Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 - Extended Ping With Df Bit Set

Mar 5, 2012

I am trying to test the MTU between two 3750 switches I have in the lab.  I've set the MTU with the command "system mtu 9000" on both switches and rebooted.

The only connections on the switches are the gig ports connecting the two switches.  Each interface is  a member of vlan 1.

I am doing an extended ping.  I set the datagram size to 2000.  When the df bit is set the ping doesn't go through.  If the DF bit is not set the ping goes through.

The debug ip icmp shows, 4d00h: ICMP: dst (1.1.1.1): frag. needed and DF set.

Why is fragmentation needed when the MTU is set to 9000?

GigabitEthernet1/0/1 is up, line protocol is up (connected)
Hardware is Gigabit Ethernet, address is 0015.2b7d.0d01 (bia 0015.2b7d.0d01)
MTU 9000 bytes, BW 1000000 Kbit, DLY 10 usec,

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 - Can't Ping The Default Gateway

May 3, 2012

This would probably sound like a stupid question but it took at least 2 hours of my time so far. I have a 3750 switch where a router and a server is connected. From the switch I can ping the router and server with no issue (directely connected). But from the server I am not able to ping the router. The router and the server are in the same subnet. The router is configured as the default router for the server. I am not able to ping the server from the router either. Here's the output of the ip route from the router. The server IP address is 10.1.200.21 and the router IP address is 10.10.200.1

10.0.0.0/8 is variably subnetted, 8 subnets, 3 masks
C       10.1.30.0/24 is directly connected, FastEthernet0/0.30
C       10.1.20.0/24 is directly connected, FastEthernet0/0.20

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst 3560 / 3750 - Can Ping PC From Switches But Not From PC

We have a couple of Cisco switches and connected a (Windows 7) laptop to one of them and it gets its IP address from a DHCP server.I can now ping the IP from all of the switches, no problem, also not when I log on to the core switch in the same VLAN as both notebooks. But from my (Windows 7) laptop, which is in the same VLAN as the target laptop, I cannot ping it.

I checked, default gateway is good on both sides, as are DNS servers.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Ping From Vlan Interfaces On 3750 Switch

May 27, 2013

 I'm having some trouble getting my head round the following but I think it's routing related?

I have a Cisco 3750 switch with the following configured:

interface Vlan1
ip address 192.168.0.223 255.255.254.0
no ip route-cache

[Code].....

The 3750 is connected to a firewall which handles the routing.  From the 3750 I can only ping remote networks from the vlan1 interface not from vlan6,8 or 10 i.e ping 10.34.37.101 (remote network) source 192.168.0.223 (vlan1) works but ping 10.34.37.101 source 10.74.10.1 (vlan10) does not?  I can ping 10.34.37.101 from computers on the various vlans but not from the 3750 it self.

I looked at setting a default gateway for the various vlan interfaces

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Unable To Ping VPN 3005 Concentrator From Telnet Session In 3750

Feb 7, 2012

The network is set up like this.

Host -----> 3750 (classic) running IPSERVICES stack ----> 3550 router -----> VPN 3005 Concentrator.

IP routing is disabled on the 3750 (it's acting solely as a switch) IP routing is enabled with an EIGRP process running on the 3550 router that has the network for the 3005 broadcasting.

I can ping the vpn 3005 concentrator from a telnet session in the 3550 but not from the 3750.I can ping between the 3750 and the 3550 vlan management interfaces.  Visually speaking it's like this

3750 ------> 3550  [Success!!!!]
3550 ------> VPN 3005 Concentrator [Success!!!!]
3750 ------> 3550 --xxxx--> VPN 3005 Concentrator [Timeout....]

I know this because I tracerout to the 3005 from the 3750 and it resolved the default gateway configured for the 3550 properly but then started timing out.

The 3750 is trunked to the 3550.

3750 is vtp client mode
3550 is vtp server mode

I'm wondering if there's a layer 2 issue involved here as it is a VTP domain and maybe it's not returning properly.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: CAT3750E No Longer Use Multiple Ports Within Extended ACL

Mar 12, 2012

I was wondering why can't we no longer use the multiple ports within an extented ACL like I use to do it in a CAT3750E.I have IOS-XE Software, Catalyst 4500 L3 Switch Software (cat4500e-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 03.02.00.SG.I wanted to create an ACL like so [code] But when I do, it tells me that I cannot do it.... I can only add 1 tcp port to my ACL line. I tried to search the "object-group" concept also but it's not implemented in this IOS.Can this be done in IOS-XE ?I'm migrating my enviroment from a CAT3750E stack to a C4510-E.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 / Creating Extended VLans And Subinterface?

Jan 24, 2013

We have a 3560 switch running IOS universalk9-mz.150-1.SE3.bin.Recently, we saw two problems with this switch:-

1. if we try to enable subinterface on any routed interface , for eg. gig1/1, it says invalid input detected. It doesnt accept encapsulation command also.   Following was done to enable subinterface:

   int gig1/1
  no ip address
  int gig1/1.2000
  ip address 1.1.1.1

under the gi1/1.2000 subinterface, it doesnt present the option of ip address.

2. we created a layer 2 vlan 2000 like:   vlan 2000 When we do an exit after creating this vlan , it gives following error:-

%SW_VLAN-4-VLAN_CREATE_FAIL: Failed to create VLANs 2000: extended VLAN(s) not allowed in current VTP mode

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4503 -MAC Access-list Extended To Only Allow Gateway Traffic

Nov 7, 2011

We have a gateway on a 4503, say on port 2/1, and we only want the other devices that are plugged into the 4503 to be able to talk to the gateway and thats it.  The other devices are Motorola TUT DSL devices and they plug into the 4503 directly.

Normally "switchport protected" would make this very easy to keep stuff on one port from talking to other ports but with 4500's you are not able to do that command.  So we implemented a MAC Access-List Extended ACL.  Here is what we did

mac access-list extended BLAH
permit #host 0000.XXXX.YYYY any
interface range fa 2/5 - 20
mac access-group BLAH out

The MAC address 0000.XXXX.YYYY is the MAC address of the gateway that is plugged into Fa2/1 and the DSL TUT devices are plugged into ports Fa2/5-20.  We would think that this config would only allow devices on the TUT DSL to talk only to the Gateway but we don't really think this is happening.  The TUT devices are learning about MAC addresses that are on other TUT devices.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst 4505 - Write Extended ACL For Voice VLan

May 14, 2012

I am trying to write an extended ACL for the voice vlan.My scenario is the following:I have two PBXs with two Catalyst 4505 L3 switches.The C4505 are connected trough a trunk link.I have a VTP domain configured.

Voice VLANs are Vlan 100 and Vlan 101 with networks 10.2.0.0/16 and 10.4.0.0/16 Voip telephones are communicating between them self and everything is working fine.I want to secure both voice VLANs with an ACL to allow only couple of IPs to administer the phones.The PCs are connected trough a integrated switch via VOIP telephone.Here is the sample configuration of the dhcp pool for the PC VLAN:

ip dhcp pool PCs
   network 10.1.0.0 255.255.0.0
   default-router 10.1.1.1
   dns-server 10.10.10.1
   option 43 hex 010a.5369.656d.656e.7300.0000.0204.0000.0064.0000.0000.00ff

I had to implement the 43 hex option because the PCs did not get the ip from the DHCP because of the vendor specific information.The thing that worries me is will the DHCP forward the ACKs for the PCs if I implement this test ACL:

ip access-list extended VLAN100
permit ip 10.2.0.0 0.0.255.255 10.4.0.0 0.0.255.255
permit ip 10.4.0.0 0.0.255.255 10.2.0.0 0.0.255.255
permit ip 192.168.2.0 0.0.0.255 10.2.0.0 0.0.255.255
permit ip 192.168.2.0 0.0.0.255 10.4.0.0 0.0.255.255
permit udp host 0.0.0.0 eq bootpc host 255.255.255.255 eq bootps  (this I am not sure do I need)
permit udp host 255.255.255.255 eq bootps host 0.0.0.0 eq bootpc   (also this)
deny   ip any any

I only want to allow the network 192.168.2.0/24 and maybe some other hosts to access the web based http gui to adiminister the IP phones.All PCs are connected trough the VOIP terminals. I do not want to deny the traffic to PCs.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560G Can Ping Devices In Enterprise LAN But Cannot Ping Interface

I have a new 3560G to set up a small network for a remote site. I configured the vlan and an SVI as the gateway. The switch is also the DHCP server for the LAN. I configured Gi0/2 as L3 port, connecting to the nearest neighbor. My network runs EIGRP so i advertised the routes into the EIGRP process. The switch forms EIGRP neighbors and learns all routes in the enterprise network. The problems I'm having now are: 1. The switch learns all routes in my enterprise LAN and can ping devices in the enterprise LAN, but I can’t ping any interface on the switch from the enterprise LAN. 2.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Can Ping From R1 To R3 SVI4 Gateway But Cannot Ping Host

Dec 12, 2011

I set this up and I can ping all the gateways but never the hosts.  I was hoping I could make these links between 6500's a mix of L2 and L3.  Check it out.  They are connected in a linear fashion R1--->R2--->R3.  I can ping from R1 to R3's SVI4 gateway but I can never ping a host on that SVI4.  I was hoping that I could use the port-channels between 6500's as routed links or as trunk links depending on the type of traffic....thought it would ease the migration.  I suppose I could always get rid of the port-channels and just make separate L2 and L3 links between the 6500's.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Replacing 3750 24 Port With 3750 48 Port?

May 21, 2012

We have a stack of switches that is at the max number of members allowed in the stack. Problem is we are running out of port density and need to add more ports. So instead of adding a whole new stack I would rather replace 2 of the 24-port swicthes with 48-port switches.

If the two 24-port swicthes we are removing are stack members and neither of them are the stack master, I should be able to replace the 24-port switches with the 48-port switches without bringing the master offline? If the new 48-port switches are running the same IOS version as the current 24-port swicthes, they should add themselves to the stack?Would I have to tell the new 48-port swicthes what switch numbers they are replacing in order for them to be added to the stack since we are at the max number of members?Also since the 48-port swicthes are replacing 24-port switches will the master give the 48-port switches the configuration for only the 24-ports?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Multiple VLAN Routing Tables For 3750 Catalyst

Oct 24, 2012

I have a network with a Catalyst 3750 as the main switch and then some Catalyst 2960 switches that are plugged in to that. I have a server running windows server 2008 with a couple of virtual machines running in Hyper-V. I created 4 VLANS listed below and gave the 3750 the following IP Address.I would like the 3750 to only be configurable from VLAN 40 but currently every VLAN can connect to it, I noticed in the standard web page settings there was a setting for "Management VLAN" but it was set to 1 and would not let me change it, I kinda assumed that was for the management port in the back.-Now the tricky part, I was trying to set up routing between the VLANs and so far I have only been able to get a sort of "all or nothing" routing to work. I can turn IP routing on and add two or more VLANs to the routing and it works fine. But what I was hoping to do is create a couple of "junction vlans" that would only route to one or two other vlans. For instance, I wanted to create a VLAN 100 that routed to VLAN 20 and 30 but nothing else. I also want to route VLAN 1 just to VLAN 30, and so on. I am able to do each one of the cases but only one, it seems like the switch only supports one "routing table" am I missing something or is this just a limitation of the switch?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst 3750 Multi-cast VLAN Routing

Oct 28, 2012

I have a network with several catalyst 2960 switches and one catalyst 3750. I have created two VLAN and set up the proper routing and everything is working fine there. I have a client/server application that used multicast in the initial start up for the client to determine available servers, the issue is one of my clients is on a different VLAN then the server. I am able to route the multicast using MVR as long as both the server and the client are plugged into the 3750 by creating a static route, making the server a source port and the client a receive port. Unfortunately I need the client and the server plugged in to different 2960s. My question is how do I establish multicast routing between the two and perferably do it dynamically (always route multicast traffic from one VLAN to another).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3825 / Replacing Routing Function With 3750 Switch?

Jul 27, 2012

I have the task of replicating the router config on a 3825 router on a 3750 switch. Reason is we are taking out the router and replacing it with the switch to make use of the router for other functions.

Below is main part of the router config:

!
ip source-route
ip cef
!
!
multilink bundle-name authenticated
!
license udi pid CISCO3825 sn FCZxxxxxxx
!
vlan internal allocation policy ascending

[code].....

The 3750 switch I have runs C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M, Version 12.2(55)SE3 on a LAN BASE license.

The first thing I have done is to order for a license upgrade to IP BASE which would give the support for OSPF routing.I do not see much of an issue with the Interface configs, however, I am not too sure about replicating the routing config on the switch.

My question is can I run the commands as shown for the OSPF routing on the switch? If not, can I get suggestions on how best to set this up on the switch?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: InterVlan Routing With 3750 And 2960 Switches?

The trunk lines are configured and working and I have assigned ip addresses to each of the Vlan interfaces on the 3750. My issue is that I can only ping the ip address on the Vlan interface of the 3750 if I have a working computer plugged directly into the Vlan on the 3750. I only have 3 vlans on the 3750 that have hosts directly connected (vlans 2, 10 and 40) the other vlans ( 20 and 70) don't have any clients plugged into them on the 3750 but the hosts reside on 2 different 2960s that connect via trunk ports. How do I keep the vlan interface on the 3750 switch pingable when I don't have hosts directly connected in that vlan on the 3750? (yes, I have enabled ip routing on the 3750)

Assigned policy to the user vlan3:

ip policy route-map TestASA
