Jun 16, 2011We have an ASA 5510 firewall. There are 4 ports on it configured as 2 outside, one inside, and one DMZ. We have two cable modems attached to the outside ports. Our plan is to have the "inside" port directed to one outside port/cable modem, and the DMZ port directed to the other outside port/cable modem.
We have been able to get the "inside-to-outside" setup to work but not the "DMZ-to-outside" setup (at least at the same time).First off, is this possible? If so, what are we likely missing - some way to have a second default route for the DMZ?(My manager is the "Cisco person" here, not me, so I may not have enough info.

Feb 4, 2013I have an ASA5510, and site-to-site VPN with several remote clients. I have to add another client but their network range overlaps an existing tunnel. Both are using 172.16.0.0/16. I would like to 1-to-1 NAT them as 172.17.0.0/16.
Is it possible to perform the NAT on my device, post-decryption, or is it necessary that I have them perform the NAT at their end?

Oct 10, 2011I've been trying to figure this one out for quite a while. I currently have 2 inside interfaces (data, phone) and I am moving to 3 inside interfaces (servers, workstations, phones). I have not been able to get any traffic between the interfaces. With the current setup it was not a major problem. With the new setup it will be a major problem.

Jan 12, 2012I have 2 3550 12G switches that I use as core fiber switches. Switch 1 is the primary for 1/2 the V LANs and Switch 2 is the primary for the others using MST with 2 instances (I am not including the default 0 instance). I am using HSRP to provide redundancy. So far so good.
Recently a tenant in my building would like to use their own switch for data but still needs access to a V LAN on mine for voice. Again not a problem as I can configure a trunk port and give them what they need. My concern is that if they try to configure STP on their switch can they take down mine. Are there some preventions that I can put into place, such as root guard, that work with MST? What happens if they too set up MST can they kill mine?
Switch 1 is the root for 1/2 the v lans and Switch 2 is the backup root. The scenario is flipped for the other 1/2.

Sep 9, 2010I'm having some weird issues with our 3560 that's connected to an MPLS line. The speed of the port plugged into the providers equipment is 100Mb, but we're only allocated 10Mb of bandwidth from them, I tried to police our traffic out of the port using srr-queue bandwidth limit 10, however when I do that I get some really weird bandwidth results.
Using iperf I've run bandwidth tests with srr-queue bandwidth limit enabled and with it disabled, when it's disabled I get the full 10Mb as expected, however once I enable it I'm lucky to get 5Mb, and while the test is running connectivity between sites is almost useless (which is not the case if I disabled bandwidth limit). Is there anything special I should be doing when I have this enabled? I also have priority-queue out enabled with only one dscp marking placed in queue 1, with very little traffic hitting that queue, but regardless of what I do I can't get the expected bandwidth with the bandwidth limit command, even if I place my iperf traffic in that priority queue.

Nov 16, 2011My clients switch is running out of Spanning-Tree instances (c3560 only supports 128 instances). I know that running RSTP with VSTP can mitigate this that all instances over 128 will be handeled by RSTP, but before I implement this are there any other thoughts out there on how to mitigate this. Would MSTP be able to handle more STP instances or MISTP perhaps?

Dec 4, 2012Question on ASA VPN tunnels. I have one ASA 5510 in our corporate office, I have two subnets in our corporate office that are configured in the ASA in a Object group. I have a site to site IPSEC tunnel already up and that has been working. I am trying to set up another site to site IPSEC tunnel to a different location that will need to be setup to access the same two subnets. I'm not sure if this can be setup or not, I think I had a problem with setting up two tunnels that were trying to connect to the same subnet but that was between the same two ASA's. Anyways the new tunnel to a new site is not coming up and I want to make sure it is not the subnet issue. The current working tunnel is between two ASA 5510's, the new tunnel we are trying to build is between the ASA and a Sonicwall firewall.

Oct 21, 2012how i can configure a second ssid for guest access in our environment. this is our network setup prior to this request: Internet----Firewall (not ASA)---ce520---C1131AG and CME router is also connecting to the ce520 switch. we only have two vlans: one for voice and two for data.
Presently, there is no vlan configured on the AP because it on broadcasting ont ssid and wireless users gets IP from a windows DHCP server on the LAN. the configuration on the ce520 switch port for the AP and other switches say access vlan is the DATA vlan which automatically becomes the native vlan for all trunk port connecting the AP and other Stiches to the network.
Now with this new requirement, i have made my research and i have configured the AP to broadcast both the production and the guest Vlans. The two vlans are 20-DATA and 60-Guest. I made the DATA vlan on the AP the native vlan since the poe switch is using the DATA vlan as native on the trunk ports. I configured the firewall to serve as DHCP server for the guest ssid and i have added the ip helper-address on the guest vlan interface on all switches while the windows server remains the dhcp server for the production DATA Vlan. I have confirmed that the AP, switches can ping the default gateway of the guest dhcp server which is another interface on the firewall. I can now see and connect to all broadcasted ssids but the problem is I am not getting IP addresses from both the production dhcp server and guest dhcp server when i connected to the ssid one at a time. My AP config is attached below.
Do i need to redesign the whole network to have a native vlan other nthan the data vlan? Does the access point need to be aware of the voice vlan? Do the native Vlan on the AP need to be in Bridge-group 1 or can i leave it in bridge-group 20?

May 13, 2013I am trying to build a new network from scratch, I have the WLC 5508 w/ Aironet 3600e APs connected to my Netgear Smart Switches and a Linksys RV082 router that I'm using as my DHCP server with several VLANs for several stuff on my Switches.
I have 2 questions:
1. Can I have 5 Interfaces configured on 5 different VLANs, each SSID on each a different Port:
Port 1: Controller management only=> 192.168.x.x /24
Port 2: SSID 1: WiFi Internal=> 172.16.x.x/12 (Radius Auth with no sharing)
Port 3: SSID 2: WiFi Internal w/ sharing=> 192.168.x.x/24 (Radius Auth with sharing)
Port 4 :SSID 3: WiFi Guest=> 10.0.x.x/8 (Web Auth)
Port 5: SSID 4: WiFi IT=> 192.168.x.x/24 ( Radius or certificate Auth with access to the controller management interface)
2. How can I use the Controller as the DHCP server for all the WiFi traffic, and how should that be configured to work with my other DHCP server?

I have buildings geographically dispersed that are configured with multiple vlans in interface groups so that I can maintain an addressing scheme of dhcp assigned addresses per building. Each building is also further grouped as AP groups. I'd like to know if by assigning the same wlan ssid to each of the AP groups, will I maintain addressing integrity for each building? I'm thinking it will work.
Do the buildings have to be outside AP range of each other to avoid problems?

Nov 20, 2011I want to establish GRE over IPsec tunnel between four branch offices and head office. At branch offices, I have 1841 router with Advanced Security software. At head office, I have a ASA5510 7.2 as frontend with one public IP addres and 1841 router behind it in private address space. Since ASA is not supporting GRE tunnels, can ASA be endpoint for GRE over IPsec? If not, can ASA pass this tunnel to the 1841 router behind it, so 1841 would be logical tunnel endpoint? What should I pay attention? Should both ASA and every 1841 support NAT-T, or just ASA?

Mar 14, 2011We have to use scp on all of our network devices. It worked quite well on our routers and switches but I can't seem to get it to work for the firewalls and IPS. I enabled scp on my ASA5510 using the command "ssh scopy enable". I also ensured that a rsa key was generated and that ssh ver 2 was enabled. But I can't seem to locate the commands to actually have my firewall either copy it's configuration to a server or reach out to a server to pull down a file. We are using IOS 8.2(1).

Jul 16, 2011I just moved our vpn over to using LDAP/DAP instead of the previous RADIUS we were using before. First of all, the group policy split tunnel is setup for Tunnel Network list Below Network list has a group of networks named "split-tunnel" setup with all of our internal subnets in it. Which seems to be working fine, users are hitting internal networks no problem.Where the issue lies is surfing the web while they are connected to the VPN.I think I know what one of the the issues are, I'm just not sure how to get around it. I have a proxy server setup that all domain traffic goes through say 10.20.30.40. That is obviously on our internal subnet. Our remote users has a policy on their laptops set to where if they can see/get to the proxy server then it pushes all traffic through there, however if they can not, it goes straight to the internet. That way they can still surf the web when they aren't connected to the domain network.
With the new DAP vpn policies, it seems as though they are trying to go through the proxy but failing so all http traffic is getting blocked on their computer as I can still ping say google.com...just can't open the web page.In my SALES-VPN access lists there isn't any acl that allows any traffic to 10.20.30.40(proxy server) so there isn't any reason their laptop would think it could get to it correct?I can't put an access-list SALES-VPN extended deny ip any any log critical at the end of the acl list because then it doesn't show up as an option to apply to the DAP since the acls have to be either permit or deny, not a mix.Also, if I just create an ACL access-list DENY-VPN extended deny ip any any log critical and apply it to the DAP *after* the SALES-VPN ACLs thinking all traffic would flow down as in go through all the permit acls first, and then hit the deny acl after, it just blocks all traffic.It almost seems that some traffic that isn't specifically being permitted by the permit acls is still getting through which is obviously not wanted. However, if I try to rdp into a server that isn't specifically permitted in the SALES-VPN acls it doesn't work so I'm kind of at a loss..
