Cisco Switching/Routing :: Netflow Support On 3560 / 3750X Platforms
Feb 8, 2012
I'm looking at implementing a new DMZ and wanted Netflow capability for security monitoring. The architectural principles I have to adhere to dictate that the switches within the DMZ are layer 2 however to get Netflow I need a minimum of a 3560/3750X, Network Services module, IP Base IOS with ip routing and CEF enabled. To do this and still keep the switch functioning as a layer 2 device the intention was not to configure SVI's or any static/dynamic routing protocols. Will Netflow still work in that scenario?

We are looking to replace some aging 3560 switches with 100Mb/s interfaces. They service IP phones and workstations.
For having IP phones directly connected to access switches that are also servicing workstations, we don't need L3 routing except in the core, so the question is what would we lose if we used 2960S switches for access switches.
I understand from having spoken with Cisco TAC that a limited subset of QoS is available on the 2960S platform. Does that includes the priority queue that is enabled when you turn on mls qos on a L3 switch?

Yesterday Cisco released IOS 15 code into the wild for the 2960 and 3560/3750 families but the link to the release notes is not working. Because I already have a whole bunch of 4500/Sup7's running IOS 15 I am thinking about taking the plunge with 30 3750-X's I have on order but want to review the release notes first. where they might be hiding?

Basically I have netflow which i'm trying to use to export to a netflow collector. I'm pretty sure that the 3750-X does support netflow. I've recently updated IOS on the 3750-X to support flexi netflow. For some reason the netflow packets are not being exported to the server. I'm using Opmanager which should present the netflow stats in the form of a graph. I'm using a universal IOS image. (C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 12.2(58)SE2 3750-X WS-C3750X-24T-S

I've been researching the 3750-x Netflow support but I'm not 100% sure of how much support it has. From what I've read the only way to get NetFlow support is to install a specific module that provides NetFlow. I also heard about how it might support s-flow but I haven't found out for sure.

If the 3560 or 3750 "X" series support GRE.I am pretty certain the older 3750-E does not support GRE (both in hardware and software)Was hoping the new super duper X series do. If not, it could get expensive

I'm trying to work out if I need to order the "IP services" image for a couple of C3750-X. I need to run OSPF on these switches, but find the IOS image requirements on Cisco contradict.
At the top of the data sheet it says: • Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) in IP Base image
On the product info page it says: IP Base: Enterprise Access Layer 3 Switching, including OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) for routed access
But in lots of other places it says you need 'IP services' for OSPF.
As the IP services IOS is quite a bit more expensive I would like to avoid buying it. What image do I need to run OSPF?

OSPF normally only comes with IPservices image and not IP Base image. The 3560-C series data sheet says that it only suport IP Base image, yet it mentions that support for OSPF in included. Are there any restictions in the OSPF support?.

I believe the answer is yes, but incorperating more layer 3 features of our 3750's, I want to know if they fully support EIGRP or OSPF?
Also for a small business of 4 locations, each with a 10mbps fiber and a 1.5mbps mpls... wouldn't you say EIGRP would be easier? Want to look at making the failover automatic if the 10mbps fiber goes down between a site, then the network fails over to 1.5mbps mpls. When the fiber returns in service then the network automatically preferr the fiber again.
Currently we use static routes and if there is a provider outage we have to manually edit the config to flip flop the routes.

I heard that the WS-C3560E-24PD-S and the WS-C3750-48PS-S have a limitation on the number of 7945s supported (ie i can only run 10 or 15 on each switch before the power runs out). Any knowledge with these pieces of equipment verify the maximum supported? I'm having trouble finding documentation showing any maximums.

What are the limitations of Net flow v9 support on the 7600 platform for the SR code releases?
I know that Flexible Net flow is only available on newer releases with some newer hardware. Flexible Net flow gives you the ability to provide full support for Netflow v9 as well as IPFIX.
However, the documentation indicates that Net flow v9 is still supported in the SR code. So I am just trying to find out what are the limitations in how Net flow v9 is implemented without "Flexible Net flow". The Cisco TAC was unable to provide me any documentation about this.

I currently have Netflow enabled on all of my routers in my network. However, I have a Cat3750, which does not support Netflow. The 3750 is at a larger remote site and I need visibility into the traffic that is traversing internal to that switch. All VLANs are configured on the 3750. I have an extra Cisco router, which I have theorized I could use as a Netflow probe.
The 2811 Router has to FastEthernet ports.F0/0 would be configured with no IP Address and would be connected to the 3750 on G0/1 with no VLANs configured.F0/1 would be configured with a static IP and connected to the 3750 on port G/02 with the appropriate VLAN to ensure network connectivity.
On the 3750, configure a monitor session with a destination of Interface G0/1.On the 2811, configure netflow to sent to the Netflow server and set F0/0 for ip flow ingress.Obviously, it doesn't work. But I cannot figure out why.

I have a SR520 just deployed at a remote site with Internet Access.
Working Environment:
Remote sites have SR520 with IPSEC VPN back to HQ and netflow v.5 works through the VPN back to our PRTG server.
Non-Working:
I cannot get Netflow data to our PRTG with this first SR520 implemented with Zone Base Security. I am not able to get my netflow traffic out. VPN is up and running. Internet is a dialer0 interface. I have a Kron job that does the copy run to tftp backup daily to the same PRTG server and it works fine.
Both my source interface and address on the TFTP command and the netflow commands are the same interfaces (VLAN75) and IP. The Destination ip is the same too (through the VPN tunnel).
Snipped:
flow exporter prtg
destination x.x.x.x
source Vlan75

I am trying to figure out the Flexible Net-flow on Cat 4510R+E Switch running IOS-XE code. My Neflow flow software is manageengine 7.X. I am able to see the netflow interfaces but the traffic itself is not displayed. On the Switch I can see the netflow exporter statistics counter being incremented thereby confirming as being exported.

router 7200 (12.2(33)SRE1)
two interfaces with traffic going through, placed in a Data-VRF
Another physical interface and loopback interface in the global routing-table.
ip flow ingress on all physical interfaces configured
It was running for at least a year: I was getting netflow packets on my analyzer from the box. Since a couple of weeks I get no netflow-packets anymore.debug ip flow export tells me "IPFLOW: Sending export pak to ... port 2055"
But the packet is not leaving the box. By setting up an ip sla monitor udp-echo I simulated some traffic (udp/2055) which is leaving the box.
