Cisco Switching/Routing :: WS-C6509-E / VSS Switch Showing Very High CPU Continue?
Aug 8, 2012
We are facing issue of getting very high CPU utilization for the VSS Switch model WS-C6509-E some times approx 100%.Attaching here show tech-support taken later after CPU normal along with show logging, show cpu sorted.HCAINNOI01XXXCS0001#sh proces cpu | ex 0.0%CPU utilization for five seconds: 100%/13%; one minute: 90%; five minutes: 91%PID 5Sec 1Min 5Min Process16406 91.2% 75.2% 76.2% ios-base16426 1.7% 1.4% 1.4% udp.proc16429 0.3% 0.3% 0.3% raw_ip.proc16432 2.8% 3.1% 3.1% cdp2.iosproc
I have a 2 cisco core (cisco WS-C6509-E (R7000) processor) and been working for quite sometime.they are conneted with HSRP with active standby config with a 10 g module for redundancy just today I see that the cpu utilization went to about 50% and its the same on both cores.
We have two c6509 budled in VSS. I have noticed randomly high usage of CPU, sometimes up to 99% in peaks. I have found that it can be generated by SNMP engine. So I unconfigure all SNMP things. But situation is the same. I would like to know if this state is OK or not. CPU shows are enclosed in file.
I have a C6509 with WS-X6548-GE-TX port module. The first port group, 1-8, is showing oversubscription (packets dropping) in the shared buffer. What interface commands can I use to find the specific port causing the buffer overflow?None of the ports is continuously overutilized and none of them in a SPAN destination group.I don't want to move connections without knowing which one is causing the problem. Also I fear that moving the connections may shift the bleeding to another shared port group.
We have a C4500 with 2 sup V which is showing high CPU values sometimes. When this occures, the switch shows 95-100% for total cpu for a few hours at a time.show proccesses cpu shows process Cat4k Mgmt LoPri with an unusual cpu value of 65% The show platform heath command gave me a high reading for K2FibFC DelFlow which is about 50% at this peak but is normaly around 1%?
what the process K2FibFC DelFlow means and what could be the cause of this peak?
I have having two Cisco 6509 both working are my main Core Switches with which I have all my Layer 2 VLANs configured and then distributed thru the trunks links to all the Access Switches. I have L3- Vlans also configured on them with which one switch in primary and the other is secondary. All of sudden last night I got this message on my core switch 2 this for VLAN 1 which is my users LAN, how can I check as to what would have caused the core switch 2 HSRP to be active and then in standby

Also last night i got call from office saying that we are getting huge delay in pinging the default gateway of the user LAN which is the same vlan as the above and it was just for few minutes and then it was back to normal and now when I came to office and check there were no logs in both the core switches. When I checked the cpu utlization it was showing me high on both the switches how can I check as to what would have caused the CPU utilisation to go high all of suddedn?

In Cisco 3750 facing high CPU utilization for specific period. During this period traffic response times across the switch degrades. Steps to identify interface potentially generating traffic. I have attached 'sh proc cpu history' , ' sh ip traffic', 'sh proc cpu sorted' during troubled period .
I am a new network engineer on a retail company and I am having a problem on the High utilization of my 3-stack switch 2960 only during Peak Hours of the Store Sales.
Note: on Peak hours, it is peaking at 90-95 % here is the utilization after Peak hours: 4444333334444433333333333333333333333333333333333333333333
I have been facing High CPU Utilization issue with few of my Cisco 4006 Switches together from last one month. Out of which 1 switch issue sorted out auto after 2 days however the problem is still exists with rest 3 switches. They are 6-7 year old and having one SUP engine and other are switch port modules.
I'm facing high CPU utilization issue due to a ssh process on 3750 switch. What is the use of SSH proces in the switch? Can I disable it for troubleshooting?
will there be any impact if I disable it?

We are facing issue of high Latency and slowness with Switch Cisco 4507R at the Customer site.show logging for the Switch and if there is any IOS related issue [BUG] or some other finding for this case.
We have supplied Cisco Swtch 2960 with gig SFP modules. It is working fine. However, when I do a show inventory it show proper part no. for the switch chassis but for the GLC T module it shows as unspecified in the PID column.
I am a little stuck trying to troubleshoot unusually high cpu on 7600 Platform. This has been going on for many hours and not been causing a problem, but this doesn't seem replicated in our network and I am concerned about the cause.I have attached some output below, and disabled netflow on interfaces to free some switching CPU. How to track the cause of this? We only have routing protocols and 5 static routes to Null 0, so I cant see how this can be a route loop, but willing to stand corrected. Routes are learned from BGP with OSPF/MPLS internally on the network. This switch also connects to access switches on RIP and EIGRP.
No change has been made to this device when this problem started to occur so I am suspecting something about the traffic has changed or there is a rougue user? [code]
i am seeing very high utilization on a random basis on the stack. and the logs indicate me that there is a pattern where there is a stack power cable shows inserted (which was never unplugged) followed by sudden spike in the utilization.

We are having 3750 Stack switch as our edge switch. Here we are having some issues as low memory & itermediate High CPU utilization. For memory when we checked its shwoing maximum memory is allocated to DHCPD receive & ARP Input as follows
Processor Pool Total: 70829380 Used: 56809532 Free: 14019848 I/O Pool Total: 12582912 Used: 8554920 Free: 4027992 Driver te Pool Total: 1048576 Used: 40 Free: 1048536

i want to understand why this 2 proceses (DHCPD & ARP input) taking more memory?High CPU: We also facing intermediate high CPU utilization (above 95%). When CPU is high there were 2 processes consuming more CPU are 'Spanning Tree' (about 20%) & ARP Input (about 66%). we also checked the ARP entries, there were 1500 ARP entries & 2 incomplete ARP (out of 6000 ARP supported)
We had a core switch(30 vlans) in our environment and it's noticed that CPU utilization of the core switch is showing high during recent days. I have checked logs and processes, but couldn't find the root cause. The issue found only in the office hourly only(after that the cpu utilization is idle and normal). I have already referred the following link to troubleshoot the issue " [URL]
see the following outputs from the core switch

Note: Each Invalid source mac entry in each day from same port (above is the output after clearing logs before 3 days)
My queries regarding the issues are following
1) How can we find root cause regarding the high cpu utilization?
2) Is a single invalid mac address makes the cpu highly utilized for suppressing it?
We have a problem of igh CPU Utilization in Cisco 4510R-with dual SUP V-10G modules.
Cisco 4510R switch is the CORE switch and have 30 no's of VLans. It was running PVST/PVST+ previously. But Now we have migrated to MST. But after upgradation the CPU utilization reached alomst 98%.
We have also tried Loopguard feature enabled on all ports: but after some period same problem is repeated.

We have two core switches in our network (Cisco WS-4503). HSRP is working as Active-Standby mode. Recently it has been found that core 1 (which is in active mode) shown high CPU load (60% - 100%). Also found that the below mentioned process takes more CPU. Our network consist of around 30 Vlans. We have already checked for the solution in Cisco website [URL] but couldn't find exact reason. see the below outputs for core 1 switch.

In my network we use all cisco 2960 switches, problem is when someone copying 4gb data or high from one switch to another switch, by that time rto (Request time out) is coming.
router | | |
[Code]....
1. when user 1 copy data from server ,at that time who is in switch2 behind like user2 ,he is getting problem like when ping to default-gateway,or rto is coming and network is very slow .
2. when i open sw2,sw1,sw3,trunk ports utilization is very high except sw4 to sw1 trunk ports, who behind sw4 like user4 ,he is not getting problem.
3.all switches trunkport in my network is faster ethernet and i have no option to connect trunkport to gigaehternet and ethernet channel.
We have a cisco 3750-48 port switch. We have a few SVI's configured and some static routes configured.I had created a new interface vlan and gave it an IP. I can ping the gateway.
Now I want to add a static route to go out that interface.when I add: ip route 10.x.x.x 255.255.255.0 10.52.10.1
it eccepts it (no errors) But, it does not show in the routing table nor in the config? How to add the static route to go out that vlan interface.
I upgraded the newest IOS 15.0(1)SE for our SW C2960-24-TT-L, the process was succeseful. However, we found SW memory utilization raised to 82% this morning in normal situation. (Momery: Total 21341260, Used17471692) Did you guys meet the same problem after upgrading to 15.0(1)SE? I also would like to know what the normal memory utilization is? and what is the impact of memory utilization highly?
I just got a Cisco 2960G 24-port gigabit switch so that our HP servers can have a Gigabit connection to the network. I moved 2 servers to it (HP Proliant DL380's) but they don't actually seem to be able to achieve even close to 1000Gbps. I ran same some LAN bandwidth tests and it was showing only around 200-300 Mbps between all of them. I also ran a network stress test utility, LAN Tornado, and it was showing packet loss as high as 60% when on gigabit, and only .07% when on 100Mbps.
-Both the NIC's and the switch ports are set to 1000/Full
-Currently using Cat5e cabling no more than 25Ft in length (I know Cat6 would be better but Cat5e is supposed to support Gigabit)
-All servers are on the same VLAN
Here are the port statistics when running just a stress test @ 10Mbps that had a 45% packet loss. What's odd though is when I set the servers and switches to 100Mbps, I get less than 1% packet loss.
GigabitEthernet1/0/16 is up, line protocol is up (connected) Hardware is Gigabit Ethernet, address is 203a.07ff.7e90 (bia 203a.07ff.7e90) MTU 9000 bytes, BW 1000000 Kbit/sec, DLY 10 usec,
I upgrade the IOS of my switch 3560 from C3560-IPBASE-M), Version 12.2(25)SEB4, To C3560-IPBASEK9-M), Version 12.2(55)SE5 after that the utilizatio of the memory increase to 80% I attached the output of show memory statistics history
WS-C3750G-24TS-S1U switch stack with high CPU utilization. 3 switches are stacked and using PBR on that. I am attaching the show cpu process as an attachment. The current template is "desktop routing" template. The selected template optimizes the resources in the switch to support this level of features for 8 routed interfaces and 1024 VLANs. i have a cisco 3560x poe. ny currnet version is 12.2(58)SE2.the cpu process is aboute 30% average.my problem is- ping to the switch itself show me 12ms which is high latency.*note- data between two hosts no this has no latency.i realize the packet go into the cpu itself but, the cpu is not loadedusy. so my question is- is this natural behavior?
We would like to install a WS-SVC-WISM2-1-K9 in each of our 2 WS-C6509-E chassis. Both of these have supervisor 720 engines installed. One in each chassis. From what I have read we need to upgrade the IOS to 12.2.33 SXJ4. Is this correct? If this is true then what are the memory requirements for the upgrade to this IOS version. Below is the output from Show version? Is there sufficient memory instqalled to do this install?
we plan to implement VSS on our datacenters (C6509/Sup720), in order to remove L2 loops (currently, access layer are C3750 stacks, which could evoluate for N5K/N2K). I would like to have some feedbacks about VSS stability. Some years ago, I have seen some bugs with this technology in another company, so I am still not totally comfortable to use it in the datacenter.
We plan to implement a large number of ACL on our Distribution switch which is a HSRP pair of 6509C switches running on sup-bootflash:s72033-psv-mz.122-18.SXD3.bin WE need to divide the Network in three layers
unsecure layer Proxy layer Secure layer
We have approximately 250 vlans on the our distribution switches and plan to implement 15 ACL on different vlans Each ACL can contain upto 30 lines or less.
basic ACL example we will be applying on different vlan vlan 200 ip access-group test123 in
My question is Can these ACL on a vlan can have a massive impact on the 6509 CPU ?
