i'd like to know if there's a routed switch lower than 3750x?  also 2960s? but have equal functionality like switchport mode access, trunking, spanning-tree, etherchannel, etc.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6500 VSS Architecture With Two Equal Cost Paths To A Destination?

I have a query on how the 6500s running in VSS mode would route the traffic over an OSPF environment where it has leant about two equal cost paths, but one via the 2nd chassis.Proposed setup - 2 6509s running in VSS. Switch-1 in VSS has a layer 3 connection (via a LES circuit) to one of a pair of Nexus 7Ks at another office. Switch-2 in the VSS has another layer 3 connection (via LES by another provider) to the other N7K at the other office. The L3 connections would use /30 ranges and allow each Nexus to form an ospf neighbour relationship with the VSS. We want to keep both offices environments separate so although we do have L2 circuits we're using these to provide L3 connectivity between sites & exchange routing info via them using ospf.

Each Nexus will advertise all the directly connected networks it knows about to the 6509s running in VSS. Thus I couldn't figure out if for example we have users/servers behind our VSS 6509s, these would need to go via their default gateway to get to a network located off the LAN, the default gw ip in VSS setup exisits on the control plane on switch-1 (in normal operation). Then to get to a network that is located off the Nexuses at the other site it would have 2 equal cost paths to it, however one of these paths would be via the VSL link and off the switch-2 chassis. I wasn't therefore sure if we'd actually ever see any transmit traffic via the 2nd L3 connection because I have a funny feeling that I've read the VSS always choses the local chassis egress rather than going via the VSL to use another port...
 
All of the above is theorectical at the moment as currently both circuits are connected to a single Nexus/6509 chassis however for improved resilence I want to move one of the circuits to be physically attached to the other Nexus & 6509 chasis at each site but I wasn't then sure how the traffic flows would be affected.

Well I have been back and forth on this a while now...I have a 6513E chassis that is getting prepped for prod. I am currently testing sso functionality and I can only get it to work using the following images on both Sup Cards.

If I try any other image, smaller or bigger in size...it forces my Sup card in mod 8 to recycle " proxy request from peer ". I have tried K9 images and non K9 images. Here is an output from sh redundancy.

Based on what i am reading on the Catalyst 3850 datasheet, the controller functionality comes by default if i have a IP Base of IP Services license on the switch. Is this correct or do i need additional license to enable the controller functionality?What capabilities does below license provide ?

I am configuring some quotes for a customer whom I will be building a wireless network for.  The wireless network will support about 60 AP's, as well as some other wired drops.  The customer is working with a wireless vendor for the AP's, but I will be able to sell the switches for the network.
 
I want to ensure that he is pushing Gig and POE on each copper port for the AP's, since they will be "N" capable.  I have selected several 3560 models which are in 24 port models, and I also think i have a requirement which mandates a 48 port in another location.  What I have not been able to find in the Enterprise switch line is an 8 port which supports IOS and POE.
 
That being said, and since I am also "Select" certified, I went out to the SMB site, and did find that there were two models in the Small Business 300 line (models SG300-10P and SG300-10MP) which seem to support Gig ports as well as POE.  I looked over the specs for each one of the two respective models, and I was not able to find what the difference between each of these two are.  In other words, the specs, line by line, were identical.

I have several older 2950's running on my network. This one in particular became of interest to me because I couldn't set up SSH on it or enable any QoS features on it, so I did some research. What I found was there are basically 2 versions of the IOS, c2950-i6q4l2 or c2950-i6k2l2q4. I also read that the c2950-i6q4l2 IOS versions (like the one in the switch I am referring to) have both the SI and EI feature sets integrated, but the one that gets enabled is entirely dependent upon the switch model you are running it on. Did I understand this correctly? Does the IOS check the hardware on the switch and then decide with feature set to use? If so, what is prohibiting the EI feature set from being enabled on this switch? Is there a way to force the EI feature set to be enabled since it is integrated in this image?

Currently we have cisco 4503 switch in one of our location without redundancy which servers below,
 
300 user (desktop & ip phones)
5 vlans
15 access switches are connected
one L3 connectivity.
 
Actually i want to understand is it really necessary to have 4503 or we can go for 4900 series as we are planning to have  redundancy in distribution segment.
 
Which is the best L3 switch in the above scenario and how to measure the  overall performance of the current 4503 switch...

I am testing BPDU filter with 3560 model switch so I've looped 2 interfaces in that switch by configuring STP BPDU filter on interface levels and also connected one desktop in other interface on same vlan of looped interfaces with bpdufilter config. I am facing is both the looped interfaces are having heavy traffic due to this my switch CPU utilization also reached high. How to sort out this issue like why my switch interfaces traffic & CPU utilization went high even when I am using BPDU filter at interface level? As well as correct my BPDU configuration If I configured wrong. I thought it is a good practice and enabled this conf in some of my working environment but due to some loop my entire network went down?

Linksys Cable / DSL :: Lower Transfer Speeds After Switching To WAG320N?

I just recently purchased a Linksys WAG320N and replaced a setup with Linksys AM200 modem and a good ole Linksys WRT54GL. Problem is that after the switch i immediately got around 100 KB lower transfer speeds no matter what source i use or kind of transfer i perform. If i earlier got for example 860KB/sec i now only gets 760KB/sec.I´ve set the modem/router up pretty much using the default values, are there any settings i could change to get a more efficient use of my bandwidth? I am using the provided network cable that came with the WAG320N, but i have also tested with other cat 5 cables. The file transfers are taking place using cable attached devices only.

I was testing on 802.1x function on Catalyst 2950. the funtion itself work fine with my radius. but after I have setup the aaa new-model, I have no access to my switch!everytime I telnet it prompt me username, but I didn't create any user!!
 
how to recover to the origianl status, just prompt to input password but not username needed, and with 802.1x enable ofcause. [code]

I am looking into the possibility of using private vlan's for some dmz implementations however I do have what may be some very rudimentary questions. It seems straightforward how to configure the primary/secondary vlan configuration as well as associating them. However in my case I would be looking to configure the PVLAN on a 6500-vss platform acting as the router while all of the hosts which I would desire to have in the isolated vlan would be spread out across a number of older Cisco switches which only support "protected port" setup or Procurve switches all of which I do not have budget to replace with something newer. So in my scenario I would have a 6500 connected by trunk to multiple switches which only support a protected port setup such as a Procurve (top of rack) or a Cisco 2950. As the Procurve or 2950 would not support Private VLAN setup, do I then just configure the secondary vlan to be allowed across the trunk from the 6500, configure that vlan on the Procurve or 2950 (as vtp will not foward the info for the secondary vlan) and assign that vlan to the host port as well as setting it as a protected port and this will communicate just fine across the trunk to the router as well as stopping the protected port in top of rack switch 1 from being able to communicate to a protected port in top of rack 2,3,etc? If the above scenario is what needs to be done, do I just use a regular trunk or do I have to use a PVLAN trunk?

i cant find any difference in these two devices when i am trying to compare throughput.I need upgrade our new POP and there will be around 4900 MAC adresses in VLAN 150 and 130 MAC adresses in vlan 200.Uplink is 1 gig routed internet connection and there is 14 downlinks to separate villages.i found a few differences for eg stack interface on 3750x but i dont need it.

I have a stack of 2 x 3750X switches these are running 12.2(55)SE5. I needed to add some static IP routes and found that the ‘ip routing’ command is not supported. I came across a document that stated “On switches running the LAN base feature, static routing on VLANs is supported only with Cisco IOS Release 12.2(58)SE and later.” So I have upgraded to 12.2(58)SE2, but ‘ip routing’ is still not a valid command.
 
The release notes state:“On the Cisco Catalyst 3560-X and 3750-X Series, it adds support for 16 static IPv4 routes in the LAN Base image.”
 
I have read other posts that talk about running the ‘sdm prefer routing’ command which I have done, but I am still unable to add any routes or run the ‘ip routing’ command.

I have an 1811 with several subnets connected to it.I recently installed a 3750x plant and want to bring my interior routing back to it.
 
All the routing is handled by the 1811 via secondary interfaces on vlan1?
 
I have 192 ports, and subnets show up on almost all of them.  None of the ports are assigned to any specific vlans.  Most ports have several subnets on them.
 
What is the best approach to getting the 3750x to handle the routing?

I am setting up a vm environment for a customer in my lab off site. I have two stacked 3750-x switches, a san, and threes UCS c220 M3S servers for hosts. I am trying to separate the lan traffic, san iscsi traffic, and san management traffic using vlans. The problem is i'm unable to communicate cross vlan with my current config, which I have attached to this post. The only noteworthy things in my conifg is that the ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.83.6 is referring to a switch stack they have on site, that I will connect this stack to using the first two trunk ports on each switch, that I do not have here in the lab. I don't want to cause any confusion in why I have things set a certain way.

There seems to be a lot of conflicting information on what can and can't stack together in the 3750X range.
 
I know that LAN Base can only stack with other LAN Base switches.
 
Can IP Base stack with IP services in 3750X? I have also heard that the 15.x.x IOS restricts mixed feature set stacks?
 
I know that Cisco recommends that all switches in a stack have the same IOS and feature set but having all IP Services in a stack can get too expensive.

I'm trying to review a QoS setup, and I'd like to make sure I fully understand the current setup before I change anything. I'm seeing output drops on two different queue-thresholds, but not sure how packets are making it to one of the queues.

I can find queue4-threshold3 in the mappings, but how are packets getting mapped to queue2-threshold1? The priority queue is disabled for this interface, so I'm not sure how this queue is dropping packets, according to the maps nothing is mapped to 02-01.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750X Power Needs For PoE

I am building a switch stack using 4 48 port 3750X switches that will also have the power stacked.  If I install a single 715W power supply in each switch will the stack support 802.3af accross all 48 ports on each switch?  My calculations are 48 ports x 15.4W which gives me almost 740W needed which is over hte 715W power supply.  I was reading somewhere were it mentioned that in a powerstack additional power can be drawn from the stack.  I know this will not work if you are trying to support power on all switches accross all ports but would it if say 2 of the 4 switches are needing to provide PoE accross all 48 ports?  If I say we can only use 24 ports per switch for PoE that drops the power need down to 370W which I believe should work.  Just trying to get a better understanding of PoE consumption.  Would the best solution be to just add a second power supply to each switch?

we are replacing network equipment at one of our sites. The network will have 12, 3750X switches(6 stacks) - one stack will be the core. A 1002 will be the WAN router to the Main campus. The 1002 will connect to the core via 2 ethernet cables. I'm debating whether to use L3 or L2 between the router and Core. I've heard that routing is more efficient if L3 is used and also I will be able to create an L3 etherchannel  between the 1002 and Core switch. See the attached doc.

This 3750X stack (3 members) has some 100% cpu spikes. Is this bad enough to start tracking down the cause(s) or is this somewhat typical and not a reason for concern? I just took this reading. How can you detemine when the 100% and 80% spikes occurred?

This is my scenario. I have my IP as 172.16.1.1 (aaaa.bbbb.cccc.dddd) which has full internet access.  Now when i am not available in the office, i noticed some one assigning my IP in to his workstation and gaining full internet access. How do i restrict such things? i.e. even if some one assigning my IP on the network, they shouldnt access LAN or WAN.I tried 'arp 172.16.1.1 aaaa.bbbb.cccc.dddd arpa' configuring on my L3 Cisco 3750X switch assuming i can acheive, but that did not work.
