I've just started a new job after a couple of years not touching cisco gear and been pitched in... My new employer has a network that's Juniper based. We've inherited a load of Cisco switches as part of the deal for hosting matches during the Rugby world cup (plus a load of Aruba wireless gear that promises to be my very own special millstone, but that's bye the bye.)
My task is to hang these catalyst 2960's onto our existing infrastructure via fibre connections.

I have a device that does ip audio on one mac address and managagement is on another mac address. Both of these mac addresses come from one NIC on the device. We need to split these two traffic paths into two different vlans.How can I program this switch to sperate the different traffic into two vlan's based on mac address on one interface?

I have two switches, a 2960 (sw01) and a 2948 (sw02). The sw01 is trunking via dot1q on Gi0/24 to sw02 on 2/48. Why are VLANs 2-4 not active on sw02?

How can i add two data vlans on cisco 2960 on one interfase? i have 3 mac adresses on one interfase: one PC, one ipphone and one XP virtual machine(VM). PC and VM are in one data vlan and phone is in voice vlan. i need to place the VM in another data vlan is it possible? if so could you give me a link or place information here.

I have a a hardware server running a VM hosting virtual servers which are all on different VLANs. My challenge now is to configure the switchport that the server is connected to, to see all the VLANs needed by this VM. The VM has an IP that is used for managing the server VMs which is on a different VLAN also.
My switch is a 2960 switch and it is presently trunked from the core switch.

I have a above said switch at my remote office (600KM) which is connected with L2 Point to Point leased line. Both the ends I have Cisco 3950 catalyst switches with Vlans configured at both the ends. Now, for obvious reasons I should remove the other end 3950 switch and replace with Cisco 2950 switch. The other end 3950 is having 4 Vlans configured on 4 ports. Now my requirement is, I should configure 3 Vlans (one for P2P, one for 10 Desktops and one for to bring traffic from other network).

I am using a catalyst 2970 switch for 2 vlans. Corporate data and a separate VLAN for backups. What I want to do is create an LACP etherchannel to the switch and also trunk these ports so the server is part of both VLANS.Due to fact that some of these servers are on totally separated networks, they really shouldn't be able to talk to the backup server. Creating the VLAN for backups works to achieve this. I plan to create inbound ACLs on each port to allow only the ports and IPs for the backup network and allow everything we need for corporate data.I read somewhere that you can't have ACLs on an etherchannel and I just want to get it all straightened out. I notice I can't add an access group to the port-channel itself but I can on the port- channel member ports. Is this all I need to do or does this not work?

I am aware that private-vlans are not supported on edge switches like 2960 series - so my question is would it be possibel to ceate private vlans on say just the core switch which would be a 3570 or 4506 that supports private vlans and then just trunk these to the edge like normal vlans?what I need to achive is to have edge port not able to communicate to each other even across switches - which cannot be done using 'protected' port so need the private vlan feature?

I have two Catalyst 2960 Series (48 port) switches with the newest Cisco IOS installed. There is also a Cisco 2600 Series Router which I can't manage because it's ISP managed.
Now the problem is as follows. I'd like to create two VLANs, one in the IP range 192.168.0.xxx and the other in the 192.168.1.xxx. Now the router has a gateway IP address 192.168.1.1 .
Would it be possible to somehow connect these two VLANs with the router so that these 2 VLANs can't see each other but they can ofcourse both contact the router and exit on the internet?

On a low-end switch like a 2960 the maximum VLANs is 255, as shown in the output of VTP status:
Maximum VLANs supported locally : 255
Number of existing VLANs : 245
When the VTP mode is changed to transparent, VLANs from the extended range can be added without increasing the number of existing VLANs - e.g. if I create VLANs 3000 - 4000 the number of existing VLANs is still listed as 245.
If MST is used to cut down on the number of spanning-tree instances - and assuming propagation of VLAN configuration via VTP is not required - is there any downside to using transparent-mode VTP to increase the number of available VLANs? It does feel like I'm cheating the maximum listed in the datasheet.

i try to implement layer 2 qos in 2960. when i complete to configure the switch, i want to test the qos.PC1 conect to switch port 1,PC2 conect to switch port 2 . PC1 is source teminal. i use skydata.exe and FTP for the test.
when use the skydata ,the PC2 speed can reach 10mbps.when use the FTP , the PC2 only can reach 1.2mbps. why?

How would I go about stacking 4 Cisco Catalyst 2960-48PST-L switches? The one switch needs to accept a fiber connection from a distribution switch. Do I have to buy flexstack module and cables? If so where does the module go on the switch? If this switch cannot do this set up, any other switch I should look at.

I need to upgrade a Catalyst IOS, but I got a bit confused. The catalyst is currently running "c2960-lanbase-mz.122-35.SE5.bin", but I want to upgrade to "c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-35.SE5.bin", in order to enable ssh. [code] What are the appropriate steps in order to upgrade to "c2960-lanbasek9-mz. 122- 35. SE5.bin". I have downloaded the tar file (c2960-lanbasek9-tar.122-35.SE5.tar)
1) Do I have to delete the old directory (drwx 192 Mar 1 1993 02:07:21 +02:00 c2960-lanbase-mz.122-35.SE5)?
2) Are these the correct steps to download and extract the IOS?
3) Where will the tar files be extracted? Will an new directory be made or do I have to make one manually?

I have 4 Catalyst 2960 connected via Etherchannel to each other. If I plug in my notebook in one port, I see the traffic from the neighbor port. So my switch acts like a hub.. I had a look at my MAC table and saw it isn't full.

I have a Catalyst 2960-S switch and a pre-standard IP Phone (Cisco 7960). When I connect the phone to the switch the switch recognizes the phone and supplies power. I would like to prevent this behaviour. ie. I would like to disable detection of pre-standard equipment. Is there a command I can issue on the 2960-S to do this? For example, on a switch from a different vendor I can issue the command: no power pre-std-detect to prevent it from detecting the 7960 phone, is there an equivalent command on the Catalyst 2960-S ?

I have two 2960's in this new environment that I am administering. I am receiving a message on one unit (Designate it 2960-2) of %IP-4-DUPADDR: Duplicate address 192.168.168.8 on Vlan1, sourced by 3037.a63e.540. The "sourced by" address is the 2960-1. I do not know how these units were originally set up. I followed the 3-switch Redundant stacking diagram and now when I boot up the stack Switch 2 is acutally Member 3 and Switch 3 is Member 2.
We plan on having Port-Channels spanning across Switch 1 - Master and Switch 2 (Member 3) of identical port types. Switch 3 (Member 2) is going to have 2 10GIG port channel created.
Is there going to be a problem renumbering the stack as they physically sit or should I just configure the devices based on thier logical member numbers.
I don't understand why the stack connection is Switch 1 - 1 ----> Switch 2 -1
