Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 5k Switch-Profile Peer Connectivity

Jan 2, 2013

We recently had a pair of Nexus 5k switches setup in our network. We had professional services handle the initial configuration but they weren't able to setup config sync for us. Each Fex is connected to each 5k, so we need a switch-profile to maintain a consistent setup on our interfaces. I went through the process in Configuring Switch-Profiles, but when I check the status of the peer, it says not reachable. [code]

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 5596 - Remove Switch-Profile Without Interruption

Jun 11, 2013

i want to remove the sync-profile on each of two synchronized Nexus 5596UP without loosing the config stored in Switch-Profile. That means without connectivity interruption and re-configuration of interfaces in "conf t mode", for example. Since NX-OS Release 5.2(1)N1(1) there is a new command

switch(config-sync)# no switch-profile abc profile-onlyprofile-only—Deletes the switch profile without the local configuration.

Mar 30, 2013

Configuration details: I have 2 nexus 5K switches and both 5K is connected to four 2960 access switches in each floor through fiber(shown in the attached picture). I have configured each VPC for each floor and portchannel configuration on 2960s switch to communicate to 5K switches. Now I am not able to communicate PC 1 connected in 1st floor to PC2 connected in 4th Floor.

I have attached topology map of my infra and the configuration files also. 1st floor switch and 4th floor swich have same configuration except IP address and switch name.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 5k Peer-gateway In VPC Config With HSRP

Apr 18, 2012

we are planing to run HSRP on our Nexus 5ks (with L3 card) and we use VPC to connect the downstream UCS - Fabric Interconnects to the 5ks. I was wondering if the peer-gateway command is required under the vpc domain config? When you use HSRP with VPC, both the active and standby HSRP peers can forward layer3 traffic, isn`t that the same that peer-gateway would achieve?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 7010 / 5510 - Run OSPF As Layer 3 Routing Protocol Between VPC Peer Links

Mar 25, 2012

I have an environment where i have two nexus 7010 switches, along with 2 nexus 5510's. I need to run OSPF as a layer 3 routing protocol between the vpc peer links.  I have 1 link being used as a keep alive link, and 3 other links being used as a VpC link.

1) Is it best to configure a separate Vpc VLAN i.e 1010

2) Is it best to configure a vrf context keep-alive

3) just have the management address as the peer ip's.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 5548UP Change Peer Keep Alive Link

Apr 19, 2013

I have a pair of Nexus 5548UPs that have some high priority servers running on them.  Servers are ESX hosts running Nexus 1000v's.  Each host has multple connections in a VPC to both 5548s.  We have been having intermittant ping loss and slowness of traffic to the VM's on these hosts.  I was poking around trying to figure out what the issue could be and found that the peer-keepalive command was not set to send the heart beat across the mgmt0 interface.  I would like to change this to point it accross the mgmt0 interface. Any tips or advice for me on making this change with production servers running on the switches?  I do not want to cause any loss to any systems when I make this change. Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 5ks Connected To 6513s - Peer Link Active?

Mar 13, 2013

how the Nexus 5500s work ?currently we have two 6513 Core switches  6513-1 and 6513-2 running HSRP and RSTP.  6513-1 is currently the Root Bridge, 6513-2 is setup as our secondary root.  We also have two 5548UPs setup with a peerlink between them.    Picture attached. "Current Setup.jpg"

There is a 20gig port channel between the 6513s and also a 20gig port channel(peer link) between the 5548s. 5548-1 has a 10g fiber running back to 6513-1 and 5548-2 has a 10g fiber running back to 6513-2.  Currently now Spanning tree is blocking the link from 6513-2 going to 5548-2 which is what we expect.  We were working on moving some things to different racks the other day and moved switch 5548-2 to another rack and brought it back online without the peerlink fiber connected. We started to have issues and tried to plug the peer link back up, but still continued to have issues.  We started to troubleshoot and noticed that both 5548s were acting like the master of the VPC domain and was not letting traffic pass accross the Peer Link.  We then rebooted the 5548-2 with the thought that it would come back up as the secondary in the VPC domain.  When it finally finished booting back up it then caused a huge loop in our network accross both uplinks to the 6513s and the 5548s peer link which in turn took our network down.  Spanning tree did not work like it was suppose to and block the port going from 6513-2 to 5548-2 in time.

My thought was this didn't seem like a good setup.  I went to the drawing board and decided we needed to have an uplink from both 5548-1 and 5548-2 going to 6513-1 setup as a port channel/VPC and also a uplink from 5548-1 and 5548-2 going to 6513-2 setup as a port channel/VPC.  Picture Attached. "NewSetup.jpg"  We are also planning on buying a "2K-C2224TP-1GE" to hang off the 5548s to use for ethernet.

how the Nexus 5ks work and haven't done a lot of research on them. Would this not be a better setup since both switches will have an active link to the root bridge?  The links from the 5548s going to 6513-2 should always be in a block state until we loose both uplinks to 6513-1 or the entire switch itself correct?  Also how will the 5548s reactive if I was to loose the Peer link fiber?  Will they continue to work as normal?  When it looses this Peer Link does it suspend all the VPCs for the servers on the secondary switch in the Domain so the network doesn't get confused on which link to send traffic up since there isn't a peer link active or is this not the case?  Also with the peer link down will the 6513-1 know which 5548 to send the traffic to if there is only 1 device (not setup in a VPC) on one of the 5548s?  What are your recommendations/best practice on the setup for the 2k?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 5548 And 6509 VPC Connectivity?

Nov 12, 2012

We have two 5548 switches connected to a pair of 6509 running in VSS mode. I am trying to understand the benefit of having bridge assurance on the uplink ports.

If we have the command spanning-tree port type network enabled we cannot do a non disruptive upgrade. If there is bridge assurance on the uplink it warns you of this. Yet if I do not run bridge assurance on the uplinks I can do a upgrade without any disruption.

Why in god would I enable bridge assurance on this VPC link if I cannot do a non disruptive upgrade?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 5548UP Connectivity With Router 2811

Aug 15, 2012

In the existing network we have Cisco 2811 router connected to Corporate MPLS cloud. Cisco 2811 is connected to Catalyst 6509 switch(set based IOS with MSFC card). Along with that we have two Catalyst 5509. We are upgrading the access layer by replacing catalyst switches with Nexus 5548 & 2248.

For a purpose of testing I have connected 5548 & 2248. Created cPC and ether channels between two. SVI and HSRP configuredon 5548. I am terminating 2651 (test router) on 2248 port 101/1/1. On 5548 I have enabled EIGRP on vlans. I am unable to ping to 2651 from nexus switch 5548 and vice-versa. I can see both devices on CDP but I do not see eigrp neighborship formed.

What configuration should go in 2248 and 2651 in order to establish a connection between two? If test is successful then I will connect 2811 to 2248 during actual migration. I assume that in testing if it works for 2651 then it must work on 2811 router.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 / Connectivity From Layer 3 Switch To Firewall?

Nov 29, 2012

RACK 1 is the old rack and NEW RACK is the rack which is going to be procurred for some new Servers. All the Servers in the RACK 1 has a default gateway as PIX Inside IP. As of now the 3560 Switches acts as Layer 2 and does not have L3 IP routing enabled. How can I enable conenctivity between 192.168.36.0 range and 192.168.57.0 range wihtout making any change to current PIX inside IP address 192.168.57.1?Is it possible that I can enable IP routing on the 3560 Switches , create interface VLAN 36 and since already Switch 2 has it 's default gateway as 192.168.57.1 , Would the traffic from 192.168.36.0 be routed to 192.168.57.1 ? Or do I need to create static route for that ?Since L3 Routing is not enabled and since the 3560 Switches are just acting as L2 , the  VLAN 2 - 192.168.57.0 range does not have any interface VLAN configured. When it is changed I would need to create interface VLAN 2 on 3560 Switches?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Configure 3560X Switch For ISCSI Connectivity

Mar 19, 2012

I haven't worked with infrastructure much lately but planning on replacing a Dell switch used for a small iSCSI SAN with a Cisco 3560x. Switch is sstorage ONLY, network handled through different switches. I believe I want to disable spanning tree and configure trunking for the 4 GB ports connected to the storage array. The switch is providing connectivity to SAN via multiple GB connections and then also multiple GB connections to 3 Vmware hosts.Can you look over the changes I made to config below and let me know if I am on the right track.

I also plan to add a second switch later with the 10GB modules to interconnect for redundancy (but not worried about that part for now). I do not plan on using jumbo frames.

Here are my questions

1) Is the best way to globally disable spanning tree for the switch?

2) Did I trunk the ports correctly below?

3) Should I apply any specific SmartRoles to the 4 SAN NICs (GE1-4) or to host NICs (GE13-20)?

4) Anything additional I should do to handle iSCSI data?

Here is a copy of the config so far with my changes marked in RED.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Inter Access Switch Fiber Connectivity 2960-48PS

Jan 16, 2012

I had a strange issue yesterday when onsite installing a new access switch.Port capacity full on a two switch stack of 3750 x48 PS switches (WS-C3750- 48PS-E)- New 2960 x48 PS - WS-C2960S-48FPS-L racked, with the plan of using it just as an edge switch via SFP Stacking cable.Setup the two connecting ports with simple initial config: - switchport mode trunk- no encapsulation option on the 2960, default dot1q- dot1q set on 3750 port- no shut on both sides.Connected the SFP Stacking cable but it didnt work:- %PHY-4-SFP_NOT_SUPPORTED: The SFP in Gi1/0/1 is not supported

This is ok as I had a backup:- Next step tried using 2 x Short Haul SFP SX GBIC's with LC - LC OFNP 50/125 fibre patch lead  - no joy- Extra backup of 2 x Long Haul SFP LX GBIC's with the same fibre patch - no joy- Checked the fibre and it was not a cross over so transmit and receive going down the same side, switchedand still would not come up.- Used Fibre as a straight through and still the same.In all cases there was no indication of any life in the connection.It is pointing to a faulty fibre patch lead but I know it has worked in the past. Could it be something to do with the config or device incompatibility? Or any setting I need to activate?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2950 / 2620 / 2621 - How To Get WAN Connectivity Back To Switch At End Of Network

Jan 27, 2013

I have a lab setup to take my CCNA and CCNP and I'm having issues trying to get WAN connectivity back to a switch at the end of my network.  My lab environment consists of 1 - 2950 switch, 1 - 2620 and 1 - 2621XM.  I have 1 Ethernet connection from each router to the switch and 1 serial connection from the 2620 to the 2621XM.  I have the serial interfaces in a shutdown state right now so there is no loop since I do not have Spanning tree setup on the ports on the switch yet.

Right now using the fast ethernet ports on the routers and I have no issues its when I shut down those Ethernet ports and try using the serial interfaces when I start having issues.  So my network layout is Ethernet from switch port f0/4 to port f0/0 on 2620 and serial from s0/1 on the 2620 to s0/2 on the 2621XM. My 2621XM f0/1 is whats connected to the WAN and I have no issues getting to the WAN from my 2621Xm or my 2620 but when I try pinging any website or even my WAN default gateway from my switch I get nothing!

Ive also noticed that when I do a IP NAT translation (after accessing the WAN from my 2620) on my 2621XM the source IP is of my serial connection not the ip of my 2620  router?  I have my default gateway on the 2620 as the the IP of my serial interface on the 2621XM and vice versa because my LAN network is 172.16.1.0 and my WAN is 172.16.9.0.  I have a /31 setup between my serial connections 172.16.11.0 (s0/1) is on the 2620 and 172.16.11.1(s0/2) is on the 2621XM.  I used the SDM (ver 2.5) to setup NAT to have f0/1 with Nat outside and s0/2 as Nat inside.  Encapsulation is HDLC between the serial links. Ive attached the running configs of the switch and routers.
