Cisco Switching/Routing :: AP1141 WAP IP Address Config / Routing

Dec 28, 2011

This is my first time trying to configure a WAP for out network.  I have an AP1141 connecting to an SG300-28 switch.  The subnet for my WAPs is 10.10. 40.0/ 24.  The rest of my internal network is 10.10.10.0/24.  There are four other WAPs on the 10.10.40.0/24 network that I did not configure.  When I assign an IP address - 10.10.40.7 to my WAP with the gateway as 10.10.40.100 (router), I cannot ping anything.  If I assign the WAP an IP address - 10.10.10.192 with the gateway 10.10.10.100 (router), I can ping everything.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: ESW-520-24P Not Passing DHCP Requests From AP1141

Dec 14, 2011

Cisco Small Business Switch POE ESW-520-24P with a Wireless Access Point Cisco Aironet AP1141. Both the devices are upgraded to the latest firmware.

Connected to the ESW-520-24P is a Windows 2008 SBS 2011 with DCHP and Domain Controller. Along with the server I have a number of wired computers connected to the switch which do not have any issues and connect to the DHCP server without any problems.

When connecting two wireless devices to the AP1141, they get the IP address and DHCP from the server; but when connecting other devices apart the first two they will fail to connect to the DHCP server and do not get any IP Address. They manage to connect to the Wireless access point but they cannot contact the DHCP server.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: QOS Config On 3560 Switch

Jul 22, 2012

I'm in the process of configuring QOS on a 3560 routing switch in a GOLD, SILVER, BRONZE priority type scenario.

Firstly, I understand that this config will add a tag of "precedence 5" to a packet if it matches the "ACL_QOS_GOLD_In" access list. Question is does the router see this "precedence 5" tag and then sets the priority, or am I missing something in my config where at present it just sees the "precedence 5" and doesn’t act on it ?

Secondly, Since the "precedence 5" tag has already been added to the packets, do downstream routers see this tag and act accordingly or so I need to configure those is well ? [code]

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 1941 Don't Have Access To Config At Moment

Oct 28, 2012

I don't have access to my config at the moment and I haven't had a chance to get to the console of this router as of yet.A little background info:This is a Cisco 1941 router in which I have multiple NAT inside interfaces for internal VLANs. Before my current problem I was using one NAT outside interface for Internet access with another NAT outside connecting to our corporate network that was in a shutdown state. The router is performing router on a stick and had layer 3 subinterfaces for each VLAN. I have ACLs filtering on each subinterfaces allowing only the traffic I need through.I also currently only have one static NAT port for an FTP server. The time finally came when I had to connect our corporate network to this router via an access port on a 2950 which trunks to the router. The problem comes when I send any traffic to the subinterfaces on the corporate network which is the second NAT outside interface on the router. The main point for this connection is to do a static NAT from this interface to a web server on another VLAN. Any traffic to this interface including just pinging from the outside causes connection to the router to fail for about 3-4 min.Like I said I haven't ha the chance to get to the console yet Sony cant tell everything that happens. Nothing shows up in the logs after I can get connection back and the router didn't reboot as a "show version" says the router has been up for a long time. The CPU is also usually very low as not that much traffic flows through this router at a time.I built a very similar network in packet tracer and it works just fine.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: ME 4900 Private VLAN Config

Feb 9, 2012

We need to connect several DSLAMs on the 4900 switch, every DSLAM has 4 VLANs configured (VOIP service, MGMT, ADSL Private, ADSL Public), and sends the traffic for each service tagged with appropriate VLAN id according to the table:

VOIP: 608
MGMT: 594
ADSL PRIVATE: 2900
ADSL PUBLIC: 2930

On the DSLAM side it is very simple configuration, just a normal trunk with 4 VLANs transversing the link. On the 4900 I need to isolate the traffic for ADSL PRIVATE & PUBLIC service so DSLAMs connected to the same switch do not have L2 connectivity between them. For VOIP and MGMT they must communicate with each other. DSLAM acts also as a VOIP GW so it must communicate with other DSLAMs for VOIP service. Also VLAN 200 is configured on ME 4900 for switch management traffic.

This 4900 Switch connects to MPLS PE router, which offers L3 VPN service for VOIP & MGMT service, and L2 VPN for ADSL service (PPPoE traffic to BRAS). Fortunately we have ES+ linecard to support many ethernet features. I tried this config:

1) VOIP, DSLAM-MGMT, MPLS-MGMT configured as normal VLANs
2) ADSL PUBLIC & PRIVATE configured as isolated secondary VLANs, primary VLAN for ADSL PRIVATE is 2008, for PUBLIC 2308
3) Configure DSLAM facing ports on ME 4900 as private-vlan trunks
4) Configure ME 4900 uplink port to MPLS PE as a private-vlan promiscous trunk
5) Configure ethernet services on MPLS PE for each tag that comes from ME 4900 (ES+ cards are awesome, i love them:D )
6) Apply L3 VPN service for VOIP and DSLAM-MGMT, and L2 VPN for ADSL service.

But at least this last command should list on spanning tree forwarding state also the ADSL VLANs or not?

Here is the output of the show interface switchport.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 Lab Switch Control And Config Restore

I am in the process of setting up an interop lab for some engineers. The enviornment will consist of some 3750's, H3C's and ProCurves. My concern is that the end user will have Priv-Exec access for CLI usage on the 3750's and they can change the "en" password (I hope they don't but it has happened). Is there a way I can "break in" during the boot process to reset the password? The reason I am doing it this way is because I have an Altiris server with rebuild automation scripts in xpect and I would like to automate the process so I do not have to use a manual factory default reset.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: SF 300-24 Switch Won't Boot After VLAN Config / Reboot

Jul 28, 2012

I was trying to configure an SF 300-24 for use in my home and obviously did something dumb. It was working fine. The f/w was updated and I had configured 2 VLANs. VLAN2 was ports 1-6+GE1 for IPTV streaming and VLAN3 was ports 7-24+GE2 and GE3 for the rest of my LAN. I was plugged into GE4 and was configuring the switch with a laptop. GE4 was the only port still on the default VLAN1. I chaged the default VLAN to VLAN3, which forced a reboot and the switch never came back up. Attached is what I see when I connect to the console port: [code]

I can't access to GUI using it's static IP or it's default IP on any port and the console never reaches the point where I can log in. The System light is flashing green but the boot sequence never progresses past what's in the screen shot. I tried to do a hard reset using the recessed button on the front panel but it does not seem to have any effect, no matter how long I hold it down.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6500 STP Config On Port-channel Best Practice

Apr 3, 2012

I have 2 cisco 6500 in a VSS configuration , All of my Lan access switches are Stack switches and every Stack is connected to the VSS in a Port-channel so basically this is a loop free environment with no blocked ports .As a best practice I left STP in the Background (mstp)which enhanced cisco features to STP should I configure on the Aggregator (6500-VSS) and on the Access switches ?

Because of my topology I dont see the need in configuring most features like Uplink Fast and Backbone Fast but I have configured Loop Guard in addition to UDLD on the 6500 Aggregation Switches (on the port-channels).On the access ports I have configured portfast , bpduguard and guard root (seems a little pointless to configure the two...)

1.should I Leave UDLD on and get rid of LoopGuard and configure Guard root instead ? since LoopGuard cannot be configured with Guard Root.

2.should I configure GuardRoot on access ports if I already have BpduGuard on them ?

3.Is there anything I need to configure on the physicall interface or is everything configured on the port-channel since STP reguards port- channel as a single interface ?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6509 - Multiple Line Cards Down After Config

May 28, 2013

I recently changed the entire configuration on two 6509 switches, and the fibre modules on slot 7 and 8 have gone down on BOTH switches. It would be easy to say that its a hardware fault but I cannot understand how module 7 and 8 can go down on both switches. Initially I thought it maybe due to IOS bug 22-33.SXI2a.bin" so I upgraded it to s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF12a.bin but it still down. These are the actions I have carrried out to try resolve the issue:

- Reverted back to orginal configs but no luck

- Tried to use "power enable" command but the status light on both modules seems to turn red and then go off again.

- I have also tried to put one of the fibre modules into a different slot but no joy

- Upgraded the IOS from 22-33.SXI2a. to 122-18.SXF12a

I am sure that hardware fault cannot occur on BOTH modules 7 & 8 on BOTH switches after config change. The error in the log shows that modules "failed to bring online because of registration timer event". I understand this means that it is unable to download the image within the allocated time. [code]

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2600 Switch Ports Don't Even Show Up On Router Config

Jan 10, 2012

My network generally runs older routers (2600 series) with 16 port switch modules (NM-ESW-16).   This has always worked great since I can configure the router and the switch ports on the fly, making changes to either as necessary.  Well I am upgrading to 2811 routers, and we wanted to get gigabit ethernet ports on our switch modules.  I think I made an error when I purchased a few of these switch modules:  NME-16ES-1G.

The first problem, is that the switch ports don't even show up on the router config, I have to establish a session into the switch, (And I can't seem to get back to the router unless I manually switch off power and restart).  I don't like this type of switch module, it's like I'm running a completely separate device, and while having a layer 3 switch is cool, It doesn't let me setup routing protocols so I don't like doing it this way.  I want to go back to using a switch module that simply adds a ton of ports to my router like the NM-ESW-16.  (Note:  The NM-ESW-16 does actually work in the 2811 and would be perfect if it were Gigabit speed.)

The seconds problem is that the NME-16ES-1G isn't actually a Gigabit switch.  It has a single gigabit port, but the 16 ports are all Fastethernet, and not gigabitethernet.  So ideally, I am looking for a switch module that I can fully configure from the router interface that has 16 gigabitethernet ports, and works with a 2811. IE I want to do this. [code]

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Config Erasing Automatically On C500 And 2960 Switches?

Feb 8, 2012

I have a scenario where 15 c500 switches and 5 2960 8 port switch connected to 4507R core switch. There are 10 dhcp pools created on the 4507.

Eg:   ip dhcp pool XXXX
        network xxxx.xxxxxxx
        default-router x.x.x.x

Now the default router is directed to vlans created on the switch i.e vlan 101, 102, 103 and so on. Now the remaining switches connected are configured to be in the same vlan. So the systems connected to the edge switches will get the DHCP ip automatically, Now my problem is after sometime (may be 2 or 3 hrs) all the edge switches are losing configuration automatically even though it's not restarted, even after saving the config on to nvram, everytime I connect the console and check all the saved config is lost?
