Cisco Wireless :: 4941 Impact Of Incorrectly Set Antenna Gain
Jul 7, 2009
What is the impact of incorrectly setting the antenna gain on a the b/g radio of an AP would have on a WLAN?
I've come across a site where around a 3rd of the AP's had their antenna gain set to 0. I can only assume that something missed setting this during setup. The site uses 1242ABG AP's and each has 2 4941 antennas and i believe the gain should be set to 4 x 0.5dBi

I recently checked the output of one of my AP 3502AGN which are connected to a WiSM with the current 7.0.240.0 software. There I saw the following output:
show ap config 802.11b 3502AGN-1100c-1
Legacy Tx Beamforming ..................... ENABLED

I am currently working on a project where I need to design a complete wireless solution for a huge building. I performed the wireless rf survey by configuring the wap's to broadcast a SSID and walked around gathering rf coverage data. When configuring the test WAP's i did not join them to a lan controller ( AIR-WLC4402-50-K9 ) but simply created a static ip and ssid to broadcast but modified the internal antenna gain to +128 to change the direction of the broadcast. There are two other ap's already joined to the lan controller on a guest network (configured by another contractor) but when I go into the lan controller web gui I do not see anywhere that allows me to modify antenna gain on the individual WAPs. Also, once the waps join the lan controller they dont seem to be accessible via web. How I can I modify gain per wap?

Im now in charge of a medium/big size network (around 1200 machines).I found some connection pattern that im not shoure if it is correct.I migth be wrong, but i think this kind of connection would cause a continue RSTP change of topology (confusing about the 'direction' of the route to take), so having some latency period (this pattern of connection can be repeated several times in the whole network).BTW, there is no special configuration in switch A for saiyng that port 50 is not being used as a uplink port.

I'm connected to my router via an Ethernet cable, and on the connection icon I have the yellow triangle and a message indicating I have no internet access...but I do. My internet is fully connected and I have no problems remote connecting to my computer from work, downloading and seeding torrents or browsing websites. Problems is, it seems that Windows THINKING it's not connected is affecting other programs which need to connect to the internet.

I ran into this recently with a client of mine. When uploading files (either via FTP or through a shared drive in terminal services) from the site any files larger than 200MB or so would hang in the middle of the upload as the TCP session timed out because the traffic was cut off. I started pulling apart the config on the 2911 edge router to determine what the issue was.
I trace the issue down to this particular policy which was created by CCP: sdmappfwp2p_CCP_LOW (When this policy was removed from the wan interface the issue vanished). The default config of this policy was as follows:
policy-map sdmappfwp2p_CCP_LOW
class sdm_p2p_edonkey
drop
class sdm_p2p_gnutella
drop
class sdm_p2p_kazaa
drop
class sdm_p2p_bittorrent
drop
I first removed the highlighted drop command from the edonkey class and reapplied the inspection policy to the WAN port and the issue remained resolved!
While this fixed the issue and I was able to block eDonkey traffic with just a simple outgoing ACL to block tcp port 4662 I find it very strange that a eDonkey inspection policy would cause such problems for eDonkey traffic. I know for sure this is the only change made on the router and I'm just scratching my head at what I've found. Is it a bug with NBAR? Mostly I'm just curious as the issue is already resolved.

Just got my Linksys EA4500 router today.The only confusing thing, not not well explained by Linksys . Is the USB storage set up.One thing (very important) Linksys has failed to explain how to gain access to the USB storage once connected to the router. Once the USB storage drive it set up. Or at least I think it's set up. Nothing shows up on my network page. So how am I to get access to the drive? If it don't show up?I need to know how to gain access to the USB storage drive that is connected to the Linksys router.
This is how I think it is to be set up. Again the instructions are not all that clear how to set up. And where is this widget on the homepage to be located?

What is the impact of disabling xlate in FWSM
We have dynamic NAT configured from inside to outside interface, but still it is showing NAT entry as below.
"NAT from inside:177.26.99.10 to outside:177.26.99.10 flags Ii"
Expected NAT entry should as below :
"NAT from inside:177.26.99.10 to outside:111.111.111.111 flags Ii"
We were considering implementing "ip verify revert-path" .Hence here i am thinking whether xlate-bypass is the issue here and implementing same with "ip verify revert-path" woud be a good idea.

We plan to implement a large number of ACL on our Distribution switch which is a HSRP pair of 6509C switches running on sup-bootflash:s72033-psv-mz.122-18.SXD3.bin WE need to divide the Network in three layers
unsecure layer
Proxy layer
Secure layer
We have approximately 250 vlans on the our distribution switches and plan to implement 15 ACL on different vlans Each ACL can contain upto 30 lines or less.
basic ACL example we will be applying on different vlan
vlan 200
ip access-group test123 in
My question is Can these ACL on a vlan can have a massive impact on the 6509 CPU ?

I bought this router from a rummage sale, and it works great. The only problem is, I cannot access it to set up a password. I have downloaded the manual, and tried the troubleshooting. I disabled the firewall, did the reset button on the back of the router, but all I keep getting is "The Connection Has Timed Out" error message. I also went to the emulator site, but it said that there was no support any longer for that model. I have tried this on both Internet Explorer and Firefox. I personally have Windows 7, and on Comcast.

Normaly all incoming IP addresses can use NAT to gain access. I would like to make a rule that only one IP address can connect to my router and use that port or range of ports defined.
Is there a way to configure a SRP 527W on such a way?
If not possible now, can I expect a software update ?

I have a query regarding the deletion and creation of one of my SVI interface on 6513 ,The reason behind it as follows.My traffic get to Internet in this manner
proxy(external int.)[IP:192.168.1.30] --> Gi0/9[6513 in VLAN 170] --> SVI VLAN 170[IP:192.168.1.10] --> Gi0/10[In VLAN 170] -->ASR[IP:192.168.1.20],I need to assign this VLAN ie 170 to my inside interface of firewall but it was mentioned in books like this "Assign the VLAN for the FWSM before it is applied to the MultilayerSwitch Feature Card (MSFC)." so I am thinking the following steps to assign VLAN 170 to firewall group first before creating SVI Interface for it
1.Remove all currently assign ie Gi 0/9 & Gi0/10 interfaces from this VLAN and then delete this VLAN.
2.Create the same SVI ie VLAN 170[IP:192.168.1.10] by this way the issue can be resolved.
As in part of my configuration PBR is define like this .
interface Vlan170
description "PUBLIC IP VLAN"
ip address 192.168.1.20. 255.255.255.0
ip policy route-map NAT
route-map NAT permit 10
match ip address 101
set ip next-hop 192.168.1.10
I need to clearify what impact it may have on PBR part if I delete and create the VLAN 170.Will the traffic move to the inside interface of FWSM.

Can a router connect to a switch to gain additional ports (to both access the internet AND to maintain an internal / home network)?IP line to house, connected to modem, connected to 4-port router, connected to 8-port switch. Now, each of six rooms in my house has one Cat-5e (RJ-45) jack whose run terminates to the switch. In some of these rooms, I need two wired devices (wireless isn't an option for the devices). Can I use the LAN port of a spare, wireless router (to also use as an access point for cell phones, etc) to plug into the jack and increase the number of ports in that room to have a functional LAN and WAN? I have read tons of info on plugging switches into routers to increase the number of ports, but not the other way around. Plus, ripping open walls to expand the network isn't feasible either. My other thought, would be to replace the switch with another (2nd) router, by connecting the 1st and 2nd routers together, and have the runs terminate to the open LAN ports of both routers --= and then expand the ports in those rooms by also using additional, spare wireless routers.

I have a Cisco 881 setup with the following VPN config.
[code]...
The client is able to connect just fine to the network via VPN, but I am unable to gain access to any of the local resources. I know 192.168.1.1 has SSH running and 192.168.1.50 has telnet running but if I try to connect to either using the correct program they just timeout. I am really at a loss on why the vpn connection connects but I can not gain access to any of the resources on the VPN network.
