My ADSL light switches off randomly during downloading a 100mb file. I just cannot complete the download. This has been happening ever since I switched my router to a wireless iBall Baton 150M.
View 9 RepliesI am using my ADSL Internet Connection especially for downloading files those past few months.I have even purchased an account at filesonic.However,the speed remain the same except that there are no waiting period and I can download multiple files at the same time.What are the tips for increasing downloading time? I am now using the latest 5.0 Firefox and Windows 7 and using or not using the download them all add-ons does not add much to the download time.
What about the telephone line cable? The position of the beetel modem, does that play a role in speed limit? Are there some hardware equipment that can cause a subsequent increase in download speed?
I have a wire ADSL connection and I use ADSL WiFi enabled router for distribute my internet connection with in my other devices (on my home network). When I downloading large files (more than 30MB) over the internet using my WiFi connection, my connection drop several times. However if I exchange large files within my WiFi network (with in home network via WiFi), my WiFi connection not drop (I can exchange 6GB files without any issue). Why is that? Is it my router issue or my ADSL connection issue? Most of the time after I lost internet connection, i can see my WiFi connectivity standby, it's not disconnect. However some time it completely disconnect. After I lost the connection (standby or completely disconnected) it again automatically connect.
I face this issue if i download large files on the internet, via the WiFi, if i download large files on internet using Ethernet cable, my connection not drop, it's stable. I use default wireless settings on my router? I use open WiFi connection.
I have three ESW-540-24 10/100/1000 Switches in a small school environment
1. ESW performs as a server switch for out small cluster of VMWare ESXi Hosts and iSCSI SAN with a link-aggregation/lacp/etherchannel connection to the backbone switch, and a Link-Aggregated Connection to the thrid ESW switch via a multimode optic fibre link to a near-site backup and DR location
2. The second ESW acting as network backbone links back to the server switch and our older LinksysSRW224G4 (four SRW224G4s) switches using Aggregated Links / LACP to reduce bandwidth contention and allow for link redundancy
3. The third ESW as mentioned previously is at the backup DR location linked back to Switch 1
When using Single 1GB links between these three switches I can almost saturate the 1GB link (80-95% utilisation) as soon as link aggregation is configured by bonding 2x 1GB links together to form an etherchannel link utilisation will not exceed 100MB (network monitor graph on a server/ workstation runs flat at 10% utilisation) I have tested this multiple times useing large file transfers accross our SANs (which have high enough throughput to saturate links) and can confirm that performance degradation occurs as soon as an etherchannel is configured on the same ports (regardless of manually setting admin speed and duplex of copper ports etc) all indicators specify that ports are running at 1GB even though throughput REDUCES by 90%.
We are not running the latest firmware yet (2.0.3), however I have read the release notes for newer versions (2.1.16 and 2.1.19) and there is no indication of a fix for etherchannel/lacp performance issues.
I have been having a few problems with my IBM T42 Laptop for a while now. I was originally running Windows XP on this system and about 12 months ago I installed Ubuntu 9 on it to mess around a bit with the OS and have a basic, non-Microsoft laptop in the house that I could use for browing the web and IM, etc... The laptop needed a clean install anway as Windows XP was running like a dog. Originally it was dual boot but once I got happy with Ubuntu I did a clean install and everything worked reasonably well. I had a few issues with the wireless LAN adapter and compatibilty, but sorted it out following a few forums (firware updates, driver updates) and everything was great. I upgraded to the Ubuntu 10.04 OS and then started having some issues. Essentially my browser would freeze randomly. Again, I visted the forums and had no joy in sorting out the problem. I reverted the OS back to Ubuntu 9 and the problem persisted. So I gave up on it totally around 6 months ago.
Last week I fired up the laptop again and decided I would use the IBM restore utility and the disks I created a couple of years ago to put on a clean install of Windows XP and see how things went. So far I have done all the Windows XP updates (SP3, etc...), I have been to the Lenovo website and updated all drivers, firmware, BIOS, etc... every little problem I have had has been sorted with a software or firmware update which I have successfully implemented. All niggles have been sorted bar one.The only problem I have left now is very odd. Everything works fine and at reasonable speed considering the age and specs of my system. When I connect via cable to my router/modem all network and internet services work fine. I have had no issues. But when I connect via wireless, intermittently my system will completely freeze - no errors, no logs - nothing. No sounds, just frozen screen. Hard reboot is the only thing that I can do to get back online.Further investigating the issue - the freezing occurs when I click on a link to download something. I can browse anything - I have tried videos (youtube) and have no problems at all - but if I click to download a file (software upgrade pack, pdf document, Qucktime player) the system freezes up and ONLY when connected wirelessly via the inbuilt Cisco Wireless LAN adapter. Preventing devices from bottlenecking the network. (that is, only restricting the main switch ports, not the uplinks)For example we have a new building with 2x WS-C2960S-48TS-L connected together with FlexJack and then a 1Gb Fiber connection back to our core switch.
This building is on it's own subnet and there is little broadcast traffic. I don't see the point other than it hinders the potential speed we could use. Labs are set up in this building and 1Gb is MUCH faster when it comes to imaging and software deployment.
Randomly, the cisco light blinks and i lose my internet connection. I cant even ping the router. After 30 secs it works again. But this is annoying, i got disconnected 4 times today, unnaceptable. Im connected with wired ethernet. My firmware is 1.0.03.

I am using a wired Ethernet connection and as said when someone connects either via WiFi or also through a wired connection, the internet for me will drop as soon as the device is connected, and then randomly every 20 minutes or so thereafter. I should also mention that rarely the connection will just drop for again, 5-10 seconds even when nobody else is connected.I tried my computer at someone else's house using their router and it worked fine, no disconnects at all.

Now the link between the router WAN port and the modem randomly drops. Stays dropped for 1-3 secs and then connect again. When its really bad this happens with 5-10 secs intervall. I have CentOS and the application I am running does not listen on 192.168.1.5 (Private IP address). Right now I have connected using bridge mode and I can see in my network configuration-> ppp and eth0. PPP has public IP and eth0 has private IP. Is there any way that I can get public ip assigned to eth0? I do not have Static IP, I want to use the public dynamic IP assigned by my ISP to use in eth0 interface.

Connectivity works as expected.Servers are on their own VLAN, and plugged directly into the sg300. When somebody starts a file copy from their client workstation off a file server, the server VLAN drops everything except for the file copy. Even drops packets on its own vlan, (server to server communication) until the file copy is complete. Seems like the VLAN is rate limited somehow.

Reason is: before I used the SG200 I used a standard hub. THroughput was perfect, HD movies played seamless. With the SG200, performance is significantly less. HD movies are not playable.

you have a Cable Modem and are paying for 30MB/sec download or better service, but the network connection on the cable modem is only 10/100; all very common today.Your network connection is showing it's connected at 100 (computer - router - cable modem)....now on the technical side, remember that a 100 MB network connection can only transfer data at a maximum rate of 12.5 MB/sec (not something the normal home user knows or even thinks about).So here's the question; why would you pay for 30MB/sec download speeds when the cable modem itself can only transfer (in theory) 12.5MB/sec to you over the network?
