I have CentOS and the application I am running does not listen on 192.168.1.5 (Private IP address). Right now I have connected using bridge mode and I can see in my network configuration-> ppp and eth0. PPP has public IP and eth0 has private IP. Is there any way that I can get public ip assigned to eth0? I do not have Static IP, I want to use the public dynamic IP assigned by my ISP to use in eth0 interface.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a new router (ASUS RT-N10)and It is asking me to direct connect my cable modem to my computer, and then find my MAC address via command prompt, and clone it to the new router.I can get to my command prompt, the problem lies in windows 7 and vista's (or mine) inability to realize that my network card is directly connecting to the modem. (No internet connection available, doesn't think anything is connected). I have tried on multiple machines to try and find my modem's mac address but it simply is not working.I want to know if I can find the mac address through the old router, or what I need to do to have windows 7 recognize I'm directly connecting the modem to the PC.

We have the phone line connected to an extension at the other end (where the Church is) >80m away. Any way of running a second concurrent router on the extension so I can set up an office with a VOIP number, pC's printers etc there too? We use Devolo ethernet over mains and wireless for the main building, but the church itself is on a completely seperate mains power supply so I can't use that. I could run 100m Cat 5 and locate a switch on that, but any way of achieving something similar over the phone cable which is already in place.

There is a Windows XP computer on the network with a static IP address and a shared folder that I need to access with QuickBooks across the VPN.I can connect to the router; but only doing that is of little use. Once my VPN connection is made,how do I find the computer on the other side and map a drive to it or get it with QuickBooks? I need to do this with a Windows Vista Computer and a Windows XP computer at remote locations. Windows Vista seems to be different than XP in that it will not let me type a network address in Explorer without adding an HTTP://. Network places does not seem to work either.
View 11 Replies View RelatedWe've (an independent school) just bought an SR520 with a view to replacing one of our Draytek 2820s. We need to set up some site-to-site VPN with NAT and the Drayteks won't do it.
I've been trying to configure the SR520 in just the most basic fashion using CCA (3.1) and the CLI but with no success. I can't get a PPP connection with our ISP.
I've tried following the instructions in the software config pdf and also tried replicating the various 'running configs' reported in other posts in this forum to allow connection to a UK ISP, with no success. I don't know how many times I've reset the poor thing to factory defaults.
I have to say that I'm dismayed at how flaky the CCA appears to be. Many of the things I've tried with it simply don't work and often end up in it hanging. Close to useless in my view.
So instead I've tried to use the CLI which seems a lot more solid but is somewhat impenetrable and there's precious little by way of supporting explanation.

I need the static ip to connect to a private network for my new job but cant connect to that network. I went to whatsmyip and found that my old dynamic ip is still showing up externally, it looks like my ip4 is using the dynamic as a preferred. My question is do i need to manually change the network connection on my LAN and wireless connection under ipv4 to change it from automatically obtain TO use the following address and put in my static? View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought a new laptop today, unfortunately, it doesnt have a Firewire port and i want to use it for video editing.But i figured no problem really, i'll just capture on my desktop that i have been previously using to edit on, using Premiere pro to edit, but HDVsplit to capture, and then transfer the files over to the laptop using a USB or possibly trying to setup a home network.But when transferring files from the desktop onto the laptop via the router using ethernet cables, the speed is about 250 kb/s and when its the other way around, from the laptop to the desktop, the speed is 10 MB/s! The router light does not go on showing me I am not connecting to the TV receiver. When I go into the DTV receiver it reads all my IP address and has an OK behind them, but says there is an error and the internet is not connected. When I plug the same cable into my PC or my laptop the light on the router does come on. Also my iphone does receive WIFI via the same router. I called DTV and they said everything on the receiver is correct. I called my router folks and they said everything is correct and that it must be the DTV receiver. I've been using this router for several years and their tech guy sounded like he knew what he was doing. how I can get the router to recognize the TV receiver?
