Cisco Wireless :: 1600 / 2600 With Single External Antenna?
Jun 5, 2013
I have an unusual request to support an access point with a single external antenna to cover a small physical area (elevator car!!). All Cisco's currently shipping APs have dual band antennas using MIMO for throughput in "normal" deployments. Will a deployment with a single antenna work?
New AP models 1600, 2600 and 3600 use one connector for both RF bands. I need the 2,4 band only. Is it possible to use old 2,4GHz wallmount patch antennas for those APs?
I connected an external 12dBi omni-directional antenna for Networks 2.4 Ghz (TL-ANT2412D) with LMR-400 cable 5M but my antenna "emits" nothing, I have no signal. With the two supplied antennas with WAP200 I signal but does not cover any desired area.
I'm looking for a router with an external antenna connection so I can attach an outside antenna to extend my wi-fi signal signal around my farm.Right now I have Hughes net internet service running to a Belkin 750 router, which is descent around the house, but has no connection for an external intenna.

I'm going to install a Cisco Aironet 1310g (ap mode) with external antenna in a warehouse (contain many metal surfaces), and I need to install this antennas on ceiling (distance from floor to ceiling is about 13 metres). I need to get at least 1Mbps performance. AP clients are Motorola MC9190-G mobile computers.
I am setting and configure the Cisco AP 1240AG with 5GHz External Antenna extension. The whole product is called iWap. The problem now is that the wireless signal amplitude only can reach 3 bars instaed of ful 5 bars.
Few questions I have for this setup and configuration :
1. What is the default or original frequency of antenna of Cisco AP1240AG? Can a 5GHz antenna work with the AP 1240AG whereby it is run with 802.11a and 802.11g?
2. If 5GHz antenna can work with 802.11a or 802.11g, what is the setting or configuration needed to be done at the Cisco 1240AG? Or, no setting or configuration needed because it will automatically work by default?
I am in the process of installing a new wireless network in our offices and I was wondering if I can add an extension to the cable that connects my AIR-ANT-1728 to my AIR-CAP-3502e AP to get better coverage in our offices?
Travel in an RV and many campgrounds have poor WiFi setups. Looking for some type of external antenna I can put outside of trailer. I'm using a WMP600N adapter in a desktop PC running Win 7.
I have a few 1142N Aironets with internal antennas in place, and I am not thrilled by its coverage. I want to extend my wireless network because of a new building which led me to the following question; Is there is any difference in wireless coverage when using external dipole antenna’s (the small ones, for example the AIR-ANT2524 for a new 2600 Aironet) versus the internal (dipole) antenna’s. I am aware you have more options when using external antenna’s, such as omni, directional, outdoor etc.
For an indoor office or warehouse deployment, where temperature is not a concern, why would I buy for example the 2600E with 4 dipole antenna’s over the 2600i?I have read most Aironet datasheets and their antenna options, but can’t find a word about the advantages of external dipole antennas. I would expect external antennas would give better coverage.. is this true?
I'm planning to use these with a 2504 controller. However, I cannot find a straight answer on whether or not the External Antennas provide better coverage than the Integrated Antennas? These will be wall mounted in a combo office/warehouse environment. Also, I cannot figure out if the External Antennas are even included with the 1602E (AIR-CAP1602E-A-K9)? or what if any power adapter/ injector is included with the AP's?
I have a 2600 I am trying to setup for educational use.
My Cable ISP has issued me 5 routable IP's through their SMC modem 86.28.12.226-229. The SMC modem is .225. Currently the internal network can get out through .229 as expected but nothing outside (tcp 80 to web server) can get through. When I assigned the ip's to e0/1 as secondarr I could get it to route from the inside network (so hitting .226 80 went to the correct place) but it still didn't work from the outside - plus I read that wasn't a great way to do it anyway.

How to add an external antenna? I'd like to mount a DCS-930L in a location (inside a metal housing) that would need the antenna to be a few inches away. Any internal layout information?
I want to redirect internal web traffic (browsing) to an external web server for Web, Virus and Spyware filtering. Those externals proxies are running in 8080 port. I have one ASA firewall and a Cisco 2600 router. I was thinking in doing PBR in the router but in the next hop I can only set one IP, not an IP and a port. So how can I redirect web traffic to an external proxy listening in 8080 port?
I just realized that my internet is slow when my antenna is on top of my computer. I have a pci card with an external antenna connecting to it. If it's on top of my computer, my internet is slow, but if I move it three feet in front of it, it's fast. This makes me think that my computer is somehow blocking or conflicting with the signal. Is this normal, or is there something I can fix in my computer? Download speeds with the antenna on top are around 0.54Mbps, and if I put it as far away as I can, I get around 20Mbps.
I got a different tower to use ,and added my wireless card and external antenna to it , but need setting up the new PC tower to use the wireless card and antenna. How to set up the available connections so that I can use this in my garage too.
I have a Linksys WAG 120 N wireless router with an internal arial. I want to strengthen the signal to my laptop 2 rooms away as it keeps dropping out. Is it possible to change WAGGING from internal to external antenna to increase range/performance?
how to setup the Aironet 1602 (AIR-SAP1602I-E-K9) I have tried accessing it by various IPs like 10.0.0.1 or 192.168.1.254 but none of them work also when I monitor the connection using Wireshark I can't find out what its IP is.
I have a 2500 and I have successfully joined a 1600 AP to it; however I have noticed that I cannot enable CleanAir in the Global Parameters with just the 1602 AP joined. This feature was enable when I had my 2602 AP connected. So, is the problem that the 1602 doesn't fully support CleanAir? If that is the case, how do I enable CleanAir Express or is that something you can even enable thru the GUI?
I have a Airnet 1600 Series that I want to add as another repeater to our 1200 series 802.11g network. We already have 2 AP's running fine as Repeater and BR, I just need to a this 1600 AP to the existing wirelss. Everytime I try to change the 1600ap as a repeater, I get the below error.
cannot set role in radio network to when another radio is set to one of the above roles
I have new 1600 series Access Points. I am trying to join those APs on controller but unable to join.
After doing config reset using mode button, I was able to join only. Please find the logs or error messages below:

I just installed an Aironet 1602i, standalone WAP. I have it configured to use a RADIUS server in our office. However, two issues have come up when trying to get clients connected.
iPhones and iPads won't connect to either the 2.4 or the 5 GHz radios.
No one can connect to the 5 Ghz radio.
Both radios are UP according to the GUI interfaces of the WAP. Also, laptops and android devices are able to connect to the 2.4GHz radio but not the 5 GHz radio.

Can I convert a standalone 1600 access point to a CAPWAP based AP when I choose to deploy a WLC later?Cant see any literature on cisco.com that is specific to the 1600 APs
