I am looking to purchase an ADSL wireless modem router combo which will be mainly used for net browsing, online gaming (ps3) and skype.It has been suggested by the IT tech we use that I a get dual band n wireless gigabit modem/router but my limited knowledge and the confusion created by reading multiple contracting reviews of products is sending me a bit loopy.

I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi just bought a Netgear WNDR4000 router due to troubles with my current modem/router combo (D-Link DSL2730-B). The router doesnt have in built modem functionality obviously so I need to set up the modem/router as a dedicated modem.Also should I use the current modem/router as the dedicated modem or an older model i own (I think its a DSL 502T)? Because the current one often drops the internet connection. Don't know if its a problem with the modem functionality or something else. Will the older one serve better since i didn't have any problems with that one or will it be outdated? I only upgraded due it not having wireless capabilities. Otherwise it's fine.Or will I be even better off buying a dedicated modem? I really don't want to spend more money but if this is a far better alternative I guess i will.
EDIT: Ok so found out that I have to put the modem/router in bridge mode in order for this to be possible. However, looking up how to do this lead me to a dead end because i need to fill in some fields that i have no idea how to interpret.

I'm moving into a new place pretty quick, and my ISP has just introduced those lovely (read: awful) modem/router combos. I want to use my router running DD-WRT however. If I disable all firewalls, etc. and the DHCP server on the built-in router, and then have that all enabled on my DD-WRT router, everything should work, right? That way the combo unit would basically just be acting as a modem.

I switched to xfinity and I really don't feel like renting their gateway for $7 dollars a month. Gateways are crap anyways. So do any of you know of a good router and modem that can be paired up to work well with xfinity and has good speed?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently went to a higher speed ADSL which claimed to be 16Mpbs.. It is with Acanac and when i first tested with speed net it came in over 14Mbps. I was using a netgear wireless g router (old) with the 4200 speedstream modem and got these results which I found acceptable. Now using netgear n router modem combo DGN-2000 and my readings are just over 12 Mbps. I tried reverting and still got the lower speeds. I tried isolating one computer hard wired still got the lower 12Mbps.It hasnt really affected my download speeds as far as I can tell but I did find it a little puzzling.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys E2500 and I'm trying to connect it to my ISP provided router (Actiontec V1000H) because I wanted better range and consistent connectivity for my 6+ wireless devices.My problem is that, to make this work, I connected an Ethernet cable from the E2500's yellow internet port to one of my V1000H's LAN ports. This, however, did not give me access to the internet even though the network for my E2500 was available in the network list and selected as the default network. I then had to go the the advanced settings of the E2500, and changed the router IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.2. This granted me internet access.However, everyone i've talked to including coworkers and experts at dslreports said that, because of what I've done I've set up a double NAT with 2 potentially conflicting IP addresses, and down the road weird issues will arise because of it. They also suggested I connect the E2500 to a dedicated modem to avoid this problem. However, the dedicated modem I was sent was faulty and did not allow internet access even through the ethernet connection. So, until I get a new dedicated modem, I have to use the router/modem combo.What should I do? Should I set up the E2500 as just a wireless access point for my existing router/modem combo? What do I need to edit in the advanced settings?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using a 2wire 2701HG-B wireless router/dsl modem combo. My computer is a Win 7 Ultimate 64bit. The router/modem has been reliable for the last 2 years.. hardly ever needing a reset, reboot, or anything. Then all of a sudden my wifi network didn't show up anymore. I did a reboot, nothing. Kind of weird so I got on the phone with AT&T and they walked me through some simple stuff and they determined it's either the router or my computer. Well I know it's not the computer, I can use the mobile hotspot on my android phone and it gets on just fine.All of the lights on the router are green, AT&T showed that all the tests show the internet connection is working. Since the router is not sending out a wifi signal anymore, I had to plug the ethernet cable in. The system recognizes a connection but says it isn't connected because it is a "public" connection. Additionally, if I go to network connections with the cable plugged in, I can see my DirecTV DVR is showing on the network (because it is connected to the router via ethernet too). So it isn't broadcasting wifi, I can see my DVR over the network in windows, but I can't get the IP renewed.

He says has 3 static ips for the modem, and 1 of the network cables coming from the modem directly into the D-Link Router. I first attempted to just plug it into the uplink, and let DCHP do its magic, but I had no luck with that. I could connect to the router but it didn't have internet.
So I restarted the downstream router, and plugged the network cable into the 1st port, and suddenly I had internet on the wireless but it would constantly go up and down, and ping times were extreme erratic.

When my PC is connected straight to the ADSL modem everything works like charm. But when I connect modem with wan port on the router and router with my PC I get no internet access. The network shows as unidentified network and win7 troubleshooter says: Default gateway not available. I am connected to the internet via a non TP=Llink ADSL2 modem/router supplied by my ISP.I was using my TL-MR3220 as a 3G modem but no longer need it for that purpose. I was wondering whether I can now use my TL-MR3220 for two other purposes: as an additional wireless access point and as a means of linking equipment (i.e. printers) to the home network . i have tried connecting the ADSL2 modem/router to the TL-MR3220 via an ethernet cable (one of the 4 LAN ports on the ADSL modem/router to the blue WAN port on the TL-MR3220) but I can get no internet connection through the TL-MR3220.Is this normal i.e. something that the TL-MR3220 is not designed to do, or am I just using the wrong settings ? View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have a Vigor ADSL modem linked to a hub that then links to 3 pc's and 2 printers all via ethernet. Connection to the outside world is fine.
A few weeks ago the IT geek decided to switch the modem from DHCP to PPPoA and put each pc & printer on fixed IPs. The Vigor is also on a static IP.
This therefore cut off our link to the Linksys WRTG54 we have in a different room serving as a wireless router.
The Linksys is/was connected via ethernet to port 1, port 2 direct to laptop. Wireless worked fine until they changed to static IP etc on the Vigor, now we only have ethernet to the laptop and no Wireless.
What do we need to do at the Linksys end to get wireless working again?
We got a 1921 router that works fine. We ordered Verizon Businss One Static IP ADSL. It came with a Westell Modem that we configured in bridge mode. When we do a test by assigning a static IP to our laptop then hook it up to the Westell it works fine. We can browse the web. Then when we assign a static IP to the Ethernet on our 1921 then connect it to the Westell it doesn't work. We can't ping out from the router to for example 4.2.2.2. From the router we can't even ping the default gateway (on Verizon's side).

When both are powered up, the wireless router sometimes doesn't get internet access because the modem automatically logs itself in. My Toshiba laptop can't get connected to the wireless ADSL modem router TD-W8960N. I have 4 different laptops and one desktop, all connected to the router very well, only the Toshiba cannot get on Internet. I can connect to the wireless network on the laptop, but it shows limited access.
I want to configure my router to use 2 ADSL lines each with a dialer and a modem in RFC2684 mode. I have a 2821 (IOS 12.4) with an HWIC-4ESW.

Lately I encountered random Internet connection issues?My router is a Netgear Wireless ADSL Firewall Modem Router DG834 (Firmware V1.05.0) and my ISP, isn't the most reliable regarding bandwidth... All clients (max 3 at the same time) connect wireless.The problem is that the last few weeks my connections is very unstable, all clients lose the internet connection until you restart the router manually.I can't even connect to the webinterface (192.168.0.1), during the downtimes.
