Our DIR-615 has started freezing and when reset (power cycled), it reverts to factory settings. This has been running 24/7 for several months with no problem. Three days in a row now I've woken up to find our home network is down and the DIR-615 status lights are "yellow". Power cycling the DIR615 resolves the problem however the DIR-615 looses its settings, reverting to factory defaults (looses the admin password, wireless settings, etc). I can reload the settings from a file saved on my computer but needless to say, this is a bit annoying. I don't believe there are any wireless clients connected at the time as most of the wireless is served by an airport two floors up. There are several wired devices always connected:
a Zoom ATA carrying our "land line"
a tivo (doing whatever tivo boxes do)
a SSL based Voip phone (different than the zoom ata)
an AirPort Express 802.11n (bridge mode) which may have a couple of wireless clients
a laptop which may or may not be sleeping at the time
There are a couple of ethernet switches in the network. Some of the devices acquire addresses via DHCP, others are assigned fixed addresses outside the range of the DHCP addresses served by the DIR-615.Nothing has changed on the network in months.
The only settings I've messed with on the DIR-615 are:
a) set the admin/user passwords
b) Set the wireless network name, enable WPA, set the WPA Key
c) enabled ntp (this is now disabled and I've set the time manually)
d) Change the network base from 192.168.0. to 192.168.4.
The DIR-615 is hardware rev E3, Firmware 5.10 The cable modem (from RCN) is a Scientific American model DPC2100R2

I recently replaced RV016 with a new one. Now I'm having connectivity issues with my server. One particular software I'm running on workstations will no longer connect. Everything is set up the same as with the old RV016. Internet connection is fine.
Based on the tech support from the software company, they are saying - "The clients contact the server using the HTTP protocol and the server IP address or host name. You should begin troubleshooting by pinging the server from the workstations to see if they have any connectivity to the server and move forward based on the result of that ping." Pinging the server from the workstations results in timing out.

I've downloaded the file "RV0XX-v4.1.0.02-tm.bin" from Cisco's web site. The current firmware in the RV016 router is V3. I log into the router with IE9 (or even firefox), navigate to the system management section, upgrade firmware tab. Browse to the file above and click the button to upgrade. Nothing happens for a few seconds, then the browser displays cant load this page. (Same results if I use the file "RV0XX-v4.1.1.01-sp.bin" as well.)

ATTACHED: My current running config with sensitive info taken out.
I have a Cisco 881 Router connected to cable modem. The router is running IOS 15.1.
I have it configured exactly the same way as an 877 router running IOS 12.1 which does not exhibit the problem. Just a standard LAN/WAN config with basic routing/firewall.
When the internet connection is lost for any reason and then re-established the router will no longer pass internet traffic unless I reboot the router.
I used Cisco Configuration Professional to configure the router. The key setting seems to be the Router Static Route. We have a static IP and I set static route with the "make this the default route" checked. Then I set forward (next hop) to the IP my ISP gave me as their gateway.
This is exactly the same way I set the 877 router using the same ISP but in a different office.
Every so often the internet is lost due to power outage or the ISP doing something on their end and every time that happens we have to reboot the router which is quite annoying.
I did not have the "permanent route" check mark checked but I do not have it checked on the router that does not have the problem either so I don't think that's it.
When I set the static route to "interface" then added the static IP of the next hop it will continue to work for incoming connections but not outgoing.

I have a client who has 4 computers in the house all running wireless. 2 desktops and 2 laptops. One of the laptops is running XP and after 5-10 minutes of surfing, the internet stops working while all the other computers retain a good internet connection. Repairing the connection via the taskbar icon fixes it temporarily until the issue reoccurs.

Internet connectivity on my laptop is lost shortly after beginning to upload/download files over the internet to my cloud storage provider. I also lose connectivity when transferring files to or from the laptop within my LAN to a desktop computer connected via wireless router as part of a workgroup. Connectivity is only restored once I restart the laptop or uninstall, then reinstall drivers for my wireless network card. The issue then reoccurs once file transfers begin again. The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. The driver for my Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN internal network adapter are up to date. I have a Linksys WRT610N ver.2 router, and an HP Pavilion dv6500 laptop.

We are having several issues with the new batch of RV016 (rebranded as cisco and with cisco firmware. The Cisco RV016’s are configured to load balance aDSL internet access from 4 Cisco 877 modems/routers. Ports used are WAN1, WAN2, WAN3, WAN4.
Issues are: WAN 1 port resets to 0.0.0.0 regularly and traffic on WAN 1 fails DNS fails regularly behind the RV016 onlyIntermittent internet connection behind the RV016Slow internet connection behind the RV016Extremely slow DNS query and reply behind the RV016 (DNS resolve takes 1min -1m30)
The issues above are reported from different deployment sites and with different scenarios.
We also test above with Code...

We have an RV016 (hardware version 2, firmware version 3.0.2.01) behind a cable modem. Attached to this RV016 is a switch to which our other devices are connected. Among those is another switch, a wireless access point and our VOIP phone system.
The issue with this setup seems to be as follows:
The Mac machines at our office seem to be unable to get internet access reliably. What we have observed is that a connection to the wireless access point is made. Google will load fine, then when performing a search it comes back with either a dns lookup error or just says that the site can't be found. Sometimes sites will load just fine, sometimes they don't. Our Windows or Ubuntu machines in our office hardly ever have that issue, but they do on occasion. Essentially internet is usable on Windows and Ubuntu, but not on a newer Mac. Mainly three Macs are affected that run a newer OS. Two other Macs (older OS) seem to be fine. My coworkers (who have that issue at work) report that at home they do not.
The DNS servers on the router were set to our ISPs addresses. I have since changed them to opendns servers. The issue persists.
When connecting a MacBook directly to the cable modem, everything works fine. Since we are using NAT, I do need to use the router. There are devices attached to it that these users need to be able to get to.

Having just received a new Dell XPS8500 running on Windows 7 and I have the following problem: My wifi connection is turning off and the name of my network is no longer displaying in the list of available networks. This means that I am unable to access the internet or emails rendering the computer unusable as I am not on broadband (using access from another router close by). It is absolutely critical that the wifi connection is always on.

This is my network topology. Sometimes it just suddenly loses conenctivity or traffic for unknown reasons, like the internet hangs for much time or maybe some routers just stop responding, even restarting ! Do you think there should be a Multi-WAN router that could take 4 WAN lines and give one LAN to plug at a switch for a better performance ?I know that my setup is wrong, give me your opinion about it and how to fix it .

Major symptom: Maddeningly intermittent wireless issues with Asus laptop after repair. Unable to connect to network after sleep or reboot on upper floors of house.
History:
1) Laptop wireless was working fine but power jack and case were damaged.
2) Sent away to Asus for free repair (pulled the HD first).
3) Got it back and seemed fine, but...
Problem:Wireless starting dropping after sleep. It's my wife's laptop and she usually uses it on the 2nd floor of the house.Routers are on the first floor. It failed the same way on both my G and N routers. Played with all sorts of settings, disabled IPv6, reinstalled drivers, checked for BIOS update. No luck . Eventually saw some event log entries that might have been associated with a bad wifi card. Ordered a new Intel 100 N (OEM model) and replaced card, same issues. Swapped card with a Broadcom 1510 from an old Dell I had. Same problem.
Tried more settings, static IP, flushing DNS, etc. Same problem. At this point the event log has nothing notable in it, no error logs anywhere the wireless card will just report no connectivity.when I work on this laptop I take it down into my office, which is on the 1st floor by my router. The laptop works flawlessly there (10 feet from the router). So my theory at this point is that Asus damaged or otherwise messed up the laptop antenna while repairing the laptop. most of the time on the 2nd floor the windows wifi icon reports a perfectly good signal, and if I boot the laptop on the first floor and walk upstairs, the laptop works fine(as long as I don't reboot or let it go to sleep).

My primary home machine loses network connectivity for a very brief moment once or twice a day. Here's what I've observed over the past few months:
Seems to happen every 12 hours after a restart Disconnect is very, very brief. Putty sessions, online games, or other applications that require a consistent connection disconnect but it's rare that I can see a ping fail when everything else disconnects.Does not coincide with network problems on other machines (Xbox/media PC/wife's PC).
Other details about my system and home network:
Windows 7
Asus motherboard (couple generations old) with onboard ethernet
Ethernet > wired hub > wireless router > cable modem (wife's PC is connected to the same hub and does not have the problem, at least not on the same schedule)
Things I've tried (and will probably now try again just in case)
Restore network card driver (I'm in the process of finding a specific one for my motherboard)
Tinkered with power saving settings in the ethernet card drivers.
Fully up-to-date Windows install.
Static IP address reserved by the wireless router running DHCP
I'm not 100% sure, but I think this problem persisted across Windows OS upgrades (from Vista to Windows 7 a few months back)
By far the weirdest part is that it seems to happen every 12 hours. Like clockwork, I can predict that I'm going to disconnect from any persistent online connection if I know the last time I restarted my machine.
Solved:I caused my own problem long ago when trying to set static IP addresses in my home. I have a Netgear Router (WGR614v9) and I played with the Address Reservation feature. In addition, I manually set the IP address I wanted to have on my machine using the normal network card properties. Setting the IP address manually is what seems to have caused the conflict.
Finally looked in the Windows Event Viewer and the culprit was quickly identified. At time of restart and every 12 hours later, the following error appeared:
The IP address lease 192.168.1.20 for the Network Card with network address XXXXXXXXXX has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.1.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).
I accidentally fixed it for all affected machines by changing the start address of the DHCP server on the router (increased it from 20 to 30). That seemed to kick all the manual entries out and set them back to automatic obtain mode.

I'm using this router for connecting 2 PCs, one lap top and few mobiles. The LAN network is always stable and never loses connection, but I'm having problems with the wireless connection. My lap top runs on wireless, and 3 Android mobiles, an xperia mini pro (problematic), xperia Tipo and Alcatel OT-908F. Almost always when I login to facebook on any of the mobiles, pictures won't show, and also youtube videos thumbnails won't show. On the xperia mini pro after 2-3 minutes of surfing, or doing anything else the connection drops, and then the mobiles can't see the wireless connection. My lap top can see it, but it cannot connect. After restarting the router everything is back to normal.

I have a new EA3500 router that's working great for a variety of devices* except a Windows7 laptop. 24 hours after establishing a connection, the laptop loses connectivity and it's very difficult to re-establish a connection. Usually I have to reboot the router, but 24 hours later the problem returns and Windows is unable to connect.
My router settings include DHCP client lease time set to 1440 minutes (24 hours), so I thought the problem might have something to do with DHCP lease renewal. To test this theory, on Saturday night I did ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew and established connectivity from the laptop.
Sunday morning I spoke with Linksys support and changed several settings per their recommendation:Network mode mixed (I had it on N-only for some reason)Assigned different SSIDs to the 2.4GHz band and 5 GHz band2.4 GHz band channel is 20MHz only, using channel 95 GHz band channel is 40 MHz only, using channel 161I also power cycled the router. Everything worked fine until Sunday night, 24 hours after the release/renew, when I lost connectivity. I am not sure what to try next and whether the problem lies with the router or the laptop.

I have an RV220W running firmware 1.0.4.17. I have a couple of wireless laptop users that connect to the wireless without problems, but frequently cannot access the Internet. They can always access local network resources, but for some reason when laptops are first powered up or are idle for a prolonged period of time, Internet access is lost. Wired clients never experience this problem and always maintain local network and Internet connectivity.
To get the laptops to access the Internet over wireless, we have to run a TRACERT command from the command prompt to a public IP address, and then all Internet access is restored.

Looking for a SOHO device that could accomplish not only to connect people from home to Internet, but also to let me remotely access my work stuff (from my home office), RV180W sounded great and really cost effective. I could connect to Internet, FROM Internet, separate home, work and guest VLANs, all in just one device... sounded just GREAT! Bought one but (unfortunately) I have to say I'm quite disappointed with its performance, outnumbered errors (how many!) and continuous lost of Internet connectivity (can't stay a full day without one).I've searched a lot (not only here) and tried many things, listing some:
- Upgrading firmware (now v1.0.2.6): done several times, once with nothing connected to the router besides a local wired laptop, to ensure integrity
- Resetting to factory defaults and performing a "clean configuration", from scratch (done several times)
- Disabling Firewall functions (once all of them)
- Checking the real need of every option and making sure I had just the ones I needed configured
I have (in a very "consistent" way) the following problems:
- Poor performance (it's clearly much better when I directly connect to the cable modem's WiFi OR to another router connected to this cable modem). I could say that it seems to have 50% of the performance I had with my CISCO/Linksys E4200 and Netgear "elder" routers.
- Persistent disconnections / resets: Sometimes it happens only with wireless, sometimes it looses the "Internet forwarding capability", retaining the local wireless connection (to other devices), sometimes it seems to make a full reboot (including a new DHCP request to cable modem). In a day this happens several times, I'd say from 3 to 15 times, depending on the day (couldn't figure out why).
CPU utilization is always shown as being 100%, what sounds amazing, because:
- There are usually just 4 wired connections (3 storage devices + 1 Desktop) and at most 5 wireless connections (including my laptop connected to the main VLAN and 3 Android devices and 1 "guest" laptop connected to GUEST VLAN)
- The utilization % remains when I have jut one laptop performing Internet browsing and nothing more
- VPN wasn't enabled yet (and it will be, as I want to remotely connect to my home office) [code] ......

I have a rv016 that's been in 24x7 operation since I bought it a few years back. It is out of warranty. It is connected to three cable modems on WANs 1-3. Behind it are a bunch of PCs getting IPs via DHCP. There is a gateway to gateway vpn tunnel setup on wan3 to a rv082 at another site. There is a forwarding entry for http to an internal http server. Everything else is pretty much default.
The router is primarily used to aggregate bandwidth for uploading large numbers of photos. The systems behind the router initiate the uploads and the router automatically load balances the outgoing bandwidth.
This was all working fine until just recently. The ISP is Knology who is upgrading each of the 8m/768k cable modems to 25m/5m. They are also moving from DOCSIS 1 to DOCSIS 3. They are currently in the middle of this upgrade and have upgraded the modems to DOCSIS 3 as well as the speeds to 12m/2m. The problem is that the rv016 Network Service Detection, which is set to "Default Gateway" indicates that the modems fail randomly. Usually only one will be failed, but up to two will fail the Network Service Detection simultaneously.
Knology insists that there is nothing wrong with their modems. I have removed a modem from the rv016 when Network Service Detection indicates it is in a failed state and connected it directly to a computer. It will work, but it has a different IP address and default gateway. As soon as I connect it back to the rv016, it works there too, but on the original IP address and gateway. I've only tried this test this twice so far, so it is a bit inconclusive.
Speed tests behind the rv016 are the same as directly connected to one of the cable modems. The router works normally as it has for years. Nothing else is acting funny.
So my question is, is the rv016 failing or is the ISP having problems?

After a recent power outage while my PC was in sleep mode, I don't have wired (Ethernet) connectivity.
I have new Dimension E510XP Media Center Edition, Version 2002, SP3 ver had an issue with wired connectivity on this PC after coming out of sleep mode. Of course, the power failure was unusual.
Observations:
- ipconfig /all shows that I have an IP address
- I can ping the DHCP server listed in ipconfig /all and I also can ping google.com.
- I was going to go a restore point set before the power outage. But, somehow system restore had gotten turned off. Oh, well. I did go ahead and turn system restore back on.
Things I've already tried that did not solve the issue:
- Reboot
- Uninstall/reinstall the network adapter driver. Device Manager says the network adapter card is working properly.
- Looked for an updated network adapter driver on Dell's website. Turns out that I have the latest driver already.
- Followed many of the steps from Microsoft at [URL]
- Checked McAfee Security Center firewall permissions list to see if something got changed. Everything looked okay. Also disabled the firewall just to be sure,
- Disabled SafeEyes internet filter.
- Reset the router. Also swapped router ports with a known good PC. The known good PC still had connectivity, the affected PC (the E510) did not.
