Cisco Wireless :: AP 1240AG And External Antenna Configuration
Mar 19, 2012
I am setting and configure the Cisco AP 1240AG with 5GHz External Antenna extension. The whole product is called iWap. The problem now is that the wireless signal amplitude only can reach 3 bars instaed of ful 5 bars.
Few questions I have for this setup and configuration :
1. What is the default or original frequency of antenna of Cisco AP1240AG? Can a 5GHz antenna work with the AP 1240AG whereby it is run with 802.11a and 802.11g?
2. If 5GHz antenna can work with 802.11a or 802.11g, what is the setting or configuration needed to be done at the Cisco 1240AG? Or, no setting or configuration needed because it will automatically work by default?

I need to get at least 1Mbps performance. AP clients are Motorola MC9190-G mobile computers.

I have an unusual request to support an access point with a single external antenna to cover a small physical area (elevator car!!). All Cisco's currently shipping APs have dual band antennas using MIMO for throughput in "normal" deployments. Will a deployment with a single antenna work?

I have a few 1142N Aironets with internal antennas in place, and I am not thrilled by its coverage. I want to extend my wireless network because of a new building which led me to the following question; Is there is any difference in wireless coverage when using external dipole antenna’s (the small ones, for example the AIR-ANT2524 for a new 2600 Aironet) versus the internal (dipole) antenna’s. I am aware you have more options when using external antenna’s, such as omni, directional, outdoor etc.
For an indoor office or warehouse deployment, where temperature is not a concern, why would I buy for example the 2600E with 4 dipole antenna’s over the 2600i?I have read most Aironet datasheets and their antenna options, but can’t find a word about the advantages of external dipole antennas. I would expect external antennas would give better coverage.. is this true?

I'm planning to use these with a 2504 controller. However, I cannot find a straight answer on whether or not the External Antennas provide better coverage than the Integrated Antennas? These will be wall mounted in a combo office/warehouse environment. Also, I cannot figure out if the External Antennas are even included with the 1602E (AIR-CAP1602E-A-K9)? or what if any power adapter/ injector is included with the AP's?

When we take a look at the internal antennas on the 1142 AP, we notice the 5ghz pointed all the same way, but for the 2.4ghz we can see each offset by 45/120 degrees. It was my understanding that all antennas are omnidirectionals on the 1142, why are those 2.4ghz antennas not all pointed the same way? onfiguration advantage and that each antenna is indeed omnicadirectional? Example, if I shut just one antenna off, do I lose a sector (120degree)?

I just realized that my internet is slow when my antenna is on top of my computer. I have a pci card with an external antenna connecting to it. If it's on top of my computer, my internet is slow, but if I move it three feet in front of it, it's fast. This makes me think that my computer is somehow blocking or conflicting with the signal. Is this normal, or is there something I can fix in my computer? Download speeds with the antenna on top are around 0.54Mbps, and if I put it as far away as I can, I get around 20Mbps.

Cisco 1240AG converting to WEP to WPA
Access Point Model: Cisco 1240AG
System Software Filename: c1240-k9w7-tar.123-7.JA5
System Software Version: 12.3(7)JA5
Bootloader Version: 12.3(7)JA1
Access Point Model: Cisco 1131AG
Software: Cisco Aironet Desktop Utility 2.1.02
After converting encryption from WEP to WPA in a Cisco 1240AG in personal mode with an SSID name of example1 and Cisco 1131AG access point in personal mode with an ssid of example2; both with the same wpa passphrase, I created a new profile on the Cisco Aironet Desktop Utility with a new profile name as well as a WPA passphrase, but the desktop utility will only connect to the access point if one network name, example1 or example2, is entered.

I'm on my first configuration of a Cisco firewall. I'm trying ASA 5505 using Cisco ASDM 5.2 (not GUI). I configured Vlan1 (inside) and Vlan2(outside) and all seems to work correctly. Network clients can use Internet and ping internal LAN. But I've some problems with vpn and other services: 1. when I try to connect to external VPN server the connection procedure stopped in username/password validation (if I try directly, without firewall ASA, there's no problem) 2.I've problems also to see external security cam working trough a web server. I open port 1723 - 500 and GRE. What can I do more?

I'm looking at creating WLANs using standalone APs for the first time. I know this can all be done with trivially a controller, but this project can't stretch to that...Can I use MAC filtering on standalone APs to restrict which clients associate?I think these will be 1240AG devices but I assume the answer is the same for all models? Can I mix MAC filtering with WEP/WPA? And use MAC filtering without encryption?

For 2 year now we have been running aironet 1240ag access points throught our warehouse. We use a telnet session on our handheld scanners to connect to our database on the main server. This last week our scanners started getting dropped from the access points serveral times throught the day and often would continue to get dropped at 1 minute intervals for several minutes at a time. This appears to be happening on all of our access points and is affecting all of our scanners but not at the same time. Each time a clinet is dropped we get the following event log on the AP.

how is the IP configuration for this Fast Ethernet F0.
This is because usually we only assign IP to the BVI interface. Is it after that, the Fast Ethernet F0 automatically also be assigned the same IP?
As such, when goto the Fast Ethernet F0 by CLI, by using no shut then this will Enable the Fast Ethernet Port?

They are 8 APs Cisco 1240AG installed inside our warehouse, on the other hand we had some places with poor signal level -82dbm so we put two router linksys wrt54g.
The Cisco APs have 2.2dbi omnidirec antennas and they are configured with the same SSID on different channels (1,6,11) and max tx, rx (100mw).
When we check the signal level we realized that we have more signal from the linksy than the Cisco?
