how to connect a adsl modem to a computer network using a switch with a server.I have a network with a server and about ten clients computers all connected through a switch, the server has an IP 192.168.1.1 as its gateway. I have CentOS and the application I am running does not listen on 192.168.1.5 (Private IP address). Right now I have connected using bridge mode and I can see in my network configuration-> ppp and eth0. PPP has public IP and eth0 has private IP. Is there any way that I can get public ip assigned to eth0? I do not have Static IP, I want to use the public dynamic IP assigned by my ISP to use in eth0 interface.

However, if I try to use a WEB-BASED client, I am able to connect without a problem. What's stranger, if I try to connect to the same server on a different computer using the same wireless network (I'm running on Wifi), that computer has not problem connecting to the FTP server via all the methods mentioned above. So that should at least eliminate the wireless network itself from the list of possibilities.
And to the best of my knowledge it has nothing to do with the firewall as I've made every possible setting tweak to allow ftp connection in and out - I've even turned off the firewall and antivirus with no luck.
Which is why I have reason to believe it has to do with my laptop itself.
I am in the process of opening an internet cafe. I dont know exactly what a pc server does on the network... or do I really need one? Is the switch/hub sufficent to connect all pcs to the moderm to connect to the internet?

After the reinstall I am able to connect to the internet however I am unable to connect main server computer. Usually, before it crashed, the server would automatically show up in the networks folder. It tells me the SSID etc but when I connect to it, it becomes an unidentified network and has no internet connectivity. This problem only occurs on my laptop via wifi, wifi still works fine on other computers and my phone so I assume it is a problem on my laptops end. Also my laptop can connect to other wireless networks, ie my schools public network, and they work fine. I'm running windows 7 home premium.

There are two devices hardwired to it; a server and a Linksys WRT610N, The server is hardwired to it with port forwarding set for ports 21, 80 and 5900. It works perfectly and can be reached as intended by the outside world but not by our own network. Our Linksys WRT610N is hardwired to the modem. All computers on the wireless network see each other and can access the internet perfectly. So all seems well enough. BUT, no computer on our network can reach our server. Using the domain name or VNC connections from inside our system results in time outs and no connection.

When my PC is connected straight to the ADSL modem everything works like charm. But when I connect modem with wan port on the router and router with my PC I get no internet access. The network shows as unidentified network and win7 troubleshooter says: Default gateway not available. Connecting them two devices seems pretty simple and I dont think I am doing anything wrong so what could be the problem?
