Cisco Wireless :: 4400 DSCP Mapping Toward 802.11e QoS
Aug 18, 2009
According to product bulletin no 3209 for the Cisco 4400 series, the Access Point supports 802.11e WMM.
My question goes to DSCP mapping, according to IEEE and your bulletin the DSCP field in the IP header should be set to 46 (10110 00) for mapping to a 802.11 QoS voice priority 6/7.But my Wireshark trace revealed 4400N is mapping toward with 802.11 QoS is set to Priority 5 Video.
If I google DSCP mapping toward 802.11 QoS all IEEE documention I found says EF /Voice should have 46 or 101xxx in the DSCP IP field but running through Cisco and HP docs gives 46 or 48 as value, that is the correct value. [code]

How the dscp-cos or cos-dscp mapping takes place in c892 router? There is no command like "sh mls qos maps" in c892 like we have in c2951 or c3925.

Im configuring a WLC 5508 ( version 7 ) with h-reap local switching. All is working , yet i wonder if the vlan mapping can be done better.Currently i need to go into each Lightweight Access point , enable h-reap, then set the native vlan , with the final step to map the vlan. This needs to be done for each AP. In an environment of 100's of APs i would take forever. ( i thought one of the main points of the WLC is centralized management).

My customer wants to have mapping of WLAN SSID with different authentication protocol as show below .
1: EMP-M for Mschap
2: EMP-G for Peap GTC
3: EMP-T for TLS
For example EMP-M SSID users should be connected with only PEAP(MSCHAPv2) and not on other methods like PEAP-GTC/EAP-TLS .
customer is currently having WLC 5508 and using ISE for AAA . Any tip how we can do the above requirement through WLC .

I am running big wireless network, with 20no of 5500 with 7.0.116.0 version. I have more than 20,000 AP's. If i add some config in primary controller or do some changes or reboot all the AP's are moving to backup controller. this doesn’t have any problem, but many AP's which moved to backup controller are losing VLAN mapping. This happens every time. Primary --> backup, backup --> primary. Both controllers have same vern...same config etc..

I have my USB HD mapped on my PC through my EA4500 router but, it will not connect automatically because, I think, it needs a password. (If I "explore" the mapped drive, it asks me for a password, then connection is fine, until my PC is rebooted.)Is there anyway of getting around this without leaving my HD unprotected? I am using the Smart Wi-Fi software for the router.

I have three 5508 WLCs, running code 7.0.98.0 supporting 100+ LWAPs in H-REAP mode. The LWAPs are servicing 2-3 WLANs each. Some are using central authentication and local switching, some are configured for central authentication and central switching. When the LWAPs fail from one WLC to another WLC, the LWAP's lose all of their VLAN mappings and pick up the VLAN of the management interface on the new WLC.
All WLANs are configured to use the management interface on the WLC and the VLAN mappings are configured per LWAP on the H-REAP properties tab. The WLAN ID numbers and all the WLAN settings are the same across all 3 WLC's. I have created AP groups on all 3 WLC's and the AP group config matches across the 3 WLCs.
I can get the LWAPs to keep their VLAN mapping by creating an interface on the WLC with the VLAN ID of the locally switched/remote site VLAN and then setting the interface for the WLAN to the new interface. However, then the WLAN doesn't work, because the centrally located WLC doesn't have the remote site VLAN. It also seems to keep the VLAN mapping if I create the locally switched/remote site VLAN interface on the WLC , and point the WLAN to the management interface. This shouldn't be a necessary step though... In H-REAP with local switching, the LWAPs aren't using the interface on the WLC.
I found a note in the 7.0 WLC config guide that explains why the VLANs are picking up the management interface VLAN, but that same note says the VLAN mappings can be changed per LWAP/WLAN!
From config guide: For hybrid-REAP access points, the interface mapping at the controller for WLANs that is configured for H-REAP Local Switching is inherited at the access point as the default VLAN tagging. This mapping can be easily changed per SSID, per hybrid-REAP access point
Using H-REAP and been able to get the LWAPs to keep the VLAN mapping when failing from one WLC to another?

1) which DSCP marking to use for ex90s(HD video)?
2) as a test we are planning do to deploy ex90 at few of locations. at location 1 we will do DSCP EF marking while at the other location we will do DSCP AF41 for video..assume, LOC1 calls LOC2: so, when video traffic from LOC1 arrives to LOC2 will it be marked as EF? and when traffic from LOC2 arrives LOC1 then traffic will be marked as AF41? if yes, then will there be any issue sometimes in case if we run out of bandwidth for EF?

I ran into interesting issue on Sup-2T. As you probably know, QoS CLI is changed on this new supervisor. I'm looking to translate incoming dscp-marked packets, into exp-marked on egress. Now, according to documentation - Catalyst 6500 Release 15.0SY Software Configuration Guide - this functionality is still called mutation-map and is configured under 'platform qos map exp-mutation'. The problem is quite simple – there is no 'platform qos map exp-mutation' on 2 different machines I checked upon. Here:
Some-6513(config)#platform qos ? 10g-only qos pure 10G mode aggregate-policer Named aggregate policer marking marking keyword
police police keyword protocol protocol keyword queueing-only queueing-only (no QoS rewrite, no policing) rewrite packet qos rewrite enable/disable statistics-export qos statistics data export

For some reason, I do not see that AP group appear in other 3 x WLCs. Very much appreciated if someone could point me to the right information or trouble shooting steps.

I posted a few days ago but don't have a good response. I've dig high and low and haven't come across a solution yet. I've been trying to get a customized web Authentication typed. I didn't need a user name or password to get through. All I need is a web pass through and an accept button at the end of the HTML agreement policy or splash page.
I was able to create a log in.HTML and download to the wireless controller, but my problem is how would I get an agree button and when a user click on it and it would redirect to a website. I've followed the following link but no luck. {URL}. the link doesn't tell me weather I should create an accept button manually or is there a setting on the controller that need to check? the link also provide some info. about: Configure Client Machine for Web Pass through, but where should I download the Cisco Aironet Desktop Utility? I've download ACUv502005.exe file for my windows 7 but after the installation it didn't work for me. if you know how to configure the web-pass through. I been working for this for a week now and didn't find the info. that I was looking for.

I have a wireless sytem with a WLC 4400 and several 1522 Access Points. They don't actually function as Access Points because I'm using radio communication only for backhaul. There are no clients connected to the Access Points. All traffic on the network comes from the devices connected on the LANs that are bridged through the APs ethernet port.
I would like to create filters to allow only certain devices to be able to transmit over the radio link. I've used this in the past on 1310 units and it was very easy to do via GUI. This filter could be either by IP or MAC Addresses. IP would be better for me.

I work in a manufacturing firm where we have offices at 3 different places say A,B and C. Our ERP server is at our original unit A from where we accessed it at B and C through remote desktop application till now. But now we have hired cloud services to connect to our main ERP server. We are in the process of installing the cloud application on our server at B during which we are encountering a problem. The cloud service provider is asking for domain name and password for the DSCP server based at the orignal unit (A) which no one in the company seems to have any idea about. Our IT guy at A has resigned and has not been replaced. Our IT guy at B is inexperienced and just following the instructions of service provider who is stuck at DSCP domain name and ID. How can I know the domain name and password of DSCP server so that the process moves on?

The following is my qos
information 192.168.1.15/24
makring enabled
cos/DSCO DSCO
Value 0xb8
On my upstream device I only allow traffic that is marked with this dscp value. No traffic is coming through. RTP traffic is marked because it comes off the phone marked but I would expect the qos Policy so mark everything going to that ip space to be marked.

I have a Cisco Series 4400 WLAN controller and I'm trying to connect a lightweight AP to the controller. I have already assigned the switch port to use my wi-fi VLAN, and have connected the AP to the switch. After a few minutes, the light on the AP goes from green to light blue (indicating it's serving clients). When I log into he wi-fi controller to look for the Ethernet mac address of the new AP, I do not see its Mac Address. I want to be able to rename the AP to reflect where it will be used, but need to select the AP via its Ethernet mac address before I can make any edits like changing its name etc. I've gone through the "monitoring" menu, selected "All" and still do not see it in their via its MAC address. I also will select the "wireless menu" which lists all the AP's on my network, listing in order from on the longest running, to just powered on.Is there something I'm missing like a "re-scan" that scan's all devices?

But this document has last been updated in 2008, in a few days that's almost 5 years ago, and we all know how quickly technology is evolving. 10Gb wireless is around the corner, with 1GB starting to go production now. This document also mentions the 4400 (which is end of life).
