Cisco :: STP Blocking And Listening Modes

Oct 8, 2012

Sometimes when I enable a switchport I see the port goes to Blocking mode first, not sure if it stays in that mode for the 20 secs, I think sometimes is far less than 20 sec. But I have seen too, that when I enable a port it goes directly to Listening mode. When does a switchport goes to the Blocking mode first, mode that all the books I have read say it should go when you enable a port, and when it goes to Listening mode directly?

Cisco Wireless :: WAP4410 Acting As Repeating - Missing Modes

Jan 22, 2012

Currently I have an almost pure N environment, with the exception of 1 printer. My primary router is a WRVS400N v2, and the WAP 4410N is acting as a repeater.  On the WRVS400N I have the option og g/n Mixed (which is what I use), but this option is not available to me with the WAP4410N.It seems like the WAP4410N is taking an all or nothing approach, as each speed is idividually available, or ALL speeds are available. What I would like to know is if this oversight will be resolved in a fufute firmware release so I can have both devices configured equally?

Cisco WAN :: Router Listening On Public Interface Rv042

Aug 28, 2011

I have two Windows Boxes connected to RV042 ; each has its own static IP assigned to it and each runs bunch of virtual machines , for which I had configured port forwarding .My hosting company claims that my server(s) are listening on IP 192.168.0.1 on a public interface (i.e., one that uplinks to their network). They see this same IP on two different MACs my uplink interface.  I am not really sure how it is possible since 192.168.0.1 was assigned to router itself.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 Appears To Be Listening On All TCP Ports?

Aug 7, 2011

When I do an NMAP scan against my ASA 5505 on it's internal interface's IP address, it appears to be listening on all TCP ports.  If I do it from across a VPN tunnel, the ports show as open according to NMAP, if I do the scan from the local subnet they show up as unknown. I'm running 8.0.4 code on this ASA.

Cisco :: Spanning-tree Every Port Go Into Listening / Learning State

Apr 4, 2012

Ages ago I was shadowing someone making a change on the network. I cannot remember which spanning tree version was running and cannot remember the config of any port either. What I do remember is that every switch port on the 2960 switch went orange and an outage occured, where the ports went into listening / learning mode. I assume that the STP was just the default ieee 802.1D.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: UDP Port 10000 And IPv6 Ports Listening

Aug 30, 2012

I've several production Catalyst switches that are listening on the same IPv4 and IPv6 ports. The problem is I don't want the switches listening on the IPv6 ports.[code] How to shut down these listening ports?I also have a few production switches listening on UDP/10000 and I cannot determine why this port is listening. [code] I've seen where UDP/10000 is Network Data Management Protocol and is related to Storage networks ###, but I've also seen where UDP/10000 is the default port for IPSEC data.I don't believe UDP/10000 is related to either NDMP or IPSEC data, though I could be very wrong.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: SG300-10 See All Traffic From All Connected Devices On Any Port / Where To Connect Listening Device

Dec 20, 2012

In my LAN environment, I'm using two cisco SG300-10 switches. Both switches are connected by GE10 on both switches, where both ports are set to trunk. Now on all ports 1-9 on both switches, I'm having client computers attached. So I set ports 1-9 to "access" mode. All interfaces on any switch is left in default vlan.

Is it normal that I see all traffic from all connected devices on any port where I connect a listening device? What I'd like to achieve is, that only traffic that is meant for a specific workstation is actually forwarded to this workstation. By now it seems that I get all the traffic from everybody.

Cisco VPN :: ASA 5515 With 8.6 - Blocking VPN

Jan 29, 2013

We just upgraded our ASA here at work to a new ASA5515-x with 8.6 (used to have a ASA5510). We used the VPN wizard to create a generic VPN Profile and Group. The profile works with split tunneling just fine from outside our network. But when I go home, I have an ASA5505 with 8.4. When i connect to work using the VPN Client on windows, it connects and gets the appropriate IP but i am not able to get to anything on our work network. When i try and connect using the built-in client on Mac OS X (10.5, 10.6, 10.7 or 10.8) using IP Sec, it comes back and says "Remote server did not respond". If i look at my console on the Mac, it shows it connected, built the first tunnel, then it sits. if i watch the logs on our 5515, it shows the same. But it will not authenticate the local user past the group. The Cisco VPN Client on the mac wont even attempt to connect, it just flashes connecting to x.x.x.x and disconnects about a second later.

Is there a setting that i am missing on my 5505 to allow VPN out? Is there a setting were missing on our 5515 that might not be allowing the VPN clients to connect from certain networks?

1 PC Blocking 2 Others In Wireless Network?

Nov 16, 2011

I'm posting this before running the pre-submission checks. When I tried to install the Wireless Network checking software you recommend I was told I needed to have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed first.

I have 2 PCs and a laptop connected to my home wireless network. They're all running XP. My ISP in the UK is PlusNet and I have a DSL connection (I think).

Two days ago, my pc stopped connecting to the internet - no internet pages would load (*see below) and no email would transfer. I tried the other PC and the laptop and they had the same problem. However, when I switched off the first pc, the other two started working fine. Very strange - it was as if the first pc was blocking the other two. I checked the malfunctioning pc to see if there was sone lardge data transfer taking place that was eating up all the bandwidth, but I couldn't find anything going on and the lights on the modem weren't flashing.

I've tried reloading the drivers for my wireless adapter and have even tried using the adpater off the other pc, but I'm still getting the same behaviour.

*Tonight I've noticed that my homepage, Google, does load and I can search on it. But if I try to load any of the result links, I'm getting no reaction.

I'm running FProt virus checking (no viruses detected on the last scan - but it won't be right up to date because of the connection issues), Windows firwall and SpyBot Blaster.

Cisco :: Firewall Blocking Users From Connecting From Outside?

Oct 5, 2012

I set up a cisco 2811 to replace a netgear router at the office. I have nat set up and with ccp I added a firewall on the router using the basic firewall wizard. Just about everything works internet, receiving and sending emails on exchange from the pc. Issue I'm having noone can access the company email on their phone. Also theres a camera system that would be accessible to view from the live feed from outside the office and my boss can't access the camera. I port mapped all the custom applications and added new traffic rule from self -> outzone. It didn't work tried to add one from outzone -> self or inzone but i get a prompt stating it only accepts protocols tcp, udp, sip, h323, icmp and a few other I can't think of. I'm pulling out my hair trying to get this to work everything worked seamlessly on the netgear router and nothing was really defined just the inbound ip address of the applications and protocols that are allowed.

Lets say for reference purposes my ip addresses for internet is

internet
55.34.23.43 /24
email server
192.168.10.252 /24
web cam application
192.168.10.10 /24
8000 in
8001 out
