How do I limit broadcast/mulitcast traffic on a switchport to e.g. 5000 pps ? I don't want the port to shut down, just block or drop broadcast traffic that exceeds 5000 pps.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 - Traffic Only Can Achieve Half Of Limit Bandwidth

Jul 15, 2009

I use WS-C3560G-24TS and try both ios 12.2.50.SE1 and 12.2.46.SE but problem the same. The config as following,
interface GigabitEthernet0/1
no switchport
ip address 1.1.1.2 255.255.255.0
[code].....

but I find the int g0/1 output traffic only can achieve about 500kbps then I try config below,

interface GigabitEthernet0/1
no switchport
[code]....

I find int g0/1 output traffic only can achieve about 5Mbps,but if I change "srr-queue bandwidth limit xx" command xx to 20-90,the int g0/1 can achieve normal traffic bps, for example,

interface GigabitEthernet0/1
no switchport
[code]...

the int g0/1 output can achieve 2Mbps that is correct,just only when limit set to 10%,the traffic only can achieve half of limit bandwidth.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 - Limit Bandwidth For Specific User On Switch Or Router?

Jan 24, 2013

configuring a switch or a router to limit the bandwidth for a specific user/IP when need it. Most of my remote offices are configured like this:

Users ------ 3560 switch ------- 2801 router -------- T1 to NOC -------- 7204 router with channelized DS3

I use Netflow Analyzer for high bandwidth usage alerts and can see the user's IP right away when someone is clogging our T1s. My goal is to be able to temporarily limit the bandwidth of the user taking over the T1.  Whatever is best switch config or on the router.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750x Switch Port Rate Limit

I want to limit the bandwidth going to remote site on the switch connecting to our netapp.We have a 4 port channel group setup on our 3750x switch going to our netapp storage. We have a Wan 100mb link to our remote site and we want only 60MBs of that link to be used for Netapp traffic all other local traffic needs to use the full amount of the bandwidth to the netapp.

Is possible to allocate bandwidth in this way and how would I go about this? We dont have access to the routers for the link and they plug directly into a port on our cisco.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3825 ISR - Traffic Route From Switch Port To Router Port

Jun 5, 2013

I'm fairly new to Cisco products am in the process of developing my network knowledge on a deeper level.  I have a 3825 with a HWIC-4ESW and I'm struggling to fully understand how the two "see" each other.  I've setup a V LAN with a layer 3 address on the HWIC and added the switch ports to it.  This seemed to allow devices connected to the switch ports to talk to the built-in router ports.  I thought this was all making sense until i applied an access-list to the router port.  It's a simple ACL i'm just using for testing and the only thing it does is blocks telnet from anywhere.  I know the ACL is setup properly because if I connect a device directly to the router port i cannot telnet to the port.  However, if i connect a device to one of the switch ports, i am able to telnet to the router port successfully.

It seems that I'm missing something with how traffic flows from the switch port to the router ports and how the two "see" each other.

My question you can not connect a HP switch to a Cisco switch, is this true or do I just need to confirgure something on the ports.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4500 / 3560 / 2950 - Slow Network / Broadcast

Jan 31, 2012

Our network feels slow and trying to find the best way to investigate this properly. We have Cisco chassis 4500 with mix of 3560/2950 Edge switches 1GB backbones and WLC/WCS in place. The network is broken into multiple V LANS and IOS on our switches haven't been updated in 3-4 years.

On a wireless laptop (G) with get throughput of 1-2MB/s transfer speed with usually 10 clients per AP and LAN we get anywhere between 7-15 MB/s transfer. Using wire shark on a wireless laptop we see a lot broadcast traffic from other clients and the same for LAN. What is the best way to troubleshoot performance issues on the network and where do I start?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Rate Limit 3560 Outbound To 5mb?

Jun 9, 2013

How to rate limit a 3560 inbound and outbound using different QoS methods. I've read about vlan class maps/policy maps, using the rate limit command on the physical interface, using the srr-queue bandwidth command(it's a gig switch so not sure that would work) and marking all packets and then applying QoS.  I'm just learning QoS so trying to figure all of this out and find the best way to do things.

Also, I was told to do this because it's not advisable to have a connection to your ISP that is not 10mb or 100mb on a switch, since they are not divisible by 10 and it can cause issues?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 / How To Identify Broadcast Traffic Source

Feb 23, 2012

We have 2 switches split across 2 datacentres connected via an interconnect.  Over the past couple of days the interconnect provider's Cisco kit has shut down our port (err-disabled) due to a broadcast storm.  They had the level set at 1 which I thought was a bit low.  They say they tried to set to 2, then 5 but still kept tripping the storm-control feature so they set at 10.  They say they've always had it set at 1% (on a 100Mb switch) and so we must be generating more broadcast traffic.

I'm trying to identify where the broadcast traffic is coming from.  On our Cisco 3750 I've clear interface counters and when I do a sh run | i broadcasts there are a few ports which have what seems like a high broadcast count.  The one port that is especially high and the only one tripping the storm-control feature (I've enabled on all our ports to try to identify where the traffic is coming from) is the port connected to the 100Mb interconnect.  I've mirrored that port to another port and connected a server with wireshark so I can capture all the traffic across that port.

What I'm struggling to find is the source of the broadcast traffic.I have a few questions are these broadcasts layer 3 or layer 2 broadcasts.  Also in the output below when it says broadcasts received is this inbound to the port i.e. from the connected device or is this a total of inbound and outbound broadcasts.

When I use wireshark and filter the capture on broadcasts (ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff) I see only 200-300 compared to the thousands the switch is reporting.If I filter on the broadcast IP address I also don't see the numbers corresponding to what I see in the show interface output.

GigabitEthernet1/0/1 is up, line protocol is up (connected)
  Hardware is Gigabit Ethernet, address is 0014.a93f.7401 (bia 0014.a93f.7401)

     reliability 255/255, txload 4/255, rxload 44/255

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Asymmetric Bandwidth Limit On Cat2960 Or 3560?

Apr 9, 2013

I have the requirement to assign an asymmetric bandwith limit to each port on a switch (example: 4Mbps downlink, 1Mbps uplink). I've been searching and found the option to apply policers or srr-queue mechanism to achive this, however this only applies for one direction only as far as I know. Catalyst 2960 familiy is preferred, however if this is not possible, will possibly jump to the 3560X family.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2960G / 3650G - Non-broadcast Traffic Appearing Across VLAN

Jul 5, 2012

We run a network of several 2960G and 3650G switches in a network with a number of VLANs. One one particular VLAN (let's call it VLAN 10) it appears that non-broadcast traffic (i.e. normal unicast traffic) is being copied to every port in VLAN 10 only on one switch . The traffic is not crossing trunk ports and does not appear on other switches that have ports in VLAN 10. We first spotted this by noticing that a UPS port had an unusual amount of activity on our port througput graphs:

This traffic at 4 am is not expected and this profile is repeated across all ports in VLAN 10 on this switch (a  WS-C2960S-48TD-L stack running IOS 15.0(1)SE3)\iffed one port using local SPAN (the UPS port) and discovered that this traffic was not broadcast, which was running at a normal low rate at all times. The traffic appeared to be unicast traffic from other ports of the sort you might see on a hub. It was from various hosts that live on VLAN 10, most (not all) of the conversations had one end station homed on the 'problem' switch. There are about 800 non-broadcast packets per hour and this is a busy VLAN so it does not account for all the traffic on the VLAN.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 800 Series - Limit Monthly Traffic On 3G Access

Oct 29, 2012

Is it possible to configure a limit on monthly traffic over a 3G access on a Cisco 800 Series?

The scenario is that a customer has a Cisco 800 3G routers with a 3G card from a Service Provider, that offers a rate for X Mbytes per month and that when those monthly X Mbps are exceeded, a differente rate (much more expensive) is applied for the excess traffic that month. The customer would like to have the router NOT to active the 3G access when the X Mbytes (on that month) are exceeded. Maybe this is possible to implement using a TCL script and ip accounting?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Air-Print / Bonjour Traffic Not Flowing On 3560 Switches

Jan 16, 2013

We are in the process of rolling out iPads to our offices.  As part of this implementation, we need to print from the iPads to our network printers.  Our network printers are mostly HP and Xerox and do not have native Apple AirPrint capabilities.  As such, we have been using the FingerPrint software to share out the network printers as Apple AirPrint printers.  We have a mixture of switches at our offices.  Most offices utilize a 3550 PoE switch.  In these offices the AirPrint traffic is being transferred successfully and everything works great. In the offices which are using 3560 PoE switches, the traffic is never seen at the iPads.  We are using EnGenius EAP300 access points connected into the Cisco switches to provide wireless access to the iPads. Both 3550 and 3560 switches are running iOS 12.2(25). What might be stopping/blocking the AirPrint traffic on the 3560 switches?

i have a 3560 connecting to a sp with limited bandwidth. i have one interface on the switch whose traffic i do not want to drop. i want this traffic to go into the high priority queue. i am not sure how this should be configured, but here is my best guess and my current qos configuration on the switch:

qos map cos-dscp 0 8 16 26 32 46 48 56
mls qos srr-queue output cos-map queue 1 threshold 3 5
mls qos srr-queue output cos-map queue 2 threshold 1 4 6 7
mls qos srr-queue output cos-map queue 2 threshold 2 3(code)

since cos 5 is mapped to dscp 46 then this traffic would go into the priority queue. is this correct ?

Is there any limitation..
