Cisco WAN :: 3845 Frequent HSRP State Changes While Under Heavy Load

Mar 12, 2013

We have two 3845 routers set up using HSRP at two locations (4 routers total) connecting inside to a pair of ASA 5520 (Active/Passive failover) on each side.  These links are used for internet access and they work great under normal operating conditions - they fail over and fail back without issue.  How ever, two weeks ago our operations guys started a new data replication procedure going across these links via an IPSec tunnel created between the ASAs.  This seems to have created a situation where the IP SLA tracking is not be able to receive the ping back from the upstream router on the originating side. [code]

I have our SIEM set up to notify me whenever the router logs a State change and I got about 10 a day

D-link Dir-825 :: 5ghz Wifi Drops During Heavy Load

Apr 21, 2013

Hardware Version: C1
Firmware Version: 3.00

Wired works normally, and wireless is otherwise stable, except when under heavy load. E.g. if I initiate a large TimeMachine backup over wifi to my NAS, it will fail and the wifi will drop requiring a power cycle.I have tried a similar transfer over ethernet (~1.7Tb) and although the transfer speed wasn't great (~10MBs, likely due to NAS drive bottleneck), it completed without a problem.

If I try copying ~150Gb over wifi, however, it barely lasts 30 minutes without dropping out.Once the wifi drops, it still connects, but nothing works (I am unable to even connect to the web interface using the local IP). Other devices connected already via ethernet or 2.5Ghz still function normally, but the 5Ghz just fails, and if I try initiating a new connection to the 2.5Ghz it doesn't work until I power-cycle the router. As far as overheating goes, I'm not sure it is an environmental issue... I have the router standing upright in an open space so there is good airflow around it.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Disconnect Wan And Vlan Under Heavy Torrent Load

Feb 17, 2010

I buy this model is QOS, I just read a lot of DIR-655 streamengine article, it's hardware-base QOS router, can operate under heavy p2p application, it's why I am here. The wireless Client is ACER AS1810TZ laptop, the wireless card is Intel wifi link 1000, I have already disable power saving option. AS1810TZ worked fine with my old 802.11G router linksys WRT54GS and Buffalo WRH-HP-54G.The dir 655 seems fine when I just surfing web and download some files with IE,  but when I check the statistics, I see a lot of wireless error and tx packet/ rx packet dropped, the percent I calculate is about 0.5%, I am wondering if it's normal phenomenal? When I download several bit torrent files With XUNLEI simultaneously, total 6 files, after 3 minutes, lot of session be created, the router slow down the download and finally crashed, wan be reset and wireless connection lost. router can recover after 1 minutes and try to continue the BT download again, but failed again. Cisco WAN :: Nexus 7010 - Advertise Default Route Based On HSRP State

Sep 24, 2012

I've got two Nexus 7010's running HSRP north bound to a pair of ASA's, and BGP south bound to four 6509's. Is it possible to advertise default route to BGP neighbor (or prefer it via MED), only if the node is HSRP-active?

Essentially the goal is to create symmetry for inbound/outbound traffic. Only way I can think of so far is via an EEM script, so that when it sees  HSRP go active via syslog, it would kick off an action to remove ASN prepend,  or reduce MED, and the opposite if HSRP goes standby.

Cisco WAN :: 3845 - Correct To State That VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1 Can Support Data In Addition To Voice

May 10, 2013

I have a 3845 edge router connected to the Internet via four T1s and a HWIC-4T1/E1 card. We are adding two more T1s to the mix, and I have a VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1 card. Here are my questions:

1. Is it correct to state that the VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1 can support data in addition to voice?

2. I can use the HWIC and VWIC cards together to utilize the 6 T1s together?

3. Do I just add the card, configure the new slot, and add it to the same channel group?

Below is the current config regarding the existing card HWIC:

card type t1 0 0
security authentication failure rate 3 log
security passwords min-length 6
logging message-counter syslog

Cisco WAN :: 3750 L3 / EIGRP Load Balancing While Running HSRP?

Dec 15, 2010

I'm trying to configure load balancing on a network that is using 4 3750 L3 switches.  The network is comprised of two sites with two switches at each site running HSRP and the virtaul IP is the gateway for a server between the two switches.  The sites are connected by two independant 200meg ethernet connections (technically they are GigE limited to 200meg) p2p circuits.  The switches at site A are connected together via a GigE port and the server I have connects to each switch at its respective site using a GigE port and the same for site B.

The problem I'm running into is that I've noticed that one of the 200meg circuits is always idol unless the primary goes down, so I'd like to be able to load balance the traffic from site A to site B using both p2p circuits.  I think the problem that I'm running into has to do with the fact that HSRP is putting one of the links from the server to switch in standby unless the WAN link goes down and therefore traffic is not taking the "longer route" to the 2nd 200meg circuit. The only traffic going across this network is only the two servers sending traffic to one another. how I can get load balancing to work or if it is a possiblity with this network topology?

Cisco Switches :: Slowdown / Latency On SG 200-26P When Under Heavy IO

Apr 26, 2012

We used the SG 200-26P (firmware 1.1.1.8 ) as our main LAN switch. We have a few other 100Mb switches but our servers and nodes in our cluster are all on this switch. If you log onto a machine on one of the other 100Mb switches and then Remote Desktop to a virtual machine that is running off the SG 200-26P, and then copy say a large file (500Mb) your you will get major delays in the response time. For instance mouse clicks, screen paints, etc. Remote Desktop to a VM is unusable during this time period. This also happens for instance during backups when files are being copied from a machine to a VM.

As mentioned the other switches are 100Mb switches from HP, a bit old.  I didn't change much in the setup of the SG 200-26P our of the box.  Jumbo frames is disabled, RSTP is enabled, with Flooding for BPDU handling.

Cisco WAN :: 2811 - High CPU Utilization While Heavy Traffic?

Oct 24, 2012

We are having issues with our Cisco 2811 when there a lot of traffic on the device. Usually the router is down around 5%-10%. Total traffic might be around 2.0 MB. This is a router we are using at a remote campus. We do HD video conferencing every friday. We have a 10 MB internet connection that has our VPN connection to the main campus on it. While doing these VTC, the totall traffic is about 6 MB. The CPU Utilization then rises to approx 75% cause call issues and loss of sound. With another test with no one using the connection for anything else the utilization went up to 35%. The router has 128 MB Ram in it. Does the router need more RAM or do we need a larger internet pipe.

Frequent Lags And Disconnects With DSL?

Jan 17, 2013

At our house we have Fast Access DSL through ATT. We are getting very frequent disconnects and lags. We have multiple devices running off of a single DSL modem/router. It has wireless and wired connections available. Our wireless devices disconnect as frequent as our wired devices do. We have called ATT many times. They have had us replace the DSL filters and did a line test outside our house which came back clear. However, when they run a line test while I am on the phone with them, they say they detect multiple errors on the line. We have replaced our DSL modem with a new one as well. It is a NETGEAR VersaLink Four Port Ethernet Wireless Gateway, Software VER:06.04.12. The self-diagnostics on the Modem come back clean with no problems detected. We get static on our phone line frequently as well.

Cisco :: 7613 Having Frequent High CPU Utilization?

Apr 25, 2012

I have Cisco 7613 on my edge(MPLS Backbone). CPU utilization is shooting to 100% at frequent intervals. When I tell vendors managing device they tell that it is happening due to one of my server(connected on Fast ethernet port of 100Mbps) generating heavy traffic. My questions are:

1. Can a router of 720Gbps capability be choked due to traffic generated by 100Mbps link?

2. Interrupt CPU process utilization is well below 10% at the said time. BGP router process consumes most of the CPU. Does this means that server in question is generating too many routing updates?

3. Is there any way that I can limit routing updates on a particular link?

4. how to check which link is causing more CPU utilization.

Cisco Switches :: Frequent MSTP Topology Changes On SF-300-08 And SG-300-10?

May 22, 2011

I am trying to configure MSTP on Layer-2 network at work. We have multiple switches connected on Wireless point-to-point links with redundent links.MSTP is configured with multiple regions. All the servers are located in RegionA and other regions are connected to RegionA via multiple links.

There are 3 SG-300-10 switches in RegionA  --- SwitchA_1, SwitchA_2 and SwitchA_3.One of the simple regions (RegionB) has a single SF-300-08 switch (SwitchB) connected to SwitchA_2 via port e7 and SwitchA_3 via port e8. Hello Time, Forward Delay and Max Age are at their default values of 2, 15 and 20 respectively. The link between SwitchB (port e7) ---- SwitchA_2 is the primary link with cost 200,000 and the link between SwitchB (port e8) ---- SwitchA_3 is the backup link with cost 500,000.

The log on SwitchB is shows in the table below. As it is seen from the table there are frequent topology changes for very short duration (1-4 seconds) before the topology settles back to the configured one. (Primary link forwarding and secondary link blocking). During this time there have been no link failures reported.Same thing is also observed within RegionA (SwitchA_1, SwitchA_2 and SwitchA_3 are connected to each other).

How to stop these frequent topology changes? The topology changes within RegionA causes a lot of PPPoE sessions to reset and re-establish.Is there any way to find out what triggers these topology changes?

D-Link DCM-201 Requires Frequent Resetting

Mar 21, 2011

I just got Charter cable internet and decided to purchase my own cable modem instead of paying 5 dollars a month to rent one. I got a D-Link DCM-201. I know it is a little old but it was brand new/unused so I figured it would work out well. Ever since we got it hooked up every few hours we lose internet connectivity. The power, cable, and status lights are solid green and the Ethernet light is blinking green. The only fix I have found for this is to power cycle the modem. The problem is this happens about once every 4 hours...having to reset the router every few hours is making having cable internet a much more painful experience than it should be.

Frequent Disconnects On Cable / Router

Mar 2, 2012

The internet connects fine, but every couple of minutes it will disconnect for a couple of seconds. It's not a big deal when browsing, but it's disastrous when downloading big files or playing online games. What I've tried so far:

-Resetting the modem. No change.
-Reconnecting the modem/router completely. No change.
-Replacing the main splitter. Slight change, but problem came back eventually.
--Original problem came with the tech's 2 way 5-1002 mhz spliiter.
--I tried replacing it with a 3 way 5-1000 one. The modem on 7db and cable on 7db. It worked fine for a couple of days.
--Problem comes back today. Moving the modem to any of the 3 outputs doesn't fix anything. Moving it to 3.5db actually causes a short timeout every minute when I try to ping yahoo (as a test).
--I've also tried a 2 way 5-900 mhz splitter. It was the worse one of all.

Other info:The internet went down to the entire block at the start of the year. No one knew this of back then so we made a call to comcast, and they scheduled for a tech. A couple days later, we decide to get a new modem from the comcast center just to make sure it wasn't our modem. Some problems with activation prevents us from knowing if it was. We get back online somehow the next day, which is also the same time the tech came. He decides our numbers are weird and adds in a splitter for the internet and tv (which leads into another splitter for each room), and an amplifier for the tv. In the middle of this, another tech stops by and tells us the entire block was down and he said he fixed it now, he doesn't stay long. The first tech finishes installing everything and leaves. All is fine for a couple of days, until a week later and we start experiencing frequent disconnects. We've tried calling comcast again, but they say the connection is fine on their end and the problem is with our router. When I ping the router and the modem directly, there are no dropped connections. It's only when I try to ping anything on the internet when the problem pops up.

Cisco WAN :: 886 DSL State Machine Process High CPU

Dec 27, 2010

We have a Cisco 886 configured with two WAN's (ATM0 connected to a DSL line and Fa3 connected to a CMTS modem). We're running  DMVPN over the Cable network and GetVPN over the DSL line. When the DSL line is down we see a lot of CPU peaks up to 90%.The CPU peaks are caused by the process "DSL state machine". As soon as the DSL line has sync and the ATM0 interface goes UP the CPU peaks disappear. What we'd like to know is if this constant extra CPU load will have an impact on other resources like normal routing & switching or more specific IPSEC handling. Is it for example possible that establishing an IPSEC tunnel will fail because of the CPU peaks?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 7513 PSU In TBD State?

Oct 23, 2012

I would like to request assistance from all the gurus here for an issue i have with a Cisco 7513MX PSU. There probably arent many people who are aware of 7500 chassis as they are quite old.Isse: PSU 1 failed in chassis and we tried to replace it. Once replaced, we are getting the following output for it:

1#sh env all
Arbiter type 2, backplane type 7513MX (id 2)
Power supply #1 is TBD (id 0), Power supply #2 is 1200W AC (id 1)

We have been researching on the internet for answers but unfortunately due to the age of this model, there is very limited information available. We did find information which suggested to have BOTH PSU 1 & 2 with same revision. Right now the chassis is running only on PS2, we dont want to take down the chassis just to confirm the revision number on the PSU and there is no way to see that on the CLI. What we can do is get another pair of same revision PSUs, insert PSU1 first THEN take out PSU2 and then insert the same revision as PS1 in PSU2 slot but the moment we insert PSU1 in we get that TBD state which is not normal status and raises our doubts about putting the same revision PSUs with the method above, there is a chance that after we insert PSU1 in, the moment we take out PSU2, the chassis might not run on PSU1 due to its abnormal state.
