Cisco Switches :: Slm2024 Firmware Update Failing?

May 5, 2011

I just purchased and installed this switch.  It has firmware version 1.0.0.19 with boot version 1.0.0.1.  I want to update te firmware to 2.0.0.8.  Perhaps I am not doing something correct because when I try to update it I receive an error message that tells me the file is an illegal software format.  Here is what I did.  Under file format went to update firmware select http, update the chose the 2008.ros file.  Start the upgrade but it fails.

Cisco Routers :: Firmware Update Failing - WRVS4400N

Jan 22, 2012

Linksys WRVS4400N Current Firmware Version: V1.00.16

Tried updating the firmware to either of the two version you seem to have available, but fails with:

"Upgrade file is not the correct type or version for this device.  Upgrade failed.  Please obtain the correct file and try again."

Tried this one: WRVS4400Nv2_v2.0.2.1.img
And this one: WRVS4400Nv2-fw-2.0.1.3-K9.img

Then spent 2 hours trying to find how to get support for this product. where I may download the correct firmware for this product?

Cisco Switches :: VLANS Between SGE2010s And SLM2024 Via Fiber

Oct 19, 2011

I have  successfully set up a VLAN on my primary switch which is an SGE2010. I  have 3 other switches is other buildings connected in series. The next  in line is another SGE2010 and then a SLM2024 and an SGE2010. Each are  connected with Fiber and I'm not sure how to set up the switches so that  the router controlling VLAN 2 will push IP addresses to the clients on  that VLAN and allow internet access. We're using it as a guest VLAN for  our customers to have internet access. I have those GBIC ports set up as  trunks right now except for the SLM2024...I'm not quite sure how to set  that up. The VLAN is set up on each switch exactly the same though.

Cisco :: LMS 4.2.3 Device And System Update Failing?

Jan 10, 2013

I have upgraded to prime LMS 4.2.2 (from 4.0.1) and can not perform system or device upgrade. Using wireshark I can see why. it looks like LMS is trying to go to this old web [URL] to get software. I believe this was fixed years ago in bug CSCto46927.

Can I reapply bug fix CSCto46927 on 4.2.3 or is there another fix?

Cisco Wireless :: HWIC-3g-HSPA-G Firmware Or Hardware Failing?

Dec 12, 2011

Within the space of a few days we've had 2  HWIC-3G-HSPA-G cards appear to fail on different router models. In each case the sh cell x/x/x hardware output is empty i.e no firmware version or other data provided and the radio status is off. Attempts to force the interface down using the test ....modem-power-cycle or radio-power off get the same error message that the modem is still in reset. Reloading the router does not clear this so we recently tried to update the firmware using the latest version off CCO. The upgrade using the microcode commands failed with an error of "unable to determine the modem state".

Cisco Switches :: Sf-300 48port Failing 802.1x Re-authentication?

May 11, 2011

I have an issue with the sf-300 switch model, which i am depolying in lapsafe trolleys. The approach is to wake the laptops from the guest VLAN (20) with WOL have them authenticate with 802.1x and use DVA to put the ports in VLAN14 so updates can be pushed to them over night.

I have configured 802.1x, guest vlan and DVA which works initially, all host wake from WOL, the laptops successfully authenticate and are assigned to the VLAN (14). This remains stable for a time then the hosts fail reauthentication. I have also noticed that when a host is disconnected from a port and patched into another port the initial port remains in the authenticated state and the new port authenticates the client but the hostnames are missing on the 'authenticated hosts' page of the GUI, DVA fails. The ports display a port-failure message for a time then moves to failed reauthentication.

The only way I can get it to work again is to reboot the box. From the logs I can see the macs of laptops being rejected and I can also see attribute 26 being ignored. See log below. I am unsure as to why host are initially authenticated but reauthentication fails, is it not the same process?.

I have 11 of these switches and have configured 6 which all display the same behaviour. These switches are not CISCO I do not understand why they have badged them. The protocols/standards are implemented differently. If you incuded 'general ports' as an answer in a CISCO exam you would fail. There are also other issues I have noticed with these boxes, I am not impressed!.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4510 PoE Switches Keep Failing

Jun 11, 2013

We have an issue where switches are failing weekly in a switch closet.  In the past month we have gone through several 3750G switches and a couple 4510s.  The power supplies have eventually made a popping noise and had to be replaced.  on the 4510s we've tried two chassis and gone through several power supplies.The switches have been behind UPS systems so should be receiving conditioned power.Could load from the PoE devices really be causing this?  I wouldn't think it's power since they are behind a UPS.

D-Link DIR-615 :: Can't Update Firmware

Nov 12, 2011

I have a DIR-615 router, hardware rev. C1 running firmware v. 3.10, dated 4/17/09.  I've been beating my head against the wall trying to get this router to properly forward ports for a bit torrent application, but it not only won't do that, it doesn't want to save DHCP reservations and it doesn't want to recognize my computer on the LAN if I set a static IP address (although it does allow my computer to connect and get an internet connection).  From the D-Link website, the description of firmware update 3.12NA looks like it might take care of these problems, but I can't get the router to update.  When I log into the router and check for updates, it returns a message saying the latest update is v. 3.11, dated 9/15/09.  However, when I attempt to download the update, nothing happens.  The D-Link website offers update 3.11NA (4/20/09), 3.12NA (3/8/10), and 3.13NA (9/30/10).  Why does the website offer me a different update than the router itself?  I downloaded 3.13NA and unzipped the folder, which has a text file and a .bin file; I presume the latter is the update.  However, when I browse to this file and attempt to upload it to the router, nothing happens.  How the heck do I update this router?

Cisco Wireless :: Firmware Update For WRVS4400Nv2?

Oct 4, 2009

I have this piece at my home and just realized today that there is a new firmware available on the cisco web page.  It has made the device more stable, but the most noticeable improvement is in the UI.  Previously it was a linksys for business UI that was pretty much exactly like the consumer products.  After the upgrade it is now a Cisco small business UI.  I think that this will make the resellers take the products more seriously as a small business piece rather than an upgraded residential product.

Cisco Routers :: WRVS4400N - Can't Update Firmware

Nov 13, 2012

We need to update the firmware for a small business router WRVS4400N.  Unfortunately, I can't even burn the ISO file to CD after downloading it as instructed. I get the following error message:  "The selected disk image file Isn't valid."  I'm using a Windows 7 Ultimate computer.

I downloaded the proper firmware update for my version V2.0.1.3 router several times, but each time I get the same message.

The main reason we purchased this router for our business for for the extra layer of protection with ProtectLink. It has been over two years now, and we still have not got our ProtectLink service installed because we are unable to install the service until the firmware is updated.

After doing some research online, we found-out that the ISO file needs to be padded to 2 Kb in order to be valid for burning.  The ISO firmware file you provide for this update is not according to my calculations.  We have no way of converting the file myself and don't know what to do about this situation.

We are extremely taken-back at the fact that I must submit my issue here on a forum rather than address the issue directly to Cisco Support. We are very disappointed with Cisco support as they appear to want to charge additional money just to get an initial shipped-problem remedied. You would think that the company that essential built the internet infrastructure would be more considerate to their customers.  We will never purchase another Cisco product given this level of terrible support.

Wifi Down After Router Firmware Update

Apr 19, 2011

Here's what we have at the house;

1 - Motorola Modem (horrible ISP)
2 - Dlink DIR 655 wireless router (about 2-3 years old)
3 - 2 laptops (windows 7/both)
4 - DirecTV broadband box (can't remember how that hooked up to the router?)
5 - Playstation 3
6 - (3) DTV sat receivers

The problem started while trying to connect the PS3 to the existing network. Only one laptop is wifi, the other laptop and Ps3 are in my room and wired in to the router, and the strange little DirecTV box is in the wired mix(for on-demand i guess?) The PS3 could not log-in to the PSNetwork(still can't), but it could browse the web just fine. So I start manually typing in IP addresses, 6 IP's in all, including the sharing of 3 DTV boxes that show up on the network on my admin laptop. Didn't work, so I get into the DLink router URL and start opening up ports that PSNetwork uses. At this point I think I have it figured out, then I did a firmware update on the router. My laptop, the PS3(internet, no PSNetwork) and even the little DTV box was working fine, all wired in, using 3 of the four ports. The old lady's laptop in the living room not only couldn't get on-line, it couldn't detect a wifi network? So try to set up a new real quick before I left this AM.. No beans!! I looked at the specs for the router, the firmware is up to date but from early 2010, and the features say "NO" to gaming support..

Do I get another router that can handle all the devices and is PS3 friendly, if that's even a thing!? I can't roll back the firmware update cause I wasn't able to back up the settings, and honestly theres a good chance I did something really bad as far as trying to tweak that router to open up ports for the specific IP address that goes to the game console. We'll call it 191.55.55.99. When I thought I was finished, the PS3 IP address had switched to 191.55.55.98? So it dropped down a number, I thought it was static, and all my efforts were for the --99 IP address, basically I have network issues consisting of Satalite tv boxes, a public DTV share folder, a video game console, one wired and one wireless, and a router that I WANT TO SET ON FIRE!

RT-N53 5Ghz Radio Gone After Firmware Update

Jan 14, 2013

I have been using the Asus RT-n53 for about a year now and had little to no problems with it. Lately, my wife's iPhone has been dropping its connection to the RT-n53. It was probably a problem with her piece of apple crap, but I thought I would update the firmware on the RT-n53. I found that my firmware was way out of date, so I updated to the latest version.

With the newest firmware installed, I can no longer detect the 5Ghz band with my PlayBook. Before the update, all of the other devices in the house were not 5Ghz capable, so my PlayBook was the only device that used the 5Ghz radio on the RT-n53. Now, the SSID for the 5Ghz band just isn't there any more. In the configuration settings for the RT-n53, everything points to "it should be working"... 5Ghz radio is enabled, SSID broadcast is enabled. I have tried changing the wireless mode from "N Only" to "Auto" to "Legacy". I have fiddled with channel settings, encryption settings, etc. Even tried changing the SSID a few times. Multiple reboot, and still, the 5Ghz SSID just doesn't appear on any devices.
