My Compaq Presario V2000 (HP) using Win-xp3 will only connect to the internet using safe mode. When trying to connect in normal mode a message appears saying I cannot display webpage and what I can try is diagnose connection problems. When I click on diagnose problems it tells me that Windows cannot troubleshoot network connection because an error has occured.

I have all of my power settings set to NOTHING. I have set the adapter, Minimum Power Consumption disabled, same with the Power Save Mode.
My sister's Compaq Presario CQ62 Laptop, and from what she told me, she can't access the internet. When she can access, it's only with Internet Explorer.
She couldn't register Microsoft Office, use Avast, use Firefox, use Chrome, install updates, and access the iTunes store to name a few examples.
She was able to run MalwareBytes, but no infections were found.
I don't think it's the router, because my sister is also my roommate and I can access the internet just fine, as well as gaming consoles and iPods. But I don't know, maybe it is the router and I'm just not realizing it.
I'm trying to figure out the problem, but it's just not coming to me. I guess she's had this problem since October 2010. I thought it might be an IP address issue, so I reserved an IP address to her, but it appears that nothing changed.
I have a compaq Presario CQ 60 windows vista 32 bit. I cannot connect to my centurytel westell 7500. I was able to connect to the westell versalink 327W but when I upgraded to the 7500 I havnt been able to connect wirelessly. I can with the Ethernet but not wirelessly. My wifi network adapter is a atheros AR5007 802.11b/g.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq presario CQ61 laptop running windows 7 and since my boyfriend installed a new netgear wireless router I haven't been able connect to the home wireless network. I have no problem connecting to public or private wireless networks at my house or elsewhere. Also, my boyfriend and his roommate have no problem connecting to the network on their laptops. It is a WPA encrypted network. I have also tried shutting off the firewall on my computer without any change. My laptop doesn't even recognize the network - i tried to manually add the network to my computer but it still won't come up on my list of active networks.

I can connect his lapatop to our Motorola SBG 6580, but then cannot connect to the internet. I get the error that the DNS lookup failed. I tried replacing the keyboard but it did not work. Anyways, For some strange reason my wireless capability was turned off and now I have no way of turning it back on. As a side note I was able to connect in normal mode with Firefox V4 but accidentally updated to FF12 and now it won't work either. HJT log posted below. I've tried reseting and reinsatalling IE9, flushed the DNS, reset TCPIP. Still nothing.

My daughters laptop will not connect either wirelessly or via cable apart from in Safe mode with Networking. It has been working fine for over a year and she has not made any radical changes recently and all other devices in our house work and connect fine. I have run various checks including Malwarebytes and their root checker all comes back clean. I'm having a little trouble with one of the computers on our home network. It's a desktop computer running Vista, connected to the router by cable. I'm told the internet connection was working fine one night, and the next morning, not at all.
All of our other devices (laptops, etc) connect through the wireless just fine, and I tested the wired connection on another computer with good results. The desktop computer will only connect when in safe mode. In the regular mode, it shows a local connection only, but I cannot ping the other computers in the network.
I ran full scans with McAfee, Spybot and Malwarebytes to clean out anything dodgy, but still no change. I tried turning off McAfee's firewall (and then the whole program), but that didn't make a difference, either. I'm not sure what's suddenly blocking the connection.

After this, i have been unable to connect to the internet on my laptop on a wireless basis. I can search for the modem via the usual means and seemingly connect, but when i am connected it states that i have 'Local Access' only and i am unable to access the internet at all. I am also unable to connect to the internet on a wireless basis when in safe mode.I am however, able to connect using a Ethernet cable from the modem.My laptop is fairly old but it is fine for our needs and thus i do not really want to change it unless totally necessary. I just wonder if it is something relatively simple that i am overlooking?My son also has a more modern laptop, and he tells me that he can use the internet via our new modem without any problems. Which would suggest there is nothing wrong with the modem.The operating system is Windows Vista, if that makes any difference.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have tried everything - virus checks, HijackThis, disabling services and startup. I have three tabs set for home (CNN, Yahoo and Gmail). Gmail connects but I can't access any other sites. Also Outlook 2007 connects to the MS Exchange Server. The behavior is a little weird because when I first boot up, all my tabs load properly but then after a minute or two, I press the "home" button and suddenly nothing will connect (except Gmail, which still continues to connect). All has been fine for years and then all of a sudden this happened when I returned from a business trip (had the computer with me and everything was fine). I have ruled out router and other connection issues. In Safe Mode, the connections are just fine. As a last resort, I may reinstall XP but I would obviously prefer not to.I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T400, running XP SP3.

I have a Compaq CQ60. It formerly belonged to a friend (who had no problems with it) and I restored factory settings. However it isn't connecting to my router! Well, it does connect - but it calls it "unidentified" and despite my many attempts it just won't allow me access to the internet. The two other laptops in the house are connected to it fine though. I tried connecting to my neighbour's wireless router, and it worked no problem, including the internet! I bought an ethernet cable earlier, which successfully connected my laptop to the internet. (Although it said I was connected to a homenetwork as well as my Talk Talk router, which it proceeds to call "unidentified" and is restricted to local access). However, I really need it to work wirelessly. I have not been able to use the laptop yet as the ethernet cable does not allow me to leave the router!

My cable modem is connected straight to the computer by ethernet wire. It happened before and I unistalled the Vista update and it was fine. I can't see what the problem is this time cause my Event log won't come up saying that the Snapin for the MMC isn't properly loading. I am able to see alerts but there wasn't any on that date. My Norton's won't come up either stating that the side by side configuration isn't right.

My iPad and laptop connect with no problem at all but his mother's computer, the Compaq, won't connect to the internet unless it's directly connected to the router/modem.
I've gone to the support section of the Netgear website and tried what they told me but I keep running into needing to log on to my router. The default password isn't working and neither is the one we tried to set up (really my bf tried to set one and somehow managed to screw up the whole thing; I just went to bed cause I was happy we even had wireless).
so I went into device manager and deleted the 2 network adapters, rebooted and let Windows reinstall. Windows created a new Local Area Connection (LAC4, 2 and 3 are gone). It reads limited or no connectivity and is using Linksys LNE 100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter, just like the previous LAC2. The previous LAC3, which used the WAN Network Driver never got reinstalled. I don't get it.Since a Linksys adapter on a wired connection seemed bizarre I tried to find what the correct network driver should beI Googled "Compaq Presario 5400US" "ethernet driver" OR "network driver" and was taken to an HP drivers page, which This page has nothing listed for chipset or network adapters

View 4 Replies View RelatedOld Compaq Presario 3000+ getting sluggish, freezing has Compac mouse and keyboard. So brother gave me not as old eMachine. Thought I'd use KVM and play music, etc from old Compaq. KVM hooked up. Compaq keyboard works very poorly with eMachine. Compaq mouse doesn't work at all with eMachine -freezes center of screen. Switch to wireless mouse, works fine with eMachine, but then have ot use Compaq mouse if I switch to Compaq PCU. Is there a universal keyboard and mouse that would fix this?

We have recently had a new Wireless router and the laptop was working fine going online then one day it wouldn't connect.The laptop is connecting to the router although it is showing as an unidentified network and access as local only. My computer came with Mcaffe pre installed on the laptop however did not stop me getting the police e crime unit virus about three weeks ago. To fix this I booted in safe mode and did a system restore to around 3 months before I got the virus. I then installed avast antivirus and did a scan and boot scan which came back with nothing which suggested to me it had gone. This then meant I had both mcaffe and and avast running at the same time. Then until 3 weeks later the internet suddenly stopped working whilst I was on the internet. My laptop sees my router and says it is connected to it but says the router is not connected to the internet. This is false as every other device in the house can connect. However I then tried my computer in safe mode with networking and it can connect to the internet.
