Routers / Switches :: Computer Is Not Showing Static Ip?
Jan 17, 2011
I got a static ip from my isp. I set up my static ip manually through my linksy router. I need the static ip to connect to a private network for my new job but cant connect to that network. I went to whatsmyip and found that my old dynamic ip is still showing up externally, it looks like my ip4 is using the dynamic as a preferred. My question is do i need to manually change the network connection on my LAN and wireless connection under ipv4 to change it from automatically obtain TO use the following address and put in my static? And do I have to change the DNS also? I am on a home network with one desktop on vista home premium and laptop windows 7.
A friend was over with his lap top, since then I'm getting "sam's pc network",instead of my network, I can't seem to disable it, nor can the other devices in the house connect to it, the default is Sam's....
In asus router model rt-n10, there is a client list when you bring up 192.168.1.1 showing names of devices also mac addresses and ip addresses. How do I add names to the list so I know which devices are using what ip etc. I have tried the advanced settings in the router to see if I can do it this way , but no luck.
I have VOIP and was provided a modem, a Tilgen Router (Vood 452_A). I also currently have a Linksys WRT54G router. I also have a home surveillance system with a DVR that can be accessed via the net. I am trying to allow the ports to open so that traffic can navigate down to the DVR.My IPs:My VOIP has provided me with 6 static IP addresses. For sake of this issue they are:
67.xx.xxx.153, through .158My subnetmask is set to:
255.255.255.248My Settings:
The Modem is connected to world. To the modem I have the Tilgen Router connected. The Tilgen is set with an ip of .153 and the subnetmask listed above. DHCP is turned on and has IP range set for .154-.158. It is set in Bridge Mode with NAT and Firewall turned off. To that I have the WRTG54G router connected and assigned the router an Static IP of .154.. The cable is going into the Linksys WAN port. From a computer connected to a LAN port on the WRT54G, I see my public IP as .154, currently my internal IP is 192.168.1.15 so I believe I have to assign one of my Static IPs to this PC, however when I try to connect to the Linksys Router (.154) from the outside web, I am get a time out error. (also from a ping test.) My thoughts are to assign the Linksys to DHCP and use a range of .155-.158 to give each lan item a static IP. My question is will this work? Will each item in the network have its own IP and if I forward the port to the DVR that i needed, ie 80 for web client or 6100 for desktop client, will that forward through?Or do I set it to Router Mode and use the Tilgen to assign the ips.
On the Tilgen I also have an option for a DHCP relay or to turn off DHCP.
For clarification here is the setup chain Broadband/DSL Line>>Tilgen Modem>>(LANPort1)Tilgen Router(LAN Port2)>>(WAN) Linksys(LANPort1)>>DVR/Computers Found this walkthrough on setting the WRT54G into a Switch. If I did this, in theory the VOOD would assign those computers/dvr connected downstream via the WRT54G a static ip from my range set on the router. Then in theory I would not need to port forward port 80 since the DVR would be on its own public IP.?
i m using ISP provided modem+router and another D-Link Wireless router at the same time... My computer is connected to D-LInk's Router and D-Link's Router is connected to ISP's Modem...My modem's Ip address is : 192.168.1.1 Router's IP Address: 192.168.0.1ok but now problem is that now Dlink is connected to ISP's Modem and ISP's modem assigns different ip to Wl.Router. Both have DHCP enabled... But i want modem (which is also a router) to assign D-Link's router the STATIC IP... like 192.168.1.54Router Model is D-link DIR-615 Modem Model is ZTE EchoLife HG510a
This is the situation in our Lab.We have one telephone line with broadband connection and a system which is connected to a modem to use this broadband facility. Recently we have taken two static IPs over this connection for a project work. Now what I want to know is, how to configure these static IPs, so that I can connect two systems (each one to one static IP) to use these static IPs and continue to access the internet in the 3rd (already present) system.
Signed onto pc as admin, logged into router with correct user name and password. No page in the browser based configuration displays the complete information for the page. Menus are missing as are option labels, etc. The last time I accessed the router (about a year ago) I didn't have this problem.
I have a working VPN with a WRVS4400N Wireless N VPN Router. There is a Windows XP computer on the network with a static IP address and a shared folder that I need to access with QuickBooks across the VPN.I can connect to the router; but only doing that is of little use. Once my VPN connection is made, how do I find the computer on the other side and map a drive to it or get it with QuickBooks? I need to do this with a Windows Vista Computer and a Windows XP computer at remote locations. Windows Vista seems to be different than XP in that it will not let me type a network address in Explorer without adding an HTTP://. Network places does not seem to work either.
I have a computer & Bluray..should I use router to be able to use bothe at same time?I have a single port dsl line..or should I get a mulit port "modem/router"?
I bought a new laptop today, unfortunately, it doesnt have a Firewire port and i want to use it for video editing. But i figured no problem really, i'll just capture on my desktop that i have been previously using to edit on, using Premiere pro to edit, but HDVsplit to capture, and then transfer the files over to the laptop using a USB or possibly trying to setup a home network. But when transferring files from the desktop onto the laptop via the router using ethernet cables, the speed is about 250 kb/s and when its the other way around, from the laptop to the desktop, the speed is 10 MB/s! I really need to find away to speed this up as the overall files i want to transfer are over 5GB.You can read a bit more about it here: [URL]
we have a d-link router and anybody that comes to the house cannot connect to the internet. If I don't want just anybody to use our connection, what do I have to do to allow people I want to use it?
Ive assigned the static IP to Server, but when i go back to network properties it show Obtain IP address automatically, however, network working fine with previously assigned IP.
my modem is working, I have two computers on the router plus my wireless is working.I connected my cable that was going from the modem to the router directly to the computer and it still says "network cable unplugged"sis 900 based PCI fast internet?
I have CentOS and the application I am running does not listen on 192.168.1.5 (Private IP address). Right now I have connected using bridge mode and I can see in my network configuration-> ppp and eth0. PPP has public IP and eth0 has private IP. Is there any way that I can get public ip assigned to eth0? I do not have Static IP, I want to use the public dynamic IP assigned by my ISP to use in eth0 interface.
Few systems on my LAN stops recieving packets but sending, this happened after i changed my switch, i run xp professional. i have tested cables, NICs,etc.
Had laptop connecting wirelessly perfect with no problems. We then added another laptop and PSP 3 to the house hold. Any of the 3 devices will connect to the internet via wireless but ONLY one at a time. If you are connected with one and turn on one of the others it will kick the one off that you were on and only 1 device can use wireless at a time?
I want to setup a static ip address for a h.264 network dvr ,however my desktop computer is out of order, that is connected direct to router,is it possible to use my wireless laptop to setup the router,or will I have to connect the eithernet cable to the laptop.
After a power failure nothing could connect to the internet anymore. I called MTS (ISP provider) and they had me change some setup on my PC. Now my PC connects to the internet, but nothing else will connect (X Box, WII, iPods, Laptop). They were connected wireless before the power outage through my router. MTS said they are only responsible for ensuring their model works, not routers.I have checked some router settings. It is set for DHCP with 50 users.
Today I installed the 1.0.2.6 Firmware on a RV180W. I only have now two problems regarding the Static DHCP support in the GUI.
1. Via the Networking > LAN (Local Network) > Static DHCP I have no buttons to Add a new static Lease. 2. Via the Networking > LAN (Local Network) > DHCP Lease Clients I can thick a Lease and click on Make Static IP. The result is an error: Operation failed.
Today when I tried to add a network printer, list of browsed printers in network is shown as pc1/hplaser1, pc1/hplaser2, pc2/hplaser1, pc7/hplaser1 and so on. They are all network printers, not local printers. Then why it is not showing the printers alone, why they show the pcs in the network and the same printer is shown in different pcs as they are installed in all of them.
Have an older laptop running XP Home, Desktop running XP Pro with printer on it. Wireless network setup and doing fine for bidirectional file share and print share from old lappie to desktop. All worked great.Bought a brand new high end laptop with Win 7 (not impressed). Finally got the Win 7 new one to recognize both older computers on the Win 7 computer and was able to access file share and print on the desktop. Thought I was doneNope, now while I can see the old lappie and it can see it in the Win7 computer both directions give me cannot access the drive or specific files even though it "sees" themAll files and disks are set to full share. No password is required or any homegroup is setup on the win 7 system. I've been in the bus. a long time so you know I'm at the end of the rope. All searches through knowledge base and the web have yielded no results to this.I did find an absolute to this in insuring that both systems have the same workgroup. Changed the old lappie to the right name. Made no difference in access (after several reboots). Obviously can't run Easy Transfer with this situation.
Now problem #2. I changed the old lappies workgroup to the same as the Win7 computer in the hopes of fixing this. Made no difference but now I have two iterations my XP laptop in the Win 7 system. When selected, the info for one has the old workgroup and selecting the other shows the new workgroup (matching the Win7 workgroup).Anyway, throwing up my hands in frustration and disgust. Find no way to even dump the old workgroup map listing. Jeez. Sure glad they (M/S) made this better?
I had a wireless network set up between my Dell D630 and a Del XPS M1210 with IS and worked fine. Then we sold the XPS and got a E4300. I set up a wireless network on it with IS and it also worked fine. Both laptops running XP. The E4300 has SP3 and the D630 was set up with SP2 but I upgraded to SP3. The network was difficult to connect at times so I had to bypass the firewall to connect. Once connected, IS worked fineHowever, latetly it refused wireless connection even though the connection was visible. I have now tried to set up a new wireless between the 2 but it doesn't even show when I refresh the wireless connections in range.
I just started having this problem yesterday. I was experiencing weird downloading/internet browsing issues and couldn't figure out what the problem was. I started looking around my router settings and noticed that in my DHCP Client list, my computer isn't in it. The router is hooked up to the computer, so it's not wireless. My phone and my girlfriend's laptop are listed, but the main computer isn't. It's especially causing problems with port forwarding. Downloads will stop because the port isn't showing as open. I'm running 64 bit Windows 7 and a Belkin N+ Wireless Router, model F5D8235-4.Firmware is up to date.
I am having trouble keeping my computer connected to the internet...even though it says my signal strength from my wireless internet is excellent. every time i get online i put in my url and it loads the page but if i click on anything on that page it asks me to connect again even though my computer says im still connected.
One computer (Windows 7 Laptop) which travels between both locations. Can I or how do I setup a static IP address for both locations on my computer and not have to change settings when I change locations?
When I was hosting a server on minecraft, a few people complained that the server was down. It was, and the problem is that my router switched to a dynamic IP after comcast installed a security system to my house. If I try to reset the router, the system goes down and takes a helluva long time to get back up. Whenever I try to switch to a static IP, however, I lose internet connection. Wondering how to fix this. Or do I have to switch back to my laptop - which might also not even work. (I'll go try that, but I'm using my desktop because it has extra RAM.)
