Cisco Switches :: Setting Up Public / Private Vlans On Sg300-52?
Mar 25, 2013
How to setup 3 SG300-52 (in L2 mode) as per this diagram:Port 1 on all switches should be able to talk to each other and access the blob at the right. The ports 25 on the other hand should only be able to talk among themselves in their own private vlan. They are to carry sensitive traffic. So I created 3 vlans, vlan 78 for ports gi1, gi51 and vlan 10 for port25,49,50 and a dummy vlan: 666 with the intent of segratating vlan 10 from vlan 78. My attempts so far have failed. ports gi49-50 are configured as trunk ports and gi1,gi51 as access ports as the following cli output (excerpts of the startup config):
vlan database
vlan 10,78,666
exit
interface vlan 1
ip address 172.16.10.11 255.255.255.0
[code]....
Ports gi1 can talk to each other and access the blob but ports 25 refuse to talk to each other. But as soon as I remove the access links to the blob they can! Obviously, at that point port gi1 lose access. Is such a topology feasable or even advisable?

I am trying to provide internet access to public and private SSID's on Cisco AP541n using VLAN's connected directly to ASA5505. VLAN1 is inside interface (private) and VLAN12 is wlan interface (public SSID). The AP541n is plugged into switch port 0/7 on an ASA 5505.Port 0/7 is configured as trunk mode. I have internet access when connected to private SSID but no internet access when connected to public SSID. why I can't access internet on public SSID?

On an 887VA running 15.x IOS, is there a way to support both public and private addresses on inside vlans? The outside interface is public static ip, so the requirement would be to not nat anything if coming from inside vlan10 but nat if coming from inside vlan20.I didn't think this was possible since the outside interface would have to use an outside nat command that would not be ignored for traffic coming from vlan10.

I live in a two family residential house and we share a common fibre connection to the internet. In the basement we have a modem/router(zyxel) which is in "bridge mode". Therefore not acting as DHCP. Behind this zyxel we have a Cisco RVS4000 router. Ports 1 and 2 go to family A, and Ports 3 and 4 go to family B. Family A and B have separate routers which are both set to "access point mode". Family A has an ASUS RT-N66U router while family B has a dlink DIR-615. The asus has an "access point mode" while the dlink needs to be set up manually to achieve this. The dlink must also have a static IP adress. The asus can receive ip adress.
What I have unsuccessfully tried to achieve and am currently trying to separate the networks so that both families can access internett, but at the same time it must be impossible to access VLAN1(Family A) from VLAN2(Family B) vice versa. Meaning no communication between the two families through the local network.
I have tried different options but I am not sure how to deal with trunk, tagged, untagged etc. etc. etc. It seems every time I manage to create two different networks there is still accessability/communication between the two VLANs and everytime I manage to give out different IP adresses to different ports i.e. 192.168.10.xx and 192.168.2.xx it is still possible to communicate. What also usually happens is that the internetconnection is severed at the same time.

I'm going to have several SG300-28P switches to setup. I'll need to create multiple vlans for data, voice, and wireless traffic. I have the following questions in setting up this configuration:
VLAN 1 Management
VLAN 100 Data
VLAN 200 Wireless
VLAN 300 Voice
1) For managing the switches via IP, will LAN1 be the default management network? Should I create a seperate VLAN for managing the switches?
2) For uplinking the switches together, I plan to trunk a port to connect the switches together. What's the configuration on the trunk port to forward all vlans from one switch to another?
3) On some ports, I want to configure a trunk for two vlans (Data and Voice) where the phone has a pass through for PC. The phone supports tagging for the PC and the VoIP traffic. For example on port 10, would VLAN 100 and 300 be set to tagged?

I am aware that private-vlans are not supported on edge switches like 2960 series - so my question is would it be possibel to ceate private vlans on say just the core switch which would be a 3570 or 4506 that supports private vlans and then just trunk these to the edge like normal vlans?what I need to achive is to have edge port not able to communicate to each other even across switches - which cannot be done using 'protected' port so need the private vlan feature?

I have just purchased a SG300-28P switch I am using a GUI to do my config. I cant create VLANs just fine on this but I can not assign IP address to the VLANs.
I just want to have a Data and Voice VLAN on this I am planning on leaving data on VLAn 1 but I can't seem to find an option to assign an IP address to my voice vlan.
For some odd reason I cant access this switch using a console port.

I have a SG300-28P that is our Main VLAN Switch. Though the VLANs that I have on it are there mostly because of our Edge Router and our AP541Ns.We have the Following VLANs defined (Subnets Changed to conseal Piblic IPs) [code]
VLAN200 and VLAN201 come into Our Edge Router and out on a Single GE Port via VLAN Tagged to thje SG300.The SG 300 Splits them out to Untagged Ports and they are connected to Two Firewalls, each with a IP in the 200 and 201 Subnets. The AP510 has the VLAN200, VLAN192 and VLA101 tagged Subnets sent to it. The AP521 has three SSID, each associated with a Paticular VLAN.
This all works fine, though there are a few hidden flaws. Since all of the VLANs are present, both Internal and Public IPs, one could craft packets form one network and use the SG300 as its gateway to the other subnet and Gain Access. How can I isolate the Subnets, so that I can still use the SG300 as a Default Gateway for the 10.1.0.0/16 Network Make it so if someone from the 10.1.0.0/16 netwok accesses the 201.201.201.0/24 Subnet it uses the SG300's 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 default router (the Firewall IP) and not the VLAN InterfaceIf somone in the 201, 200, 192 Subnets uses the SG300 as a Gateway and tries to access a 10.1.0.0/16 address it gets blocked.

I've seen lots of posts from people having problems routing traffic between two vlans with some complicated examples. Any simple step-by-step example for an SG300 switch (in layer 3 mode) to configure two vlans and sending traffic between the two vlans without an external router?
-VLAN1 10.10.10.0
-VLAN2 10.10.20.0
I've tried to do this through the GUI and can't seem to make it work. I'm missing something in the GUI.

I supplied 3 numbers of SG300 series switches for the sole reason to have inter-vlan routing. I created 4 VLANs in the switches and made one switch as Layer 3 switch and other 2 as Layer 2 switch. Inter-Vlan routing is working fine. I am able to ping PCs from different VLANs. But I am not to access shared folders. Customer has installed Window 2003 server installed and it is in VLAN 1. There are some folders created in this server and it is very important for users to have access to the folders. Also, I am not able to access shared folders in other VLANs. I have created a case with Cisco small business and I got a reply saying that the switches will not support shared folder feature, which I think is not real. I am getting a very time to implement this solution in the network. I have a Sonicwall firewall after Core switch which is connected to ISP.

This stream is present on all the ports of my VLAN with IGMP snooping normally configured. Also, I can't see any entry in the IGMP/MLD IP Multicast Group Table where I should normally see my multicast address.

I just received a new Cisco SG300-10 and am configuring it in Layer 3 mode. I am trying to setup multiple routed VLANs going back to a FiOS Actiontec router. My configuration is as follows.
Fios Router: 192.168.1.1
Assigning DHCP 192.168.1.2 through 100.
SG300-10 has VLan 1 ip 192.168.1.5 used for Mgmt.
VLAN2 is 10.0.2.1
VLAN3 is 10.0.3.1.
I have a static route set on the fios router for both subnets setup as follows.
Destination 10.0.3.0 Gateway 192.168.1.5 Netmask 255.255.255.0 Metric 1
Destination 10.0.2.0 Gateway 192.168.1.5 Netmask 255.255.255.0 Metric 1
I have a laptop connected to Gi8 on the Cisco (Vlan 3) and statically assigned 10.0.3.3, with a gateway of 10.0.3.1. DNS set to the fios router (192.168.1.1).
Everything pretty much works EXCEPT, I cannot get out to the internet from either vlan. Traffic routes between vlans/and the default subnet on the fios without issue.
When I ping out, DNS resolves, but will not go past the fios router. Am I missing a setting somewhere?

We're setting up a Citrix Cloudstack/XenServer environment and having a heck of a time getting VLAN communication to work with the Cisco SG300-28 switches we've got. We have 4 hosts that are running physically connected to 2 SG300-28 switches. The Guest Network NICS are running on XenServer with a VLAN configuration. As you'll see below our problem lies in that the vm on Host1 (10.1.1.254) cannot communicate to the vm on Host2 (10.1.1.5).Our SG300-28 is currently in L2 mode with Trunked ports for the NICS. It's allowed the VLAN 133 as tagged. Here's the guest networking:here's how our SG300-28 are configured for VLAN traffic GE1,2,13,14 are the connected ports with VLAN133 being one of the tagged VLANS

How to set the management interface on a SG300 Switch in Layer 3 mode? I've some vlans configured on the switch with interfaces in each of them:
Vlan 100 (10.0.1.254 /24)
Vlan 200 (10.0.2.254 /24)
Vlan 300 (10.0.3.254 /24)
...
Vlan 900 (10.0.9.254 /24)
Now, the management interface is listening on all interfaces (IPs). But I would like to configure the switch to only listen on 10.0.9.254. What I need to configure or whether it is possible?

I have:
-Procurve 1810-24G
-Procurve 2520-8-PoE
Router (with Internet Connection) is plugged into port 24 of the 1810.My asterisk server is plugged into Port 1 of the 1810.The 2520 is plugged into Port 2 of the 1810, and all of the VoIP phones are plugged into the 2520.Rest of the office computers are plugged into the remaining ports on the 1810.
After setting up the subnet and assigning an ip to the 1810, everything else just worked out of the box. I would imagine that I should segment and prioritize the network so that the VOIP traffic is isolated and is higher priority from everything else.
I tried playing around a bit, but the phones lost connectivity, so I just defaulted everything back for now.
What would the suggestions be for setting up the VLANS properly to do this?I would also need one of the office PC's (say the one plugged into port 13 of the 1810) to be able to access the asterisk server. Also, would it be more optimal to have the asterisk server on the PoE switch or the main switch?

I have recently purchased 2 SG 300 switches, 1 x SG 300 52 & 1 x SG 300 10, and I am hoping getting the following set-up working. To assist I have drawn the following simple network diagram (below) which hopefully makes it a little clearer what I am trying to do:I have 2 companies occupying a single office with the requirement to share printers/devices etc... so basically I am looking to set-up 2 VLANS (say VLAN 10 & VLAN 20) with inter-vlan routing. To add a little complexity the main comms area is located in the basement of the building, this houses the 2 DSL routers and 2 Servers, one for each company. I am proposing putting the SG 300 10 port switch in here and then use the 3 uplinks I have been given to connect back to the SG 300 52 which is in a patch cabinent 2 floors up. I want to use 2 uplinks (in a LAG) for Company A and 1 uplink for Company B. FYI. DHCP is being served out by each respective router.

Both can extablish a IPSEC VPN nicely. Now, B throws a condition that the IP coming thru the VPN has to be PUblic. They want it as such so that they can be routed across the VPN tunnel. It still can because the firewall does not do NAT.

I have been tasked to install the first "hosted & managed" network setup at work. I've actually been tasked to clean this up, since one of the other engineers on my team botched the install. Here's my issue:
A small business customer ordered 4 VoIP phones/numbers, a T1 circuit, and a managed firewall service from my company. We provided them with Cisco 504s, T1 router with two Ethernet ports, a Layer 2 switch for their phones, and a Fortigate firewall to manage their network. They also wanted us to install & configure their Linksys wireless router for net access on their laptops and i Pads. The higher ups decided that V LANs were not an option, and they wanted to have the Voice and data on two separate Ethernet interfaces.
Here's the problem: In the initial work order our T1 router (an Adtran900 series - a reverse engineered Cisco OS) will connect the VoIP phones to the F0/0 interface (using the layer 2 switch) and act as the DHCP server, using Private IP adressing. In order to perform this, the first engineer enacted the Adtran's firewall, configured NAT, and setup an IP policy to allow the phones to communicate (allow any any basically). On the F0/1 interface, the firewall is connected. The Firewall is given a Public IP using the F0/1 address as the default gateway, and performs NAT to their internal data network. The problem is that outbound traffic works fine, and inbound/outbound works on the F0/0 interface where the phones are connected and the Adtran is performing NAT - but I cannot get access the firewall from the outside world. I know the issue has to do with the firewall on the Adtran router, and it trying to block inbound attempts to the public IP block assigned to the second interface. I attempted setup firewall rules to allow all traffic to that sub net and interface, but it did not work. As soon as I disabled the firewall feature on the main router, voila! - the Fortigate firewall was accessible from the outside world. But, this disabled their phones from working, as this disabled NAT for the private IPs for the phones.
Ideally I could use the switch and setup V LANs to segment the voice/data traffic, but that option was denied. I think the way we're doing this is over-complicated, but this is the desired configuration from my boss. He doesn't really understand V LANs and Firewall rules too well, so he wants the two interfaces approach. To make things even more complicated and redundant, I'll need to setup 1-to-1 NAT rules in the Fortinet firewall to allow access to the /29 we have allotted the client for their connections to Ford/GM/& Chrysler. I can't think of an efficient way to make this work - every scenario I come up with hits a roadblock. I've attached a network diagram so this can make some sense. The IPs have been changed.

How can a public ip be traced back to private ip. for instance if the ip is 5.5.5.5 it is traced as
4.4.4.4
2.2.2.2
1.1.1.1
10.10.10.10
5.5.5.5
I thought it could be VPN but then u still need a public facing ip , or can it be the fact that the public ip is router to nat and from nat to internet but then 10 range will need to be converted back to public which does not happen as from the private 10.10.10.10 it moves to the next router which is an isp device and not clients one?
