Cisco Switching/Routing :: VTP V3 - Primary Server Not Detected
May 16, 2013
We have a bit of a problem when deploying VTP v3 in our network. When command vtp primary vlan is issued, switch typically send query to appropriate multicast address in order to find out whether there is already some other one. The problem we are experiencing is that old primary server is not discovered, because it fails to reply on those multicasts.
This debug messages (from the old primary server )may be more describing.
We got a requirement for 2 number of X2-10GB-SR line card WS-X45-SUP6-E in WS-C4506-E.Customer want to connect with Fujitsu primary server . they have 10 gig module so i guess it will support with that. Also a doubt this X2-10GB-SR we can directly connect the firber sc multimode cable write no additional sfp required write .And for my knowledge if i use CVR-X2-SFP. I think to multimode sfp we have to insert write so do we get to 10 gig ports in one slot or how is it .
I configure HSRP on Router 2951 as a primary router, and Router 2811 as backup router. But when I am switching off my Primary router the backup router is taking 2 mins to take over form primary router.
My C6506 USING ws-sup720-3B, i upgrade the IOS to the latest release of 12.2(33) SXJ1 IOS version. After upgrade and reload the machine got one module cannot be detect..WS-X6416-GE-MT, 16 port 1000mb MTRK ethernet module. The version of this are:
-HW 1.0 -FW 5.3 (1)1 -SW 8.5 (0.46) RFW
Question 1: Any tools available on cisco to check out the hardware/software compabiity feature?
Question 2: Any release note, compability matrix table etc resources.
I am attempting to add an additional ethernet port on a Cisco 2620 router using a NM-2FE2W card, however the card is not being detected. I read that this card is compatible with this model router, but I have also notice that there is a version 2 of this card. Have I ordered the wrong card or do I possibly have a defective card? My ISO version is 12.2(26) on the router. If this card is not compatible, what is the recommended card for adding an additional ethernet port on this router?

We have Nexus 5K switches at the aggregation layer and VPC domain has been configured on them. VPC domain includes switches at the access layer as an identity. But when primary switch reboots failover didn,t happened. We are attaching architecture diagram for the setup along with show tech for Nexus 5K both switches.
I have two 3750Xs for stack, and i want connect a 2960 switch on this stack with port-channel.I connect 2960 G0/1 to 3750X G1/0/24, and 2960 G0/2 to 3750X G2/0/24. [code] i try to config spanning-tree etherchannel guard misconfig, but no use finally, i have to use "no errdisable detect cause all"..i check the cisco.com, and find a information: for this case, channel-group can use mode desirble.but when i try to change the channel-group in 3750X stack, it shows me that: "with pagp enable, desirble mode must config in the same switch".i try to use mode desirble mode in G1/0/23 and G1/0/24 in 3750X stack, it still can not work.i want to know how to solve this problem? not only do "no errdisable detect cause all".
I have existing cisco 2811 (Version 12.4(3c)). I try to add a HWIC serial card into the router but the new HWIC is not detected. There is no new interfece shows up when i do show run. This HWIC is a new card just bought it.
Here's my problem. I'm going to be using Cisco 1941 routers at a bunch of remote sites. All of these sites have 2 comm paths out. Some of them have 2 IP/VHF radios and some have 1 IP/VHF radio and a copper link using Patton ethernet extenders. From the VHF radios the data hit our MPLS network back to our HQ and the sites with copper go directly back to our HQ. Everything ends up at a Cisco 4948 switch. The problem I'm having is that I want the routers at the remote site to use one ethernet port (G0/0) as the primary and the other (G0/1) as the backup interface. I've tried the backup interface command but the problem is that depending on where an outage occurs the ethernet link to either the radio or Patton stays up so it never switches over. We're using OSPF as our routing protocol and I'm sure there's something that can be done with it but I'm not sure what.
I have recently configured secondary ip address on LAN Interface of Cisco C6509.. We have some application which needs to use broadcast traffic communication to communicate with client... Broadcast is working within subnet & also working from broadcast server to primary subnet. But not working from secondary subnet.. I have checked broadcast within secondary IP range & it's working fine... Secondary not working broadcast with primary and also with broadcast server... broadcast address is different for these subnet but both should be communicate since configured on same interface... When I went through Cisco website found that command "ip directed broadcast" which will pass broadcast to different subnet... But I'm not sure whether any other impact if I enable that command on particular Ethernet interface...
We an 887m router in our office with an unmanaged switch. We have two networks, 192.168.0.x and 192.168.11.x connected to router on the same interface (192.168.11.253 is a secondary ip) but I can seem to be able to route packets from one network to the other. Internet traffic is fine from both networks. I can't see what I'm doing wrong here. I can ping the 192.168.11.253 (router) from the 192.168.0 network but nothing beyond that.
I tried this at home with no other config and its the same. Is this by design?
Recently i changed internet service provider and i went up to a 24 Mbps line, though i can only reach a 8 Mbps service due to my location.
The problem is that surfing the internet has gone all kinds of wrong. Every page takes at least 20 secs to open and the response to online games has the same, or even more, delay. Checking my emails also takes quite some time.I tried connecting through the ethernet cable & the wireless connection(not at the same time). I even tried making a static ip. Same results, i can't seem to browse.
I recently set up our new Cisco Linksys E1000 router (we originally had a Belkin, but it is dying). It works perfectly fine on my desktop. However, there is only a "local connection" on my mom's laptop, a Toshiba Satellite running Vista. Diagnosis: Cannot Communicate with Primary DNS Server (68.105.28.12). I've read a bunch of other posts on many websites but so far nothing has worked.
I had my broadband installed and activated and I'm using my laptop with vista I've used it before with wireless Broadband and was fine but now I'm having trouble using the Internet, wifi is on and it is showing as connected to the router but when I open the web browser it is unable to connect, I used diagnostics and it comes up with the following:Cannot communicate with primary DNS server 194.168.4.100
I've tried many things posted in this forum to resolve this issue but to no avail. My computer will connect to the local network but not to the Internet and when clicking diagnose and repair it says it cannot communicate with primary DNS server (85.255.112.151)
Problem: No internet connection. 'Can't communicate with primary DNS server'Information: I am using a Windows 7 64 laptop (LAN connection) to connect to the internet. Two days ago this stopped working (after working fine for 3 months). Using windows troubleshoot I receive the message 'Can't communicate with primary DNS server'. I have checked the IPv4 and IPv6 and they are all set to automatic.I then tried to reset this using Microsoft 'fix it solution' as indicated Can't communicate with Primary DNS Server this still had no luck.I have also tried,
Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog
Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log
and ipconfig/ release and ipconfig/ renew none of this has made any difference. I can successfully ping the default gateway but cannot ping google. All packets time out.Additional information: Using an older laptop I am able to successfully connect to the internet on the same line. Also the laptop that is not working does work fine at work. So I don't even know if the problem is with the hub or the laptop.
My wireless connection showed connected but Internet Explorer kept showing the page cannot be displaced. When I clicked the diagnose connection problems, the message kept coming back with "Cannot communicate with primary DNS server (65.32.5.111)".
I'm having an absolute nightmare trying to get my laptop to connect to the internet. It will connect to our home network (virgin media cable broadband) locally but won't connect to the internet. I've tried a few of the fixes I've read on here such as changing the DNS settings myself but it's going nowhere.I can connect to other networks for example my parents virgin media network and the other laptops and my ps3 can all connect to our internet just fine so I really don't understand why mine isn't working. When I diagnose the problem it says "Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server (194.168.4.100)" and underneath it says "Network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response"

"Cannot connect to primary DNS server".I've read tons of posts discussing this subject from it being an issue with the laptop's motherboard to simply changing your IP address but nothing has worked. This isn't the first time I've had the issue also this is about the 5th time its happened and the first few times I was able to simply Configure my laptop to an earlier date and it went away or restarting but not anymore, last month it happened and it took two weeks of not messing with my laptop for it to go away.I have two other computers that are desktops that can connect to the internet still just my laptop wont no interweb love for my laptop T-T.
Cannot connect with Primary DNS server(84.13.241.126)I have recently got broadband in my new flat. We managed to get my xbox connected and my laptop connected via the wifi which was great, but my girlfriends laptop came up with the error message:Cannot connect with Primary DNS server(84.13.241.126)I found another thread with a similar problem and stuck in a DNS sever address the same as our IP address which is as above but still it didn't have any effect. It also mentioned Network Diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not recieve a response. The ipconfig for the vista laptop is as follows:
I'm having issues connecting to the Internet through my netgear router. The other laptops in the house work fine so I'm sure it's an issue with the setting on my laptop that are the issue. It connects to the router, tries to identify, them says unidentified and remains at a local only connection. The error says: cannot connect with primary dns server(192.168.2.1). Windows cannot resolve it itself.
i can't connnect to the internet wirelessly, i am able to with ethernet cable. i am able to connect to other networks with the computer. Reason i say it is a problem with one of my computers, is i am able to connect to the same internet with 4 other computers wirelessly. it is just this one computer. the computer is a HP Pavillion notebook 6000 series
I recently got new comcast internet installed on my PC and now i want to add a router but when i connect the router i keep getting the same error message, "Cannot communicate with primary DNS server" It also says it tried to ping but did not recieve or something like that. When i connect straight from the modem to the PC it works perfect but when i add the router it does not.[CODE]
I'm having a bit of trouble connecting to the internet on my desktop. Basically, my desktop computer, running windows 7, wired connection via LAN, is having trouble connecting to the internet. It appears to be connected to the internet (all indicators are "green light"), but when I attempt to open a browser, for example, there is no response. After running a diagnosis, I found this: Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (Primary DNS server). The strange thing is that our apartment wireless network works just fine. I looked around on here for a solution, but all were entertaining laptops with wireless connections. My IPs are set to automatic as well.
I have recently gotten a Virgin Super Hub router and everyone in the house is able to connect to the internet fine except me. I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista running on it. I am able to connect locally to the network however it lists it as an "unidentified network" and when I try to diagnose the problem I receive notifications such as "Cannot communicate with primary DNS server 194.168.4.100" and "Network Diagnostic pinged remote host but did not receive a response. When I have a cable plugged into the router and my laptop I am able to connect but on a separate network "Network 3".
Wireless laptop works but desktop will not connect to Internet. Was working yesterday. Tried to use Windows repair using Reset the network adapter "local area connection'. Received the following. Windows tried to repair a problem but still exists. Cannot connect with Primary DNS Server (75.75.76.76).
I am trying to hook my desktop up to my wireless router via Ethernet cable. The wireless Internet works great and my housemate's laptop works with an Ethernet cable. I have already contacted my service provider but to no avail. I have no idea where to start
One of our laptops won't connect to the internet via wireless, gives a "Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server (192.168.1.20)" error. It works fine when plugged in via ethernet, and all our other computers connect to wireless just fine.
The wireless is set to acquire DNS automatically in the TCP/IP IPv4 properties. I've tried to flush DNS, reset IPv4 and reset Winsock with no luck.
