I have a 3560 switch with 1 VLAN (VLAN 10) where I need to make ports:
1-10 as isolated (can't contact each other)
11-20 as community (need to contact each other like a normal VLAN)
23 as promiscuous (server that ports 1-20 need to get to)
24 as promiscuous (WAN router where ports 1-20 need to get to and the remote servers).

I have a cisco 3560 switch set up as my edge router. It is working as my external demarc switch and edge router. It is sitting between the ISP's switch and my ASA firewall. It's a very basic configuration with port 1 set up with a fixed ip and switchport turned off which is connected to the ISP switch. VLAN2 is configured with an IP address and 3 ports, two of which go to different firewalls.
I found that I cannot ping a specific address from the inside interface (VLAN2), but I can from the outside interface Gig0/1. I have a few deny commands in an access list, but they don't apply to the network i'm trying to access, and I haven't had any other inaccessible networks otherwise.
Here's my config minus passwords and full IP ranges. There are two ranges, one with xxx and one with xx. The xxx is set as secondary, but is the one we really use.
Current configuration : 4808 bytes!version 12.2no service padservice timestamps debug uptimeservice timestamps log uptimeservice password-encryption!hostname my-rtr-ext!boot-start-markerboot-end-marker!enable secret 5 !

I have 2 locations, at a distance of 600KM.These two locations are well connected by Point to Point L2 VLAN with a speed of 2 MBPS and supported by CISCO 3560G switches.Location A has a VLAN to communicate to the other VLAN at Location B. Location B has also got 3 VLANS which are inter connected with Location A.Now the hardware in one of VLANs in Location B has moved to Location A for obvious reasons.
For further refernce am giving the VLAN IP address here....

I have an environment of 3 X 3560G of which I have 1st switch-CORE(f0/10) connecting to the VPN router(CE) interface-f0/0. Remaining 2 Cisco 3560's(Access) are connected to Gi0/1 and Gi0/2 on the 1st switch-CORE via gi0/1 . On all three switches I have created multiple VLANs and assigned ports to these VLAN. The switch to switch connection is trunk allowing all VLANs created on all these 3 switches. Now the issue is how I am going to have all these VLANs routed through single interface on the routeri-e f0/0, as all these subnets will communicating to remote site over VPN. What should be default gateway on the 2 Access switches and the CORE switch, also what static route should be on router to reach all subnets(VLANs) created on these 3 switches.
I have read inter-VLAN routing i-e creating sub interfaces on router but dont want to proceed with that and looking for any other way to have my VLANs talk on all three switches and then are accessible to remote site ove VPN?

I've recently purchased a Cisco catalyst 2960S-24TS-L & setup 3 V LANS 10 (no current IP),20 (192.168.2.1) and 30 (192.168.3.1) to reflect the router V LAN configuration & ip information. When connecting my PC to the switch to test connectivity on (2.1 & 3.1) I'm unable to connect to the the net but can successfully ping GW (int FE0.20 & FE0.30) 192.168.2.1 & 3.1.
The router is an Cisco 1801 & it seems this is where the configuration issue is but I'm unable to figure out how to complete the setup. It has been quite awhile since I've configured a Cisco router.
Ive never had this router connected to a switch so all router switch ports are in the default VLAN1 (192.168.1.2), with FE0 disabled. In trying to get the switch to communicate with the router I made the following router config modifications.
FE0 enabled with subinterfaces configured
FE0.10-currently no ip
FE0.20-192.168.2.1/27
FE0.30-192.168.3.1/27
I have two issues I want to resolve:
1) I do not know what additional steps are required to allow 2.1.& 3.1 V LANs to access the net.
2) I want to disable VLAN1 if possible & use the network IP for VLAN10 (192.168.1.0). I'm unsure how to do this as any change on VLAN1 immediately breaks router access and the router reconfiguration becomes more complicated with changes to the FW ACL etc.

We have 6509 VSS with FWSM Module and we have created two context on it, one is INTERNALL CONTEXT othe is EXTERNALL Context? We have spanned various VLANS in switches and FWSM context level. All VLAN Gateways are configured in context level.
Activity description : We had planned migration of these devices into a new Datacenter, it was a planned activity. During migration of devices from one Dc to a new DC we broke the VSS and kept the primary running and removed the secondary switch and migrated this secondary to new DC and powered this device ON in the new DC and checked all the config was very much fine but this device was OFF network as secondary was brought to new DC just to limit the downtime during the primary switch movement.
During the activity ( Primary switch movement )We powered off the Primary switch and mean time before shifting into new Data center We had brought up secondary switch which was already existing in the DC was put live in the network and it was working fine without any issues.
Later we had moved Primary into new data center and tried to put into VSS with the secondary , during this period the secondary device into went into RECOVERY MODE and primary device was not responding and devices went off network and immediatly we removed the VSL link and brought up primary into production network without secondary online in the network ( Without VSS just stand alone switch ) network started working, but bringing up the primary we found that some of the VLANS in the FWSM was deleted and some VLAN had misconfiguration ( example : say original VLAN ip 10.200.112.1 has become 10.300.13.1 ) also some of the access list as well as SVI was deleted making configuration mismatch.
Wanted to know while syncronization b/n primary and secondary switch in VSS if we pull out VSL link would create this type of issues.

I have a Cisco network on a ship where I work, I have an Ericsson GSM Access point which picks up local GSM 3G signal and broadcasts it onboard. I have two of these units and they are connected to a D-Link Load balancing router which is in turn connected to a Cisco 3560 Series 8 poe switch. Each unit is on a different subnet. The Cisco is on the DHCP server from my AD server (Windows 2003 Server) The Load balancing router has no DHCP and the Ericsson units have their own DHCP servers. On the Cisco switch if I plug in with a laptop I get an IP address for the DHCP on my server. I cannot ping the load balancing router from it. If I connect to the Load balancing router and set a static address for that subnet I can access the internet via the Ericsson units. And if I connect to the Ericsson I can access the Internet.

I have a cisco 3560 24PS and its connected to two ADSL broard band routers.one is a personal broadband line using a Billion ADSL broadband router, and the other is a business broardband line using BT's 2wire broadband line.on the Billion routers i have various things attached like a NAS and a printers, both wired connections. then i have laptops and phones that connect over wifi, so its configured to act as a DHCP server
the only thing conncted to my 2wire router is my company's laptop (wired or wifi depending on where i'm working from), so again i have it working as a dhcp server. The switch is configured with multiple vlans, with dhcp scopes assigned for each vlan.I have a static route pointing all traffic to my Billion ADSL for internet connectivity.
The problem i'm having is that when i turn on the cisco switch, all wifi conected devices loose their conection. only 2 things get it working again, a reboot of the router, or disabling then enabling the DHCP service on the router.upon further analysis i was able to find out that the devices were not able to pick up an address from the router. again i looked deeper into this and i can see the following on logs of my router: [code]
so it seems that the router tuns off its DHCP capabilities because it detects that my Cisco switch is running DHCP services. I need to figure out how to keep the billion routers DHCP running when ever the switch is turned on.is there a way of filtering out any DHCP chat from the switch to the router?

Pair B 2 +/- 4 meters Pair B Normal
Pair C 2 +/- 4 meters Pair C Short

From the command

It's normal? If not, then. the problem is on the cable or on one of the interfaces? The interface is connected between a fastethenert on a 2811 router and a 3560-48 switch. The cable is a straight through cat 5e cable. (I have changed several cables with same result).

I have a 2 cisco switches that are at different sites one is a Cisco CAT4500 and other 3560. The connection between the switches is a layer 2 fibre link. CAT4500 and 3560 both have VLAN interface ip addresses in order for me to connect to the switches.
I have PC A connected to CAT4500 and PC B connecting to 3560. All these devices are the same VLAN and in the same subnet. I do have trunk links all the way though allowing this vlan as we run vlans. From PC A, I can ping CAT4500, 3560 and even PC B. This tells me everything is fine regarding Layer 2 & 3.
As soon as I move PC B and connect it to the other switch CAT4500 or move the other PC vice versa (this happens in both directions). Both switches learn that the mac address has moved locations and updates its mac address table accordingly. So when I do a show mac address table and show arp, everything has learned and moved fine. However when I try to ping any other device from PC B I cannot. So the 3560 switch PC B was originally connected to, I can no longer ping, the switch cannot see the pc also. It is as if PC B has not learned anything from the switch and cannot respond or reply to any icmp. I have tried this with different end devices, same thing. I am now thinking it has something to do with the switch.

I have two networks at two sites with a dot1q trunk between the two L3 switches at both sites (no routers involved)
SITE A - Cisco 3750 L3 - VLAN ID 50
10.10.50.0/24
SITE B - Cisco 3750 L3 - VLAN ID 50
10.20.50.0/24
I would like to extend the SITE A VLAN to SITE B so that I can move hosts from SITE A to SITE B without needing to change their IP address but the vlan ID is already in use. Obviously the easy solution is to change the VLAN ID for one or other of the sites but both sites contain hosts that run 24/7. Is there a way to join two VLANs with different IDs together. So for example I create a new VLAN 60 at SITE B and associate it with VLAN 50 at SITE A.

configuring a switch or a router to limit the bandwidth for a specific user/IP when need it. Most of my remote offices are configured like this:
Users ------ 3560 switch ------- 2801 router -------- T1 to NOC -------- 7204 router with channelized DS3
I use Netflow Analyzer for high bandwidth usage alerts and can see the user's IP right away when someone is clogging our T1s. My goal is to be able to temporarily limit the bandwidth of the user taking over the T1. Whatever is best switch config or on the router.

I have a Cisco 2811 Router. I have two VLANS on the router. The first one of course is VLAN 1 and the second one is one that I created from reading everything from this forum.. it is called VLAN 531
On VLAN one I have an IP address of 10.8.1.1 and on VLAN 531 I have an IP Address of 172.16.1.1, now what I can do is this... I can.. from a workstation on the 10.8.0.0 segment, ping 172.16.1.1 and one server on that segment that has an IP address of 172.16.1.50, which is fine, but what I really want to be able to do is ping our email server which is on a 10.21.0.0 segment and I cannot. Any commands on what I would need to do to make this work as I would like the 172.16.0.0 segment to ping any other part of my LAN of my choosing.

Is it possible with a 3560 to block all traffic to a certain vlan except for one or two IP addresses? Create an ACL or something? We have a vlan for voice calls (SIP) and we are getting a lot of scnas that are making the phones ring and such, and I think we can stop this if we only allow traffic onto the vlan from the IP's the SIP traffic is SUPPOSED to be coming from.

We had a new building thats gone up and complete now and we're trying to get a ip phone working down that end of the school on a vlan. We seem to be having trouble with the VLAN going through on the 2960 switch but it works fine on our core 3560 switch.
There looks like a slight variation in the config of the switches, the 3560 switch supports the "switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q" command on the interface where as the 2960 doesn't support the "switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q". Is this why the vlan is working on the 3560 and not the 2960, or is it something else?
Both switches are using the 12.2 IOS
Heres the trunk port configured on the 3560 going down to the new building and connecting into the 2960 with a 1gbit fiber link
interface GigabitEthernet1/2 description 3560X Port UpLink as Trunk Mode switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q switchport mode trunk udld port storm-control broadcast level 60.00 spanning-tree guard root
Heres the trunk port configured on the 3560 going to a Linksys switch which then connects to the DHCP server (The other end of the 3560 is also configued as trunk)
interface GigabitEthernet0/6 description Edge Switch port for clients switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q switchport mode trunk spanning-tree portfast
Heres the working vlan port on the 3560, the ip phone is able to get an ip and ring all other phones etc
interface GigabitEthernet0/7 description Edge Switch port for clients switchport access vlan 2 switchport mode access spanning-tree portfast
Ok now heres the config for the 2960
Heres the trunk port configured on the 2960 going back upto the 3560 switch
interface GigabitEthernet1/0/25 description Port UpLink as Trunk Mode switchport mode trunk udld port storm-control broadcast level 60.00
Heres the access port configured on the 2960 which isn't passing on vlan information. Is there another command i need to use to enable encapsulation as dot1q?
interface GigabitEthernet1/0/19 description Edge Switch port for clients
switchport access vlan 2 switchport mode access spanning-tree portfast

I want to give a breif overview of the current setup and what I had planned to do in the future. This is also where a few questions come into play. Currently we have 3 10.x.x.x subnets between three buildings with a wan connection. This connection is invisible to us so it can be seen as just a lan. The speed is 100mb. We have a 2811 router sitting at each building translating their traffic back to 10.3.1.1. We then have a router in the main building which ships the 10.3.x.x traffic to a ASA and then out the door to a ISP.
My plan was to upgrade this 100mb WAN connection to 10g fiber between our buildings as they are in extremely close range of each other. I would need a equipment upgrade as a 2811 won't support 10g traffic. Rather than replacing 3 routers in each of the buildings it seemed logical that I could get something like a catalyst 4500 or 6500 and do int vlan routing making it all one huge campus lan. Creating a vlan for each building to segment the traffic between them. My understanding was that a cat 3500/4500/6500 did not need a router with sub interfaces in a one arm setup to bridge this traffic. This is where the problem comes in.I tested with a cat 3560 and was unable to get the vlans to route correctly. Do I have to have a router to get int vlan routing to work? If so then I might as well get a Router which can handle multiple 10g fiber for the core instead of a cat 4500/6500 since I'd need the router to do the int vlan routing anyway?

My first question is I have an access layer switch which is a single VLAN and I am trunking that VLAN to a distribution layer switch, I can ping the gateway on the distribution layer switch for THAT VLAN, But cannot ping the gateway address for the second VLAN I have on the distribution layer switch. I know it is simple, But I have forgotten and just need a push
Also I have a third VLAN set to route traffic not bound for those 2 VLANs out to a router is the statement "ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 172.16.252.2" good enough and do I actually need to create a VLAN for that traffic? and if so, is an access switchport the best option?

I have no router inplace that can do trunking (5505 basic license )I have 2 VLANS 10 Data 20 voice I have given both VALNs IPs lets say
-VLAN10 192.168.1.1
-VLAN20 192.168.2.1
Enabled IP routing and set the router as the gateway of last resort. Now becuase the L3 switchis doing the routing I have had to set the default gateway as the VLAN IPs. So PCs on VLAN10 get a gateway of 192.168.1.1 and phones on VLAN20 get a gateway of 192.168.2.1
Any real downside to having the 3560 doing the VLAN routing, is this the "correct "way to do things in the event I don't have a trunkable router?

Probably an easy fix but something's weird in my config. I am setting up a new network, so this is not production, Routed environment, down to the access layer using 3560-x l3 switches.
vlan 10: data
vlan 20: wifi
vlan 30: wifi guests

My objective is to allow all traffic OUTBOUND to certain subnets (10.10.0.0/24, 10.10.100.0/24, 10.10.110.0/24 10.10.120.0/24) and block any other 10.0.0.0/8 networks. By doing it this way, after blocking all other internal traffic, I allow everything else to ensure internet traffic can go out.
