Cisco Wireless :: 2504 Controller / 1602E - External Or Integrated Antenna For Better Coverage

Mar 24, 2013

I'm planning to use these with a 2504 controller.  However, I cannot find a straight answer on whether or not the External Antennas provide better coverage than the Integrated Antennas?  These will be wall mounted in a combo office/warehouse environment.  Also, I cannot figure out if the External Antennas are even included with the 1602E (AIR-CAP1602E-A-K9)?  or what if any power adapter/ injector is included with the AP's?

Cisco Wireless :: 1142N / Internal Versus External Antenna Coverage

Mar 19, 2013

I have a few 1142N Aironets with internal antennas in place, and I am not thrilled by its coverage. I want to extend my wireless network because of a new building which led me to the following question; Is there is any difference in wireless coverage when using external dipole antenna’s (the small ones, for example the AIR-ANT2524 for a new 2600 Aironet) versus the internal (dipole) antenna’s. I am aware you have more options when using external antenna’s, such as omni, directional, outdoor etc.

For an indoor office or warehouse deployment, where temperature is not a concern, why would I buy for example the 2600E with 4 dipole antenna’s over  the 2600i?I have read most Aironet datasheets and their antenna options, but can’t find a word about the advantages of external dipole antennas. I would expect external antennas would give better coverage.. is this true?

Cisco Wireless :: 1602e Effects Of Leaving AP Antenna Folded

Apr 28, 2013

We are deploying Aironet1602e AP's with the Aironet dual-band dipole antennas (air-ant-2524dw-r)  into a warehouse location with very low ceiling clearance.  To avoid head bumps and broken antennas, we are considering leaving the antennas in the folded position.  How much detrimental effect will this have on the signal strength and pattern?

Cisco Wireless :: Increase Coverage For AP801 (integrated 881W)?

Cisco Wireless :: CAP-1602E - External Antennas In Separate Rooms

Feb 14, 2013

I have a question about external antennas on an access point. I have to plan a wireles solution, that also includes coverage in the industrial freezers. The freezers are one part of the sotck rooms, so the general coverage will be done with 1602I access points.

Since there are quite a lot of freezers in one location, installing separate AP in every freezer will be very expensive. I wondered if there is a possibility to put one 1602 access point with external antennas outside the freezer and then extend the antennas with 2m cables inside different freezers (1602E has three external antennas, so one antenna to each freezer).

Would this installation even work?

The freezers are quite small rooms maybe 2-3m2 sow the coverage is not a problem. But does this installation support multiple clients per AP in different freezers doing stocktaking with handheld terminals?

Dell :: Latitude D600 Wireless - Broadcom 570x Gigabit Integrated Controller

Oct 13, 2012

I recently got a Dell Latitude D600. I know, it's outdated. I'm running Windows XP SP3.

My problem is that after installing all of the drivers for the Broadcom 570x Gigabit Intergrated Controller, I can't get the wireless to pop up in the bottom right hand corner. I can only connect with an Ethernet cable directly from my router. I have tried many things, even support packages, but I can't seem to get it to work. I've also tried Fn+F2. Also, in the Device Manager I see a "Network Controller" but it has a question mark that is yellow beside it, and I can't seem to install it.

Cisco Wireless :: 1242 / 2504 - Warehouse AP And Antenna Choice

Dec 23, 2012

We'd like to work with Motorola MC3190 a/b/g handheld scanners in our warehouse so we need WiFi connectivity there. The warehouse has concrete walls and is divided into two parts - loading bay 18m x 42m (59ft x 138ft) and main warehouse building 44m x 42m (144ft x 138ft). The loading bay is just a simple hangar with gates mostly open, temperature could be very low there, down to -20C, the right thing would be to install an external AP there but still I want to get along with the signal from the inside.

Some very basic site survey with the Cisco 1242AG ap shows that there is -70db signal at the loading bay from warehouse AP. What do you think about mounting the antenna at the loading bay and connect it to the AP inside the warehouse? The actual ceiling  height is 8m (26ft) but the steel beams are 6m (20ft) from the floor and that will be the mounting height of the AP's. (I think it's rather high though). Storage racks are made of metal and are up to 7m (23ft) high. Stored materials are mostly different types of fiberglass cabling, polyethylene, steel cabling, steel wires, metal barrels.

The environment is very dynamic and it's rather hard to predict the actual RF situation so I'm trying to determine the worst case scenario. So I'd like to use 2504 wireless controller with five 3502e AP's with ANT-2422DW dipole antennas mounted at the ceiling beams in the warehouse at 6m height. My thought was to set scanners to work in b/g band (there will be several laptops there too). There is a little diagram attached below.Still think it's too high, and doubt about the antennas. Are there better choices for such a setup? Maybe with wall mounted antennas?

Cisco Wireless :: AP 1240AG And External Antenna Configuration

Mar 19, 2012

I am setting and configure the Cisco AP 1240AG with 5GHz External Antenna extension. The whole product is called iWap. The problem now is that the wireless signal amplitude only can reach 3 bars instaed of ful 5 bars.

Few questions I have for this setup and configuration :

1. What is the default or original frequency of antenna of Cisco AP1240AG? Can a 5GHz antenna work with the AP 1240AG whereby it is run with 802.11a and 802.11g?

2. If 5GHz antenna can work with 802.11a or 802.11g, what is the setting or configuration needed to be done at the Cisco 1240AG? Or, no setting or configuration needed because it will automatically work by default?

Cisco Wireless :: 2504 - Using Both External And Internal DHCP On WLC

Nov 25, 2012

I am wondering if the folowing is a valid configuration:

WLC2504
AP2600

I need 3 SSID/VLAN, 1 for corporate devices, 1 for coporate smartphones, 1 for guest.

Port 1 on the 2504 should be used for management and corporate devices and connect to the corp network. Port 2 is for smartphones/guest and will be connected to a Cisco ASA 5515 that is connected to a second ISP.

Corp devices should get IP from an Windows DHCP. Smartphones/guest should get IP from the WLC. Is this possilbe? I read this in a document "To use the WLC as a dhcp, you need to enable DHCP proxy as it is required." Some how I am imagining that this will mess with the Windows DHCP. Is it better to use the ASA as DHCP for smartphones/guest?

Cisco Wireless :: 2504 Controller - Can AP Be Set With Static Channels

Nov 11, 2012

We have a Cisco 2504 controller and approximately 35 AP's. Some of the AP's are located directly above each other (on another floor). When I run a basic annalyzer, it appears that there is some adjacent AP traffic, the controller has some of the close AP's with the same channel, so there is some RF interferance. The AP's currently are all setup for "G" and majority of the AP's are 1200 series, most of them are 1242's. Should and can the AP's be set with static channels so that there is no adjacent signals? If so where in the controller can that be done?

Cisco Wireless :: 3602 AP Cannot Join 2504 Controller

Oct 16, 2012

This is a new setup and has not worked yet. I have multiple 3602 APs and one 2504 Controller. I thought initially I could plug-in an AP into one of two POE Ports on the 2504. During debug mode I see that it has low power, was suprised that the 2504 switch can't fully power the AP? Is this correct?Anyways I have another POE switch that I am using with ample power. The configuration for my wireless is that it will be completely segmented off of my internal network as this is for guest access. So DNS servers are external so I cannot create host entries for the AP to discover the controller. With that being said I believe that is just one way for the discovery process to happen. I have my controller management interface and DHCP scope on the controller on the same subnet plugged into the same POE switch. The AP does seem to get a DHCP address and I can ping the controller from the AP. I cannot get any further then that. I will not join the controller and the radios get disabled. I get messages such as "discovery response from MWAR is rejected. I will post a debug log of the AP and its bootup process. This is new equipment so I would assume the firmware is somewhat up-to-date and the 3602 AP is somewhat the latest model.

Cisco Wireless :: 2504 Controller - Best Way To Have Internet Only Wi-Fi Network

Nov 29, 2012

Our current way of configuration for this is standalone ap's with multiple ssid's. The main network ssid's are on the 10.0.0.0 networks. The internet only ssid is on the 192.168.1.0 network. ( this is a wireless network only,no wired) They all get there dhcp address from a layer 3 switch. To prevent the wireless 192.168.1.0 intenet only network from getting to the 10.0.0.0 networks, we just put a simple source & destination deny acl on the in vlan interface of the 192.168.1.0 network on the layer 3 switch. Now that we are impementing a Cisco 2504 controller, the management and ap manger are both on the 10.0.0.0 network.( both on port 1 with dynamic ap manager enabled)  I can setup as many ssid's on the 10.0.0.0 network and they all work fine. But when I setup the 192.168.1.0 internet only ssid it will not connect. I'm assuming that its because the 192.168.1.0 network or anyone trying to connect and use that network has to go through the controller located on the 10.0.0.0 network. I'm thinking that the acl on the vlan interafce is the problem. So, if I'm correct, what is the best way to setup a separate internet only network through the private networks?
