i have a cisco 3560x poe. ny currnet version is 12.2(58)SE2.the cpu process is aboute 30% average.my problem is- ping to the switch itself show me 12ms which is high latency.*note- data between two hosts no this has no latency.i realize the packet go into the cpu itself but, the cpu is not loadedusy. so my question is- is this natural behavior?

For the past week or so, I have been getting random spikes of high latency in online games like World of Warcraft/Star Wars: The Old Republic/League of Legends/etc and I have no idea what could be causing it. My ping used to run around 30-80 and lately is has been spiking from 100 to over 700 randomly. I have tried everything I could think of like not using my router, power cycling my modem several times, making sure my drivers are updated, no programs in the background causing it, no firewalls/anti-virus programs causing it, and several other little things like that. I have also called my ISP and they said everything seems to be working fine. And here's another weird thing, according to speedtest.net, my service is running as it should be: [URL]. The server my service is connecting to is in the next town over which is ~15 minutes away so that couldn't be it either.

My network Infrastructure consists of 2 core switches(cisco 3950, 24 port) and 3 access switches (cisco 2960G, 48port). No distribution layer.Both Core switches are connected to the BVI of a VPN router.PVST is running in all switches. The STP results are all good. We have 3 VLAN's in the LAN an IP routing is enables in the core switch. The network diagram is attached.
The issue we are facing is that , we get intermittent packet drops while pinging towards the access switches, and there is always a higher latency towards these assess switches.These issues are present even with no other users using the LAN. But these issues are not present while pinging towards the GW.
I guess, it is because of this, we have issues the accessing file server in the LAN. How do we go ahead with the troubleshooting. Will upgrading the IOS resolve this.The present version details is..

The setup I currently have is a server attached via an etherchannel to a 3560x switch, which is connected to a pair of 5548UP's that are connected via vpc. The 5548's both have a single connection to 6500 series switch that does the layer 3 routing, the ports that connect the 5548 to the 6504 are trunk ports. The problem that I am having is that one of the 5548's can ping the server that is connected down stream while the other 5548 can't. While the local switch can ping the server, and other servers on the same switch in the same vlan can ping it as well. The vlan interface I am pinging from on each switch is on the same subnet as the server I am trying to ping. One other thing, Nexus #1 which can ping the sever has the mac address in its mac address table, while Nexus #2 doesn't. However I added the static mac entry to Nexus #2 and that did not allow me ping either.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently moved from an old apartment in Downtown Montreal, to a suburb area, but still close to where I was before (10 km). I am using the same ISP provider, Videotron. The same speed. I was playing this game, Chivalry Medieval warfare, perfectly fine before, but now something is really wrong. Whenever I join a server, my ping skyrockets up to close to 200, sometimes drifting to 130 but never going below... and often rising back up again.Keep in mind that I filter servers by their pings. I only join servers that display a low ping (although often I won't see any, when I refresh.. there they are). I'll see a server with 30 ping, join it, and be at 200.It's entirely unplayable. Not only is it impossible to properly time parries anymore, but I also get a lot of rubberbanding. I've tested the internet here, and the speeds are accurate. 10 mbps down, 1 mbps up. I am connected to a Linksys E1200 router. I've tried everything I can possibly think of.I went into the router setup, disabled the firewall, added myself to a DMZ, tried to forward every port... rebooted the modem, my computer, the router, tried a different Ethernet cable.. nothing is working. It's very depressing. Nothing has changed on my own computer in the move. I also notice there is a delay of a second or so before I start to load a webpage when I click a link.

It came with a Universal IOS but there was no "Router" command under conf t. I downloaded and applied the latest "IP Base" IOS, but still no Router OSPF. Based on the matrix here > [URL] I thought "IP Base" supported OSPF, but what exactly is "OSPF for routed access" ? Do I actually need an "IP Services" IOS? From my download options, I do not see an IP Services IOS for the 3560X-24P-L so I'm left to assume that the switch does not support L3 / OSPF. So my question is this particular switch supports L3 / OSPF and what is Universal IOS?

VLAN 10 - 192.168.8.254 (USER VLAN)
VLAN 20 - 192.168.152.254 (REMOTE & VPN USERS VLAN)
VLAN 30 - 192.168.0.254 (SERVER VLAN)
After configuring DHCP, all the users needs to get IP from USER VLAN and all the servers should get IP from SERVER VLAN. If yes, what are the steps as I am very new in this kind of configuration.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI haven't worked with infrastructure much lately but planning on replacing a Dell switch used for a small iSCSI SAN with a Cisco 3560x. Switch is sstorage ONLY, network handled through different switches. I believe I want to disable spanning tree and configure trunking for the 4 GB ports connected to the storage array. The switch is providing connectivity to SAN via multiple GB connections and then also multiple GB connections to 3 Vmware hosts.Can you look over the changes I made to config below and let me know if I am on the right track.
I also plan to add a second switch later with the 10GB modules to interconnect for redundancy (but not worried about that part for now). I do not plan on using jumbo frames.
Here are my questions
1) Is the best way to globally disable spanning tree for the switch?
2) Did I trunk the ports correctly below?
3) Should I apply any specific SmartRoles to the 4 SAN NICs (GE1-4) or to host NICs (GE13-20)?
4) Anything additional I should do to handle iSCSI data?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am working with 3750 switch.I console the switch and turn it on and it doesn’t show text in hyper terminal with any BAUD (I tried all the speeds). The hyper terminal works with other switches so the problem is not with the hyper terminal.when I tried to break the password it stuck after I was writing "flash_init" and when I entered or typed text it show only garbage characters. I tried to break the password with all the speeds and it shows garbage output. I tried to turn on the switch and hold control + break and it showed the text only with the speed 115200, but after I left holding and tried to type it showed only garbage again. Also I tried to copy text from the notepad to the hyper terminal.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy network generally runs older routers (2600 series) with 16 port switch modules (NM-ESW-16). This has always worked great since I can configure the router and the switch ports on the fly, making changes to either as necessary. Well I am upgrading to 2811 routers, and we wanted to get gigabit ethernet ports on our switch modules. I think I made an error when I purchased a few of these switch modules: NME-16ES-1G.
The first problem, is that the switch ports don't even show up on the router config, I have to establish a session into the switch, (And I can't seem to get back to the router unless I manually switch off power and restart). I don't like this type of switch module, it's like I'm running a completely separate device, and while having a layer 3 switch is cool, It doesn't let me setup routing protocols so I don't like doing it this way. I want to go back to using a switch module that simply adds a ton of ports to my router like the NM-ESW-16. (Note: The NM-ESW-16 does actually work in the 2811 and would be perfect if it were Gigabit speed.)
The seconds problem is that the NME-16ES-1G isn't actually a Gigabit switch. It has a single gigabit port, but the 16 ports are all Fastethernet, and not gigabitethernet. So ideally, I am looking for a switch module that I can fully configure from the router interface that has 16 gigabitethernet ports, and works with a 2811. IE I want to do this. [code]

Out of which 1 switch issue sorted out auto after 2 days however the problem is still exists with rest 3 switches.They are 6-7 year old and having one SUP engine and other are switch port modules.

show platform ip unicast failed route and adjacencies displays a lot of entries, I've seen up to 1200.
After restart HL3U bkgrd proce takes around 10 - 20 % CPU, some hours later 99%.
A coupe of times we got logs like this:

I have been working on some Catalyst 3750's running 12.2(55)SE6 and hit an issue with CEF load-balancing over multiple equal-cost paths. Anyway this issue is now solved but it introduced me to the command 'show platform forward' - this shows you how the forwarding of a packet would be done via hardware cef (as opposed to the command 'sho ip cef exact-route' command that only shows the software cef path). Anyway I tried the command on a 3560G running 15.0(2)SE and it crashes the switch. I tried it a couple of times and verified that the MAC & IP addresses were exactly right in the command and each time the switch crashes. I have extracted the relevant bits from the crashinfo and attached them.

I am a little stuck trying to troubleshoot unusually high cpu on 7600 Platform.This has been going on for many hours and not been causing a problem, but this doesn't seem replicated in our network and I am concerned about the cause.I have attached some output below, and disabled netflow on interfaces to free some switching CPU. How to track the cause of this? We only have routing protocols and 5 static routes to Null 0, so I cant see how this can be a route loop, but willing to stand corrected. Routes are learned from BGP with OSPF/MPLS internally on the network. This switch also connects to access switches on RIP and EIGRP.
No change has been made to this device when this problem started to occur so I am suspecting something about the traffic has changed or there is a rougue user? [code]
i am seeing very high utilization on a random basis on the stack. and the logs indicate me that there is a pattern where there is a stack power cable shows inserted (which was never unplugged) followed by sudden spike in the utilization.

i want to understand why this 2 proceses (DHCPD & ARP input) taking more memory?High CPU: We also facing intermediate high CPU utilization (above 95%). We have a problem of igh CPU Utilization in Cisco 4510R-with dual SUP V-10G modules.
Cisco 4510R switch is the CORE switch and have 30 no's of VLans. It was running PVST/PVST+ previously. But Now we have migrated to MST. But after upgradation the CPU utilization reached alomst 98%.
We have Cisco ME3400 switch, with configuration described below.

We have two core switches in our network (Cisco WS-4503). HSRP is working as Active-Standby mode. Recently it has been found that core 1 (which is in active mode) shown high CPU load (60% - 100%). Also found that the below mentioned process takes more CPU. Our network consist of around 30 Vlans. 1. when user 1 copy data from server ,at that time who is in switch2 behind like user2 ,he is getting problem like when ping to default-gateway,or rto is coming and network is very slow .
2. when i open sw2,sw1,sw3,trunk ports utilization is very high except sw4 to sw1 trunk ports,who behind sw4 like user4 ,he is not getting problem.
3.all switches trunkport in my network is faster ethernet and i have no option to connect trunkport to gigaehternet and ethernet channel.
I upgraded the newest IOS 15.0(1)SE for our SW C2960-24-TT-L, the process was succeseful. However, we found SW memory utilization raised to 82% this morning in normal situation. (Momery: Total 21341260, Used17471692) Did you guys meet the same problem after upgrading to 15.0(1)SE? I also would like to know what the normal memory utilization is? and what is the impact of memory utilization highly?
