View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two cisco 4506-E series switches ..
We are planning to go for HSRP redundancy for 32 VLANs. Means In a Cisco 4506-E switch , we will configure 32 vlans and among them 16 vlans will be primary and 16VLANs will be standby ans it is viceversa in another core-switch
My querie is How many standby groups can we create in Cisco 4506-E switch,
Is there any limitation..
If there is any limitation , can we go ahead with VRRP,GLBP? Are there any limitation in VRRP/GLBP? Is there any design related issue can we face if we use same group number to all VLANs?
Product details :
Model : Cisco 4506-E

Any example to limit the bandwidth using the MAC address on 2960 ? I want to limit the bandwidth (IN / OUT) of a server only for Internet flows.

and in need to configure bandwidth limit for one of the port as a 1Mbps.
I have cisco 2950 catalyst switch, verson IOS (tm) C2950 Software (C2950-I6Q4L2-M), Version 12.1(20)EA1a, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
So. for one of my port (FE 0/3) i need to put the bandwith limit 512 kbps, how to configure the above same.
Note:- I configured the below but no effect
1. interface FastEthernet0/3description * CONT TO B-CENTER *switchport access vlan 10switchport mode accessbandwidth 1024speed 10
2. and there is no srr bandwidth limit option for 2950, but the same is working for 2960.
To rate limit the 2960 switch port to 1 MB.I have made the specified chnages , how ever still it is reaching more tha 1 MB
Hard coded the bandwidth of port to 10 MB and have applied the specified command srr-queue bandwidth limit 10.
I want to limit the bandwidth of my Catalyst 3750 series switch, I read the cisco documentation and I applied the commands but I didn't get the wanted results.
For the outbound traffic it's ok, but for the inbound traffic I used policing but I get an unstable traffic. I used, an access list and a class-map to classify the traffic and then a policy-map.(I followed the steps mentioned in this site: [URL]
configuring a switch or a router to limit the bandwidth for a specific user/IP when need it. Most of my remote offices are configured like this:
Users ------ 3560 switch ------- 2801 router -------- T1 to NOC -------- 7204 router with channelized DS3
I use Netflow Analyzer for high bandwidth usage alerts and can see the user's IP right away when someone is clogging our T1s. My goal is to be able to temporarily limit the bandwidth of the user taking over the T1. Whatever is best switch config or on the router.
I have 4506e core switch to which 10 other 2960 switches are connected.I want to upgrade thier IOS. how can upgrade it, can I upgrade it one by one or all at a time?
Is there any tool to perform this task?
I want to limit the bandwidth going to remote site on the switch connecting to our netapp. We have a 4 port channel group setup on our 3750x switch going to our netapp storage. We have a Wan 100mb link to our remote site and we want only 60MBs of that link to be used for Netapp traffic all other local traffic needs to use the full amount of the bandwidth to the netapp.
Is possible to allocate bandwidth in this way and how would I go about this? We dont have access to the routers for the link and they plug directly into a port on our cisco.
How do I limit broadcast/mulitcast traffic on a switchport to e.g. 5000 pps ? I don't want the port to shut down, just block or drop broadcast traffic that exceeds 5000 pps.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI would like to check if it may be possible to hot-upgrade/swap the 4506E power supplies? Based on the configuration guide; I have summarized the steps as follows:
1. Switch has 2 existing power supplies to be upgraded
2. Remove right side/bay 2 power supply and install new power supply
3. At this point; the new power supply will be in err-disabled due to different power supplies on the switch
4. Remove the left side power supply and install new power supply
For item 4; during the removal of the old power supply in bay 1/left side and installation of the new power supply; I am wondering if the switch would lose power even though the new power supply is installed in bay 2?
i want use CACTI for monitor my bandwidth so i have a question how can i enable snmp for a switch port ? or i shoudl just enable snmp from configuratiopn terminal and then in CACTI i will choose which port will be monitor? can i do something that CACTI connect to my switch with a encryption key ? i have cisco 2960 48 port switch

1. when user 1 copy data from server ,at that time who is in switch2 behind like user2 ,he is getting problem like when ping to default-gateway,or rto is coming and network is very slow .
2. when i open sw2,sw1,sw3,trunk ports utilization is very high except sw4 to sw1 trunk ports, who behind sw4 like user4 ,he is not getting problem.
3.all switches trunkport in my network is faster ethernet and i have no option to connect trunkport to gigaehternet and ethernet channel.
I think choose this SWITCH 4506-E and I need running only features L2 Metro, but Idont known what IOS for this!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to configure a Cisco 2960 switch as a DHCP server. The current IP address will be on a different seed than the DHCP addresses. i.e.
Switch IP = 10.1.2.3, GW = 10.1.2.1, Subnet = 255.255.255.0
DHCP addresses would be 192.168.1.1 - 200, GW=???? (10.1.2.3?) and subnet would be 255.255.255.0

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the requirement to assign an asymmetric bandwith limit to each port on a switch (example: 4Mbps downlink, 1Mbps uplink). I've been searching and found the option to apply policers or srr-queue mechanism to achive this, however this only applies for one direction only as far as I know. Catalyst 2960 familiy is preferred, however if this is not possible, will possibly jump to the 3560X family.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe run a workers camp here and we currently have around 2500-3000 people using our 100MB internet pipe. We are upgrading the pipe to 200MB soon but I still would like to limit how much bandwidth everyone is using.
We allow streaming media such as Netflix, youtube, apple TV and of course .So it gets full pretty fast. We have QOS implemented although I wasn't here when it was done so I don't know a lot about it. I would like to limit IPs to a certain amount of bandwidth. [code]
If I have an interface configured as follows (on a Cisco 3750 Switch)
Interface gi 1/0/24
Bandwidth 100000
And then added the following command
srr-queue bandwidth limit 40
Would the result be 40% of the physical 1Gbps interface or 40% of the 100Mbps Bandwidth set under the interface bandwidth command.
I have a task of setting up bandwidth limit on the 2811 router Fastethernet interfaces. The scenario is:We have a 4MB Internet connection and would like to allocate bandwidth usage to users.
Fastethernet 0/0 needs to be set with 256KB output and 2048 input. This is going to be connected to a wireless router. Fastethernet 0/1 needs to be configured with 2048 output.I could also use SDM if that's easier than using CLI.
I have a cisco 2821 router where as a cisco 2960 switch with connect on router as a trunk & one user vlan . this is my WAN router all traffic are internal . i have 2MB data connectivity on my WAN side. i have to Give a specific Bandwith on my SAP traffice . like when SAP traffice will come they all time get around 50 % bandwidth of my channel. If SAP resuest are not comming then other traffice will get full bandwith .

ip address 1.1.1.2 255.255.255.0

but I find the int g0/1 output traffic only can achieve about 500kbps then I try config below,
interface GigabitEthernet0/1
no switchport
[code]....
I find int g0/1 output traffic only can achieve about 5Mbps,but if I change "srr-queue bandwidth limit xx" command xx to 20-90,the int g0/1 can achieve normal traffic bps, for example,
interface GigabitEthernet0/1
no switchport
[code]...
the int g0/1 output can achieve 2Mbps that is correct, just only when limit set to 10%,the traffic only can achieve half of limit bandwidth.
we have currently a configuration with 3 bonded (link aggregation) channels, each delivering 1 Gb/s uplink, providing a total of 3 Gb/s uplink. Due to a recent network upgrade, we can now add more channels to the same group in order to have a total of 9 Gb/s uplink, meaning that we should bond toegether 9 channels. When we tried to change the old configuration in order to include six new channels to the bondend group we noticed 2 things: one channel was left in standby (blinking orange led),no increase in the uplink bandwidth semmed to happen,By looking around it looks like the channel group is limited to a maximum of 8 channels [*].
View 2 Replies View RelatedBeen looking around in my routers settings for something that even comes close to limiting bandwidth on a specific port, or mac address, but the only thing I can find is priority settings like "Low, Normal, High, and Highest" I did however see this:
I am not 100% sure if I can specifically set bandwidth limit per port or mac address, cause I don't see an option to do that, so I presume it just limits the whole network as one...
We are about to share a 10 MBit ISP connection with 2 others companies, and they are going to split the bill up into 3,3 and 4 Mbit, so we where thinking that we could setup a switch before their and ours router and provide them with a static IP from our ISP. But is it possible to set a bandwidth limit on the ports of a Cisco Catalyst 2960-8TC, so that we can set a limit of 3,3 and 4 on 3 ports.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 3750g connected to a "core" switch stack of 7 other 3750g's via 2 GigE ports in a trunk. This is currently in a switchport mode access port- channel so only the default vlan data is sent over. Now we have a need due to physical location of these switches, to allow vlan20 (DMZ) from this 3750g to the switch stack. I will configure a few ports on the switch stack for vlan20 and they need to be able to talk to the stand alone 3750g.To do this I will change the port channel on both endpoints to
-switchport trunk ecapsulation dot1q
-switchport mode dynamic desirable
also making the appropriate change on the interfaces belonging to this trunk. My question is, now that its a trunk port that carries multiple VLANs, how much is the bandwidth reduced on that 2gbps link?I have a very active VLAN (10) on the stand alone switch, but on the core I'm not going to be assigning VLAN 10 to any ports. So does traffic from VLAN10 even come across the trunk (wasting bandwidth) if no ports on the core side are assigned to it? I really just need vlan 1 and 20 (for now).
