In asus router model rt-n10, there is a client list when you bring up 192.168.1.1 showing names of devices also mac addresses and ip addresses. How do I add names to the list so I know which devices are using what ip etc. I have tried the advanced settings in the router to see if I can do it this way , but no luck.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy BEFSR81 is my primary router and has DHCP turned on. The router's DHCP range is set to accommodate 12 devices. I have three computers wired to it and their Host names (as specified in the set-up of each computer) show up in the router's DHCP device table. I also have two printers (one old Brother HL5250DN laser printer and one new HP Photosmart Premier C410a inkjet printer) connected and there are blanks where the Host name should go. I would like to be able to tell which printer is which when I am looking at the DHCP device table. How can I get a names associated with each printer's IP address in the router's DHCP device table? (The real problem is that the router seems to have both printers at the same IP address (192.168.1.100) and if I can get one of them to change I'd like to know which one it was!)

When I try to complete the same VPN connection via a Wireless Router (Linksys WRT160Nv3) i get the following message: "Network error. Unable to look up host names"I have tried connecting and it will initially connect, but 15-30 seconds it will drop and connection can't be re-established.Is there a setting on the Linksys WRT160Nv3 that needs to be changed?

I need the static ip to connect to a private network for my new job but cant connect to that network. I went to whatsmyip and found that my old dynamic ip is still showing up externally, it looks like my ip4 is using the dynamic as a preferred. My question is do i need to manually change the network connection on my LAN and wireless connection under ipv4 to change it from automatically obtain TO use the following address and put in my static? View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyway, I am looking for a way to discover host names of Apple devices (namely iPods and iPhones) that are on our network. I've tried a number of programs like Nmap, Advanced IP Scanner, and LanSpy to name a few. All of them will report back the MAC address with no problem but no dice on resolving the host name.
My goal is to use the host name to identify the device, and ultimately the person with the device. Any thoughts on how I can go about this? Is there a setting in Nmap I'm missing or perhaps a better program to use?
Signed onto pc as admin, logged into router with correct user name and password. No page in the browser based configuration displays the complete information for the page. Menus are missing as are option labels, etc. The last time I accessed the router (about a year ago) I didn't have this problem.

Though when we use SNMPWalk (to find the OIDs connected to the port) the names of the ports are all the same.

Is there a way to change the names of these interface to unique names?We've already given unique names in the description field through the switch's GUI, but it doesn't make any difference for Nagios.
1. I recently purchased an Asus X53-sx1159v laptop (Windows 7 64 bit os - other detals at bottom ).
2. While it has a wifi network connection (which works fine), it doesn't seem to have any listing for ethernet (ie wired) connection. (even though it has the port for wired access.)
3. When i look under computer/device manager/networks, all i get is the wifi atheros 9485 network adaptor. There is no other listing. (see attched file for screen grabs)
4. Am i missing something obvious with all this? The Asus website has examples of this model with screen grab which includes an ethernet adaptor as well (see attached file)
Note that laptop is labelled as an X53 series but in the computer it get listed as a K53e

I've just installed a RV042G router for the first time. The computers connect to the internet just fine, but they can no longer see each other through the Windows workgroup. I can ping the router, but not other computers on the net. The router doesn't seem to be sharing the names of the other computers on the net.

The thing is I've installed it in the past and ran into some driver issue which made me give up. But it showed up in device manager before so I know it's not a dead card. Right now, plug and play isn't working. How do I get a Wireless Connection to show up in my device manager? This is for my PC. I also have a couple drivers I could use but I don't know how to install them because they are not exe files. I can't select upgrade drivers because the network adapter isn't showing up in the first place.
I have tried unplugging and replugging, and also scanning for hardware changes in device manager.
I have an EA4500 and am using Cisco Connect Cloud software. Its working mostly fine except that I have one device on the network that will not show up in the device list. This is not an issue in itself and normally I would ignore (although it used to show up when I forst got the router) however..
The device is a WDTVLive media unit and required access to windows shares on a media server. Now the WDTVLive device is server an ip address by the router and is available from everywhere on my network but every couple of days it loses the capacity to search windows shares.
I know what you are thinking and I initially thought the same, this is an issue with the WDTVLive box. However one day I spent a few hours trying to resolve (Am an IT Consultant and know a little about networks) and found that I could not fix the issue. I then rebooted the router and it started working. I have since confirmed that every time it breaks I have to reboot the router.
I just got a DIR-655 and set it all up pretty easily. I have 6 wired and 3 wireless. All work fine and all are set to use DHCP. But if I go (in the router) to the Lan Computers list under Device Info, three devices (2 wired, 1 wireless) do not appear. I do have a switch added to the system, but of the three devices connected to it, 1 shows in th Lan Computers list and the other 2 do not.Since everything works, I'm mostly just curious why this is. Every previous router I've had showed everything correctly.

In running the Cisco Network Assistant (Version 5.6(3)) they show up as an unsupported device. The documentation for this product indicates that you can use CNA to configure this switch. Is there a download or patch available to correct this problem?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the WRT400N router with the latest firmware. Recently I have noticed a device in my DHCP that I do not recognize. It is not device I own (believe me, I have racked my brain and confirmed) as it shows as an Acer pc. I cannot ping the IP address however. I have rebooted my router several times thinking maybe it's a former connected device but saved in memory but it keeps coming back. I am thinking possibly it is someone hi-jacking my Internet, but not sure. I am using WEP security but it shows a LAN connection which is strange for a wireless device. The only hard wired pc is my HP.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a WAP54g set up as a repeater. It even shows in the WRT54g device list (Tomato firmware) as a WDS interface but nothing can connect to it. I have the repeater's MAC address in the AP and it's set to "Access Point + WDS" mode. I don't know what I could be doing wrong. Is it a conflict of DHCP on the AP vs static on the repeater?
