Cisco Wireless :: Difference Between AP 1240AG And Linksys WRT54g Router
Mar 12, 2012
They are 8 APs Cisco 1240AG installed inside our warehouse, on the other hand we had some places with poor signal level -82dbm so we put two router linksys wrt54g.
The Cisco APs have 2.2dbi omnidirec antennas and they are configured with the same SSID on different channels (1,6,11) and max tx, rx (100mw).
When we check the signal level we realized that we have more signal from the linksy than the Cisco?

I am considering to purchase a Linksys Wireless router, but I just don't know which one to select.There are so many different types that seem to have very similar (if not equal) specs.If I just limit myself to the WRT120N, the WRT160N and the E1000, they all have 4 ethernet ports (10/100), and they all support 802.11 b/g/n for the wireless part.Obviously they all promise a blazing performance, and wireless coverage throughout the whole house, without (many) blind spots.But if their specs are the same, why are they different types?

Is there a difference between (1) the Router Password (on the Admin tab of the web-based utility), (2) the Wireless Security Passphrase (on the wireless security tab of the web-based utility) , and (3) the password on the Router Settings in the Cisco Connect application?

What is the difference between EA6500-NP and EA6500 (no -NP suffix)? I see some stores (like Staples) advertising a clearance price on the EA6500 (without the -NP suffix).

I'm consider either the EA4500 or the EA6500.I've got a desktop computer and a Kindle Fire HD, my son has a school laptop that he uses during the school year. At this time we don't have any HD TVs or smartphones but that may change in the future. Also something to add, not sure if it would make a difference or not but we've got Wildblue/Dish Network Satellite Internet.I'd rather only have to buy one router that will last me for several years.

I recently joined an ISP support desk and increasingly often come across LAN configuration with a separate "modem" (DSL cable mobem or Fibre/Satellite/Fixed Wireless box - will call all these toys "modems" from now on). I have a bit of an issue understanding the difference between Internet and LAN ports of Lynksis routers (there are other brands too but as the most advanced on the market, Linksys has been given me the hardest time so far).
Let's take WRT-120N as it is one of the most popular Linksys models out there. Basically, I am coming to a conclusion that the 4 LAN ports act like switch ports and cannot have different IP addresses (so as a single WRT-120 device could be a gateway for up to 4 different networks) and Internet port is the one that is getting an address different from LAN port address (gets it from "modem"). If my understanding is right, "modem" must be hooked up only to WAN port to work and if we connect it to one of the 4 LAN ports we cannot access Internet. But is my understanding right or wrong??Also, can these routers have one default gateway address for Ethernet connection and a different one for WiFi?Are there any other differences between Internet and LAN ports?If you get to decide what port to connect the "modem" to does it matter what is the "modem's" physical implementation? (DSL modem, Sat box, etc)I possess X3000 home gateway myself and have a similar question about it's Cable and LAN ports which I will post in "Cable and DSL" forum.

I'm looking to upgrade my WRT54G as I have had NO luck in getting my Galaxy Tab to connect through it so far (can connect and get an IP address but can't get out to the web) and have had intermittent problems with my Blu-ray lately. I am looking for something with the best affordable range, live 3 floors down from the current one and get about 3/4 signal strength so there's not much interference it seems. I watch a lot of online content through Hulu, Netflix, and LMB games and share with 2 other people.I am looking at the E series, probably the E1200, 1500 or 1550 as they seem to meet my needs. Any users have any advice about the ease of install and use of either of these? Or would it be better to get a gateway as we are considering going from DSL to U-verse service, twice the speed for $2/month more

I have an old wireless router lying behind me and I want to use that old router as a switch. That old router is a knock-off,no-name router brand called "Gigafast" and the model number is WF19-CAPR. There are also variants to that router name as well.The router that I currently have is a Linksys WRT54G wireless-G router. I'm planning to upgrade the wireless router in favor of Wireless-N in the near future.I want to know how can I use that particular Gigafast router as a switch and I want to link that router up to my WRT54G router. The scenario goes as follows:
Cable internet connection ----> WRT54G router ---> Gigafast router (as a switch)
The IP address for the WRT54G router is 192.168.1.1, while the Gigafast router is 192.168.1.254. I may know by now that I have to disable DHCP on the gigafast router and I have to change an IP address to something that is "not in range" with the WRT54G router, am I right?I want to expand the number of ports, so I can connect with future devices such as a VoIP ATA adapter, a laptop and possibly an entertainment box (i.e. Apple TV or Boxee box)

have one router WRT54G with firmware version v2.02.7, Feb. 27, 2004, and I'm trying to use this router to get my PS3 connected to the internet, but in the PS3 appears that I'm using NAT Type 3 and to enable some online features in my PS3 I must change it to NAT Type 2 (from the router configuration), I tried everything that I found (put my PS3 in DMZ zone, enabling TCP/UDP ports, enabling/disabling UPnP, disabling Media Server Connections in my PS3, etc.) and nothing works,

Our office has 2 connections to the internet. Each connection comes into our building through a Linksys WRT54G router. I like to connect the routers together through their ethernet ports so that we can share resources such as printers and etc. Should I config each router such that they are actually on the same network? For example:Router 1:Router IP 192.168.1.1DHCP serves 192.168.1.100-150Router 2:Router IP 192.168.1.2DHCP serves 192.168.151-200

I have a WRT54G wireless router that I haven't used in years because my old cable provider supplied me with a router. I recently switched cable providers & they don't provide a wireless routers. I would like to use my WRT54G router, but I don't have the cd. I figured it wasn't a problem because I can just do a manual setup using the ip address 192.168.1.1. I receive the pop up window to enter the user name & password. I follow the instructions & just type in the password field the word admin & l left the user name blank but it doesn't work.

My 'network' looks like this:
CABLE MODEM ===> WRT54G
WRT54G Port1 ===> PC
PC is running Windows/XP sp3 with all updates installed. It has no wireless adapter.WRT54G model number sticker shows ver.2. I don't think the firmware has ever been upgraded.This used to work. What has changed? The laptop that used to connect wireless is dead. I now have a 2nd PC that sits on the same table as the old PC. It has no wireless adapter at this point, but eventually either it, or the old computer, will be getting its internet connection wireless-ly, as the computers will be physically in separate rooms. I can't see how these changes would affect the operation of the router.

I have a WRT54G router that's worked for a very long time. I had WEP security set up and it worked fine until recently. About a week ago my three year old son managed to reset the router (I'm still not sure how). When I go onto the web-based setup page I am unable to change the wireless security setting. I select an option from the drop down menu but then the page reloads and nothing has changed.

how i should set up my new valet m-10.Im currently using a WRT54G as my main router connected to my modem in my home office, and a WAP54 set up as a repeater in the living Room. We have multiple devices still using Wireless G, and a few that have Wireless N so im wanting to use the valet just for my N devices and My WRT54 & WAP54 for the G. So do I just cascade the valet off the WRT54? or should I make the Valet the main Router and cascade the G routers? the reason I have the repeater is because the wireless signal is weak in the living room and bedrooms.

I recently set up a wrt54g router that I got used from a friend. I pressed the 'reset' button on the back, configured it for my computer according to the instructions on the website, and everything worked fine for a couple of days. Then I lost connectivity, tried powercycling my modem, but had to reset and reconfigure the router again. Worked fine again for a couple of days, then the problem repeated itself, so I reset and reconfigured again.

Situation: I have one Internet connection and I have need of two networks. One filtered with OpenDNS and the other unfiltered. I have a Speedstream DSL router provided by ISP for connecting to Internet. I have two WRT54G's and would like to utilize them to form two networks. The Speedstream is a router with a gateway address of 192.168.1.254.
From that Speedstream (only one network plug) I would like to go to a 5port switch. From that switch, I would like to configure the two WRT's to be two different networks (one using OpenDNS settings for filtering) with one having a 192.168.1.x address scheme and the other (no Internet filtering) having a 192.168.10.x scheme. Both would have DHCP enabled for their networks and the Speedstream would have DHCP disabled. There is not a need (at this point) to have the networks communicate.

Ive had a WRT54G v5 for awhile now. And just recently I went out of town and had turn off my router. When coming back and turning everything back on for some reason both wired and wireless components both have a connection then it loses the connection for awhile and comes back on. Ive power cycled both the router and modem. Called my provider and they said it was my router after doing some diagnostic tests. I tried to update the firmware and ive tried to restore to factory settings. Still it has a connection then it loses it.. Ive noticed on the modem when its not working that only the SENT light is flashing. (modem has power,received,sent, cable,pc). It is on AUTO DHCP and gets a ip and everything.

This router was given to me without any documentation. No one knows what the password is for the wifi or web interface. I have tried to reset the router to factory defaults without any luck. I have tried regular reset method and 30/30/30 and still it is holding on to the custom settings. Here is what I know:
1. The router can be pinged without any errors.
2. The logon screen comes up requesting username and password. I have tried all of the default inputs (blank/admin, admin/admin).
3. The wireless is working and the SSID is Linksysxx.
4. I tried the following:at the DOS prompt typed cd then, TFTP -i 192.168.1.1 PUT (my fw).binunplugged the router, plugged in and hit "Enter"After about 15 seconds I got the error message, "Invalid Password". I tried this again and got the same results.I know the router is working, but I can not get it for go back to factory settings.
