Random Disconnects Every 2 To 30 Minutes?
Aug 12, 2012
Recently I've been experiencing random disconnects.
My setup is a Actiontec Q1000 with (QAQ002-31.20L.4) modem/router that talks to qwest. Then I connect to a linksys router WRT54G2. I connect directly to the linksys router with an ethernet cable, but my family connects to it wirelessly.
I ran a constant ping to my modem and to google, and on the random disconnect, the Actiontec Q1000 gets a huge 4000ms response time (but then it resumes normally), and I get ping timeouts to google. Windows 7 will say "no internet connection available". Not sure if it makes a difference, but I had google timeout 4 times during my constant pings.
Nobody else is connected when it does this random disconnects, so I'm not sure what's causing it. I've tried a lot of things, from changing and flushing my dns, connecting directly to the modem, turning off QoS/firewall settings, but nothing seems to work.

Just today i've started having problems with my Wireless Network. Other adapters in my area are causing me to get random disconnects every few minutes.I've tried changing the channel on my router several times, but to no avail. Is there anything else worth trying?

I just moved to a new rural city and Centurylink DSL is the only option for internet. I just had it installed on Monday and have had problems immediately. The two main problems are this:1) My computer is connected wirelessly but cannot seem to connect my mobile devices. My phone and my Google Nexus both try to obtain IP address and then immediately disconnect and try to reconnect over and over. Strangely my Kindle Fire didn't seem to have a problem.) I've found that when I am playing a game (Team Fortress 2 and World of Warcraft) and sometimes even watching a video on youtube, I will lose connection and get booted from my game or have to restart the video. The lights on the modem don't change and the modem itself does not disconnect or reboot. I seem to have internet service immediately after, but I get a hiccup probably once every 10 minutes that makes games unplayable

recently upgraded most of my computer parts and reformatted from windows 7 enterprise 32bit to win7 enterprise 64bit. (all of this happened in a computer store) I never had internet problems before the reformat, however it has happened to me before when I had previous, newly reformats on my pc which usually goes away after 2-3 months. here is the problem, the internet is fine when I start using it and after an hour or two it will disconnect and when I troubleshoot it, it will just say "DNS server isn't responding" and what I do is turn the modem off and turn it back on and the internet will come back after 10-20 seconds. so basically my internet is fine and will just go down then to fix it I just have to turn the router off and on.

I have been having a high ping issue both via a cable and wireless. When i connect via wireless, it is generally 2 ms, sometimes goes up to 4 and 5 and rarely i get packet losses. Via a cable, i get usually 1 ms, and sometimes 2 ms. It generates a problem while online gaming and btw i tried changing channels and it didnt work. I even get same pings when i am 3 meters away from the router compared to less than 1 ms pings.

Wired PC randomly disconnects from network at random intervals each dayoday it has done so 3 times. The only way I have found to get it working again is to reset the router which can be inconvenient. When it disconnects all wireless devices continue to work and I have no issues like this with my wired consolesI switched to using a static IP address, since having an automatic one gave me the same results [i have since switched back to automatic]Be happy for any suggestions on how to sort this. I am using W7 OS and I'm using an Orange router. I don't know if its relevant, but when I go to reset my router I have noticed that the download light on my router is flashing like crazy when my PC has disconnected.

I see that many people have the same problem, random disconnects. I am a long term sufferer from this. I have called support before they can't fix it. and being knowledgeable with routers has not worked at all. I turned off every wireless device in the house, even the microwave it still happens. I change the channel countless times it still happens.

I've been having this problem for a while now but something is coming up for which i require 24/7 internet connection with NO failures. problem: about 2 to 3 times a day i lose internet connection for about 1 to 2 minutes and after that everything is totally fine again. There are 5 lights on my modem in this order from top to bottom:
Internet: This light blinks green when im using it like downloading or playing something online. It stays green when i have internet but im not sending or recieving any data.
DSL: always green.
Wireless: I use wireless connection. its always blinking orange (i dont know why orange but it works fine)
Ethernet: This light is always off cause i dont use cables.
Power: always green.
What happens is that my DSL light which is supposed to be green. starts blinking. Then after 30 seconds or so it stops and just turns green again but my Internet light turns red. It stays red for about 1 to 2 minutes and then it turns green again and works fine again. Called the company many times but they dont detect anything because when we call, its always working fine. so all they tell me to do is reset the modem which does nothing. I never had this problem at my previous house 2 years ago. it just started at this address so it makes me think it is the line and not a computer/modem problem.

So lately I've been having this problem where my internet decides to stop working for about 5 seconds every half an hour or so which gets kind of annoying if i'm in the middle of an online game or anything else that requires an uninterrupted connection. When it occurs none of the lights on the modem change and all of the other computers connected to it do not disconnect, only my computer is disconnecting.
So far I have tried changing the ethernet cord, switching ports on the modem, updating all of my drivers, and going into the device manager to disable the cut power to device option on my ethernet card. but none of these seem to alleviate the problem.

My net connection is disconnecting every 30-45mins and this has been going on now for the past three weeks since I built my new PC.Here's what I've done to try to rectify this:
* Uninstalled/reinstalled Windows 7 (64-bit)
* Called ISP (AOL), whose first and second-line tech support ran tests and couldn't find any problems with the line.
* Changed the router (from a D-Link DSL2640-R to a Huawei EchoLife HG521 - both provided by ISP).
* Replaced the Ethernet cable that connects the router to my PC.
* Replaced the Rj11 cable that connects my router to the DSL filter.
* Replaced both DSL filters in my house (I have two phones at seperate locations in my house).
* Removed the bell wire from my telephone sockets. Whilst this didn't fix the disconection problem, it has increased my download speed from 130kbps to over 300kbps.
* Uninstalled the ethernet network adapter and then installed the most up-to-date network adapter driver available.
* Tried a couple of programs to optimize both my network and my PC to no avail.
* Changed my Anti-virus software from AVG to Avast, but again, there's no fix. [code]

I can give is that every 5-10mins my internet cuts out for about 5 seconds, just long enough to kick me out of a game if I'm playing one.. so it's beyond frustrating. I use a toshiba laptop and it was recently reformatted. These stupid dcs used to happen before the reformat.. they'd happen one week then stop the next. after the reformat which was done (hopefully professionally) by geeksquad, infact they gave me a new hard drive too cause my old one heated up real fast, I was fine for a few months and now like a sickness it has strucken me again. So far it's been a week of nonstop disconnects every 5-10mins... it actually did stop for about 12hours today but I rebooted and then it started again.. so there IS a way to fix it, I just don't know what I did.I am 100% certain it's not my wireless connection, the same thing happens with an ethernet cord. the ipconfig flushdns stuff, and the netsh winsock reset stuff. also of course i've done various virus scans i'm fairly certain that's not the issue.

I'm having a problem with my wireless internet connection. Just recently my roommates and I got cable internet and a wireless router for the house. Since connecting to the wireless router, it keeps on disconnecting me and then reconnecting once every 2 minutes about. The disconnection last for only 10 seconds but is very annoying and disrupts everything I'm doing on the internet. What is going on and how can I fix it?

In one setup, we have fibre optic connection given by the ISP upto Distribution box inside the house where the fibre optic cable is connected to HUAWEI-ECHOLFIE HG865 terminal .From the RJ 45 port in that device , the ethernet cable goes to the DLINK 8 port switch. All the 8 ports are connected with ethernet cables to 8 rooms going concealed through the wall.
Our ISP person tested the connection by connecting one patch cable (from the DLINK SWITCH via the wall socket)to the WAN port of LINKSYS WRT300N wireless router and connecting other ethernet cable from the lan port of the router to the laptop ,setup the username ,password, encapsulation pppoe and configured the internet .found working. I tried to configure the wireless in the house by fixing LINKSYS access point in some rooms.
Here the problem started. I cannot fix the LINKSYS router inside the DB in front portion of the house since there is no space in that and cannot keep the linksys router outside also, So I kept the linksys router inside one room and tried by connecting cable from the wall socket to a 5 ports mini switch and from the mini switch I connected one cable to WAN PORT of the linksys router and one cable to linksys's lan port because I want to share the internet in all the rooms.

Every 25 minutes, sometimes sooner, sometimes later but usually on the dot I get limited access and the router interface becomes inaccessible for about 1-3 minutes. My problem is my room mate has left for the week and the router is locked in there. I am unable to connect hardwired or power cycle the router. I have the password for the connect and I just got the PW for the router interface. I also have remote capabilities. I have been trying many things to stop it from being so slow and unstable but basically even though my signal reception is 4-5 bars I am only averaging 11mbps speed. I am using a b/g alfa 1w adapter but this shouldn't be the cause of the slower speeds. I can only achieve 1-3mbps down on speedtest.net whereas before I was getting 6-12mbps down.
-UPnP Off.
-NAT Firewall Open.
-300mbps Max
-Channel 1 no other channels within 5 channels near it.
-WPA2-PSK [AES]
-Default MAC Address
-Automatic Configuring of all IP Addresses
-MTU 1500
-WMM On.
Being limited by lack of power cycle and hardwired connect makes it a little harder. I know it's fixable without that though. Also there is no point of a hardwired connect unless I am upgrading the firmware (it already has the newest firmware by default) because I know it should work fine like that. I have tested connecting to other networks and I do not d/c on them. My own research has shown that setting a static IP resolves the issue. I am unfamiliar with exactly how to set this up for the router and the client and if it involves dealing with the ISP (Comcast)

I check all of the settings and changed the channel to see if it works. For some reason it disconnects my wireless internet at random times and i know before it never use to do that before with a older router. There is nothing blocking it, it worked before, and my computers can connect except two. The only thing i can guess is my wireless card.

Yesterday I bought a new wireless adapter (Belkin Surf Micro, it was the only one for sale nearby). I installed it from the disk, and it worked for around a minute, then... nothing. This kept happening every time with several reboots and reinstalls inbetween.I thought maybe the adapter was faulty, so I installed it on my Mums laptop. It worked great.I have tried flushing the dns, and some other command prompt based things suggested on other sites, but to no avail. But here's the thing that strikes me as funny: Even when it connects to the internet for that minute or so I cannot ping the router, even though it says on the router page (viewed from another computer) that I am definately connected to it. I also cannot ping google or anything but myself.

So I recently moved a little bit away from where I was. My new area only has one internet provider available called "Hot Spot". We got the 10 down 5 up plan and I get what I paid for in that respect. My issue is that it won't even stay up for longer then 20 minutes. At first I was using the Netgear N750 WNDR4000 router, but I switched over to my ASUS RT-N56U router thinking it might fix the problem. Same thing happening with this ASUS, but when it goes out and I try to load a web page I get the error "you have set the wrong dynamic or static IP address for your RT-N56U." The router setting is set on automatic IP so I'm not sure if that's the problem. I called the ISP and told them I have Dish for TV and they said that is most likely the problem as it can often conflict with the IP or something like that. So I called Dish and they sent me this "Hopper Internet Connector" which supposedly fixes this issue because it directly connects it to the router instead of wirelessly. That still didn't fix the problem. I have tried turning wireless off completely and it still happens. I have reset the router to factory settings probably 4 times. I really don't know what else to do..

I got a brand new Vizio Ultrabook CT14-A4 running Windows 8 64bit. The problem is that the wireless will disconnect every 10-15minutes for about 30 seconds and then reconnect. It will show full bars but say No internet access or Limited. If I try to reconnect it will say that it is unable to connect to this network. I updated Windows to the fullest and updated all my drivers including the one for Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222 Wireless Network adapter. Nothing changed. It does this on every wifi I connect to. Including home, school, other people's houses, etc. My other computer running Windows Vista works just fine with all of these wifi networks. It only disconnects for 30 seconds to a minute, but it is irritating because it will interrupt my downloads, and time me out of any sensitive websites I was on like the bank or the University self-service website.

Did anyone use EA4500 with L2TP connection? I really don't know what to do. I bought this router because I wanted to setup my home network with really high quality up-todate and efficient router. Previously I used Dlink DIR685. Everything was OK but lately my ISP increased internet speed up to 40 megabit per second and Dlink can’t establish connection at a speed higher than 20 mbit/sec. So I bought the best router – I thought so. Router appeared to be rather powerful – the connection was established at a speed ~ 34 mbit/sec, wifi broadcast occurred to be also of high speed and long range. But the main and terrible problem is that the longest internet session for the last 10 days was about 30 minutes. And that is with "keep alive" setting activated. That is awful! My Dyn DNS service doesn’t have even enough time to update my new IP in its DNS base. Of course that is way I can’t get external access to my ftp most of the time. I believe that its firmware ver.2.0.37 is very raw. And there is no any firmware on Linksys site so I can’t neither reinstall firmware 2.0.37 nor downgrade to 2.0.36. Hope this bug will be corrected soon. May be that is defect of this specific router?

I just recently (4 days ago) purchased an E3200 router. I noticed some random disconnects on my devices using the 2.4GHz frequency.I installed inSSIDer from MetaGeek to see what was going on and noticed some strange behavior where the Amplitude on the 2.4GHz randomly drops dramatically. Sometimes its once every 10 minutes, other times it happens 5 times in one minute. I can't figure out what is the cause. The 5GHz signal is steady as a rock.
What I tried so far: Set the Channel to the least crowded channel instead of auto, upgraded the firmware, restarted the router all to no avail. This is annoying to say the least. It doesn't affect anything unless you are playing video games or running a remote desktop session, where a single disconnect is disastrous. I just upgraded from an old linksys wrt54g, tried a netgear n600 which was terrible, then swapped it out for the Cisco E3200..

My new EA 2700 disconnects from the internet if the desktop is idle for more than 30 minutes. needs to be unplugged for a few minutes then it will reconnect. This is an unacceptable situation and this thing will be tossed if it cannot be fixed. Can this be reset so it won't disconnect? or do I need to replace it with a product from another company?

Currently using intel 5100 & 6200 client cards on multiple driver versions. WiSM is 7.0.116. APs are 1250 and 1260 series. Citrix is setup to send server-side keepalives for session reliability. Randomly, several times a day the client will get disconnected from the Citrix application session but maintain connectivity to the AP and other applications continue to work. Traces show the server-side keepalive reach the controller but are delayed from controller to client by 5-6 seconds. Just enough time for the Citrix server to timeout and tear down to session. Additional testing shows the delay most likely occurs somewhere from controller to AP. It occurs on multiple controllers on multiple campuses.
We have Dell/Broadcom clients that don't experience the problem. The only commonality seems to be the Intel cards. CCX? I know Intel has a special relationship with Cisco regarding CCX and have developed features not available on other cards. Tried disabling power save and other CCX features but hasn't solved the issue.

I have a strange situation on my guest wireless LAN.The guest WLAN is configured as an SSID "GUEST" on Cisco 1142 lightweight APs, with WiSM controller and WLC software version 7.0.230.0.
For simple Internet access using this SSID, we have a web policy, which causes a web page to be displayed when the user opens his/her browser, and on this web page, the user must click on an "Accept" button in order to accept the terms and conditions of use. Once the user accepts, the browser will then go to the web site which the user wishes to open. When using this mode of access, everything is fine.
However, there is also a pre-authentication ACL, which allows certain types of VPN traffic to reach the Internet without the user being required to accept terms and conditions. The ACL allows ESP, IKE (UDP/500), IKE over UDP (UDP/4500), DNS, HTTPS/SSL (TCP/443), DHCP client and server (UDP/67,68).The pre-auth ACL actually works as intended; and the ACL traffic is NOT allowed when the ACL is removed. This is exactly as it should be.
However, when using, for example, a VPN client such as the Cisco VPN client, or the Cisco AnyConnect client, via this guest SSID without user acceptance, the WLAN regularly and predictably stops passing traffic. This is 100% repeatable and predictable; it happens every 300 seconds, or possibly slightly longer. I have only used my PC clock to time it so the timing isn't all that accurate but I'm sure it's within a few seconds.
Given that the problem happens at the same time interval and is constant, I guessed there must be some configuration item which needs to be altered, but I've looked extensively at the controller GUI (we actually use WCS here) and I can't see anything that looks even remotely related to this.

I've been having some issues with my network connectivity for a while now, and I haven't been able to figure out what the problem is. I run a wired connection to an Ethernet port in the wall of my university dorm. I have verified that it is not a global network issue or an ISP issue; this problem only happens on my PC.My network connection drops/disconnects randomly throughout the day. When I say disconnect/drop, I mean that all attempts to ping or access the internet fail. A few minutes pass before the Network and Sharing center task tray icon shows a warning sign saying that my computer could not connect to the internet. This is temporarily fixed by doing an ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew, but I have to execute these two commands about 2-3 times a day on average.
There is no exact interval between the disconnects, nor does it happen when I am running particular programs. The disconnect happens regardless of what I am doing at the moment (gaming, browsing the internet, leaving the computer idle).A month back, I installed some Windows Updates and suddenly my internet connection was almost completely broken. I was experiencing the same issue, but much more frequently. My internet would die within 10 seconds of executing any download, but Windows wouldn't recognize that something was wrong. At first I thought the ZoneAlarm, Avast!, or the SafeConnect (as required by my university) services were causing trouble but uninstalling/disabling these services did not fix the problem.I also tried reverting to my default ethernet drivers, which did nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled multiple versions of my drivers to no avail. However, the internet worked just fine in Safe Mode with Networking, so I cross-referenced the processes/services running in Safe Mode w/ Networking against my normal startup, guessing something else was at play. After some poking around, I discovered that disabling the Server and Browser services permanently fixed the issue of instant connection death. But the initial problem I described still remains;random, less frequent internet connection drops.
