Cisco Routers :: RV042 Connectivity Loss After Upgrade To 1.3.13.02
Aug 17, 2011
After upgrading an RV042 from 1.3.12.19 to 1.3.13.02, it loses connectivity after several hours. RV042 WAN1 is connected to cable modem (WAN2/DMZ is unused), configured to obtain IP Address.
Cold booting all devices, RV042, AP & Cable modem, re-established connectivity. Only to lose connectivity again several hours later.
Reset RV042 to factory default via reset switch and cleared log. Minimal configuration applied (domain name, hostname, ntp, WAN1 bw=8000).
Checked early this morning and no connectivity. Summary screen showed the same IP on WAN1 port. All appeared normal. Clicked renew, and connectivity was re-established. Same IP as before.
The RV042, when running 1.3.12.19, would run for many months without a hiccup.
This is the log entry when I clicked 'renew':
Aug 18 04:12:40 2011
System Log
DHCP lease info: ip[68.202.x.x] mask[255.255.240.0] gw[68.202.x.x]
[Code].....
Clicking 'renew' did re-establish connectivity, but I'm not sure if it's a dhcp issue or not. If I read the log entry correctly, the router has the IP lease for an hour, which means it renews several times successfully. Connectivity is down in the morning after several hours go by without use. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. Again, nothing changed but the code and the RV042 ran without problems for months with the 1.3.12.19 code.
I'm about to upgrading our RV042 to RV042G since everything in the Network ist ready for Gigabit except the RV042
I think it's important to mention that another RV042, which is at a 2nd location, will remain for the VPN connection between the two locations. (Older Hardware are used at the 2nd location).
My Question is, are there any known issues, which should be cleared before changing the router.
Mainly issues with configuration migration and compatibility between RV042 and RV042G VPN connections.
I have the a problem, when I do a upgrade of a SMB RV042 and the PC that contain the upgrade file is in the same segment of the RV042 the upgrades is succesfull, but when the PC is in another subnet, upgrade fails. There are conectivity betwen the two subnets and there are not a firewall.
Tried upgrading my firmware to 4.0.2.08-tm and now I cannot log in via the web interface. The router boots and gets out to the internet. It still allows incoming vpn connections. The login screen displays and will display an error message if I use incorrect credentials, but if I log in properly and am directed to the routers web config homepage at "192.168.1.1/default.htm", I get a 404 error message. Telnet does not work either (not sure if it's on, never used it before) 404 Not FoundThe requested server-side-includes filename, /usr/local/EasyAccess/www/htdocs/default.htm, does not seem to exist. As if the web pages after the login screen got removed or corrupted after the update.
SN is NKS10403247
I realize there is a newer version. Attempted the upgrade incrementally since I could not find documentation specifiying if that was required or not.
I have a problem with a brand new RV042 v3 hardware,I upgraded the firmware from 4.1 to 4.2 and now can not see the web interface in firefox, the login appears and the left menu appears, but at the right nothing is shown
I tried doing the firmware rescue util but the same problem happens.if this a know issue? Should I RMA it?
After upgrading the firmware on my RV042 router to version 1.3.13.02-tm, I am experiencing very slow Internet response on most sites. In some instances, when the page does load, it lacks many graphics. Frequently, I also receive a "server not found"error. In all cases, reloading the page (once it has loaded) results in a complete page display. This is occuring on two MacBook Pros and also on an iPad. The router is a version 1, so no further upgrades are available. I contacted support, but since it is out of warranty, they are unwilling to assist. Prior to the upgrade, everything worked fine, as it has for 5 years.
We have a CISCO RV042. We are about to begin a VIOP service with Vocalocity who state:
The RV042 is a wired router that requires no configuration adjustments for the firmware versions we tested. Version 1 and 2 are compatible. Version 3 is NOT. Firmware Reviewed: 1.3.12.6 | 1.3.12.19
Our router's firmware is : 1.3.8.2 (Feb 12 2007 10:43:08)
Can we upgrade to 1.3.12.6 or 1.3.12.19? What is meant by Version 1, 2 and 3?
I've downloaded the file "RV0XX-v4.1.0.02-tm.bin" from Cisco's web site. The current firmware in the RV016 router is V3. I log into the router with IE9 (or even firefox), navigate to the system management section, upgrade firmware tab. Browse to the file above and click the button to upgrade. Nothing happens for a few seconds, then the browser displays cant load this page. (Same results if I use the file "RV0XX-v4.1.1.01-sp.bin" as well.)
I attempted a firmware upgrade on my RV042. After an hour, the upgrade was still in progress. I now cannot login into the router using my user name and password (nor the old admin/admin). The router is functioning, but I fear it will eventually fail. How can I recover ability to log in? The Firmward Recovery program doesn't seem to be appropriate for this situation.
I have a 2921 series router w 15.1M series IOS. The platform has HWIC-2SHDSL module installed, which is used for point-to-point G.SHDSL connectivity. When I apply a service-policy on atm pvc, after 10 to 20 minutes I lose IP connectivity on ATM interface and tunnel interface also goes to down state. If I remove the service policy on ATM PVC IP connectivty returns back.
Interestingly I use exactly the same config on 2821 platform (w. WIC-1SHDSL installed) and I do not live such an issue on that platform.I tried to carry the Qos config on to Tunnel interface with shaping enabled and "no qos-preclassify" command issued, but the result is the same.

2 VLANS are configured on 2811 and terminated on 2960 switch on two ports, not a trunk configuration. Each Port is configured as a VLAN on the switch. Speed and Duplex is auto on router and switch still one port turns orange after few minutes. Loss of connectivity when port is turn orange. UTP cable is changed but still we got issue. Loss of connectivity is for 30 seconds then link is solid green for next 7 - 10 mins and back again orange (time out)
I have an issue with a loss of connectivity after 10-15 seconds. I have a Cisco WLC 2504 controlling a Cisco 1242AG AP. The following is the topology.
Wireless Client -> 1242AG (AP) -> Port 3 WLC 2504 -> Port 1 WLC 2504 goes to fa0/2 on 3560. Port fa0/1 goes to ASA5505 (Inside)
All devices are on VLAN 10 10.50.1.0/24. AP is getting DHCP just fine and is associating with the WLC just fine. I connect my laptop to it and it connects just fine.
I then ping the gateway (ASA) 10.50.1.1 or the layer 3 interface on the switch 10.50.1.7 and it is fine for about 10 seconds, then it just dies then comes back in a few minutes and then goes away again. I have looked for duplicate IP's and can find none in any arp table.
It I just ping the controller 10.50.1.20 it is completely stable. I have moved the WLC directly off the ASA5505, moved the switch port, changed cables and the problem follows. I have even moved the AP to be directly off the switch instead of the WLC and the problem still occurs.
Intermittent loss of connectivity in two level router network.Static ip address from DSL modem into WAN port of linksys wrt4g, LAN port to WAN port of dlink dir-615. All pcs, printers ans a NAS connected to the lan side of dir-615 using 16 port splitter box. Wifi set up on both routers. Router 1 is 'public' to the building, router 2 is private to the non profit org. Inermittent(1 or 2 times a week) loss of connectivity to the network and to internet.
Connectivity has been intermittent the last few months and now none at all. Laptop can see the router but can't connect. Tried connecting via hard-wire to the router but no connectivity 2) tried downloading a driver update but resulted in a message saying "software can't be installed hardware doesn't exist". Check of the adapter through the device manager shows "device is working properly". Have two other dells on the same router and neither have any connectivity issues.
Randomly when I try to access to 2950 from management tools, switch is unreachable, I have to access from other switch and reload 2950.
Problem only is from managemt tool to managament vlan 1 2950.
The strange thing is that management interface is encountering a very fast increase of throttles, broadcast and ignored packets:
2950#show interfaces vlan 1 Vlan1 is up, line protocol is up Hardware is CPU Interface, address is 0023.3488.fd65 (bia 0023.3488.fd65) Internet address is xxxxxxxxxx MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1000000 Kbit, DLY 10 usec, reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255
[code]....
It could be a hardware problem?, IOS has been upgraded.
My WMP600N has been giving me some trouble. It randomly, meaning I have been unable to predict the loss in connectivity, drops all wireless connectivity. During one of these blackouts, the device registers as functioning correctly in the device manager. Installation went fine when I bought it last month.I have only noticed this rude interruption during a game of Rift, probably because its impacted so heavily by the interruption.
Further detail:
- The wireless icon continues to display during the loss of connectivity.
- I have another compute and a smart phone which remain connected during the loss of connectivity.
- The duration of the loss of connectivity is approximately 25-30 seconds.
As I continue to have various issues with my revision A version of the DIR-825, does an updated firmware is in the works? Or has revision A been DE-supported by Dlink?
I'm still having issues with: Share port printer no longer being recognized/usable until router rebootedLoss/overload of router which causes all clients (wired and wireless) to loss connectivity Router rebooting itself periodically

We are currently using a RV042 that has been very stable. We have 15 people that access their office desktop by forwarding RDP ports. Those plus all the other forwards that we need for services and we are hitting the 30 forward cap on the RV042.
I'm looking for a dual WAN router/firewall that supports more than 30 port forwards. I run pfsense on an Alix 2d3 at home so that is an option, but I'd like to stick with something pre-built.
I tried to upgrade the firmware of my RV042 router. I downloaded the file (RV0XX-v4.0.0.07-tm-20100819-code.bin) and check the cheksum. When I try to upload it, I have the message "413 Request Entity Too Large". How can I do ? Should I unzip the .bin file (it's about 30Mo) ?
We have about 200 sites connected to us via GRE tunnels over IPSEC over MPLS for primary connectivity, and GRE over IPSEC over the Internet for backup, and EIGRP routing handling the failover.
Most of them are 2811HSEC/K9's, and they're working great. We've recently discovered issues with a couple of clients. They run fine over their primary GRE over IPSEC connection, but when they failover to backup we're losing certain packets (details will follow).
What we found is that they're all on either 1941's or 2911's, and are running 15.0Mx IOS with advanced IP services. The rest of our clients are on 12.4T train, and none of them have any problems. We suspect it is an issue with the 15.x IOS.
Specifically, we're seeing two packets consistently lost. The first is a TCP 'SYN-ACK' from a telnet server, and the second is a UDP SIP REGISTER OK message. Both packets are quite small (well under 500 bytes), so I don't suspect an MTU issue. Packet captures both show that they're being encrypted and sent by the head-end, but are lost before they reach the decrypted tunnel interface. So either they're being lost in the path across the Internet, or the decryption is failing.
We see larger packets get through just fine, and other connections work great. We've opened a ticket with TAC.
Since these routers can't be downgraded to 12.4, our current plans are to ship a 2811HSEC bundle with an identical configuration to these clients to see if we can verify that it's a 15.0 issue, but I'm curious if anybody's seen anything similar, or if somebody who's more familiar than I am with bug tracker can find anything.
I have a Cisco WRVS4400N Gigabit Router. I recently upgraded my Internet service to 50MB download speed. When I connect directly to the cable modem and run a speed test, using speedtest.net, I get 59MB download speed consistently. When I connect the modem to the router and plug into one of the 4 ports the speed is cut in less than half. The max speed is cut to between 23-24 MB download speeds. I have tried this via wireless as well with the same result.
I am having issues where different laptops are dropping packets when communicating to the WAP on the RV220W. I have placed 3 laptops directly next to the router so there is no chance for walls to interfere. From each machine 1 at a time I perform a continuous ping. Here is a quick output from one of them:
Reply from 192.168.0.1: bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=64 Reply from 192.168.0.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=64 Reply from 192.168.0.1: bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=64
I have RV042 and E4200 routers . I tried the manual UPnP port forwarding using Rv042 router and was succesful ( by typing 192.168.1.1 in the explorer and logged in using user name and password )
I am using a linux embedded system whose Internal IP ,Internal port are mapped .This system is connected to one of the LAN ports
I want to try auto UPnP port forwarding both for RV042 router and Linksys E4200 routers
After enabling the Upnp option only and logging out ,Can i add a port mapping entry in this router without logging in using a C++ program which runs on linux embedded system .
I was looking for a small business router that has VPN support and dual WAN support for load balancing. Upon reading reviews, I think RV042/RV042G is a good choice. Now am thinking if it supports intervlan/ router-on-a-stick configuration?
I have a DB750N Router (Model F9K1103V1) that upon initial set-up was able to see both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. I then added a Range Extender (Model F9K1106v1 and was able to see both bands for a short period. Both the Router and the Extender have the latest firmware upgrades installed. I can no longer see the 5GHz band and have been unsuccessful at attempts to get it to appear on devices connected to my wireless network.
We currently have 2 6509s with redundant Sup720-3b's and PFC3B daughter cards which are connected together over dark fibre using the Gb fibre connectivity built into the supervisors.
The requirement is to upgrade this connection to 10Gb as inexpensively as possible.
Do I need to purchase new supervisors in order to do this properly or can I use a separate 10Gbe module (we have a spare slot), i.e. can I get away without using the connectivity built into the supervisors?
The other idea I had was putting a couple of 3750-X switches at each end to sit in front of the 6509s and provide the 10Gb connectivity between sites. I could then use the existing Gb uplinks on the supervisors whilst also providing connectivity for some devices that currently connect to the 6509s but could just as well connect here.
Recent incountered an issue with our elastix pbx and packet loss. Noticed this morning that when I turn on the firewall on our RV082, packet loss begins around the level 3 servers I see in my traceroute, and then slow spread out to all hops. When I turn the firewall back off, all hops have no packet loss or less than 1%. The weird part is, previously, I had the firewall enabled, and never had this issue.
Our clients claims the problem of loss startup configuration with power outage especially with 877 series , all the router are configured to store configuration in NVRAM ( confreg = 0x2101),
I have a RV220W with the latest firmware (1.0.2.4) and I loose about one in every 20-40 packets.
I have tried with both wireless/wired, on different ports, laptops, and Ethernet cables.
My configuration is fairly simple:
1.) I reconfigured the default subnet
2.) I setup a WAP on the same vlan (VLAN1)
3.) I setup a WAP on Vlan2 for guests
Other than that, settings are out of box (save a hostname/etc).
just purchased it, and am thinking I'll have to phone Cisco for RMA.... There is a similar thread where people noticed this on wireless (not sure if they tried wired as I have). RV220W Packet Loss over wireless
Lately I encountered random Internet connection issues? My router is a Netgear Wireless ADSL Firewall Modem Router DG834 (Firmware V1.05.0) and my ISP, isn't the most reliable regarding bandwidth... All clients (max 3 at the same time) connect wireless. The problem is that the last few weeks my connections is very unstable, all clients lose the internet connection until you restart the router manually.I can't even connect to the webinterface (192.168.0.1), during the downtimes.
I connected the DSL (WAN1-Internet) port in and the Cisco RV042 was able to get an IP automatically. I tested the connection and it works just fine. Then I connect the Cable Modem-Comcast (WAN2-DMZ/Internet Port) in and I have the RV042 automatically optain IP address. But it just says 0.0.0.0. I've tried release/renew and that does nothing. Also, when I connect the 2nd Internet connection the Internet goes down. The only way it goes back up is when I disable under the PORT MANAGMENT setting.
All the settings have been kept to the default. How can I get the router to obtain an IP address from the Cable Modem-Comcast (WAN2 DMZ/Internet Port).
We have an Cisco RV042. We need to setup a VPN with a business partner who is already using our current IP scheme on another VPN with another client. They have asked us to NAT our IP's from 192.168.25.x to 192.168.245.x
I can't seem to figure this out on this router. I have done it on a Sonicwall and Watchguard, but can't seem to get it to work on the RV042.
I have setup the VPN and the One-To-One NAT. The tunnel will connect (using the 245.x IP as our local IP on the VPN setup), but no traffic will pass through.
i was planed to make a vpn over rv042 so i get the rv042 connected behind a thosmon 456(configured as a bridge) and 1 static ip ... and i configured the vpn and worked great ...but due to some circumstance i get a package of 6 ips insted of the old ip , so when i try to configure the router with the ISP they but the wan ip 10.232.x.x and told me that an internal ip from there lan ... and give me the 6 ip of 196.x.x.x to use as 1 for internal interface for the rv042 and 5 for the pc's,now the vpn not working anymore...notice: when try to configure the vpn tunnle in the local securty setting i mark the ip only and the ip that abear is the wan ip 10.232.x.x but i can't ping that ip beside i can ping the internal ip of the router 196.x.x.50does rv042 can support static and virtual ip inside the lan |! can i configure the thomson as pppoe and use one static ip from 196.x.x.x as wan ip for it ... and use anther 196.x.x.x ip for the rv042 to get access from outside and connect the lan to the rv042 with internal ip 192.168.x.x ...so i can access the vpn from outside .....and can connect the device i need to use static ip to the thomson ...
