I recently purchased a cisco 300 series 10 port managed switch and a synology 1511+ diskstation. When trying to bond the 2 ethenet ports into link aggregation mode on the diskstation, i am recieveing an error that's "failing to establish IEEE 802.3ad connection".
From what i understand, the switch should allow this by defealt, but i am unable to determine why it's not allowing it.
Is IEEE 802.1v supported by some Cisco SMB switch ? Which model ?

I have try with some older switches but it doesn't works properly on everyone. I just purchased a wireless PCI Adapter and I cannot seem to get it to work. The box states it is an Excel IEEE 802.11g Wireless PCI Adapter. I have inserted it into the appropriate slot and when I start up Windows the device driver states that it has not installed correctly.The device driver is: Marvell Libertas 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Client Adapter. On my device manager list it has an error tag and when opened it comes up with the following message:This device cannot start (Code 10)I have tried to update the device, but I still get this error message and I have attempted to download new drivers off the internet but am unsure about what I am doing.

The source data will be fed into a port on a Cisco 2960G switch then, using the monitor function, be forwarded to multiple interfaces. This works fine for normal Etherent II traffic. We tried a test using a device that generates IEEE 802.3 Raw packets ('type' field is used as a 'length' field) but found that while the traffic appeared to be accepted by the input port with no errors it was not forwarded to the destination ports, even when using the monitor function. I did try the 'encapsulation replicate' feature with no luck. It does not forward these packets even if I set all the ports into a common VLAN and let the switch just perform a normal switch function (non monitor).
if it is possible to get the IEEE 802.3 raw packets to pass through the switch and if it is, how to or what I need to do to make it work?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe’ve just begun the transition from our old 3Com switches to new Cisco switches and we’ve encountered interoperability problems as we start the transition.Goal: Extend 6 VLANs (each representing an IP subnet) via fiber from a port on the 3Com 5500G-EI to a port on the Cisco SG-300-52
We assign an IPV4 address to the Cisco SG-300-52. We can successfully ping/web-manage at this address if we do a temporary copper jumper from a 3Com switch to the Cisco. IP address is in the subnet assigned to VLAN7•2) At the 3Com side, the fiber port is set as “hybrid” and is passing VLAN 1 untagged; VLANs 3-8 tagged•3) At the Cisco side, the fiber port is set as “trunk” and is defined with VLAN 1 untagged and VLANs 3-8 tagged.
If I try to change the management interface on the CISCO from VLAN 1 to VLAN 7 (as I would on the 3Com), I lose connectivity over the temporary copper connection•B)
If I remove the temporary copper jumper from the Cisco (keeping the “working” management IP address) and create the fiber link between the 2 switches, I lose connectivity to the management IP , If I set the 3Com fiber port to “access” and make the fiber connection, I can ping the management interface – but of course, I can’t pass the other VLANs to untagged access ports on the Cisco – and it has the fun side benefit of messing with IP management settings on other 3Com switch stacks attached to the 5500G-EI. However, it does demonstrate that we can get network traffic communicating over the fiber link between the 2 switches.
How I can proceed to a) have the management IP address in the IP subnet defined on VLAN 7 while passing the other VLANs to access ports on the Cisco? BTW, I’m a networking neophyte (it’s a very small part of my job and I do it infrequently), so I prefer to use GUI management to CLI options, although I can perform CLI configuration if presented with the right commands.
I have to realize a connection between an 5508 WLC and 3750 switch using one SFP cable. I found on Cisco documentation some reference about two different SFP cables. The first one is CAB-SFP-50CM, but this is used to interconnect two 3560 switches. The second is SFP-H10GB-CU1M. This one has SFP+ transceivers on both ends which I don’t know if are compatible with the standard SFP ports that can be found both on WLC and switch.
My question is if I can use one of these cables in order to connect my devices, or if you know other one piece SFP cables.
The connection of the computer before is activating.. after how many days of using,it losses the internet connection.. what is the possible reason for this?

I have 3 PCs (win7-64) connected to a wired gigabit network to achieve fast transfer of large files. Separately, at a distance, I have a modem-router to access the Internet. Internet access for the 3 PCs is achieved with each PC connected wireless to the latter modem router. The 2 networks are running OK and PCs can connect each other on both networks. Question: How can I know and achieve that the gigabit network is used for file transfers and not the slower wireless network? How should configure both routers and PCs to achieve this? I don't need the wireless setup to be a network, just to provide wireless access for each PC and that's it. I used to have the gigabit LAN configured with a Dlink DAP1522 bridge that created a single wireless connection between this wired LAn and the modem-router but it stopped working and I'm pretty done with it.

The routor itself is connect to the internet and other laptops can connect when given the password. I tried to set it up on a different laptop and got the same result. I have reset the factory setting and tried again with the same result I connect to the routor but not the internet. If I reconnect my talktlalk routor there is no problem.

Company I work for just moved into a new location. We have two data closets which are patched as independent entities, with no Ethernet tie connection. These closets are roughly 100 feet apart.
There is a fiber connection that runs between both closets, that the previous tenant used to connect the switches. I have placed a Cisco 2960 switch in each location, and added one mini SFP gbic's to each switch. After attaching both sides, neither light up. I do a sh inter gig1/0/49 on each and shows 'down down' (not admin down).
What is the trick on getting these to communciate, do I need to configure these ports, and are they supposed to light up?
What I am trying to accomplish is to get the one closet that is completely cut off, communicating by logically stacking, or 'daisy chaining' via fiber.
I turned off the lights and popped the fiber out, and I do see a faint red light (I did not look straight into it), so I think the fiber is active.
First of all, is there a document on the SG300 that explains everything in plain english?Here is what I am trying to do...I have a Charter Communications connection to the internet through their modem.This modem has a static IP.I would like to make this internet connection the source for the SG300 and all the other ports be DHCP.I was told when I purchased it that being a layer 3 device.

The error goes away if the user reloads the page--sometimes they have to reload more than once. They never had this problem before.I thought it was due to the large number of 5-port desktop switches infesting the networks (I'm getting rid of them as fast as I can) but it happens even on a PC directly connected to one of the new GigE switches. It does not happen when accessing internal web pages. It looks like a DNS failure -- but nothing has changed in our DNS setup, except that users have a fatter pipe to our DNS servers.

The router seems to lose connection frequently. Is there a setting in the expander that will allow the expander to "follow" the DHCP address of the router without having to take it down and go thru the setup each time.

There is basic activity but nothing on the internet I have tried to use command line netsh to force DHCP on it says it is but I am getting a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 when everything else is 255.255.255.0 not sure if this matters as there are only 4 devices on the network.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor the past few months my internet connection will randomly drop for about 5-10 seconds when someone else connects to the network. I am using a wired Ethernet connection and as said when someone connects either via WiFi or also through a wired connection, the internet for me will drop as soon as the device is connected, and then randomly every 20 minutes or so thereafter. I should also mention that rarely the connection will just drop for again, 5-10 seconds even when nobody else is connected.I tried my computer at someone else's house using their router and it worked fine, no disconnects at all.
