Cisco Wireless :: Aironet 1240ag Dropping Clients?

For 2 year now we have been running aironet 1240ag access points throught our warehouse. We use a telnet session on our handheld scanners to connect to our database on the main server.This last week our scanners started getting dropped from the access points serveral times throught the day and often would continue to get dropped at 1 minute intervals for several minutes at a time. This appears to be happening on all of our access points and is affecting all of our scanners but not at the same time.Each time a clinet is dropped we get the following event log on the AP.

We are using an Aironet 1240AG series wireless AP here to connect handheld scanners. They work fine on WPA. However, when we switch to WPA2, they often lose connection. We have tested on 802.11g and a bands, with various encryption types (TKIP, AES, TKIP/AES). Also, how can I update the outdated firmware without signing up for a service contract?

I work as Network administrator in a building products plant at Poland. We had core switch HP Procurve 6200yl with 5 vlans, and 11 Aironet 1240AG Access points without controller. I have a problem with create 2 wi-fi VLANs on the Cisco AP's and linked it with HP switch.
VLANs on the switch:
1 - Default (for office sutff) - working great,
2 - Production (for production stuff) - working great,
3 - Inter (for Router's) - working great,
4 - WMS - i need configure it as wireless,
5 - WiFi with Radius - i need configure it as wireless.VLANS on the Access Points:
4 - WMS - for warehouse terminals - WPA2,
5 - WiFi for office stuff with Radius.
I'm easily able to get it running a single SSID (non-VLAN) network and confirm that I can use that network fine. However, I need to set up these 2 VLANs. I can connect to it via telnet if that'll let me program it faster.

I am an IT professional that is installing my first extended range wireless AP in my companies warehouse. I am very excited!
Now I have set up many a linksys and repeater wireless networks, so when I was looking into the Aironet 1240AG I thought ?No Problem!?
And at first, it is not!
I have the AP and antenna set up here in my office before I take it out and mount it in the warehouse. And I can get connected to it, no security for now, no filters, I just want to connect and make it work.
I stay connected for maybe 3 minutes, I can get to the internet, I can ping all my servers. Full connectivity. But then for no reason the connection fails and I cannot reconnect.
The error I get in the log is
Interface Dot11Radio0, Deauthenticating Station 0006.2510.bbe3 Reason: Previous authentication no longer valid
So strange! So I have reset the AP to factory defaults and then set the SSID, and I can connect, again for a second, then nothing.
I have tried with multiple wireless cards, even laptops. Thinking maybe the problem was on the computer side.

We have Cisco Aironet 1240AG Wireless AP's in out network. Now, we have some PC's, laptops and mobile phones connected with with this AP and all devices are working fine. Now suddenly from today when I am trying to associate some new devices to the AP it is not working means the devices are not associating.

I have a "standart" settings of Cisco Aironet 1240AG with ENABLED broadcasting SSID, encryption is WPA2 (AES). I can see the wifi network (ssid) with windows system but with MAC OS 10.5 and MAC OS 10.7 also with iPhone the wifi is acting like hidden. But If I manually enter the wifi ssid and set the proper encryption the connection work normally. Also I have a separete windows partition on one MACbook and this windows 7 have no problem to see the SSID of my network. But If i Boot to the MAC OS the WIFI is "hidden" until the manually connection. (same problem on iphone, manuall connect with manually entered SSID is working well).

I have a Aironet 1240AG and have our main SSID set up on Radio0-802.11G. It uses WPA TKIP. Everything works fine on it. Recently we have been getting a lot of visitors who need wireless access, so reather than hand out our main key to visitors, I decided to create another SSID on Radio1-802.11A for guests. For some reason the new SSID does not show up on the available networks on client devices. You can connect to it manually by entering the name and key. But how do I get the SSID to broadcast on the 2nd SSID. A lot of these guests are not very computer smart, so it becomes a real pain to have to walk them through connecting to the guest network.

I have a Cisco Aironet 1240AG Access Point and I am trying to setup a guest network that is secure and limited in bandwidth utilization. I see an option under security > SSID Manager on the web interface to select an interface of Radio0-802.11G, Radio1-802.11A or both. Can I put the guest network on the Radio1-802.11A and make it more secure/bandwidth limited or does this option not matter?

I just installed an Aironet 1602i, standalone WAP. I have it configured to use a RADIUS server in our office. However, two issues have come up when trying to get clients connected.
iPhones and iPads won't connect to either the 2.4 or the 5 GHz radios.
No one can connect to the 5 Ghz radio.
Both radios are UP according to the GUI interfaces of the WAP. Also, laptops and android devices are able to connect to the 2.4GHz radio but not the 5 GHz radio.
I am on the latest version of the firmware.

I have recently setup one stand alone aironet 1140 with mostly default settings with WPA key. but, it seems sometimes it's dropping the connections. hardly 15 users are connecting to aironet at the moment.

I have 3 AP541Ns setup in a small environment. The wireless clients use laptops to attach, via RDP, to a Microsoft Terminal Server. They need the ability to walk, with laptop, from room to room, IE roaming wireless clients. The issue is the clients drop and re-attach constantly and takes up to 5 minutes to re-attach to the WLAN / RDP session. Is this a symptom of going from WAP to WAP and is their anything I can do about it.

I'm setting up a Cisco Aironet 1141 (standalone mode, AP) to handle wireless traffic in the office. It gives out 2 mbssids, one of which authenticates domain users through a RADIUS server and places them in an appropriate VLAN (RADIUS options 64, 65, and 81). The other is a guest ssid that uses WPA-PSK and places users in the restricted guest VLAN. Physically, the AP is connected to a 3750 PoE Catalyst, to which RADIUS and DHCP servers are also connected. AP, SSIDs, RADIUS and EAP authentication all work. The configuration given below is a working configuration. People do get authenticated and do get placed in the appropriate vlan. The problem is that, once authenticated, the "Obtaining IP Address" phase on the client hangs and most clients timeout without getting an IP address. Given that the DHCP server is on the same switch and a test simple ASUS Wi-Fi IP gives out the same scenario (except the multiple VLAN) at the speed of light, I don't think that it's a problem with the network connections between clients and the DHCP server. After reading some topics here, I realized that probably other communication will be extremely slow, as well, but haven't tested that for sure. Clients are all non-Cisco - smartphones, notebooks, etc. Most of them are 802.11G, not N.

I'm having a problem with my clients dropping the network connection constantly throughout the campus. I am using a Cisco 5508 controller and the APs are LAP1141N. At first I thought it was a roaming issue but I tested with only 1 AP and the problem persisted, I can tell you that we don't have interference problems and that our old linksys APs used to work without flaws.

I have several wired and wireless devices connected to the router which is running the latest firmware (2.0.2.1) and I have this issue with all wireless devices. The router is configured for B/G/N Mixed, Channel 6, and to broadcast the SSID. Security Mode is WPA2-Personal w/ key renewal set to 3600. Connection control is configured to allow only the desired MAC addresses. All wireless clients are configured for DHCP (as are some of the wired clients that do not have this issue). I have tried various setting changes over time, none of which have resolved the issue.
What I have determined, and may be useful, is that each time this occurs I am unable to ping the router from the client and have no connectivity to the internet or other devices on the network. If I ping the WAP address (reserved for internal use address) I get a response and then connectivity is always restored after doing so. In other words, I ping 192.168.1.1 and get no response, immediately ping 192.168.1.2 and get a response, then immediately ping 192.168.1.1 and now get a response and connectivity is restored. If I skip the first step and just ping the reserved address followed by the router address result is always the same. It would appear the issue is between the the two router addresses.
Prior to owning this router I had a Linksys BEFSX41 that I had for about 7-8 years and a WAP54G I had for about 5, both of which still worked and I never had this issue with my wireless clients. I went to this router for the increased performance and am very happy with that aspect, however this issue is unacceptable.

Basically i got a belkin(on a tight bufdget) wireless n modem(f548633) last week. and when i first set it up it was fine except it disconnectiong everytime ia setting was changed on it and taking ages to reconnect to it.
anyway in the last 2 days its started dropping connections to anyone using the wireless. thing is it doesn't completely disconnect it just goes down to around 5kb transfer but when trying to acces the router through IP it doesn't load unless i disconnect and reconnect. i could deal with this at first as it was once every few hours but now its happening every 5 minutes. i plan on sending it back but thought i'd have one last ditch effort at working this out. my security log shows alot of ACK sends to my IP.

WRVS4400N with firmware version V2.0.0.8.
After about an hour it routinely drops wireless clients. Wired clients are fine.
Re initiating a connection from the clients usually restores the connection fine. Sometimes this is just doing something to force the client to use the connection for some active function other times it's forcing the client to renew it's DHCP address or power cycling the client. The same experience is happening with a TioVo on WiFi, an iPhone on WiFi, and a WAP4410N in Client Bridge mode.
While this may not sound that bad, it's creating 2 huge issues that shouldn't occur.
First, the wireless clients that are dropped are not accessible from other clients on the network until they reestablish their connection. There is no indication on the client of an issue with the connection. For example, a TiVo connected over WiFi isn't accessible from the network until it reestablishes it's connection. It works fine then for a hour or so.
Second, for the WAP4410N (firmware 2.0.3.3) in Client Bridge mode, this client requires a power cycle to reconnect to the network. In much less than an hour it stops responding to it's IP address for it's management page, but continues to pass traffic from the multiple wired items it's bridging. Then, after about that same hour, it stops passing this traffic too.
I tried running the WAP4410N in WDS Bridge mode but was unable to get it to work. For this testing, access to the management page was the test with no devices behind it. So, it's possible that that access is what was broken and that it may have passed traffic. No wireless clients need to connect to the WAP4410N, just the bridged wired clients.
This WAP4410N was previously acting as a brige to a WRT54G with no issues, but at G speeds. Which makes me think it's an issue with the WRVS4400N dropping clients and the clients not knowing it.

In my district, I have 11 schools running many LWAPPs and WAPs, connected to a single WLC and managed by WCS.Only the 4 LWAPPs in the administration building experience the following issue:When about 8-10 WiFi devices are present on one AP in the bulding (which usually happens during a meeting), all APs show a "Load Threshold Violation Error" and start dropping some clients intermittently and refusing to connect some new clients. There doesn't seem to be a pattern as to what sort of clients drop, or which ones can connect or re-connect. My WLC is on the same subnet as these LWAPPs since it is in the same building.
If I reboot the APs, this sets things back to normal for a while, but eventually the APs will show the same errors and the same connection problems occur. I have tried adding an LWAPP to our Boardroom, which is generally where users are located when the WiFi drops. For a while, this solved the problem, but it has since returned even with the additional LWAPP. Currently, I have all four LWAPPs in this building set to AP Mode H-REAP, as I do in my other schools. I understand this is normally bad practice; when your APs are on the same subnet as your WLC, generally those APs should be set to AP Mode Local. However, in my case, Local causes more drops and connection failures than H-REAP, so H-REAP is the closest thing I have to a "solution" to the problem.
I have checked the logs on my WLC and in WCS, and do not see any error messages besides the load threshold violations. I have tried increasing client count, and adjusting interference settings, but nothing seems to work. All LWAPPs are AIR-LAP1131G-A-K9 on IOS12.4(18a)JA2. WLC is Model 4404 on 5.2.193.0 firmware.

After converting encryption from WEP to WPA in a Cisco 1240AG in personal mode with an SSID name of example1 and Cisco 1131AG access point in personal mode with an ssid of example2; both with the same wpa passphrase, I created a new profile on the Cisco Aironet Desktop Utility with a new profile name as well as a WPA passphrase, but the desktop utility will only connect to the access point if one network name, example1 or example2, is entered.

I'm looking at creating WLANs using standalone APs for the first time. I know this can all be done with trivially a controller, but this project can't stretch to that...Can I use MAC filtering on standalone APs to restrict which clients associate?I think these will be 1240AG devices but I assume the answer is the same for all models?Can I mix MAC filtering with WEP/WPA? And use MAC filtering without encryption?

how is the IP configuration for this Fast Ethernet F0.
This is because usually we only assign IP to the BVI interface. Is it after that, the Fast Ethernet F0 automatically also be assigned the same IP?
As such, when goto the Fast Ethernet F0 by CLI, by using no shut then this will Enable the Fast Ethernet Port?

I am setting and configure the Cisco AP 1240AG with 5GHz External Antenna extension. The whole product is called iWap. The problem now is that the wireless signal amplitude only can reach 3 bars instaed of ful 5 bars.
Few questions I have for this setup and configuration :
1. What is the default or original frequency of antenna of Cisco AP1240AG? Can a 5GHz antenna work with the AP 1240AG whereby it is run with 802.11a and 802.11g?
2. If 5GHz antenna can work with 802.11a or 802.11g, what is the setting or configuration needed to be done at the Cisco 1240AG? Or, no setting or configuration needed because it will automatically work by default?

They are 8 APs Cisco 1240AG installed inside our warehouse, on the other hand we had some places with poor signal level -82dbm so we put two router linksys wrt54g.
The Cisco APs have 2.2dbi omnidirec antennas and they are configured with the same SSID on different channels (1,6,11) and max tx, rx (100mw).
When we check the signal level we realized that we have more signal from the linksy than the Cisco?

I have 4 desktops cat5 to Dlink DIR 615 router. All work fine. Any wireless clients, laptop or netbooks, see the desktop computers for a while then disconnect somehow. All machines can see the Internet through the router at all times. The desktops disappear from the laptop/netbooks but the wireless machines can be seen from the desktop computers but clicking on them gets 'Access Denied' message after a wait.3 desktops = XP, 1 98SE. All laptop/netbooks = XP

I have an Aironet 1240AG. I resides inside a building with its antenna placed on the outside of the building. In direct line of site, I have a light pole to which I could attach another wireless access point to extend my wireless network. This access point would have to be "rugged". Also, it would have to be able to be bridged to the current access point. In reviewing outdoor wireless access points, it appears that the 1552 is the way to go.
