Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 7K Downgrade Failure

Feb 2, 2012

After trying to downgrade a Nexus 7K from 5.2.1 to  5.1.5 by updating the boot & kickstart boot statements and reloading, I'm now stuck in an endless cycle of reloading. See below:

Is there a break sequence which will allow me to modify the boot statement back to the original via ROMMON or something similar?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Blades On Switch 4507R Keeps Blocked After IOS Downgrade

Jan 4, 2011

We made an IOS doBlades on switch 4507R keep block after an IOS downgradewngrade. Before to do it, the equipment comes with blades 1, 2, 3, 4 and we insert "X4418" and "X4548" on blades 5 and 6.[code]

After we made an IOS downgrade to a cisco 4507R from "cat4500e-ipbasek9-mz.122-54.SG.bin" to "cat4500e-entservicesk9-mz.122-53.SG2.bin" (comes with a redundancy supervisor blade WS-X45-SUP6L-E) the standby supervisor keep disable.We tried with the command "Switch(config)#boot system flash cat4500e-entservicesk9-mz.122-53.SG2.bin" then save configuration and "reload" comand but the switch runs with the "...54.SG.bin" IOS.

We erase the configuration with the command "erase/all non-default", before to apply the reload command insert the "entservicesk9-mz. 122- 53. SG2.bin" using the tftp command.The standby supervisory remains on disable state but the active supervisory runs with the desire IOS. In order to downgrade the IOS to the standby supervisory the active supervisore was removed temporarely (previously the switch was off) to make the standby as active, after that made the same procedure with command "erase/all non-default", "copy tftp://(....122-53.SG2.bin), and "reload" command.

The switch was off and re-insert the active supervisory and turn on the switch, after we made the procedure the blade "WS-X4548-RJ45" marks a fault as follows: [code]

The blades were reset but don't have access to them.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Downgrade Firmware On C3750 V2 Switch 24TS-S V07 To 12.2(35) SE5

Apr 10, 2012

Is there a way I can downgrade the firmware on a C3750 v2 switch 24TS-S v07 to 12.2(35) SE5. I have added this new switch to an existing stack but the FW is not compatable. I believe the answer is to upgrade the rest but I cannot afford any down time as they are used to run a CCTV securiy network 24/7. I have included details below to assist with my problem. Cisco Switching/Routing :: C3750 SFP Failure After Reload

Mar 11, 2013

I have a cable from an SFP module in a WS-C3750-48P with 12.2(55)SE1 running to a Gigabit port on a Cisco WLC. After the switch recovers from a power failure, the gigabit autonegotiation fails. The cure is a long drive to unplug and reseat the SFP. Note this happens at too many similar sites for this to be a loose connection. Interface shutdown then 'no shutdown' is not sufficient. The state is 'line protocol is down (not connected)'. Interface is configured for switchport mode trunk (auto speed, auto duplex). Command 'switchport nonegotiate' makes no difference. Is there a more powerful command than 'shutdown' which might toggle the interface signals? Is there some way of resetting the SFP? sh int gi 1/0/1 displays 'media type is 10/100/1000BaseTX SFP' and zero packets received.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 650x How To Improve Link Failure

Jan 27, 2013

I have implemented in my company network recommended by cisco scheme with MEC etherchannel from some segment distribution layer (VSS) to core switches (legacy 650x) exactly as on picture: Core switches  have rather old  IOS (Version 12.2(33)SRB4 and i have reasons not to upgrade it now) which dont support many functions - like BFD over Etherchannels and Enhanced PAgP. And we run a OSPF/MP-BGP/MPLS bunch over those links with OSPF reference bandwidth configured to such values that failure of one link in etherchannel will not lead to link cost changes (we dont have a lot of traffic for now on those links and 1 link can handle it easily) and consequently will not trigger changes to RIB and BGP topology table.

Problem is that i am afraid that in case of one of link of portchannel will fail (but without port down event - unidirectional link or smth else) it will take rather long time to converge - and im talking about L2, not L3 protocols. Cos i cant implement BFD and ePaGP over this link - best i can do that improve 30 seconds PAgP hello timer to 1 second. But at least 3 seconds of possible traffic blackholed - is rather big problem.First time i considered 2 possible solutions:

1) BFD - but even i can use it, it will not improve much recovery time cos 750 ms for BFD over etherchannel not much better that 1 second PaGP fast timer.

2) ePAgP - as i understand this protocol have enhancements to discover failed link faster and improve recovery time, but all information i can find about it - is how to use it for dual active detection and none about timers improvements. So i cant be sure that i should upgrade IOS on Core switches and it will improve my failure detection time. ( if it possible adduce some links to description of this protocol enhancements in comparison with PAGP)

For now im already thinking about using four L3 links (instead of 2 portchannels) and BFD over those links with 50 ms hello timer. But in case of link failure reconvergence of OSPF will take some time, and BGP will react to this no immediately, so i am afraid that even using aggressive timers for routing processes and hellos i will not win much time.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 Stack Master Failure?

Apr 18, 2012

We have a stack of a 3750E with a 3750X, when we turn off the master, a disconnection occurs for around one minute while only one request timeout is seen when the slave is turned off. Is this normal? Details: in other words, when the slave switch is elected as the new master all the port-channels and some physical ports become in 'down' state before reobtaining the up state again, this results in a one minute outage. The question is: is it normal to have a layer2 control traffic interruption when the master fails and re-election occurs and if yes, what is the normal downtime in seconds. the layer2 control information such as port-channels LACP protocol are not synchronised to all slave switches by the master?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst 2960S Format Flash Failure?

Jan 3, 2013

I recently tried to manually format the flash on a model WS-2960S-48TS-L switch running IOS version 15.0(2)SE.  While executing the operation I got the following error - mifs[8]: Failed to create superblock  %Error formatting flash (I/O error).As a result the flash is no longer accessible by the switch.  I spoke with Cisco and they indicated that a switch reload would remount the flash and make it accessable again but the .bin file would need to be reloaded using the xModem recovery procedure (what a pain).The next IOS version 15.0(2)SE1 will supposedly fix this bug but it has not been released yet.  In the meantime if you are running 15.0(2)SE you may want to hold off performing a "format flash:" function on a 2960S.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: WS-X6716-10GE Module Diag Failure In 6506

Aug 15, 2012

We recently installed a WS-X6716-10GE module in slot 6 within a Cisco 6506. We are using two ports on the module (6/13 and 6/14), which are port channeled together to a Nexus 5548. Everything has been running fine for about a month and the card had a green light but the ports stopped communicating. The module was screwed into the chassis/slot. For problem determination reasons, we reconfigured ports 6/13 & 6/14 to 6/15 & 6/16 and moved the cables but the module was still not responding. We eventually pulled the module out of the slot and reinserted the module back into the slot, which reset the module and fixed the problem. Is there any way to determine if this was hardware problem with the module and it should be replaced, or is it a software bug/problem? We opened up a ticket with the TAC but we haven't heard back from them yet.
