disconnects?

Nov 2, 2012

I just moved to a new rural city and Centurylink DSL is the only option for internet. I just had it installed on Monday and have had problems immediately. The two main problems are this:1) My computer is connected wirelessly but cannot seem to connect my mobile devices. My phone and my Google Nexus both try to obtain IP address and then immediately disconnect and try to reconnect over and over. Strangely my Kindle Fire didn't seem to have a problem.) I've found that when I am playing a game (Team Fortress 2 and World of Warcraft) and sometimes even watching a video on youtube, I will lose connection and get booted from my game or have to restart the video. The lights on the modem don't change and the modem itself does not disconnect or reboot. I seem to have internet service immediately after, but I get a hiccup probably once every 10 minutes that makes games unplayable

Internet Random Disconnects After Reformatted

Mar 2, 2013

recently upgraded most of my computer parts and reformatted from windows 7 enterprise 32bit to win7 enterprise 64bit. (all of this happened in a computer store) I never had internet problems before the reformat, however it has happened to me before when I had previous, newly reformats on my pc which usually goes away after 2-3 months. here is the problem, the internet is fine when I start using it and after an hour or two it will disconnect and when I troubleshoot it, it will just say "DNS server isn't responding" and what I do is turn the modem off and turn it back on and the internet will come back after 10-20 seconds. so basically my internet is fine and will just go down then to fix it I just have to turn the router off and on.

Wired PC Randomly Disconnects From Network At Random Intervals?

Feb 11, 2013

Wired PC randomly disconnects from network at random intervals each dayoday it has done so 3 times. The only way I have found to get it working again is to reset the router which can be inconvenient. When it disconnects all wireless devices continue to work and I have no issues like this with my wired consolesI switched to using a static IP address, since having an automatic one gave me the same results [i have since switched back to automatic]Be happy for any suggestions on how to sort this. I am using W7 OS and I'm using an Orange router. I don't know if its relevant, but when I go to reset my router I have noticed that the download light on my router is flashing like crazy when my PC has disconnected.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 7609-S Random High Cpu Spike With LMS?

Im getting above 95% cpu spike for 10 mins in every 2hrs of interval, after it has been integrated with Ciscoworks LMS version 3.2.1 and added this to HUM. In LMS the HUM polling has been configured for every 1hr to monitor the cpu and memory utilization.

I have gone through the below cisco document and I have configured all of the snmp-server view commands as illustrated in the below website.[URL] After configuring the same, now we are observing the cpu spike every 4 hrs or i would say 5 hrs... I have checked all the settings of ciscoworks LMS and there is absolutely no other jobs are running in the day time... The spike comes every 4 hrs.

Cisco Wireless :: 5100 / 6200 - Intel Chipset Clients Random Citrix Disconnects

Apr 24, 2012

Currently using intel 5100 & 6200 client cards on multiple driver versions. WiSM is 7.0.116. APs are 1250 and 1260 series. Citrix is setup to send server-side keepalives for session reliability. Randomly, several times a day the client will get disconnected from the Citrix application session but maintain connectivity to the AP and other applications continue to work. Traces show the server-side keepalive reach the controller but are delayed from controller to client by 5-6 seconds. Just enough time for the Citrix server to timeout and tear down to session. Additional testing shows the delay most likely occurs somewhere from controller to AP. It occurs on multiple controllers on multiple campuses.

We have Dell/Broadcom clients that don't experience the problem. The only commonality seems to be the Intel cards. CCX? I know Intel has a special relationship with Cisco regarding CCX and have developed features not available on other cards. Tried disabling power save and other CCX features but hasn't solved the issue.

Netgear WNDR3400 Wireless Router Causes High Ping?

Jan 23, 2011

I recently got a Netgear WNDR3400 Dual Band Wireless Router. When I first installing it everything seemed to run great, download was about 1.5 Mbps and a good ping, 20-70 for gaming. This lasted about a day. While the download does vary due to the service provider, my ping however has suddenly increased to a constant 200-400. This is happening on my Laptop, X-Box 360, and PS3.I have tested both wired and wireless connections from the router and used both the 2.64Ghz and 5Ghz frequency and I still have the same issue. I have then done a wired connection straight into the modem and my ping returns to the 20-70. My Router is less than 3 ft from all systems. I live in a barracks so there are multiple wireless signals floating about. However no one else seems to have any issues with there ping when using a wireless router and there only 1 room above me. I have changed channels on both frequency's, enabled and disabled NAT Filtering, decreased and increased the MTU size within the WAN settings, reset the router to factory defaults, ensured I have the proper firmware, and proper software for my laptop.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2100L Having High Spikes Of Ping

I decided to change my old Belkin router to a Cisco one, and ever since i've got all sort of problems with internet connection.I'm a gamer, and my brother as well, and with the Belkin router we never got any issue, but now when we try to play together online we get serious Ping problems (We usually play at 80ms, but for a couple of seconds it reaches 800ms.. then it goes back to 80 ms).I have a 20 mb Conection with no P2P restriction, I'm using only Wireless-N connection, with only 20 Mhz and in Ch. 9 (2,452 Ghz).I also use a WPA2-Personal password and QoS System to give more priority to my PC and my games (DotA2 and WoW).This problem only happens when we try to play 2 games at the same time (e.g. DotA2 and WoW, or DotA and DotA, etc).  Well i actually think Cisco might be better (Well, I payed extra money for "quality") but then again, with all those problems.

Linksys Wireless Router :: High Ping And Latency Using E1200 Router

Nov 3, 2012

I recently moved from an old apartment in Downtown Montreal, to a suburb area, but still close to where I was before (10 km). I am using the same ISP provider, Videotron. The same speed. I was playing this game, Chivalry Medieval warfare, perfectly fine before, but now something is really wrong. Whenever I join a server, my ping skyrockets up to close to 200, sometimes drifting to 130 but never going below... and often rising back up again.Keep in mind that I filter servers by their pings. I only join servers that display a low ping (although often I won't see any, when I refresh.. there they are). I'll see a server with 30 ping, join it, and be at 200.It's entirely unplayable. Not only is it impossible to properly time parries anymore, but I also get a lot of rubberbanding. I've tested the internet here, and the speeds are accurate. 10 mbps down, 1 mbps up. I am connected to a Linksys E1200 router. I've tried everything I can possibly think of.I went into the router setup, disabled the firewall, added myself to a DMZ, tried to forward every port... rebooted the modem, my computer, the router, tried a different Ethernet cable.. nothing is working. It's very depressing. Nothing has changed on my own computer in the move. I also notice there is a delay of a second or so before I start to load a webpage when I click a link.

Dell XPS 720 H2C Internet Disconnects At High Speeds

Feb 11, 2013

Ok, so my internet disconnects while downloading at high speeds, anything higher than 2mbs. I end up having to reboot my computer because my modem looks fine and even if I reboot it, it does not fix the problem. Repairing the connection does not work either.I have a Dell XPS 720 H2C. The computer came out in 2007, costed like 6 grand lol. I'm happy with it aside form this problem though. It sucks cause they quickly stopped making the computer so tech support on it is tough to come by. I have Cox Communications and when I run speedtest.net I get 140/30. I'm hoping they aren't disconnecting people that reach a certain download speed.Anyway I'm fairly positive it is an issue with my computer or Windows Vista. I know I should upgrade to Windows 7 and I just might if it turns out to be the culprit. I just don't want to do that unless I absolutely have to. So ya, first off when using utorrent my internet will crash if I have a lot of different torrents open and downloading at the same time. It will also crash if I have one torrent active and that torrent goes above 2-2.5 mbs download speed. Also when downloading from a fast filelocker my internet will crash. The only filelocker that will crash my internet without me browsing at the same time is a filelocker called Gamerfront. The speeds are around 2mbs. I will also crash sometimes though if I'm downloading and browsing at the same time. My downloading speeds could be well below 2mbs but if I am watching youtube, streaming, or just browsing the internet sometimes the internet will crash.

That is the main problem, but sometimes, rarely I'll disconnect just from watching a youtube video. That's happened maybe 3 or 4 times. Anyway that is the summary of my issue. Again only a computer reboot will fix my connection. When I get disconnected the modem does not change at all and is still working perfectly. The modem is relatively brand new as well. I haven't tried much to fix it because I just have no idea what I could do. Device manager looks fine, no exclamation points. I know when most people have this problem it's because of a router or it's the modem but I don't use a router and my modem seems to be totally fine. [code]

Cox Cable High Speed Internet / Frequent Disconnects?

Mar 27, 2012

The modem checked out and was all good, the splitters are brand new and the line is apparently fine. This left the router as the issue. We had a Netgear router and attempted to replace it with a Linksys router. The firmware on both routers have been tested both old and new firmware. This happens to all computers/laptops connect to the network I do not receive a message stating that I was disconnected from the network, the internet simple cuts out for a little while and then comes back in.Cox says that they are 100% certain it is not on their end, nor is it the modem. The disconnects occur at random (there is no specific intervals). They last anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes.

Huge Latency / Ping Spikes At Random Times With No Apparent Cause

Jun 20, 2012

Since about 3 weeks ago my DSL has been getting totally random ping spikes, from under 40 to over 1500MS for minutes to hours on end. Nobody else is using my internet, I've verified this. There is nothing sucking up bandwidth on any connected device or computer, as far as I can tell through troubleshooting to the best of my ability. I tried switching to a Cisco X2000 modem/router combo and it did nothing, still totally random latency. Also, when I called AT&T about this, they didn't even know what ping was. They ran an upload/download speed test (which is still mostly consistent regardless of latency) and told me I was basically making the issue up.

Home Network :: Random Network Drops / Disconnects Services?

Apr 15, 2011

I've been having some issues with my network connectivity for a while now, and I haven't been able to figure out what the problem is. I run a wired connection to an Ethernet port in the wall of my university dorm. I have verified that it is not a global network issue or an ISP issue; this problem only happens on my PC.My network connection drops/disconnects randomly throughout the day. When I say disconnect/drop, I mean that all attempts to ping or access the internet fail. A few minutes pass before the Network and Sharing center task tray icon shows a warning sign saying that my computer could not connect to the internet. This is temporarily fixed by doing an ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew, but I have to execute these two commands about 2-3 times a day on average.

There is no exact interval between the disconnects, nor does it happen when I am running particular programs. The disconnect happens regardless of what I am doing at the moment (gaming, browsing the internet, leaving the computer idle).A month back, I installed some Windows Updates and suddenly my internet connection was almost completely broken. I was experiencing the same issue, but much more frequently. My internet would die within 10 seconds of executing any download, but Windows wouldn't recognize that something was wrong. At first I thought the ZoneAlarm, Avast!, or the SafeConnect (as required by my university) services were causing trouble but uninstalling/disabling these services did not fix the problem.I also tried reverting to my default ethernet drivers, which did nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled multiple versions of my drivers to no avail. However, the internet worked just fine in Safe Mode with Networking, so I cross-referenced the processes/services running in Safe Mode w/ Networking against my normal startup, guessing something else was at play. After some poking around, I discovered that disabling the Server and Browser services permanently fixed the issue of instant connection death. But the initial problem I described still remains;random, less frequent internet connection drops.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Random Internet Disconnects From Internet

Feb 18, 2012

I am experiencing random disconnects from the internet -- they have been occurring about 1-3 times per day, although I've just had four in the last 20 minutes.

ISP: Wow! Cable - 15/1Mbps
Modem: Motorola SB6121 (new)
Router: D-Link DIR-655 (new) Firmware 2.00NA

When the internet disconnects:
- Both the LAN & the WAN are affected, but I do not lose any wireless connectivity with the router itself.
- I am able to log into the router wirelessly but cannot access the modem.
- If I plug my laptop directly into the modem, I can connect to the internet.
- When I reboot (using the on/off switch on the surge protector), everything comes back up.

There are a couple of other wireless routers nearby with fairly strong signals, but they appear to be running on different channels.

My phones are DECT 6.0, so there shouldn't be any interference problems with those.

I've been poking around this forum, and have already made some setting changes that seem to be consistently recommended:
- Ensured DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual
- Turned off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
- Turned off Advanced DNS Services
- Turned on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
- Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
- Ensured devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
- Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.
- Using mixed G and N signal mode
- My security setting is WPA-Personal. WPA2-PSK

High Latency / Ping In Online Games

Jan 4, 2012

So I am at a bit of a loss here. For the past week or so, I have been getting random spikes of high latency in online games like World of Warcraft/Star Wars: The Old Republic/League of Legends/etc and I have no idea what could be causing it. My ping used to run around 30-80 and lately is has been spiking from 100 to over 700 randomly. I have tried everything I could think of like not using my router, power cycling my modem several times, making sure my drivers are updated, no programs in the background causing it, no firewalls/anti-virus programs causing it, and several other little things like that. I have also called my ISP and they said everything seems to be working fine. And here's another weird thing, according to speedtest.net, my service is running as it should be: [URL]. The server my service is connecting to is in the next town over which is ~15 minutes away so that couldn't be it either.

High Ping And Packet Loss During Online Games?

Jan 24, 2013

about 4 weeks ago we started experiencing Packet Loss and High Pings while playing games. This affects our 2 PC's and our PlayStation 3 (Since we use them for gaming). We have contacted our ISP several times regarding the issue but each representative we have talked to has had different ideas of what the problem is. They replaced the modem twice which did nothing, so I then purchased 2 new Router's (DIR 601 N150 & DIR 835 N750+). Neither of them solved the issue. my ISP also says it isn't the Internet Cable that is causing the issue. My Download Speeds and Upload Speeds are right where they should be but the ping and the packet loss is the problem. I also contacted DLINK (Router Manufacturer) to see if they had and all we did was upgrade the firmware version and change the Wireless channels which also did nothing. I have plugged this PC into the modem with an Ethernet Cord and played games and all the issues were gone which leads me to believe that Modem and the ISP aren't the issue.

Things I've Tried:

-Resetting the Modem
-Testing each Wireless Channel on my Router
-Enabling and Disabling 802.11n and 802.11g on the router
-Changing the QoS settings
-Installing Software such as Gamebooster and Advanced System Care
-Disabling all Antivirus programs and Firewalls on the PC's
-Using a friends Modem instead of the Cogeco one

D-Link DIR-655 :: WRT54GL High Ping Over Wired Connection

Oct 18, 2011

Since buying and using this router about 1 month ago, I've had latency problems. With my Linksys WRT54GL, my latency has always been consistent. However, pinging to google (as a benchmark), my ping is a good 50-70 higher than directly plugging into my router. Directly into my modem I get 10-20ms pings; through the router, I get minimum 60ms up to 100ms spikes. When using the Linksys router, my ping would be 20-30s. I really hope it's just a settings problem. I've turned off QoS and wireless to isolate the connection to just wired, but it still persists. I really hope I can fix this problem, else I am going to buy a different router over the weekend. I can't play FPS games like Bad Company 2 with such high latency.
