I'm about to upgrading our RV042 to RV042G since everything in the Network ist ready for Gigabit except the RV042
I think it's important to mention that another RV042, which is at a 2nd location, will remain for the VPN connection between the two locations. (Older Hardware are used at the 2nd location).
My Question is, are there any known issues, which should be cleared before changing the router.
Mainly issues with configuration migration and compatibility between RV042 and RV042G VPN connections.
I was looking for a small business router that has VPN support and dual WAN support for load balancing. Upon reading reviews, I think RV042/RV042G is a good choice. Now am thinking if it supports intervlan/ router-on-a-stick configuration?
I just bought RV042G with serial number NKS16120688 to replace old RV042 which is cannot upgrade to new version firmware(from above V.4).After I connect to my TOT isp modem to new rv042g, the router distributes ip (DHCP), get dns from isp normally but it cannot connect the internet at all.It seems this new firmware is not compatible with tot isp in Thailand while old rv042 with old firmware can run smoothly.I have to try many things such as change wan port, change modem and also buy another new RV016, but results still the same.
I have the a problem, when I do a upgrade of a SMB RV042 and the PC that contain the upgrade file is in the same segment of the RV042 the upgrades is succesfull, but when the PC is in another subnet, upgrade fails. There are conectivity betwen the two subnets and there are not a firewall.
After upgrading an RV042 from 1.3.12.19 to 1.3.13.02, it loses connectivity after several hours. RV042 WAN1 is connected to cable modem (WAN2/DMZ is unused), configured to obtain IP Address.
Cold booting all devices, RV042, AP & Cable modem, re-established connectivity. Only to lose connectivity again several hours later.
Reset RV042 to factory default via reset switch and cleared log. Minimal configuration applied (domain name, hostname, ntp, WAN1 bw=8000).
Checked early this morning and no connectivity. Summary screen showed the same IP on WAN1 port. All appeared normal. Clicked renew, and connectivity was re-established. Same IP as before.
The RV042, when running 1.3.12.19, would run for many months without a hiccup.
This is the log entry when I clicked 'renew':
Aug 18 04:12:40 2011 System Log DHCP lease info: ip[68.202.x.x] mask[255.255.240.0] gw[68.202.x.x]
[Code].....
Clicking 'renew' did re-establish connectivity, but I'm not sure if it's a dhcp issue or not. If I read the log entry correctly, the router has the IP lease for an hour, which means it renews several times successfully. Connectivity is down in the morning after several hours go by without use. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. Again, nothing changed but the code and the RV042 ran without problems for months with the 1.3.12.19 code.
Tried upgrading my firmware to 4.0.2.08-tm and now I cannot log in via the web interface. The router boots and gets out to the internet. It still allows incoming vpn connections. The login screen displays and will display an error message if I use incorrect credentials, but if I log in properly and am directed to the routers web config homepage at "192.168.1.1/default.htm", I get a 404 error message. Telnet does not work either (not sure if it's on, never used it before) 404 Not FoundThe requested server-side-includes filename, /usr/local/EasyAccess/www/htdocs/default.htm, does not seem to exist. As if the web pages after the login screen got removed or corrupted after the update.
SN is NKS10403247
I realize there is a newer version. Attempted the upgrade incrementally since I could not find documentation specifiying if that was required or not.
I have a problem with a brand new RV042 v3 hardware,I upgraded the firmware from 4.1 to 4.2 and now can not see the web interface in firefox, the login appears and the left menu appears, but at the right nothing is shown
I tried doing the firmware rescue util but the same problem happens.if this a know issue? Should I RMA it?
After upgrading the firmware on my RV042 router to version 1.3.13.02-tm, I am experiencing very slow Internet response on most sites. In some instances, when the page does load, it lacks many graphics. Frequently, I also receive a "server not found"error. In all cases, reloading the page (once it has loaded) results in a complete page display. This is occuring on two MacBook Pros and also on an iPad. The router is a version 1, so no further upgrades are available. I contacted support, but since it is out of warranty, they are unwilling to assist. Prior to the upgrade, everything worked fine, as it has for 5 years.
We have a CISCO RV042. We are about to begin a VIOP service with Vocalocity who state:
The RV042 is a wired router that requires no configuration adjustments for the firmware versions we tested. Version 1 and 2 are compatible. Version 3 is NOT. Firmware Reviewed: 1.3.12.6 | 1.3.12.19
Our router's firmware is : 1.3.8.2 (Feb 12 2007 10:43:08)
Can we upgrade to 1.3.12.6 or 1.3.12.19? What is meant by Version 1, 2 and 3?
I attempted a firmware upgrade on my RV042. After an hour, the upgrade was still in progress. I now cannot login into the router using my user name and password (nor the old admin/admin). The router is functioning, but I fear it will eventually fail. How can I recover ability to log in? The Firmward Recovery program doesn't seem to be appropriate for this situation.
my router (RV042G V01 Firmware Version : v4.2.1.02 ) get errors I can't understand.Lost connection, can't get a new IP, DNS does not work, total hangup. After a short time / reset everything works fine up to the next error. In the Log I found the following interest entries:undefined Kernel undefined Kernel failed (1).undefined Kernel Message from server.
I purchased RV042G and setup one-to-one NAT problem to several servers. ometimes the NAT servers lost the internet connection. My case as below
ISP provide two set Public IP Address , one modem e.g. set one) 100.100.1.2-6, gateway 100.100.1.1 set two) 200.200.2.2-6, gateway 200.200.2.1
[code]....
All computers and servers (one-to-one NAT) outbound and inbound all work fine. After several hours, only the servers (one-to-one NAT) alert internet connection broken, but the computers (non NAT) still have internet connection.
What's the problem occurs? Why only one-to-one NAT servers lost the connection? and Why only serveral hours later, the server lost the internet connection.
If I changed the WAN setting to same as subnet of the one-to-one NAT, it doesn't occur any problem.
I run my business network on the 192.168.x.x range with a server set as 192.168.2.4 statically. The router is currently connecetd to two DCHP wan connections from my ISP, I'm on a residential consumer plan. It has defaulted to loadblanacing with the second WAN however I want to have the second wan's public IP be used by my server and only the server however I wish for the server to still be on the lan so I can use HYPER-V's brided network connection feature to run VMs on the lan, and I would like their wan connection to be from wan 1... as for the entire lan except the server at 192.168.2.4 Is this possible, I can't seem to get the 1-to-1 NAT to do it?
I've setup the RV042G with one ISP connection for now.I have my main PC running fine, but I have another PC hard lined to the router that had a connection after I power cycled the modem and router but now it no longer does. disabled the network on that PC, now I can't get it back at all.I have a wireless e2000 in one of the ports that I disabled the DCHP on and it seems to be running nicely.before I disabled the PC in question, aka port 3, it was showing as connected in the "192...." but now only as enabled.
I have an issue with routing public IPs on the RV042G. I have been able to route the IP's in a couple of different ways, but there is always a nagging problem.
I have a PPPoE Business Class account with 5 routable public IP's. I would like to route the IPs and manage the private network using the RV042G.
Here is what I have tried and the problem that arose: 1) I used 1:1 NAT and the servers responded with no issue. This would be a workable config however I use Kerberos for single sign-on for my clients. To use this security protocol and bind the clients to the server, I must use a public IP on the server machines. In this scenario however, everything else worked fine. 2) I then tried using the DMZ and putting the servers on the DMZ port with a public IP entered in the network config of the machine. That even worked fine and I was excited until I noticed that the servers were reporting the public IP assigned to the DMZ port as their IP when they sent mail. I then ran a test and that is the case. The servers - each with a public IP - are reporting the IP of the DMZ port. I can't have that because the mail servers need to announce a correct IP so the reverse lookup will match. Once again, a little gnat gets in the soup.
Have a rv042g, newest firmware, trying to setup one to one nat on the configs page, I select enable, enter private ip , enter public ip, enter the range, and click "add to list" and nothing.... no error message, doesn't add to the list below it
I have RV042G dual WAN VPN router as a gateway in my small office. My ISP requires from me to connect through PPTP VPN to have access to the network. I've configured my router with static IP and every time I connect a laptop or desktop pc I need to connect to the VPN with the Windows VPN client.
We have recently purchased a brand new RV042G VPN router, set it up, and had it running for a while without issues.
Now that we are actually trying to use the VPN functionality, the router becomes unstable after a while, showing "out of memory" lines in the logs, and after a day or two the VPN stops working completely and the web interface becomes completely inaccessible.
This issue happens when using any sort of VPN that's supported by the router.
I have created a protocol binding rule and even a bandwidth rule to make sure outgoing FTP needs to go through WAN2 interface. But it still goes through WAN1, it only works when I disconnect WAN1
I have a problem with the RV042G V01 router manufactured 12/2012.
After router settings the router works fine without any problems. After 10 or 12 hours I got the message that the side could not be opened, while no DNS. I checked inside the router and all settings looks ok DNS adresses from ISP are present on both WAN settings . When I use inside the router the funktion for DNS it will work but from any client is does not work. When I restart the router alls works fine. After few hours ( it's differnt 1,2 or 6 ) I have the same problem. No entry in the log's !
Recently setting up a RV042G for my SOHO. Everything seems to be fine except for SSL port forwarding. I know the router's external static IP is reachable because I test it out with remote management functionality from an external IP. Port forwarding also works correctly because I have other behind the router servers in both UDP and TCP working flawlessly. PPTP VPN also works corrrectly. What I can't get it to run is an Apache server. Looks to me RV042G kind of drop all SSL or HTTP ports from the WAN side.
Configuration:
- 4 port forward rule under "Setup/forwarding" for 80/8080/443 and 8443 all to the webserver with a static IP.
- Firewall page I have Firewall, SPI, DoS enabled.
- Added a firewall rules to allow all HTTP and HTTPS traffic from WAN1 to the webserver static IP.
- Toggle Block WAN Request, HTTPS and multicast does not affect the result.
- Toggle and mapping the remote management port to other port beside 443 does not affect the result.
The same setup will works corretly under my old Netgear FVS router. Am I missing something in RV042G setup?
I just got the RV042G today. I found the router can only accept 100000 Kbit/sec as bandwith, which is 100Mps only. According to the specification, it should have 1000Mps WAN. I have a internet link of 1000Mps, which is now limited by this router.
I'm trying to make an attached topology. This router should be attached to 2 different ISPs on both WAN interfaces (ISP1 with IP address - A.B.C.D, and ISP2 with IP W.X.Y.Z) and I want to use DMZ, too. My idea is to make a L2/L3 segmentation with 2 VLANs - Vlan RED for DMZ (private network 192.168.1.0/24) and vlan BLUE for Internal network (network 192.168.2.0/24). I checked in the manual that vlans are supported, but I can't see anything about 802.1q, can I use one trunk port or I should use 2 physical cables?
There should be inter-vlan routing and basic stateful firewall, so PCs in Vlan Blue should be able to initiate connections to DMZ servers, but the opposite should be denied. Router should make a port forwarding on its both WAN interfaces and forward incomming traffic (from Internet) to DMZ servers (with NAT). Both DMZ servers and internal PCs should have an internet access with NAT over both WAN uplinks.
Can I use RV042G for this setup and if not at all - are there any cisco SMB device which can do this?
i got a problem in configuring a VPN Connection for our Colleagues (Laptops & Iphones 4/4S/5) We got an RV042G .
A WAN Connection from Deutsche Telekom AG with Static IP connected in WAN1. Configured for PPPoE. Ive got configured a Port Forwarding on our SBS 2011 Server for OWA and other Services on web. I´ve got extreme Problems configuring VPN Connections. We use Quick VPN, other tools got to much buttons to click .
1st i configured a Group VPN , with FQDN (Remote Group) Local Group (IP only) . i configured 2 users. Then on a Laptop connected to the internet through an Hotspot Connection of an Iphone.
I entered the WAN IP .. Username. Password. Pressed ENTER. I get to the point of Verifyiing Network, and after it timeout with Remote Gateway not responding. Do you want to wait. If i Press Yes, after max. 1 minute there comes the message again.
I looked in the VPN Summary, and i see, that my username was connected through VPN for seconds, but then disconnected. Do i have overseen an option to configure??
We are connecting to a Cisco DPC3825 cable modem supplied by our ISP. It has been configured to act as a switch only. They have supplied us with 2 static IP addresses.
When each WAN port is connected individually, everything is fine. I see the IP addresses on the respective WAN port, and it is working fine.
When I connect both WAN ports to the modem at the same time, I see a large amount of traffic between the WAN ports, as indicated by the port LEDs, and the RV042G becomes completely non-responsive through its web interface.
How do I get the RV042G working with both WAN ports connected?
I'm trying to set up a single web server in a DMZ using the RV042G and the docs seem woefully inadequate to explain how this is accomplished.
I've attach a picture of my setup..
I'm assigned a single Public IP.. in the example I've used 172.16.5.22 and so I've set the WAN interface for static IP.
The DMZ port is not obvious how to set up.. So I've chosen to define a private subnet and throw the web server in there. As I activate the DMZ, I specify a "subnet" and its address as 10.10.10.1, which I'm assuming goes to the DMZ/WAN port. I assign my webserver the address 10.10.10.3.
I leave the Access rules in their default condition.
I am a little unsure as to how to setup the static IP info for the web server.
Gateway: 10.10.10.1 ? DNS: 10.10.10.1? or 172.16.5.1?
Problem #1 ========= My first problem is that the webserver cannot access the Internet. I get a timeout when I open the browser. I've tried every address there as the gateway and DNS..
Problem #2 ======== If a person on the WAN side is attempting to connect to 172.16.5.22:80, how does the RV042G know to send it to the 10.10.10.3 device? It doesn't know what address the webserver is assigned; I just gave it a 10.10.10.1 address as the subnet address.
I think I'm missing something, conceptually here.
Can, in fact, you use the RV042G in this fashion with only a single public IP address? There is almost no information on how the router actually routes traffic when you choose either 'subnet' or 'range' (where the DMZ is in the same subnet as the WAN)
We looking into options for using VPN to allow users to work from home at our company. We already run Windows Active Directory and have a Cisco RV042G router. We would like to set up a VPN that will authenicate user through AD. Is this possible with the RV042G?
We have just setup a new RV042G firewall. The customer has multiple public IP addresses and we need to allow RDP access for at least 2 of the Public IP addresses. I only see a way to open ports for the one IP assisgned to the WAN. I temporarily did a one to one NAT for the second public IP to NAT to the private IP but that pretty much opens everything which is not ideal from a security standpoint. How can we setup multiple IP addresses on this firewall?
I have made a firewall rule that accepts FTP from WAN2 outside to the inside private LAN with IP address specified. But this didn't work. When I added in the forward rules that FTP had to be forwarded to this IP address it worked.I have done some testing but it seems that the firewall rules do not have any priority on the forward rule.If I disable the forward rule i cannot connect with ftp even with a firewall rule made.
Is there documentation on setting the RV042G to Router Mode and what that changes to it's topography? The manual simply tells us to click the button to change the mode?!?!? A 4th grader could figure that out - but what does it do to the unit? Does it basically become a glorified switch with an internet connection? Can the 2nd WAN port be used as a switch node?
We are looking to possibly purchase 2 RV042G routers. The main goal is to tie 2 sites together (via the internet) utilizing the site-to-site VPN feature.
Here is where it gets a little tricky. Since this device has 2 WAN ports, is it possible to assign a seperate IP address for each from our ISP? Then, what we would like to do is assign a couple LAN ports to have the traffic flow through WAN1 and the other LAN ports to flow through WAN2. The LAN addressing can be on the same subnet or seperate.
