Cisco Switching/Routing :: Does 3750 / 3560 Switch Support Eigrp Or Ospf

Feb 17, 2013

I believe the answer is yes, but incorperating more layer 3 features of our 3750's, I want to know if they fully support EIGRP or OSPF?

Also for a small business of 4 locations, each with a 10mbps fiber and a 1.5mbps mpls... wouldn't you say EIGRP would be easier?  Want to look at making the failover automatic if the 10mbps fiber goes down between a site, then the network fails over to 1.5mbps mpls. When the fiber returns in service then the network automatically preferr the fiber again.

Currently we use static routes and if there is a provider outage we have to manually edit the config to flip flop the routes.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560X-24P-L Switch OSPF Support?

Mar 21, 2012

I acquired a 3560X-24P-L Switch which I wanted to use at our datacenter.  However, I need a switch that supports OSPF.  It came with a Universal IOS but there was no "Router" command under conf t.  I downloaded and applied the latest "IP Base" IOS, but still no Router OSPF.  Based on the matrix here > [URL] I thought "IP Base" supported OSPF, but what exactly is "OSPF for routed access" ?  Do I actually need an "IP Services" IOS?  From my download options, I do not see an IP Services IOS for the 3560X-24P-L so I'm left to assume that the switch does not support L3 / OSPF.  So my question is this particular switch supports L3 / OSPF and what is Universal IOS?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: C2691-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M / Redistribute OSPF / EIGRP Commands

Dec 18, 2011

I was reading my book when I found  :

redistribute ospf 2 external 2

The book says  only ospf external routes of type 2 will be redistributed.But when I tried to configure the above command on router, I was not able to configure it; there was no external or internal option available with redistribute ospf command.

Below is the output:

R2(config)#router rip
R2(config-router)#redistribute ospf 1 ?
  match      Redistribution of OSPF routes
  metric     Metric for redistributed routes
  route-map  Route map reference
  vrf        VPN Routing/Forwarding Instance
  <cr>

R2# show version

Cisco IOS Software, 2600 Software (C2691-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.4(15)T6,     RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

Do we have such command for eigrp? For example  If i want to redistribute only external routes from eigrp into ospf,  do we have any command  such as  :redistribute eigrp 1 external ?I understand there is several ways to achieve to same goal however I am just curious if we could acheive the same goal using single redistribute eigrp  command without any route-map.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 OSPF Across Trunks

Nov 7, 2011

I am beginning to implement OSPF into the network I work on. I have a network which consists of multiple 4500, 6500 series routers and 3560s. Each switch has its own set of VLANs. In other words VLAN X on one switch is not the same as VLAN X on another switch. I had envisioned connecting each switch via trunk links and then routing via the loopback addresses on each device. That didn't work. Then I created a VLAN 100 on each switch. Each one was configured with an IP in the same subnet range (10.3.0.1 and 10.3.0.2). I added these addresses to the OSPF process in area 0. It worked. However, this is not desired. I have not seen many examples of 4500 layer 3 switches configured with OSPF. The examples I have seen show the interfaces configured with IPs.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 - Advertise Default Routes From EIGRP Stub?

Feb 13, 2013

I have a 3560 with IP base that is acting as a true EIGRP stub router today.  It advertises local routes to the upstream service provider router and receives a default route.

Now I want to connect a 3900 ISR as a voice gateway.  The 3560 does not seem to be advertising any routes to the 3900.  Ok the EIGRP stub doc says this:

Only specified routes are  propagated from the remote (stub) router. The router responds to queries  for summaries, connected routes, redistributed static routes, external  routes, and internal routes with the message "inaccessible." A router  that is configured as a stub will send a special peer information packet  to all neighboring routers to report its status as a stub router.

# Any neighbor that receives a packet informing it of the stub status will  not query the stub router for any routes, and a router that has a stub  peer will not query that peer. The stub router will depend on the  distribution router to send the proper updates to all peers.

I guess I don't understand why the stub advertises local routes to the upstream ISP router but does not seem to advertise routes to the 3900.  Does the stub identify the ISP router as the distribution router somehow, thus differentiating it from the 3900?  If so, how is this done?

show ip eigrp neighbor detail on the 3900:

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 - OSPF Load Sharing Design

Sep 16, 2012

We have our network setup as displayed in the attached. We have 2 HQ offices and 1 branch office. The branch office needs to connect to resources located at both HQs but taking the most effecient path. We have ethernet circuits connecting from each HQ to 2 x Cisco 3560 switches in the branch. HSRP has been configured on the 3560 switches with SW1 as active and SW2 as standby. OSFP has been configured in a single area 0 and the path cost on the link between HQs has been increase to allow 3560 SW1 to route to HQ1 directly and HQ2 via 3560 SW2.The 3560s are connected with a trunk with a L3 SVI for OSPF. This seems to work ok but I have noticed that the branch could become transit if the HQ1 to HQ2 link breaks. How can this be avoided? I realise that if we configure the branch subnets and SW1 to SW2 link in a stub area (area1) then all traffic will route from SW1 to HQ1 and will never share over SW2. I'm assuming that this is because OSPF chooses inter-area routes over intra-area.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 - Enable EIGRP Process

Sep 23, 2012

I have a hub and spoke WAN that conisits of one core location with with a 6500 and nine other buildings using 4006 Catalyst that conenct back to the core via dual gig fiber. We are using EIGRP at each location as well as the core.   I was tesing something at one of our buildings decided to hang a 3750 off the 4006 and enable the same eigrp process on the 3750 that is enabled on the 4006 and 6500 (EIGRP 1).

1. All the routes that the 6500 knows about are advertised out to each of the nine locations.
2. The 4006's are all advertising thier directly conencted routes to the 6500.

Onto the location I was testing at:

The 4006 where I was testing at has four vlan interfaces enabled and they are in an UP/UP state. The ip routes from the 4006's directly conencted vlan interfaces propogate to the 6500 at our core location and the 6500 sucsefully propgates these learned routes to all the other 4006's.

This past Friday I configured a 3750x with two /22 vlan interfces and one physical gi port with an IP address and also configured on Ethernet port on the 4006 with an IP address in the same network block as the 3750x gi interface (a /30 netowrk block). I saw both interfaces come up and EIGRP sucesfully established a neighbor adjecency between the 3750x and the 4006.

I noticed that the 3750 advertised out all of it's directly conencted routes to the 4006 and the 4006 advertised it's directly conencted routes to the 3750. However, the 4006 did not advertise any of the routes it had learned from the 3750x to the 6500 and nor did the 4006 advertise any of the routes it had learned from the 6500 to the 4006.  My suspicion is that the "eigrp stub connected summary" statement is enabled on both the 4006 and 3750 thus prevenintg them form advertising out any routes other than thier directly conencted routes.  Can any of you verify that I'm either correct or inccorect about this?

access-list 1 deny   0.0.0.0
access-list 1 permit any
access-list 2 permit 0.0.0.0
access-list 2 deny   any

router eigrp 1distribute-list 1 out FastEthernet0/0distribute-list 2 in FastEthernet0/0

Due to this recently applied config the switch become unreachable from the outside and cannot ping anything. Everything connected to it works fine. I was able to remote into it from a switch behind it and noticed that the 3750 has no default route in the routing table. I do see a default route in the eigrp topology table. How to make the switch learn a default route maintaining the existing configuration on the routers.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst 3750X OSPF Support In IP Base Image?

Apr 3, 2011

I'm trying to work out if I need to order the "IP services" image for a couple of C3750-X.  I need to run OSPF on these switches, but find the IOS image requirements on Cisco contradict.

At the top of the data sheet it says: • Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) in IP Base image

On the product info page it says: IP Base: Enterprise Access Layer 3 Switching, including OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) for routed access

But in lots of other places it says you need 'IP services' for OSPF.

As the IP services IOS is quite a bit more expensive I would like to avoid buying it. What image do I need to run OSPF?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 / EIGRP Router Won't Update Neighbor With New Network

Apr 18, 2012

I am working at a client site today on a routing issue.  I am currently working on an issue where a 3750 switch running EIGRP will not update its neighbor router when a network statement is added to the eigrp instance.The neighbor is a 3825 router.

Both the switch and the router have a common network which is 192.168.36.0/24.
Both the switch and the router are in a neighbor adjacency.
Both boxes have "no auto-summ" in the routing configuration instance.

I can run debugs on both routers (debug eigrp packets) and then I can watch queries and updates when I issue "auto-summ" or "no auto-summ".  Also I see a "graceful restart" for the peers when this is done.I had an expectation that when I added the network (this is just an arbitrary network for testing, which is 172.16.69.0/24).  I wanted to watch this network being sent in an update to the neighbor router.When I add the above mentioned network, there are no updates packets sent from the 3750 to the 3845.  I have not had success to this point trying to resolve.  I have followed the Cisco document "Troubleshooting EIGRP Flow Chart", but have exhausted all it has to offer and now it is at the point where it is telling me to contact TAC.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 - How To Distribute Static Route Via OSPF

I want our other offices to learn this route route via OSPF so that they know how to get to the new network.  My problem is that of course remote sites do not see our static routes and i  have tried to add this via ospf but the switch will not propagate this route because it is not directly connected to the switch in SF.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 / 3750 - Enterprise LAN Environment / Could Not SSH

Feb 1, 2012

I am working in an enterprise LAN environment. We have about 100 switches, mostly 3560 and 3750's. This is a typical Cisco network, yet it's flat. No routing on the access layers. The core switch does do the routing. We use an third party vendor network monitoring tool, and we use Secure CRT to remote into devices.

Here's the problem. There was a device we stumbled into that had not been put into our monitoring software. It has the same IOS as our other devices. All I can say is that it's the same version and type. Each device has a management v LAN. And each device has it's own management IP. An ACL exists to prevent unauthorized SSH access into the devices, yet allows the management v LAN scope to get in.

So, here's the problem...we can't SSH into our problem mystery device, let's call it Switch X. Switch X has an IP of 10.10.100.150. Now, I can be logged into it's up link device, let's call it switch B. Switch B has an IP of 10.10.100.130. The ACL allows all devices from 10.10.100.0/24 to SSH. Our PC's at our desk are also in the same management V LAN. SSH version 2 is on the configs, and the domain names are the same on these two devices.

So, let's be clear. From my desktop, I can connect to any device on my network EXCEPT switch X. When I try to connect using SSH, port 22...it just sits there until it times out. I can do the same thing to any other switch, and connect just fine. We are using TACACS+ and RADIUS as well, and they are up and running just fine. The configs on Switch X like I said are the same for switch B, except it's IP address of course. While logged into switch B, I can do a CDP neighbor and see switch X connected via trunk link. Both sides are running dot1q encapsulation, and both are in trunk mode. I can ping switch X from switch B. When I try to SSH from B to X..I get timeout with no connection.

So, I hiked over to the building where switch X is located. I consoled into the switch. I confirmed that the ACL is the same as the ACL for switch B. It is set up to allow the management v lan inbound on the VTY 0 - 15. Yes, it's access-class (name) in on both vty 0 4 and 5 15. It also is set up for transport ssh in and transport ssh out.

I rechecked the domain name on Switch X; it was correct. I also did a crypto key and regenerated the crypto key. SSH v2 came up. Again, while in Switch X, I can do a CDP neighbor and see switch B. But I cannot SSH from switch X to Switch B, or any other devices that I tried. Now, we did find a config error with VTP; the VTP domain name was different. But VTP has nothing to do with SSH. Just to placate my co-workers, I went ahead and renamed the VTP domain name (it's running transparent mode). After I regenerated the crypto key, I saved everything of course. I then reloaded the switch. When all came back up, I still could not SSH

This is a 3560 switch, and it is trunk to a 3750.
