I like to configure a logging for topology changes, but i havn't found a command.

Is there an opportunity to get this logging-messages on n7k?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2960s - Swapping Connection On Both Ends To Spare Pair Of Fibers

Sep 30, 2012

The school I work at upgraded to Cisco Catalyst 2960-S switches, all connected to each other via fiber.  I am seeing a problem with one such connection.  Cisco Network Assistant showed a "4-Warning" regarding the fiber link port: port was disabled because it was fluctuating between up and down too rapidly.  Possible hardware problem, resolve and re-enable.  (I'm paraphasing the message...it was 'acknowledged', and I can't bring it back up.)

This message was only showing on our "SV-Copy-Rm" switch's port 49.  The other end, on "SV-Maint-Rm" port 49 showed a normal green link status.

Using Internet Explorer, I logged onto SV-Copy-Rm switch's Device Manager, and  I first tried disabling/re-enabling port 49 on SV-Copy-Rm.  It came back up blinking yellow and showing "port has bad link" when I cursor hovered over port 49.  This continued for a few minutes, followed by port 49 being disabled again.

The current thing I'm trying is swapping the connection on both ends to a spare pair of fibers.  I'm pretty certain I've swapped to the same pair on both ends, however, now neither switch shows an active link.  I've disabled/enabled the ports on both ends, but still no link.

Question: How do I re-establish the above link? (The active connection has 'fallen back' to the designated ethernet Cat 5e connection and is currently running with that connection.)

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560G - IOS DHCP AP Loosing IP Address

Nov 13, 2012

Not sure if this is a problem with the switch or the wireless AP connected to the switch, but I have a couple of 3560's, one is a 3560G and the other is a 3560, both have phones and wireless ap's connected to them.  The ap's on both of these switches continue to loose there ip address and thus disconnect from the controller.  This happens about once a week, but the odd thing is that the phones never loose there ip address.  All of my other 3560s and 3560g's that have AP's and phones connected are working fine.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 891 Deciding On Network Topology Of Router And FW

Jun 5, 2013

We currently support a third party VOIP software. Recently we have had issues with our T38 faxing to our SIP Trunk provider because our FW (sonicwall) doesn't support Nating the connection address within the SDP packet of the T.38 reinvite. This has caused us to look at alternate solutions. I have been in discussion with CISCO sales engineers and can't get a straight answer on which one of their products support this(RFC 3362, T.38 protocol used by our VOIP server)We were looking at replacing our sonicwall with an ASA but it seems it doesn't support RFC 3362 either . However, the sales engineer thinks that their regular routers will. So If I purchase a cisco router, i.e 8xx or 2621XM the question is where do I put it in my current topograpy. Currently we our at a Datacenter and our drop into our cabinet comes right into the Sonicwall and we have all NAT handled there, routing to different LAN ports on the Sonicwall. On LAN side all we have are standard switches supporting all of our Servers.

If I buy a Cisco router to handle my NAT issue for faxing.Do I put it on the WAN or LAN side of my FW?Do I setup the router to handle all of my NATing or just the NATing of my VOIP server that is having issues with the T.38? Would I need a Sonicwall FW if I purchased a CISCO 891?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 1721 / Change Remote Site Network Configuration With / Without Losing Connection?

Sep 19, 2012

My company just assumed management of a remote entity.  The network has several misconfigurations and I need to make some network modifications from my office w/o losing access or incurring lengthy outage to the clients.  The network consists of 1721 router and  three 2960 switches.

- I only have access to the router from the Internet.  I telnet off the router to the 3 switches.

The site uses a single class C 192.168.1.0 / 24.  The router is running RIPv2 even though this is the only network.  The prior network person (contractor) set up separate native vlans on each switch and all the ports are defined as Native trunk and access are defined to the VLAN interface  assigned to the switch.  So of course the logs are flooded with Native VLAN mismatch,  Each 2960 switch is a VTP server but has no VTP domain.

basic network layout:

Internet  => Eth [Cisco 1721] => Fa 0 192.168.1.254  ==> [SW1]
 [SW1]
 interface Vlan1
no ip address
no ip route-cache!interface Vlan220ip address 192.168.1.219 255.255.255.0no ip route-cache

[code]....

!interface GigabitEthernet0/1description SW2 Gi0/1switchport access vlan 204switchport trunk native vlan 204!interface GigabitEthernet0/2switchport access vlan 204switchport trunk native vlan 204!interface Vlan1no ip addressno ip route-cache!interface Vlan204ip address 192.168.1.224 255.255.255.0no ip route-cache Normally, I would assign the current 192.168.1.254 to a subinterface to Router Fe 0/0 but with each switch having its own native VLAN I am afraid I will lose connectivity to the downstream switches -- my only access is telnet off the Cisco1721 Router.

Cisco :: Core Layer Switches After A Spanning-tree Topology Change Occurs

Mar 24, 2013

I've been taught/under the impression that vlans and stp stay in the access layer to prevent bridging loops and broadcast storms from taking down the whole network. Well I was reading about backbonefast and how it "Enables fast convergence in the networkbackbone or core layer switches after a spanning-tree topology change occurs." Now I thought that from the distribution layer up we use a routing protocol.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6500 - Adding Port Channels In Existing STP Topology

Apr 3, 2013

current topology is build from 4 6500 switches connected in a ring topology. Using Port channel (2x 10Gbit) links to connect left side top and bottom 6500's (DC1), 10 G bit link to connect right side 6500's (DC2) In between a 1 G bit link is used to connect top 6500's (DC1-DC2) and the same for bottom 6500's (DC1-DC2).

Path costs are 5 and 6 so the T5/4 from bottom right is blocking. Bandwidth demands are increasing, so thinking about adding extra 1 G bit links to the existing ones and create ether channels. Path costs here are 4 and 5, so T5/4 from bottom right is still blocking, but when the bottom 2 G bit port-channel is loosing one 1 G bit link the path costs of both directions become equal. So I am worried that STP will not re converge and leave me with a congested 1 G bit link. I cannot test this setup in a lab, are there any options for STP to re-converge here?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 Topology In Packet Tracer Related To Etherchannel Configuration

May 23, 2012

i have made a topology in packet tracer related to etherchannel configuration.i am using 2 3560 switches and 1 2950 switch. Now what i want is to bundle up the redundant links between these 3 switches. The links fa0/1-3 between 2950_1 and 3560_1 switches have been bundled up but when i try to bundle the links fa0/4-6 of 3560_1 to fa0/4-6 of 3560_2 it wont work. i am using channel-group 1 mode desirable between the 3560 switches. secondly if i want to assign ip to port channels then it has to be of same subnet between 2 3560 switches right and it must be same between 2950_1 and 3560_1. But these 2 subnets should be different from one another.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Why Does Routing Work Without Declaring Vlan10 On 2960s-24td-l

Oct 28, 2012

I have recently split the voice vlan (10) from the data network (1), and am wondering why my catalysts and router do not require an interface Vlan10 statement.  In the past I used OpenBSD boxes to do the routing, and I first needed to configure vlan 10 on the interface before I could get inter-vlan communication to work.  With these Cisco devices it works, and I am wondering if it is because of VTP, for the fact that the ports maybe just pass all traffic, or is there some other explanation?  Below is the setup, and firmware is up-to-date on all of the devices.

When I plug a phone into the POE SGE, the phone turns on, obtains an address on the proper subnet, and conversations are clear (whereas without the ip nat inside on the new subnet the calls had a lot of static).  Possibly the reason that it works is because the phones properly create the tcp/ip packet, and it hops over the trunks and creates the states so that traffic routes back properly.  I will install wireshark to see exactly what is going on, but is there a simple explanation that I am overlooking?

There are 5 ethernet ports in the same ethernet switch to be assigned for one person (one note book), e.g. port 5, 6, 15, 16 and 23. The model of ethernet switch is cisco 2960S and one MAC address is configured on 2960S.

1. Does 2960S support this requirement to allow input the same MAC address to 5 different port?

2. If yes, can ethernet switch "smart" enough to forward the packages to "active" ethernet port which is connected to notebook and the rest of four ports are inactive.

3. if no, any solution or any work around to achieve this requirement

Cisco Switching/Routing :: SFP-H10GB-CU3M Not Working In 2960S

Feb 15, 2013

We have a 2960S using a single SFP-10GBase-SR to our Core switch. We are planning connecting the 2960S to a pair of Nexus 5k switches using Copper SFPs. We are already doing this on another 2960S so I didn't expect any surprises.

When I removed the unused SFP-10GBase-SR from te1/0/2, the interface was removed from the config and a gi1/0/50 was created in its place. Once I inserted the SFP-H10GB-CU3M, I expected that it would create a new te1/0/2 interface, but it didn't. I got the following errors: %GBIC_SECURITY_CRYPT-4-VN_DATA_CRC_ERROR: GBIC in port Gi1/0/50 has bad crc %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: gbic-invalid error detected on Gi1/0/50, putting Gi1/0/50 in err-disable state

I didn't personally order the cables, but there is no Cisco label on them, so I'm assuming it is a 3rd party SFP. After looking at other posts related to unsupported SFPs, I ran the following commands: no errdisable detect cause gbic-invalid service unsupported-transceiver

After reconnecting the SFP, it didn't go into err-disable, but I still received the following error: %GBIC_SECURITY_CRYPT-4-VN_DATA_CRC_ERROR: GBIC in port Gi1/0/50 has bad crc

My other working 2960S appears to be using 3rd party SFP as well, but I can't see the brand. Is there anything else worth trying or should I just suck it up and order Cisco SFPs?
