Cisco Switches :: SG300 Trunk With 3com 4800G?

Oct 25, 2012

Our company currently have a 3com 2816 connected to a 3com 4800G through a trunk.  The 4800G connects to the PBX and to the ip phones/computers. We are currently using vlan1 (192.168.100.n) for data and vlan 3 (192.168.101.n) for voice , Ip addresses are being issued by a DHCP server. Each user has an assigned IP phone and it has an ethernet port that connects to each computer. This setup has been working properly until I purchased an SG300 and replaced the 3com 2816.

The ip phone is showing a bad gateway and the PC are getting an ip address of 192.168.101 (which is for voice). Theoretically it should work, but what is weird is, it seems the SG300 trunking with the 3com 4800G is not working. Is it possible that it is on ISL mode rather than dot1q?I also saw its running RSTP, should I changed it to classic STP?How do I fix this or what troubleshooting should i do?

The SG300 is configured as a layer 2 switch. Configuration for the trunk below:

interface gigabitethernet27
spanning-tree link-type point-to-point
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 3-4
macro description switch
macro auto smartport type switch $native_vlan 1

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Trunking Between 3500XL And 3Com 4800g

Oct 14, 2012

I am trying to trunk between a 3Com 4800g and a Cisco 3500xl.  I can get the a PC that connects to a vlan 1 port on thecisco switch to connect to the 3com switch and get connectivity.  However, I cannot get anthing on the cisco switch that is on vlan 2 to connect and get dhcp.  I am not a 3com guy, so I am not familiar with the command and configs. We have 2 vlans on both switches:  Vlan 1 is Admin and Vlan 2 is Student.

Cisco Switches :: Trunk On SG300 Constantly Removing Ports And Adding Back

Mar 19, 2012

I have a Cisco SG300 switch on which trunks are configured. I have a server which sits on the switch via a trunk link of four network cables (4 Gbps total)on which LACP is enabled. I'm having trouble connecting to the server using VNC from a computer on the network. It doesn't happen all the time though, it's just random.

On looking at the logs of the switch, I saw something unusual. The trunk that connects the switch to the server is constantly removing all the member ports and adding them back again after a few minutes interval. That causes the trunk link to flip on and off all the time. What could be the reason that's causing it to happen? I know it could be the network cable but I'm using brand new cables and the server also is brand new.

Cisco :: Why Wouldn't Use Spanning - Tree Portfast On Trunk Port Other Than Trunk Between Two Switches

Apr 11, 2013

Is there really any reason why you wouldn't use spanning-tree portfast on a trunk port other than a trunk between two switches? We have it enabled on all ports except for the fiber trunk between two non-stacked switches and the trunk ports connected to our Astaro firewall.I'd like to enable it on the ports to the firewall unless that would cause issues.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: LAG / Trunk Configuration Between 3560 And SG300-24P

Aug 27, 2012

A client of ours has installed an SG300-24P switch and would like to setup a LAG between the SG300 and the 3560 switch we manage for them. They would like the LAG to also pass the voice and two data VLANs currently in use; 5, 10, and 100 respectively. I configured the two ports as an Etherchannel with trunking on the logical port, but no luck. I reconfigured as follows:

interface GigabitEthernet0/1
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
channel-group 1 mode active
end

[code]....

I see no output when I do show lacp nei. At this point the client is looking to use for the configurations to use as he does not know how to setup the SG300 and it is a switch I have never dealt with. I have found some configurations that I believe  would allow a single VLAN across, but nothing I believe will allow the LAG to pass all the VLAN's.

Cisco :: Using 1240 AP With 3COM Switches

Feb 23, 2012

I have several autonomous 1240ag AP's that I need to enable a second ssid(Guest and VLAN2) for guest access and while I have configured the AP's according to the driections, I am not able to connect to the second ssid(Guest), but it is broadcasting. When I check the logs, I do not even see my laptop or any other device for that matter, trying to authenticate, what am I missing? I can see, connect and get an IP from the first ssid(Production and VLAN1), which is on the native VLAN and my 3COM 3C17203 switch port(14) is tagged for both VLAN's. Although I am sure that this would work better with a Catalyst switch, but it is not in my budget to replace all 4 of these, but I need this to work.

Cisco Switches :: SG300-28 GUI Different Than Online SG300-48 Simulator

Aug 29, 2011

These are our first switches and seems like GUI is lot different than the online. Out intervlan routing is o not working. I am absolutely sure that I setup the switch in L3 mode since it allows me to create mutiple interfaces. I am hoping that this GUI issue is related to interVLAN routing.

Below is the blog I started for InterVlan issue [URL]

Cisco Switches :: Fiber Connection Between 3Com 5500G EI And SG-300

May 30, 2012

We’ve just begun the transition from our old 3Com switches to new Cisco switches and we’ve encountered interoperability problems as we start the transition.Goal:  Extend 6 VLANs (each representing an IP subnet) via fiber from a port on the 3Com 5500G-EI to a port on the Cisco SG-300-52

We assign an IPV4 address to the Cisco SG-300-52.  We can successfully ping/web-manage at this address if we do a temporary copper jumper from a 3Com switch to the Cisco.  IP address is in the subnet assigned to VLAN7•2)      At the 3Com side, the fiber port is set as “hybrid” and is passing VLAN 1 untagged; VLANs 3-8 tagged•3)      At the Cisco side, the fiber port is set as “trunk” and is defined with VLAN 1 untagged and VLANs 3-8 tagged.

If I try to change the management interface on the CISCO from VLAN 1 to VLAN 7 (as I would on the 3Com), I lose connectivity over the temporary copper connection•B)

If I remove the temporary copper jumper from the Cisco (keeping the “working” management IP address) and create the fiber link between the 2 switches, I lose connectivity to the management IP , If I set the 3Com fiber port to “access” and make the fiber connection, I can ping the management interface – but of course, I can’t pass the other VLANs to untagged access ports on the Cisco – and it has the fun side benefit of messing with IP management settings on other 3Com switch stacks attached to the 5500G-EI.  However, it does demonstrate that we can get network traffic communicating over the fiber link between the 2 switches.

How I can proceed to a) have the management IP address in the IP subnet defined on VLAN 7 while passing the other VLANs to access ports on the Cisco?  BTW, I’m a networking neophyte (it’s a very small part of my job and I do it infrequently), so I prefer to use GUI management to CLI options, although I can perform CLI configuration if presented with the right commands.

I have 2 5500g 3com switches connected with 2 links. If LACP is disable, this causes serious problems and STP not works.

Logically , the link, is a port trunk with all the vlans permitted. One switch has STP enable and the other RSTP. Why this not works fine? I need to configure MSTP maybe? PVSTP is not allowed on this switches.

Cisco Switches :: SG300 Switches Have Poor Performance In Layer 3?

Jan 1, 2013

We have several of the SG300 Serices switches. We use them to route VLAN traffic to Remote Offices, Internet Connections, and WiFi Access Points. In one remote office we have a SG300-10 setup to route the HQ Network and the remote Office Subnet. The SG300 is Connected to HQ via Fiber and has multiple Tagged VLANs on it. If I do speed tests over the Fiber Link on the Incoming Tagged Netwotk I get Decent performance, 80Mbs. If I switch to a networtk that is not priginating from HQ, and have the SG300-10 route packet, I get dismal performance. 15-20Mbs.

I Fireded up a New SG300-28P FW v1.2.7.76. Added a the HQ VLAN 101 and new VLAN 1025 . Mapped some Tagged and untagged ports for each.  Switch was connected to HQ Network as untagged VLAN 101.  I put a laptop on an Untagged VLAN 101 port. Ran some tests, cam back with 750-850Mbs. Great.  Put the same laptop on a Tagged 101 Port, Configured the NIC for Tagged VLAN 101, Same test, same Speeds, 750-850Mbs.I then  Configured laptop for Tagged VLAN 1025. Connected to tagged VLAN 1025 port. Ran speed tests, resuts were 15-20Mbs!

I then  Configured laptop for Untagged VLAN 1025. Connected to unagged VLAN 1025 port. Ran speed tests, resuts were 15-20Mbs!It was only the Laptop and the Connection to the HQ net on the SG300-28P. Why is the performance of this unit soooooo poor when it needs to route?Other Switches have FW v1.0.0.27 or FW v1.1.2.0. They have Similar speed issues. All Configured for Layer 3.

Cisco Switches :: Multiple VLANS And SG300-28P Switches Setup?

Aug 20, 2012

I'm going to have several SG300-28P switches to setup.  I'll need to create multiple vlans for data, voice, and wireless traffic.  I have the following questions in setting up this configuration:

VLAN 1 Management
VLAN 100 Data
VLAN 200 Wireless
VLAN 300 Voice

1) For managing the switches via IP, will LAN1 be the default management network?  Should I create a seperate VLAN for managing the switches?

2) For uplinking the switches together, I plan to trunk a port to connect the switches together.  What's the configuration on the trunk port to forward all vlans from one switch to another?

3) On some ports, I want to configure a trunk for two vlans (Data and Voice) where the phone has a pass through for PC.  The phone supports tagging for the PC and the VoIP traffic.  For example on port 10, would VLAN 100 and 300 be set to tagged?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4507 Use QOS COS Values For Trunk Links Between Switches?

Mar 20, 2012

I've been having a debate with a colleague about QOS COS values. My colleague says I need to use COS values across layer 2 trunk links between access layer switches and core switches. My argument is if phones are marking packets with DSCP values I don't need to be concerned with Cos.The reason I ask is we're implementing a new phone system, the ip phones will  mark RTP traffic wih dscp value EF and Call signaling with DSCP value of CS3. If my understanding is correct I can trust the dscp values of the phones. We are using Cisco 4507 switches which I believe automatically trust dscp values so I would just need a class-map to match the dscp values and apply the output policy map on the egress interfaces as follows? Cisco Switches :: Linksys SRW 224G4 / Catalyst 3650G And Management Via Trunk?

Dec 15, 2009

I have couple of Linksys SRW 224G4 and SRW 2024 connected together with Cisco C3650 switches. For my part of network VLAN100 is used as administrative vlan and VLAN1 as defult (on trunks or unused ports).Altrough most of switches work fine, on all older models of SRW224G4 (hw 1.0, various firmware versions) there is no connectivity to management utilities (also ping won't work) via trunk (where of course VLAN100 is present). At the same time there is no problem with access from "local" ports (assigned to VLAN100) and there are no problems with traffic on VLAN 100 along the network.

For example:Two computers (A and B), two switches (sw1 - old SRW224G4 and sw2 - Cisco switch), are connected as follow:
A--VLAN100--sw1--TRUNK--sw2--VLAN100--B

Swicthes have VLAN100 as management VLAN, computers are connected to access ports (untagged).A has access to management on sw1 and sw2 and connectivity with B?B has access to management on sw2 and connectivity with B but has no access to management on sw1...If sw1 and sw2 are same, old SRW224G4 - everything works fine.Newer versions of SRW224G4, SRW2024 and SLM2024 works OK.Why it doesn't work?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 Multiple Switches One Trunk Port

Sep 21, 2012

We have 7 3560's in 7 different locations connected to our providor for wan access.  Our provider has given us a copper cable at each point and we have connected it directly to our 3560 switch at each location.  Each port is configured the same way at each location.  Each switch is running eigrp. All of the switch ports on each switch are configured as a trunk and vlan 299 had the ip address for the eigrp connection: [code] This setup is working as each switch see's all of the other switches as an eigrp neighbor.  We have also made sure that the switch at our head office has spanning tree priority for vlan 299.

So the problem is, if there is a change in the topology at one of the locations it usually causes one or more of the other connections to go down for some reason.  We just cannot pinpoint what is causing this change.  There are no log's or anything other than an eigrp hold time expired message.?
