I have done some testing through Wireshark and there are absolutely no reports / logs.We have some real issues with this switch and it’s hard to believe that this is a Cisco Product,

1. ESW performs as a server switch for out small cluster of VMWare ESXi Hosts and iSCSI SAN with a link-aggregation/lacp/etherchannel connection to the backbone switch, and a Link-Aggregated Connection to the thrid ESW switch via a multimode optic fibre link to a near-site backup and DR location
2. The second ESW acting as network backbone links back to the server switch and our older LinksysSRW224G4 (four SRW224G4s) switches using Aggregated Links / LACP to reduce bandwidth contention and allow for link redundancy
3. The third ESW as mentioned previously is at the backup DR location linked back to Switch 1
When using Single 1GB links between these three switches I can almost saturate the 1GB link (80-95% utilisation) as soon as link aggregation is configured by bonding 2x 1GB links together to form an etherchannel link utilisation will not exceed 100MB (network monitor graph on a server/ workstation runs flat at 10% utilisation) I have tested this multiple times useing large file transfers accross our SANs (which have high enough throughput to saturate links) and can confirm that performance degradation occurs as soon as an etherchannel is configured on the same ports (regardless of manually setting admin speed and duplex of copper ports etc) all indicators specify that ports are running at 1GB even though throughput REDUCES by 90%.
We are not running the latest firmware yet (2.0.3), however I have read the release notes for newer versions (2.1.16 and 2.1.19) and there is no indication of a fix for etherchannel/lacp performance issues.
My ADSL light switches off randomly during downloading a 100mb file. I just cannot complete the download. This has been happening ever since I switched my router to a wireless iBall Baton 150M.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOur network administrator restricts all our new 1Gb switches to only 100Mb, to which he claims it will increase overall performance. Preventing devices from bottlenecking the network. (that is, only restricting the main switch ports, not the uplinks)For example we have a new building with 2x WS-C2960S-48TS-L connected together with FlexJack and then a 1Gb Fiber connection back to our core switch.
This building is on it's own subnet and there is little broadcast traffic. I don't see the point other than it hinders the potential speed we could use. Labs are set up in this building and 1Gb is MUCH faster when it comes to imaging and software deployment.
I am trying to join a Cisco Catalyst 3560X-24T-L to an existing VTP domain, my question is what configurations should I do to this switch?I have already gave it a hostname, setup passwords, enabled telnet, created a management address on port g0/24.I would like it to be on VLAN 13, is this done from my server switch, or done on the new switch?

35 PoE phones with a switchport going to a workstation
8 PoE cameras
7 servers(2 NICs each with link aggregation)
Various racked network hardware
I currently have an Enterasys 10/100 48p PoE switch powering all of the PoE devices, but the switch is getting old and I'd like to start converting over to pure gigabit. There's also an HP Procurve 2810-48G that all of the servers and other racked network hardware are plugged into. That switch is fine, but doesn't have PoE, so its uses are limited to the rack.
Just a few other things to keep in mind... Whomever setup this network failed to separate the voice and data traffic into their own VLANs + QoS, so that needs to be done as well. Expandability is key as the company is growing at a rapid pace- Stacking is certainly desirable, but not an absolute requirement.
I'd like to keep the price point bellow $2000 if I can get a good product. Cisco would be cool, but the price point is way too high for the features that I need. Any great recommendations? Here's some that I've been looking at:

I assume I have done everything correctly but am not getting any speed increase when transferring files (in fact it has dropped a little) I currently get about 7.5mbps between my computer and my server. All are wired connections.I have the modem/router connected to the Gigabit switch and the switch is connected to my server and a PC. Slight complication is I use 200mb homeplugs to connect from the switch to the PC, the server is connected straight to the switch, also I am waiting on some cat6 cables I've orrdered I have no idea what I'm using...
for the best dollar spent what is the best 48 port gigabit switch i could buy for a home network?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Zyxell Modem/Router with 4 ethernet ports running 10/100, if i plug a gigabit switch in to this and then plug 3 PC's into the gigabit switch, (each PC has a gigabit NIC) will the router pull the network down to transfer all data at 100mbps or will the PC's continue to transfer at 1000mbps and only the connection from internet router will be at 100mbps.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo my old router needed replacement and my dad bought a Netgear gigabit ethernet switch instead of a router. It said that it gets 1Gbps when I look inside the local area connection speed. The problem was we tried to use it like a router but only 2 computers could connect to the internet at one time but it was indeed noticeably faster when it came to video streaming speed. We since returned it and bought a Netgear N600 router that says the speed is 300mbps but like my old router it shows the speed is actually 100mbps and the streaming is good for the most part but every now and then slows down. Would using the ethernet switch with our new router work with streaming speeds and connection stability and of course let more computers connect and also use the routers wireless.

There are no free ports on the router, but I want to connect additional computers to the network. If I get a gigabit switch and connect two of my PCs to it using gigabit cable, can they communicate at gigabit speeds, or will they be limited by the 100M connection back to the router? (In other words, does traffic between two computers on the switch have to be sent through the router, or not?)

Adding ports to my Fairpoint provided Westell 7500 Rev D DLS modem router which has only 4 RJ45 ports. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have setup an Asus RT n16 with 3 computers that support gigabit ethernet and a media server on one floor. On the other floor I have set up a fast ethernet switch (connected to my asus router) which is connected to several fast ethernet enabled computers.
Would the fast ethernet devices slow down the entire gigabit networking to 100mbps connections on my floor - similar to how a wireless n network running at 300mpbs must slow down to 54mbps when a wireless g device is connected to it?
The first part, is this even possible? Modem to switch.
Second part, e1200 router plugged into switch, handles DHCP for the switch.
Plug gigabit computers into the switch, non gigabit/wireless devices into the e1200 router.
If e1200 can't handle DHCP for the switch, could I configure a DHCP linux server directly to the switch?
I don't want to limit my network to my e1200 speeds when I have a gigabit capable modem and a gigabit capable switch.
I've been using WRT320N few days now and I am happy with it so far! It's not overheated as many people reported and performance is also great (wifi as well as gigabit ports). I tested all functions (NAT, Advanced Wireless Settings, Port Forwarding, Access Restrictions...) - all working great, but I am little stuck on the easiest one - configure it temporarily as regular gigabit switch with an IP address: I put my WAN cable and LAN cables in the 1-4 ethernet ports. NAT, DHCP and Firewall are disabled in the router. I have DHCP server in my network that is assigning IP addresses based on MAC address. In "Setup" > "Basic Setup" > "Router IP" I would like to set up automatic configuration - DHCP, but it is not possible, so I just type the same IP address that It should get from the DHCP server (in this case 10.109.249.42). Does all 1-4 ethernet ports have the same MAC address (in this case 00:25:9C:4D:16:86)? Everything is working fine, my computer's IP addresses are succesfully assigned (as well as wifi devices) from DHCP server in my network, but I feel like WRT320N's address is not assigned - the problem is I can't connect to router's administration under http://10.109.249.42. There is no IP restrictions for remote management.

I just installed 2 new units and neither will connect to a new HP gigabit switch - no link light, other devices can connect to the switch OK. Their gigabit ethernet settings are set to auto for duplex and speed. I also tried forcing one of them to full duplex and 1000 Mbps which didn't work either. They're both powered by POE injectors. If I connect them to a 10/100 switch they work fine.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just got a Cisco 2960G 24-port gigabit switch so that our HP servers can have a Gigabit connection to the network. I moved 2 servers to it (HP Proliant DL380's) but they don't actually seem to be able to achieve even close to 1000Gbps. I ran same some LAN bandwidth tests and it was showing only around 200-300 Mbps between all of them. I also ran a network stress test utility, LAN Tornado, and it was showing packet loss as high as 60% when on gigabit, and only .07% when on 100Mbps.
-Both the NIC's and the switch ports are set to 1000/Full
-Currently using Cat5e cabling no more than 25Ft in length (I know Cat6 would be better but Cat5e is supposed to support Gigabit)
-All servers are on the same VLAN
Here are the port statistics when running just a stress test @ 10Mbps that had a 45% packet loss. What's odd though is when I set the servers and switches to 100Mbps, I get less than 1% packet loss.

I have an Ethernet Loopback Plug (4 Pairs) made and trying to test the Gigabit Interface on a 3845 Router with a fail result. The interface will show up/up only if I set the interface to 100M/Full Duplex when I plug-in the Ethernet Loopback Plug (4 Pairs). I don't see this Gigabit Interface @ 3845 router has any option to set it to internal or external loopback.

I've looked at the Cisco SG2/300's, HP 1810g-24 and the Dell 2816 and 2824 switches, and it seems like the Cisco's are the best buy (layer 3'ish features, same price as the HP) but there isn't much about them.
My computer is not wireless so I have needed a wireless router from Time Warner. Directions tell me to connect to my computer. Will that solve the fact that my computer is not built in wireless?
